3Rapid report of the 8 January 2022 M_(S)6.9 Menyuan earthquake,Qinghai,China显示文摘The M_(S)6.9 Menyuan earthquake in Qinghai Province,west China is the largest earthquake by far in 2022.The earthquake occurs in a tectonically active region,with a background b-value of 0.87 within 100 km of the epicenter that we derived from the unified catalog produced by China Earthquake Networks Center since late 2008.Field surveys have revealed surface ruptures extending 22 km along strike,with a maximum ground displacement of 2.1 m.We construct a finite fault model with constraints from In SAR observations,which showed multiple fault segments during the Menyuan earthquake.The major slip asperity is confined within 10 km at depth,with the maximum slip of 3.5 m.Near real-time back-projection results of coseismic radiation indicate a northwest propagating rupture that lasted for~10 s.Intensity estimates from the back-projection results show up to a Mercalli scale of IX near the ruptured area,consistent with instrumental measurements and the observations from the field surveys.Aftershock locations(up to January 21,2022)exhibit two segments,extending to~20 km in depth.The largest one reaches M_(S)5.3,locating near the eastern end of the aftershock zone.Although the location and the approximate magnitude of the mainshock had been indicated by previous studies based on paleoearthquake records and seismic gap,as well as estimated stressing rate on faults,significant surfacebreaching rupture leads to severe damage of the high-speed railway system,which poses a challenge in accurately assessing earthquake hazards and risks,and thus demands further investigations of the rupture behaviors for crustal earthquakes.Hongfeng Yang Dun Wang Rumeng Guo Mengyu Xie Yang Zang Yue Wang Qiang Yao Chuang Cheng Yanru An Yingying Zhang 2022Earthquake Research Advances2022,2,1:14
4Arabidopsis VQ10 interacts with WRKY8 to modulate basal defense against Botrytis cinerea显示文摘Recent studies in Arabidopsis have revealed that some VQ motif-containing proteins physically interact with WRKY transcription factors;however,their specific biological functions are still poorly understood.In this study,we confirmed the interaction between VQ10and WRKY8,and show that VQ10 and WRKY8 formed a complex in the plant cell nucleus.Yeast two-hybrid analysis showed that the middle region of WRKY8 and the VQ motif of VQ10 are critical for their interaction,and that this interaction promotes the DNA-binding activity of WRKY8.Further investigation revealed that the VQ10protein was exclusively localized in the nucleus,and VQ10was predominantly expressed in siliques.VQ10 expression was strongly responsive to the necrotrophic fungal pathogen,Botrytis cinerea and defense-related hormones.Phenotypic analysis showed that disruption of VQ10 increased mutant plants susceptibility to the fungal pathogen B.cinerea,whereas constitutive-expression of VQ10 enhanced resistance to B.cinerea.Consistent with these findings,expression of the defenserelated PLANT DEFENSIN1.2(PDF1.2)gene was decreased in vq10 mutant plants,after B.cinerea infection,but increased in VQ10-overexpressing transgenic plants.Taken together,our findings provide evidence that VQ10 physically interacts with WRKY8 and positively regulates plant basal resistance against the necrotrophic fungal pathogen B.cinerea.Junqiu Chen Houping Wang Yang Li Jinjing Pan Yanru Hu Diqiu Yu 2018Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2018,60,10:8
5Lignin biosynthesis by suppression of two O-methyl-transferases显示文摘Caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (COMT) and caffeoyl-CoA-3-O-methyltransferase (CCoAOMT) genes encode two methyltransferases at different substrate levels in lignin biosynthesis. We constructed two single antisense expression vectors containing the cDNA of COMT or CCoAOMT genes and one dual antisense expression vector containing cDNAs of both OMTs genes. The antisense constructs were transferred into tobacco mediated by Agrobac-terium tumefacience. PCR-Southern analysis indicated that antisense cDNAs had been integrated into the genome of the transgenic tobacco. The antisense genes were also expressed at transcriptional level displayed by Northern dot analysis. Klason lignin assay of 3-month-old transgenic tobaccos showed that repression in COMT or CCoAOMT alone could result in reduction of lignin content, more reduction was caused by suppression in CCoAOMT than in COMT. 7Characterization of 500 Chinese patients with cervical esophageal cancer by clinicopathological and treatment outcomes显示文摘Objective: There are no comprehensive studies on survival outcomes and optimal treatment protocols for cervical esophageal cancer(CEC), due to its rare clinical prevalence. Our objective was to determine the relationship between pathological characteristics, treatment protocols, and survival outcomes in Chinese CEC patients.Methods: A total of 500 Chinese CEC patients were selected from our 500,000 esophageal and gastric cardia carcinoma database(1973–2018). There were two main groups: patients treated with surgery, and patients receiving non-surgical treatments(radiotherapy, radiochemotherapy, and chemotherapy). The Chi-square test and Kaplan–Meier method were used to