1Recent Progress and Development in Extrusion of Rare Earth Free Mg Alloys: A Review显示文摘Mg and its alloys are the lightest structural metals available and are extremely attractive for applications as lightweight components, particularly in the automobile, electronic, and aerospace industries. The global market for wrought Mg alloys has steadily expanded over the past decade. And numerous studies have been carried out to meet this increasing demand of high-performance Mg alloys. However, Mg extrusion alloys have had a very limited usage so far. To overcome existing industrial challenges, one desirable approach is the development of low-cost rare earth(RE) free Mg extrusion alloys with superior mechanical properties. This review will introduce the recent research highlights in the extrusion of Mg alloys, specifi cally focusing on low-cost RE-free Mg alloy. The results from both the literature and our previous study are summarized and critically reviewed. Several aspects of RE-free Mg extrusion alloys are described in detail:(1) novel alloying designs including Mg–Al-, Mg–Zn-, Mg–Ca-, Mg–Sn-, and Mg–Bi-based alloys,(2) advanced extrusion techniques, and(3) extrusion-related severe plastic deformation(SPD) processing. Accordingly, considering the large gap in mechanical properties between the current RE-free Mg alloys and high-performance aluminum alloys, new alloy design, processing route control, and recommendations for future research on RE-free Mg extrusion alloys are also proposed. 2Microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of binary Mg-xBi(x=2,5,and 8 wt%)alloys显示文摘The microstructures and mechanical properties of Mg-x Bi(x=2,5,and 8 wt%)were investigated compared with pure Mg.The ascast Mg-Bi billets consist of dendriticα-Mg grain matrix,divorced eutectic Mg_(3)Bi_(2) phase and secondary precipitated Mg_(3)Bi_(2) phase.After homogenization,secondary precipitated Mg_(3)Bi_(2) particles were all dissolved into the matrix,while most of the divorced eutectic Mg_(3)Bi_(2) intermetallic compounds retained.All the as-extruded samples exhibit fully dynamic recrystallization(DRX)and the average grain size decreases and the amount of nano-scale Mg_(3)Bi_(2) precipitates increases with increasing Bi content.Additionally,Bi alloying has little influence on the texture of the as-extruded pure Mg,with all the samples showing typical basal texture.As the results of grain refinement and precipitation hardening,the strengths of the as-extruded samples increase under both tensile and compressive tests.Besides,the yield asymmetry significantly decreases with Bi content.Moreover,all the as-extruded samples represent similar ductility under compression,while the tensile elongation first increases and then decreases with more Bi added.The as-extruded Mg-5Bi alloy demonstrates good combination of strength and ductility.However,Mg-8Bi alloy displays lower tensile ductility than that of Mg-5Bi alloy due to the presence of abundant undissolved coarse Mg_(3)Bi_(2) particles,which act as cracking sources during tensile test.Furthermore,the strain hardening rate,strain hardening exponent n,and hardening capacity Hc are greatly reduced by Bi addition,mainly owing to the enhanced synergy effects of grain refinement and numerous Mg_(3)Bi_(2) precipitates.Hui Yu Shaoda Fan Shuaiju Meng Jae Ok Choi Zhongjie Li Yohan Go Young Min Kim Weimin Zhao Bong Sun You Kwang Seon Shin 2021Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2021,9,3:1

4Seroprevalence of anti-HAV among patients with chronic viral liver disease显示文摘AIM:To investigate the current seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus(HAV) antibodies in patients with chronic viral liver disease in Korea.We also tried to identify the factors affecting the prevalence of HAV antibodies. METHODS:We performed an analysis of the clinical records of 986 patients(mean age:49±9 years,714 males/272 females) with chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) or hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection who had undergone HAV antibody testing between January 2008 and December 2009.RESULTS:The overall prevalence of IgG anti-HAV was 86.61%(854/986) in patients with chronic liver disease and was 88.13%(869/986) in age-and gendermatched patients from the Center for Health Promotion.The anti-HAV prevalence was 80.04%(405/506) in patients with chronic hepatitis B,86.96%(20/23) in patients with chronic hepatitis C,93.78%(422/450) in patients with HBV related liver cirrhosis,and 100%(7/7) in patients with HCV related liver cirrhosis.The anti-HAV prevalence according to the decade of age was as follows:20s(6.67%) ,30s(50.86%) ,40s(92.29%) ,50s(97.77%) ,and 60s(100%) .The antiHAV prevalence was significantly higher in patients older than 40 years compared with that in patients younger than 40 years of age.Multivariable analysis showed that age≥40 years,female gender and metropolitan cities as the place of residence were independent risk factors for IgG anti-HAV seropositivity. 