3Conversion between solid and beam element solutions of finite element method based on meta-modeling theory:development and application to a ramp tunnel structure显示文摘In this study,a new method for conversion of solid finite element solution to beam finite element solution is developed based on the meta-modeling theory which constructs a model consistent with continuum mechanics.The proposed method is rigorous and efficient compared to a typical conversion method which merely computes surface integration of solid element nodal stresses to obtain cross-sectional forces.The meta-modeling theory ensures the rigorousness of proposed method by defining a proper distance between beam element and solid element solutions in a function space of continuum mechanics.Results of numerical verification test that is conducted with a simple cantilever beam are used to find the proper distance function for this conversion.Time history analysis of the main tunnel structure of a real ramp tunnel is considered as a numerical example for the proposed conversion method.It is shown that cross-sectional forces are readily computed for solid element solution of the main tunnel structure when it is converted to a beam element solution using the proposed method.Further,envelopes of resultant forces which are of primary importance for the purpose of design,are developed for a given ground motion at the end.JASC Jayasinghe M. 10Impact of land use and land cover changes on carbon storage in rubber dominated tropical Xishuangbanna,South West China显示文摘Land use and land cover(LULC)play a significant role in carbon regulation.South-China accounts for~65%of China’s carbon sink.In Xishuangbanna(South-China),rubber is expanding rapidly creating an urgent need to understand and monitor LULC change and how spatial variation affects carbon storage(CS).This is vital for the formation and implementation of better land use management practices.We studied LULC changes of 22-year period;addressing how these changes have affected the CS.We quantified LULC changes between1988 and 2010 using remote sensing methods and calculated CS changes using InvEST.Results showed that between 1988 and 2010,the rate of deforestation accelerated to 203.2 km^(2)y^(−1)and~23%of forest were lost.Conversion of natural forest to rubber was responsible for 78%of this deforestation.Rubber expansion rate was 153.4 km^(2)y^(−1).Changes to LULC drove a temporal CS reduction 0.223 Tg C/km^(2).Local stakeholders have strong economic interest in converting land to more profitable plantations.Government efforts is required to control land conversion through new policies and incentives to retain natural forest.Assessment of specific potential land use change will be required to avoid promoting the conversion of high carbon storage land uses to low carbon storage land uses.Chaya Sarathchandra Yirga Alemu Abebe Fiona Ruth Worthy Iresha Lakmali Wijerathne Huaixia Ma Bi Yingfeng Guo Jiayu Huafang Chen Qiaoshun Yan Yanfei Geng Dayani SWeragoda Li-Li Li Yang Fengchun Sriyani Wickramasinghe Jianchu Xu 2021Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2021,7,1:0