compare the continuous variables and survival.Results: Among the 500 CEC patients, 278(55.6%) were male, and the median age was 60.9 ± 9.4 years. A total of 496 patients(99.2%) were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. In 171(34.2%) patients who received surgery, 22(12.9%) had undergone laryngectomy. In 322(64.4%) patients who received non-surgical treatments, 245(76.1%) received radiotherapy. Stratified survival analysis showed that only T stage was related with survival outcomes for CEC patients in the surgical group, and the outcomes between laryngectomy and non-laryngectomy patients were similar. It was noteworthy that the 5-year survival rate was similar in CEC patients among the different groups treated with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or radiochemotherapy(P = 0.244). Conclusions: The CEC patients had similar survival outcomes after curative esophagectomy and radiotherapy, including those with or without total laryngectomy. 8Pulping performance of transgenic poplar with depressed Caffeoyl-CoA O-methyltransferase显示文摘This paper evaluated pulping performance of 3-year-old field-grown transgenic poplar (Populus tremula × Populus alba). The transgenic poplar with anti-sense CCoAOMT had an about 13% decreased lignin content, in which a slight increment was found in S/G ratio. Chemical analysis showed that the transgenic poplar had significantly less benezene-ethanol extractive than that of control wood, but no significant differences were found in contents of ash, cold water extractive, hot water extractive, 1% NaOH extractive, holocellulose, pentosans and cellulose. Fiber assay demonstrated that down-regulation of CCoAOMT expression improved the fiber quality in transgenic poplar. 9Large numbersLarge numbers of new bacterial taxa found by Yunnan Institute of Microbiology显示文摘Extreme environments, primeval forest, sea sediments and plants in China yielded members of a new suborder, Jiangellineae, a new family Sinobacteraceae, and 23 new genera of actinomycetes and other bacteria. Three suggestions were made for further discoveries of new actinomycetes. 10The landscape of gene-CDS-haplotype diversity in rice:Properties,population organization,footprints of domestication and breeding,and implications for genetic improvement显示文摘Polymorphisms within gene coding regions represent the most important part of the overall genetic diversity of rice.We characterized the gene-coding sequence-haplotype(gcHap)diversity of 45963 rice genes in 3010 rice accessions.With an average of 226±390 gcHaps per gene in rice populations,rice genes could be classified into three main categories:12865 conserved genes,10254 subspecific differentiating genes,and 22844 remaining genes.We found that 39218 rice genes carry>255179 major gcHaps of potential functional importance.Most(87.5%)of the detected gcHaps were specific to subspecies or populations.The inferred proto-ancestors of local landrace populations reconstructed from conserved predominant(ancient)gcHaps correlated strongly with wild rice accessions from the same geographic regions,supporting a multiorigin(domestication)model of Oryza sativa.Past breeding efforts generally increased the gcHap diversity of modern varieties and'caused significant frequency shifts in predominant gcHaps of 14266 genes due to independent selection in the two subspecies.Low frequencies of“favorable”gcHaps at most known genes related to rice yield in modern varieties suggest huge potential for rice improvement by mining and pyramiding of favorable gcHaps.The gcHap data were demonstrated to have greater power than SNPs for the detection of causal genes that affect complex traits.The rice gcHap diversity dataset generated in this study would facilitate rice basic research and improvement in the future.Fan Zhang Chunchao Wang Min Li Yanru Cui Yingyao Shi Zhichao Wu Zhiqiang Hu Wensheng Wang Jianlong Xu Zhikang Li 2021Molecular Plant2021,14,5:5

12NDUFAB1 confers cardio-protection by enhancing mitochondrial bioenergetics through coordination of respiratory complex and supercomplex assembly显示文摘The impairment of mitochondrial bioenergetics,often coupled with exaggerated reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, is a fundamental disease mechanism in organs with a high demand for energy, including the heart. Building a more robust and safer cellular powerhouse holds the promise for protecting these organs in stressful conditions. Here, we demonstrate that NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit AB1 (NDUFAB1), also known as mitochondrial acyl carrier protein, acts as a powerful cardio-protector by conferring greater capacity and efficiency of mitochondrial energy metabolism. In particular, NDUFAB1 not only serves as a complex I subunit, but also coordinates the assembly of respiratory complexes I, II, and III, and supercomplexes, through regulating iron-sulfur biosynthesis and complex I subunit stability. Cardiac-specific deletion of Ndufab1 in mice caused defective bioenergetics and elevated ROS levels, leading to progressive dilated cardiomyopathy and eventual heart failure and sudden death. Overexpression of Ndufab1 effectively enhanced mitochondrial bioenergetics while limiting ROS production and protected the heart against ischemia-reperfusion injury. 