9Development of a modular, biocompatible thiolated gelatin microparticle platform for drug delivery and tissue engineering applications显示文摘The field of biomaterials has advanced significantly in the past decade.With the growing need for high-throughput manufacturing and screening,the need for modular materials that enable streamlined fabrication and analysis of tissue engineering and drug delivery schema has emerged.Microparticles are a powerful platform that have demonstrated promise in enabling these technologies without the need to modify a bulk scaffold.This building block paradigm of using microparticles within larger scaffolds to control cell ratios,growth factors and drug release holds promise.Gelatin microparticles(GMPs)are a well-established platform for cell,drug and growth factor delivery.One of the challenges in using GMPs though is the limited ability to modify the gelatin post-fabrication.In the present work,we hypothesized that by thiolating gelatin before microparticle formation,a versatile platform would be created that preserves the cytocompatibility of gelatin,while enabling post-fabrication modification.The thiols were not found to significantly impact the physicochemical properties of the microparticles.Moreover,the thiolated GMPs were demonstrated to be a biocompatible and robust platform for mesenchymal stem cell attachment.Additionally,the thiolated particles were able to be covalently modified with a maleimide-bearing fluorescent dye and a peptide,demonstrating their promise as a modular platform for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications.Hannah A.Pearce Yu Seon Kim Emma Watson Kiana Bahrami Mollie M.Smoak Emily Y.Jiang Michael Elder Tate Shannon Antonios G.Mikos 2021Regenerative Biomaterials2021,8,3:1

11A dual-gelling poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based ink and thermoreversible poloxamer support bath for high-resolution bioprinting显示文摘Extrusion bioprinting is a popular method for fabricating tissue engineering scaffolds because of its potential to rapidly produce complex,bioactive or cell-laden scaffolds.However,due to the relatively high viscosity required to maintain shape fidelity during printing,many extrusion-based inks lack the ability to achieve precise structures at scales lower than hundreds of micrometers.In this work,we present a novel poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAAm)-based ink and poloxamer support bath system that produces precise,multi-layered structures on the tens of micrometers scale.The support bath maintains the structure of the ink in a hydrated,heated environment ideal for cell culture,while the ink undergoes rapid thermogelation followed by a spontaneous covalent crosslinking reaction.Through the combination of the PNIPAAm-based ink and poloxamer bath,this system was able to produce hydrogel scaffolds with uniform fibers possessing diameters tunable from 80 to 200μm.A framework of relationships between several important printing factors involved in maintaining support and thermogelation was also elucidated.As a whole,this work demonstrates the ability to produce precise,acellular and cell-laden PNIPAAm-based scaffolds at high-resolution and contributes to the growing body of research surrounding the printability of extrusion-based bioinks with support baths.Adam M.Navara Yu Seon Kim Yilan Xu Christopher L.Crafton Mani Diba Jason L.Guo Antonios G.Mikos 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,8:1
12Optimal postoperative surveillance strategies for stage III colorectal cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Optimal surveillance strategies for stage III colorectal cancer(CRC)are lacking,and intensive surveillance has not conferred a significant survival benefit.AIM To examine the association between surveillance intensity and recurrence and survival rates in patients with stage III CRC.METHODS Data from patients with pathologic stage III CRC who underwent radical surgery between January 2005 and December 2012 at Asan Medical Center,Seoul,Korea were retrospectively reviewed.Surveillance consisted of abdominopelvic computed tomography(CT)every 6 mo and chest CT annually during the 5 year follow-up period,resulting in an average of three imaging studies per year.Patients who underwent more than the average number of imaging studies annually were categorized as high intensity(HI),and those with less than the average were categorized as low intensity(LI).RESULTS Among 1888 patients,864(45.8%)were in HI group.Age,sex,and location were not different between groups.HI group had more advanced T and N stage(P=0.002,0.010,each).Perineural invasion(PNI)was more identified in the HI group(21.4%vs 30.3%,P<0.001).The mean overall survival(OS)and recurrence-free interval(RFI)was longer in the LI group(P<0.001,each).Multivariate analysis indicated that surveillance intensity[odds ratio(OR)=1.999;95%confidence interval(CI):1.680–2.377;P<0.001],pathologic