| 3 | Earth surface processes and their effects on human behavior in monsoonal China during the Pleistocene-Holocene epochs显示文摘There is a wide diversity of landforms in China.The topography of three major terraces,decreasing in height stepwise from west to east,was formed by the early Miocene.With the commencement of the Great Northern Hemisphere Glaciations(GHGs)and the glacial-interglacial cycles in the Pleistocene,thick loess deposits accumulated in north China,and fluvial terraces were formed and lakes expanded and contracted in eastern and central China.The earliest evidence of hominins in China is dated to ~1.7 Ma;they occupied the monsoon-dominated region for a long interval,until the late Pleistocene,~50 ka.In this study,we investigated a large area rich in the relics and artifacts of early man.The results indicate that the early humans occupied riverine areas,especially medium-sized fluvial basins,and lake shores.Even in the relatively recent geological past,the occupation and abandonment of settlements were directly forced by the shifting of sand dune fields in the desert-loess transitional zone,which in turn was closely associated with variations in the monsoon climate and vegetation patterns.Our observations indicate that landforms were one of the main determinants of early human behavior,in that loess tableland,large alluvial plains,desert-Gobi areas,and the Tibetan Plateau,were not suitable environments for early human settlement.We infer that the early humans in China adapted their behavior to specific landforms and landform processes.The monsoon climate,which shapes the large-scale step-like pattern of fluvial landforms,promotes vegetation coverage and dominates soil formation,provides a crucial context for early human adaptation.The adaptation of early humans to earth surface processes in East Asia is investigated for the first time in this study.Future investigations will provide further information that will increase our understanding of the linkage between early human behavior and landform processes in East Asia. | LU Huayu ZHUO Haixin ZHANG Wenchao WANG Shejiang ZHANG Hongyan SUN Xuefeng JIA Xin XU Zhiwei WANG Xianyan | 2017 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2017,27,11: | 12 |

| 5 | A direct position determination method with combined TDOA and FDOA based on particle filter显示文摘The localization of a stationary transmitter using moving receivers is considered.The original Direct Position Determination(DPD) methods, with combined Time Difference of Arrival(TDOA) and Frequency Difference of Arrival(FDOA), do not perform well under low Signal-toNoise Ratio(SNR), and worse still, the computation cost is difficult to accept when the computational capabilities are limited.To get better positioning performance, we present a new DPD algorithm that proves to be more computationally efficient and more precise for weak signals than the conventional approach.The algorithm partitions the signal received with the same receiver into multiple non-overlapping short-time signal segments, and then uses the TDOA, the FDOA and the coherency among the short-time signals to locate the target.The fast maximum likelihood estimation, one iterative method based on particle filter, is designed to solve the problem of high computation load.A secondary but important result is a derivation of closed-form expressions of the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound(CRLB).The simulation results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper outperforms the traditional DPD algorithms with more accurate results and higher computational efficiency, and especially at low SNR, it is more close to the CRLB. | Zhiyu LU Bin BA Jianhui WANG Wenchao LI Daming WANG | 2018 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2018,31,1: | 11 |
| 6 | Efficient microwave-assisted photocatalytic degradation of endocrine disruptor dimethyl phthalate over composite catalyst ZrO_x /ZnO显示文摘A highly active ZrO x /ZnO catalyst for microwave-assisted photocatalytic (MW/PC) degradation of endocrine disruptor dimethyl phthalate (DMP) has been prepared via cetyltrimethylammonium assisted hydrothermal method. The ZrO x /ZnO was characterized by XPS, XRD, UV-Vis, BET and SEM techniques. The XPS result showed that Zr oxides with different valences (+2, +3, +4) co-existed in ZrO x /ZnO. By using the ZrO x /ZnO (0.1 g), the TOC removal efficiency of DMP (100 mL of 50 mg/L) was 88% after 30 min reaction, which was about 15% higher than P25 TiO 2 . It was found that the removal process of DMP by MW/PC followed pseudo first-order kinetics in all cases, and ZrO x /ZnO significantly accelerated the degradation of DMP. The degradation half-life time of DMP was shortened 45% compared with P25 TiO 2 . A possible catalytic mechanism was proposed based on microwave response and interfacial charge transfer. ZrO x /ZnO could be reused for six times without obvious decrease in catalytic activity. | 7 | Pulsating hydraulic fracturing technology in low permeability coal seams显示文摘Based on the difficult situation of gas drainage in a single coal bed of