13Preparation of Aminated Lignin through Etherification and Amination显示文摘A new method for the preparation of aminated lignin(AEL) through etherification and amination reaction was presented. Chlorine atoms were firstly introduced into lignin through its etherification with epichlorohydrin. Then, hydrophilic amine groups were grafted to the modified lignin structure through amination with ethylenediamine to obtain AEL. Subsequent acidification of AEL led to the ionized aminated lignin(IAEL). The results of our analyses showed that the nitrogen content of AEL was 6.9%. Foaming and emulsifying experiments indicated that AEL had better foamability and emulsifying properties than IAEL. Surface tension tests showed that AEL and IAEL had similar critical micelle concentration(CMC). However, IAEL had lower surface tension(36.33 mN/m) than AEL(42.89 mN/m) at CMC. 15Morphological and physiological analysis of narrow and striped leaf 1(nsl1) mutant of rice(Oryza sativa L.) and the gene mapping显示文摘The shape and color of rice leaves are important agronomic traits that directly influence the proportion of sunlight energy utilization and ultimately affect the yield and quality.A new mutant exhibiting stable inheritance was identified as derived from ethyl methane sulfonate(EMS)-treated restorer Jinhui 10,tentatively named as narrow and striped leaf 1(nsl1).The nsl1 displayed pale white leaves at the seeding stage and then white striped leaves in parallel to the main vein at the jointing stage.Meanwhile,its leaf blades are significantly narrower than the control group of Jinhui 10.The chloroplast structures of cells in the white striped area of the nsl1 mutant break down,and the photosynthetic pigments are significantly lower than that of the wild type.Moreover,fluorescence parameters,such as F0,F v/F m,U psII,qp,and ETR,in the nsl1 mutant are significantly lower than those of the wild type,and the photosynthetic efficiency is also significantly decreased.These changes in leaf color and shape,together with physiological changes in the nsl1,result in smaller plant height and a decrease in the most important agronomic traits,such as the number of grains per panicle,grain weight,etc.Genetic analysis shows that the narrow and striped traits of the nsl1 mutant are controlled by a single recessive nuclear gene,which is located between InDel 16and InDel 12 in chromosome 3.The physical distance is204 kb.So far,no similar genes of such leaf color and shape in this area have been reported.This study has laid a solid foundation for the gene cloning and function analysis of NSL1.Fangming Zhao Yong Zhang Yanru Wu Tongming Wang Ling Ma Zhenglin Yang Xia Wei Xianchun Sang Yinghua Ling Nan Wang Changwei Zhang Guanghua He 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,9:3
16The effect of serum luteinizing hormone on trigger day with a GnRH antagonist protocol in IVF/ICSI treatment显示文摘Objective:To investigate the effect of serum luteinizing hormone(LH)on trigger day with a Gonadotrophinreleasing hormone(GnRH)antagonist protocol in patients receiving in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection(IVF/ICSI)treatment for pregnancy outcomes.Methods:We retrospectively reviewed the medical documents of patients receiving IVF/ICSI with fresh embryo transfers from the Reproductive Medicine Center of Peking University People's Hospital between January 2016 and December 2018.730 patients were included and divided into three groups by their serum LH level determined on trigger day.All patients were categorized into Group A,Group B,and Group C based on LH concentrations<1.0 IU/L,1.0–5.0 IU/L,and from 5.0 to 10.0 IU/L on trigger day during the cycle,respectively.Comparisons were made between the three groups.Results:There was a significant difference in implantation rates between Group A and Group C(24.8%versus 40.1%,respectively,P<0.05).The clinical pregnancy rates(39.3%versus 54.3%,respectively,P=0.078)and live birth rate(LBR)(32.1%versus 46.5%,respectively,P=0.116),though the differences were not significant.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the OR of Group C for clinical pregnancy(OR=1.849,P=0.040)and for LBR(OR=1.915,P=0.034)were significant using Group A as the base level.Conclusions:Our study has demonstrated that patients with higher serum LH levels(5.0–10.0 IU/L)on trigger day in the GnRH antagonist protocol may confer better clinical outcomes than those with lower LH levels(<1.0 IU/L).Yanru Hou Li Tian Huixin Liu Jiajia Ai Yanbin Wang Huan Shen 2021Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinical Medicine2021,1,4:2
17Screening and flocculating properties of bioflocculant-producing microorganisms显示文摘Screening of bioflocculant-producing microorganisms was carried out. A strain that secreted excellent bioflocculant was isolated from municipal sewage using the spread plate technique, identified as Klebsiella sp. by the analytical profile index (API) identification system, and named A9. Several important factors that had an effect on A9’s bioflocculant-producing and flocculating activity were studied. A total of 4 g/L Kaolin suspension was used to measure the flocculating activity of the bioflocculant from A9.