T stage(OR=1.596;95%CI:1.197–2.127;P=0.001),PNI(OR=1.431;95%CI:1.192–1.719;P<0.001),and circumferential resection margin(OR=1.565;95%CI:1.083–2.262;P=0.017)in rectal cancer were significantly associated with RFI.The mean post-recurrence survival(PRS)was longer in patients who received curative resection(P<0.001).Curative resection rate of recurrence was not different between HI(29.3%)and LI(23.8%)groups(P=0.160).PRS did not differ according to surveillance intensity(P=0.802).CONCLUSION Frequent surveillance with CT scan do not improve OS in stage III CRC patients.We need to evaluate role of other surveillance method rather than frequent CT scans to detect recurrence for which curative treatment was possible because curative resection is the important to improve post-recurrence survival.Min Young Park In Ja Park Hyo Seon Ryu Jay Jung Minsung Kim Seok-Byung Lim Chang Sik Yu Jin Cheon Kim 2021World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2021,13,9:0
13Cumulative incidence and risk factors for pouch adenomas associated with familial adenomatous polyposis following restorative proctocolectomy显示文摘BACKGROUND The emergence of restorative total proctocolectomy has significantly reduced the lifetime colorectal cancer risk associated with familial adenomatous polyposis(FAP).However,adenomas may develop in the ileal pouch over time and may even progress to carcinoma.We evaluated the cumulative incidence,time to development,and risk factors associated with ileal pouch adenoma.AIM To evaluate the cumulative incidence,time to development,and risk factors associated with pouch adenoma.METHODS In this retrospective,observational study conducted at a tertiary center,95 patients with FAP who underwent restorative proctocolectomy at our center between 1989 and 2018 were consecutively included.The mean follow-up period was 88 mo.RESULTS Pouch adenomas were found in 24(25.3%)patients,with a median time of 52 mo to their first formation.Tubular adenomas were detected in most patients(95.9%).There were no high-grade dysplasia or malignancies.Of the 24 patients with pouch adenomas,13 had all detected adenomas removed.Among the 13 patients who underwent complete adenoma removal,four(38.5%)developed recurrence.Among 11(45.8%)patients with numerous polyps within the pouch,seven(63.6%)exhibited progression of pouch adenoma.The cumulative risks of pouch adenoma development at 5,10,and 15 years after pouch surgery were 15.2%,29.6%,and 44.1%,respectively.Severe colorectal polyposis(with more than 1000 polyps)was a significant risk factor for pouch adenoma development(hazard ratio,2.49;95% confidence interval:1.04-5.96;P=0.041).CONCLUSION Pouch adenomas occur at a fairly high rate in association with FAP after restorative proctocolectomy,and a high colorectal polyp count is associated with pouch adenoma development.Hyo Seon Ryu Chang Sik Yu Young Il Kim Jong Lyul Lee Chan Wook Kim Yong Sik Yoon In Ja Park Seok-Byung Lim Jin Cheon Kim 2022World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,30:0
14Evaluating the physicochemical effects of conjugating peptides into thermogelling hydrogels for regenerative biomaterials applications显示文摘Thermogelling hydrogels,such as poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)[P(NiPAAm)],provide tunable constructs leveraged in many regenerative biomaterial applications.Recently,our lab developed the crosslinker poly(glycolic acid)-poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(glycolic acid)-di(but-2-yne-1,4-dithiol),which crosslinks P(NiPAAm-co-glycidyl methacrylate)via thiol-epoxy reaction and can be functionalized with azide-terminated peptides via alkyne-azide click chemistry.This study’s aim was to evaluate the impact of peptides on the physicochemical properties of the hydrogels.The physicochemical properties of the hydrogels including the lower critical solution temperature,crosslinking times,swelling,degradation,peptide release and cytocompatibility were evaluated.The gels bearing peptides increased equilibrium swelling indicating hydrophilicity of the hydrogel components.Comparable sol fractions were found for all groups,indicating that inclusion of peptides does not impact crosslinking.Moreover,the inclusion of a matrix metalloproteinase-sensitive peptide allowed elucidation of whether release of peptides from the network was driven by hydrolysis or enzymatic cleavage.The hydrophilicity of the network determined by the swelling behavior was demonstrated to be the most important factor in dictating hydrogel behavior over time.This study demonstrates the importance of characterizing the impact of additives on the physicochemical properties of hydrogels.These characteristics are key in determining design considerations for future in vitro and in vivo studies for tissue regeneration.Hannah A.Pearce Emily Y.Jiang Joseph W.R.Swain Adam M.Navara Jason L.Guo Yu Seon Kim Andrew Woehr Jeffrey D.Hartgerink Antonios G.Mikos 2021Regenerative Biomaterials2021,8,6:0