high gas content and low permeability, we investigate the technology of pulsating hydraulic pressure relief, the process of crank plunger movement and the mechanism of pulsating pressure formation using theoretical research, mathematical modeling and field testing. We analyze the effect of pulsating pressure on the formation and growth of fractures in coal by using the pulsating hydraulic theory in hydraulics. The research results show that the amplitude of fluctuating pressure tends to increase in the case where the exit is blocked, caused by pulsating pressure reflection and frictional resistance superposition, and it contributes to the growth of fractures in coal. The crack initiation pressure of pulsating hydraulic fracturing is 8 MPa, which is half than that of normal hydraulic fracturing; the pulsating hydraulic fracturing influence radius reaches 8 m.The total amount of gas extraction is increased by 3.6 times, and reaches 50 L/min at the highest point.The extraction flow increases greatly, and is 4 times larger than that of drilling without fracturing and 1.2times larger than that of normal hydraulic fracturing. | 11 | Thermodynamic study and syntheses of β-SiAlON ceramics显示文摘Based on the thermodynamic study of β-SiAlON and one section of Si-Al-O-N phase diagram for Si/Al=9 at 1773 K, the pure β-SiAlON (Si6-ZAlZOZN8-Z) ceramics with different Z values (viz. 1.4, 1.8, 2.2, 2.6, 3.0) were synthesized at different temperatures using the pressure-less technique. The relationship of the experimental-saturated Z value (the maximum Z value at a constant temperature) with temperature was then discussed. The experimental results indicated that there is a good linear relationship between Z value and temperature, which is Z=_10.76+0.0071T (R=0.9985). The β-SiAlON stability regions at different temperatures were exhibited in a sketch phase diagram of Si3N4-SiO2-Al2O3-AlN system. | 15 | Photoelectrocatalytic reduction of CO_2 to methanol over a photosystem Ⅱ-enhanced Cu foam/Si-nanowire system显示文摘A solar-light double illumination photoelectrocatalytic cell(SLDIPEC) was fabricated for autonomous CO_2 reduction and O_2 evolution with the aid of photosystem II(PS-II, an efficient light-driven water-oxidized enzyme from nature) and utilized in a photoanode solution. The proposed SLPEC system was composed of Cu foam as the photoanode and p-Si nanowires(Si-NW) as the photocathode. Under solar irradiation, it exhibited a super-photoelectrocatalytic performance for CO_2 conversion to methanol, with a high evolution rate(41.94 mmol/hr), owing to fast electron transfer from PS-II to Cu foam.Electrons were subsequently trapped by Si-NW through an external circuit via bias voltage(0.5 V), and a suitable conduction band potential of Si(-0.6 e V) allowed CO_2 to be easily reduced to CH_3 OH at the photocathode. The constructed Z-scheme between Cu foam and Si-NW can allow the SLDIPEC system to reduce CO_2(8.03 mmol/hr) in the absence of bias voltage. | 16 | Expression of the DNA-repair protein XRCC1 and DNA-repair enzyme Ku70 mRNA in the rat cerebral cortex following global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion Is this correlated with neuroprotective effects of theanine?显示文摘BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have shown that apoptosis, caused by cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, is a dynamic evolving process that occurs in a time-dependent fashion. Non-apoptotic cells can result in apoptosis, with a prolonged reperfusion period and an accumulation of DNA damage. Recent studies have indicated that theanine has a protective effect on the brain. Nonetheless, there is no research relating to whether theanine is neuroprotective following brain injury. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of theanine on apoptosis in the cerebral cortex and mRNA expression of the DNA repair protein, XRCC1, and DNA repair enzyme, Ku70, at various time points following global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion in rats. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized, controlled animal study was performed at the Pharmacological Laboratory of Animal Experimental Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, from April to October 2007. MATERIALS: Theanine (Wuhan Remote Technology Co., Ltd., China), XRCC1, Ku70 and GAPDH primers (Shanghai Sangon Biological Engineering Technology & Services Co., Ltd., China) were used in this study. METHODS: A total of 108 healthy, male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham operation, ischemia/reperfusion and theanine groups. Each group was further divided into 6 sub- groups, with six rats in each, according to reperfusion time (2, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours). Rat models of global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion were established by the four-vessel occlusion method. Theanine (1 000 mg/kg) was injected into the caudal vein of rats in the theanine group immediately after surgery. Saline (4 mL/kg) was used in the sham operation and ischemia/reperfusion groups. The same dose was administered every 24 hours. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Flow cytometry was employed to determine apoptosis of cerebral cortical neurons. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was applied to quantify the expression of XRCC1 and Ku70 mRNA in the cerebral cortex. RESULTS: The apoptotic rate in the ischemia/reperfusion group was significantly greater compared with the sham operation group at various time points (P < 0.05). The apoptotic rate in the theanine group was significantly diminished compared with the ischemia/reperfusion group, but significantly increased compared with the sham operation group at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). Ex- pression of XRCC1 and Ku70 mRNA was significantly decreased in the ischemia/reperfusion group compared with the sham operation group at 2, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). The relative expression of XRCC1 mRNA in the theanine group was significantly increased compared with the ischemia/reperfusion group, but significantly reduced compared with the sham operation group at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). The relative expression of Ku70 mRNA was significantly lower in the theanine group compared with the sham operation group at 2, 6 and 12 hours (P < 0.05) and significantly greater than the ischemia/reperfusion group at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The apoptotic rate in rats following global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury reaches a peak at 24 hours after reperfusion; however, the levels of DNA repair protein began to decrease after only 2 hours of reperfusion. | 17 | The occurrence of diffuse axonal injury in the brain:associated with the accumulation and clearance of myelin debris显示文摘The accumulation of myelin debris may be a major contributor to the inflammatory response after diffuse axonal injury. In this study, we examined the accumulation and clearance of myelin debris in a rat model of diffuse axonal injury. Oil Red O staining was performed on sections from the cerebral cortex, hippocampus and brain stem to identify the myelin debris. Seven days after diffuse axonal injury, many Oil Red O-stained particles were observed in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus and brain stem. In the cerebral cortex and hippocampus, the amount of myelin debris peaked at 14 days after injury, and decreased significantly at 28 days. In the brain stem, the amount of myelin debris peaked at 7 days after injury, and decreased significantly at 14 and 28 days. In the cortex and hippocampus, some myelin debris could still be observed at 28 days after diffuse axonal injury. We found that 1T moderate intensity SMF inhibits cell proliferation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-2Z cells and the Akt/m TOR signaling pathway, which is upregulated in many cancers. m TOR inhibitors are potential chemodrugs, but their clinical effects are limited by the feedback reactivation of other signaling components such as EGFR and Akt.We showed that 1 T SMF increases the antitumor efficacy of m TOR inhibitor Torin 2. In addition, 1 T SMF increases the inhibition efficiency on m TOR substrates phosphorylation and represses the m TOR inhibitor-induced feedback reactivation of EGFR and Akt. | 20 | Excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence spectroscopy for characterization of organic matter in membrane bioreactors: Principles, methods and applications显示文摘The membrane bioreactor(MBR)technology is a rising star for wastewater treatment.The pollutant elimination and membrane fouling performances of MBRs are essentially related to the dissolved organic matter(DOM)in the system.Three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix(3D-EEM)fluorescence spectroscopy,a powerful tool for the rapid and sensitive characterization of DOM,has been extensively applied in MBR studies;however,only a limited portion of the EEM fingerprinting information was utilized.This paper revisits the principles and methods of fluorescence EEM,and reviews the recent progress in applying EEM to characterize DOM in MBR studies.We systematically introduced the information extracted from EEM by considering the fluorescence peak location/intensity,wavelength regional distribution,and spectral deconvolution(giving fluorescent component loadings/scores),and discussed how to use the information to interpret the chemical compositions,physiochemical properties,biological activities,membrane retention/fouling behaviors,and migration/transformation fates of DOM in MBR systems.In addition to conventional EEM indicators,novel fluorescent parameters are summarized for potential use,including quantum yield,Stokes shift,excited energy state,and fluorescence lifetime.The current limitations of EEM-based DOM characterization are also discussed,with possible measures proposed to improve applications in MBR monitoring. | Jinlan Yu Kang Xiao Wenchao Xue Yue-xiao Shen Jihua Tan Shuai Liang Yanfen Wang Xia Huang | 2020 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2020,14,2: | 3 |
