| 2 | Preliminary results pertaining to coseismic displacement and preseismic strain accumulation of the Lushan M_S7.0 earthquake,as reflected by GPS surveying显示文摘This paper presents the coseismic displacement and preseismic deformation fields of the Lushan MS7.0 earthquake that occurred on April 20,2013.The results are based on GPS observations along the Longmenshan fault and within its vicinity.The coseismic displacement and preseismic GPS results indicate that in the strain release of this earthquake,the thrust rupture is dominant and the laevorotation movement is secondary.Furthermore,we infer that any possible the rupture does not reach the earth’s surface,and the seismogenic fault is most likely one fault to the east of the Guanxian-Anxian fault.Some detailed results are obtainable.(1)The southern segment of the Longmenshan fault is locked preceding the Lushan earthquake.After the Wenchuan earthquake,the strain accumulation rate in the southeast direction accelerates in the epicenter of the Lushan earthquake,and the angle between the principal compressional strain and the seismogenic fault indicates that a sinistral deformation background in the direction of the seismogenic fault precedes the Lushan earthquake.Therefore,it is evident that the Wenchuan MS8.0 earthquake accelerated the pregnancy of the Lushan earthquake.(2)The coseismic displacements reflected by GPS data are mainly located in a region that is 230 km(NW direction)×100 km(SW direction),and coseismic displacements larger than 10 mm lie predominantly in a100-km region(NW direction).(3)On a large scale,the coseismic displacement shows thrust characteristics,but the associated values are remarkably small in the near field(within 70 km)of the earthquake fault.Meanwhile,the thrust movement in this70-km region does not correspond with the attenuation characteristics of the strain release,indicating that the rupture of this earthquake does not reach the earth’s surface.(4)The laevorotation movements are remarkable in the 50-km region,which is located in the hanging wall that is close to the earthquake fault,and the corresponding values in this case correlate with the attenuation characteristics of the strain release. | WU YanQiang JIANG ZaiSen WANG Min CHE Shi LIAO Hua LI Qiang LI Peng YANG YongLin XIANG HePing SHAO ZhiGang WANG WuXing WEI WenXin LIU XiaoXia | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,28: | 33 |

| 4 | Study on the flow field and concentration characteristics of the multiple tandem jets in crossflow显示文摘The characteristics of single and multiple tandem jets(n=2,3,4) in crossflow have been investigated using the realizable k-ε model.The results of this model agree well with experimental measurements using PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) or LIF(Laser Induced Fluorescence).We analyzed the calculated results and obtained detailed properties of velocity and concentration of the multiple jets in the pre-merging and post-merging regions.When the velocity ratio is identical,the bending degree of the leading jet is greater than that of the rear jets.The last jet penetrates deeper as the jet number increases,and the shielding effect of the front jet declines with jet spacing increase.Interaction of the jet and crossflow induces formation and development of a counter-rotating vortex pair(CVP).CVP makes the distribution of concentration appear kidney-shaped(except in the merging region),and maximum concentration is at the center of the counter-rotating vortex.Concentration at the CVP center is 1.03-1.4 times that of the local jet trajectory.Post-merging velocity and concentration characteristics differ from those of the single jet because of the shielding effect and mixing of all jets.This paper presents a unified formula of trajectory,concentration half-width and trajectory dilution,by introducing a reduction factor. | LI ZhiWei HUAI WenXin QIAN ZhongDong | 2012 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,10: | 22 |
| 5 | Numerical simulation of sandy bed erosion by 2D vertical jet显示文摘A two-dimensional numerical model of vertical jet scour was developed based on the turbulent flow theory and jet scour mechanism. In this model,drag force acts as the main reference variable and the critical Shields number acts as the incipient motion criteria of sediment. The morphological change in the bed caused by bed-load transport is simulated using the moving mesh method and the suspended-load is not considered. An experiment investigating vertical clear water jet scour was conducted in the laboratory,and some effective experimental results,such as flow patterns and distribution characteristics of scour pits,were obtained. Numerical simulation of the 2D jet scour was conducted using the same parameters as were used in the flume experiment. The evolution process of the jet scour observed in the experiment was simulated by the new model;validation of the numerical model and the algorithm was conducted. | 7 | LncRNA PVT1 promotes ovarian cancer progression by silencing miR-214显示文摘Objective: Emerging evidence indicates that long non-coding RNAs(lnc RNAs) are critical in carcinogenesis and progression of ovarian cancer. This study aimed to explore the functions and molecular mechanisms of plasmacytoma variant translocation I(PVT1) in ovarian cancer Methods: PVT1 and miR-214 were detected by qRT-PCR assays in ovarian cancer tissues and cells. The cell proliferation,migration, and invasion abilities were detected by cell functional experiments, respectively. Western blot assay was performed to detect epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT) markers. MiR-214 expression regulated by PVT1 was studied by RNA immunoprecipitation(RIP) and chromatin immunoprecipitation(Ch IP) assays.Results: The expression of PVT1 was up-regulated in ovarian cancer tissues and cell lines. Elevated PVT1 expression was associated with advanced stage and indicated poor prognosis for ovarian cancer patients. The knockdown of PVT1 impaired SKOV3 cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in vitro. | 11 | Analyzing Industrial Structure Evolution of Old Industrial Cities Using Evolutionary Resilience Theory:A Case Study in Shenyang of China显示文摘The recession and revitalization of old industrial cities concerns urban industrial evolution and its characteristics. Based on the theory of evolutionary resilience, we developed an analytical framework for the industrial structure evolution of old industrial cities, and applied the framework to a case study in Shenyang. The following conclusions are drawn. First, since 1978, Shenyang's industrial growth capacity has shown fluctuation between ‘contraction-expansion'. As the secondary industry has a much stronger expansionary and contractionary capacity for growth, this results in lacking stability leading to industrial structure transformation. Second, since 1999, the orientation towards a high-end manufacturing industry in Shenyang has weakened, and the evolution of the new and old growth path is characterized by low-end orientation. Third, since 2007, Shenyang's industrial innovation output capacity has dropped sharply which has been significantly affected by scientific and technological personnel and enterprise-owed science and technology institutions and to a less extent by R&D expenditure. We applied the resilience theory to study the industrial evolution of an old industrial city, explored new study perspectives on industrial evolution and verified the applicability of the resilience theory. | 12 | Hydrothermal Dolomite in the Upper Sinian (Upper Proterozoic) Dengying Formation, East Sichuan Basin, China显示文摘Hydrothermal Dolomite(HTD) is present in the Upper Sinian(Upper Proterozoic) Dengying Formation, east Sichuan Basin, China. The strata are comprised by primary dolomite. The HTD has various textures, including zebra dolomite, subhorizontal sheet-like cavities filled by saddle dolomite and breccias cemented by saddle dolomites as well occur as a fill of veins and fractures. Also co-occur MVT type lead-zinc ores in the study area. The δ13C and δ18O isotopes of HTD in the Upper Sinian Dengying Formation are lighter than those of the host rocks, while 87Sr/86 Sr is higher. The apparent difference in carbon, oxygen and strontium isotopes, especially the large difference in 87Sr/86 Sr isotopes ratio indicate crystallization from hot basinal and/or hydrothermal fluids. Saddle dolomite was precipitated at temperatures of 270-320°C. The diagenetic parasequences of mineral assemblage deposited in the Dengying Formation are:(1) dolomite host rock →sphalerite-galena-barite-fluorite;(2) dolomite host rock →saddle dolomite →quartz;(3) dolomite host rock → saddle dolomite→bitumen;(4) dolomite host rock → saddle dolomite → barite. The mean chemical composition of the host dolomite matrix and HTD didn't change much during hydrothermal process. The fluids forming the HTDs in the Dengying Formation were mixtures of freshwater from the unconformity at the top of Sinian, fluids from diagenetic compaction and hydrocarbon generation & expulsion from the Lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation mudstones or the Doushantuo Formation silty mudstones, and hydrothermal fluids from the basement. The hydrocarbon reservoirs associated with the HTD were mostly controlled by the basement faults and fractures and karsting processes at the unconformity separating Sinian and Cambrian strata. The hydrocarbon storage spaces of HTD included dissolved cavities and intercrystalline pores. Dissolution cavities are extensive at the top of Dengying Formation, up to about 46 m below the unconformity between Sinian and Cambrian and were generated mainly during karstification. Hydrothermal alteration enhanced the reservoir property of the Dengying Formation dolomites with 3%-5% increase in porosity. No agreement has been reached why zebra dolomite occurs only in the Upper Sinian strata, which would indicate that HTD mineralization occurred during two different periods, each of them related to major extensional tectonic event. The early one related to the Xingkai taphrogenesis(Z2-?1)and the later one to the Emei taphrogenesis(D2-T2). | 14 | Biomechanical comparison of locking plate and crossing metallic and absorbable screws fixations for intra-articular calcaneal fractures显示文摘The locking plate and percutaneous crossing metallic screws and crossing absorbable screws have been used clinically to treat intra-articular calcaneal fractures, but little is known about the biomechanical differences between them. This study compared the biomechanical stability of calcaneal fractures fixed using a locking plate and crossing screws. Three-dimensional finite-element models of intact and fractured calcanei were developed based on the CT images of a cadaveric sample. Surgeries were simulated on models of Sanders type III calcaneal fractures to produce accurate postoperative models fixed by the three implants. A vertical force was applied to the superior surface of the subtalar joint to simulate the stance phase of a walking gait. This model was validated by an in vitro experiment using the same calcaneal sample. The intact calcaneus showed greater stiffness than the fixation models. Of the three fixations, the locking plate produced the greatest stiffness and the highest von Mises stress peak. The micromotion of the fracture fixated with the locking plate was similar to that of the fracture fixated with the metallic screws but smaller than that fixated with the absorbable screws. Fixation with both plate and crossing screws can be used to treat intra-articular calcaneal fractures. | 18 | Changes of soil microbial communities during decomposition of straw residues under different land uses显示文摘Monitoring soil microbial communities can lead to better understanding of the transformation processes of organic carbon in soil. The present study investigated the changes of soil microbial communities during straw decomposition in three fields, i.e., cropland, peach orchard and vineyard. Straw decomposition was monitored for 360 d using a mesh-bag method. Soil microbial metabolic activity and functional diversity were measured using the Biolog-Eco system. In all three fields, dried straws with a smaller size decomposed faster than their fresh counterparts that had a larger size. Dried corn straw decomposed slower than dried soybean straw in the early and middle stages, while the reverse trend was found in the late stage. The cropland showed the highest increase in microbial metabolic activity during the straw decomposition, whereas the peach orchard showed the lowest. There was no significant change in the species dominance or evenness of soil microbial communities during the straw decomposition. However, the species richness fluctuated significantly, with the peach orchard showing the highest richness and the cropland the lowest. With different carbon sources, the peach orchard utilised carbon the most, followed by the cropland and the vineyard. In all three fields, carbon was utilized in following decreasing order: saccharides>amino acids>polymers>polyamines>carboxylic acids>aromatic compounds. In terms of carbon-source utilization, soil microbial communities in the peach orchard were less stable than those in the cropland. The metabolic activity and species dominance of soil microbial communities were negatively correlated with the straw residual percentage. Refractory components were primarily accumulated in the late stages, thus slowing down the straw decomposition. The results showed that dried and crushed corn straw was better for application in long-term fields. | 20 | Clinical applications of MARSALA for preimplantation genetic diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy显示文摘Conventional PCR methods combined with linkage analysis based on short tandem repeats(STRs) or Karyomapping with single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) arrays, have been applied to preimplantation genetic diagnosis(PGD) for spinal muscular atrophy(SMA), an autosome recessive disorder. However, it has limitations in SMA diagnosis by Karyomapping, and these methods are unable to distinguish wildtype embryos with carriers effectively. Mutated allele revealed by sequencing with aneuploidy and linkage analyses(MARSALA) is a new method allowing embryo selection by a one-step next-generation sequencing(NGS) procedure, which has been applied in PGD for both autosome dominant and X-linked diseases in our group previously. In this study, we carried out PGD based on MARSALA for two carrier families with SMA affected children. As a result, one of the couples has given birth to a healthy baby free of mutations in SMA-causing gene. It is the first time that MARSALA was applied to PGD for SMA, and we can distinguish the embryos with heterozygous deletion(carriers) from the wild-type(normal) ones accurately through this NGS-based method. In addition, direct mutation detection allows us to identify the affected embryos(homozygous deletion), which can be regarded as probands for linkage analysis, in case that the affected family member is absent.
