| 1 | Resting heart rate control and prognosis in coronary artery disease patients with hypertension previously treated with bisoprolol:a subgroup analysis of the BISO-CAD study显示文摘Background:Resting heart rate(RHR)is considered as a strong predictor of total mortality and hospitalization due to heart failure in hypertension patients.Bisoprolol fumarate,a second-generation beta-adrenoreceptor blockers(β-blocker)is commonly prescribed drug to manage hypertension.The present study was to retrospectively evaluate changes in the average RHR and its association with cardiovascular outcomes in bisoprolol-treated coronary artery disease(CAD)patients from the CAD treated with bisoprolol(BISO-CAD)study who had comorbid hypertension.Methods::We performed ad-hoc analysis for hypertension sub-group of the BISO-CAD study(n=866),which was a phase IV,multination,multi-center,single-arm,observational study carried out from October 2011 to July 2015 across China,South Korea,and Vietnam.Multivariate regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with incidence of composite cardiac clinical outcome(CCCO),the results were presented as adjusted odds ratio(OR)along with 95%confidence interval(CI)and adjusted P value.Results::A total of 681 patients(mean age:64.77±10.33 years)with hypertension from BISO-CAD study were included in the analysis.Bisoprolol improved CCCOs in CAD patients with comorbid hypertension,with RHR<65 and<70 beats/min compared with RHR≥65 and≥75 beats/min,respectively,in the efficacy analysis(EA)set.In addition,it lowered RHR in both intent-to-treat(ITT)and EA groups after 6,12,and 18 months of treatment.Further,RHR 70 to 74 beats/min resulted in significantly higher risk of CCCOs EA set of patients(adjusted OR:4.34;95%CI:1.19-15.89;P=0.03).Also,events of hospitalization due to acute coronary syndrome were higher when RHR 69 to 74 beats/min compared to RHR<69 beats/min in ITT patients.Conclusion::Bisoprolol can effectively reduce RHR in Asian CAD patients with comorbid hypertension and hence,improve CCCO without affecting their blood pressure. | Yun-Dai Chen Xin-Chun Yang Vinh Nguyen Pham Shi-An Huang Guo-Sheng Fu Xiao-Ping Chen Binh Quang Truong Yu Yang Shao-Wen Liu Tian-Rong Ma Dong-Soo Kim Tae-hoon Kim | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,10: | 10 |
| 2 | Structure-based Comparative Analysis and Prediction of N-linked Glycosylation Sites in Evolutionarily Distant Eukaryotes显示文摘The asparagine-X-serine/threonine (NXS/T) motif, where X is any amino acid except proline, is the consensus motif for N-linked glycosylation. Significant numbers of high-resolution crystal structures of glycosylated proteins allow us to carry out structural analysis of the N-linked glycosylation sites (NGS). Our analysis shows that there is enough structural information from diverse glycoproteins to allow the development of rules which can be used to predict NGS. A Python-based tool was developed to investigate asparagines implicated in N-glycosylation in five species: Homo sapiens, Mus musculus, Drosophila melanogaster, Arabidopsis thaliana and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Our analysis shows that 78% of all asparagines of NXS/T motif involved in N-glycosylation are localized in the loop/turn conformation in the human proteome. Similar distribution was revealed for all the other species examined. Comparative analysis of the occurrence of NXS/T motifs not known to be glycosylated and their reverse sequence (S/TXN) shows a similar distribution across the secondary structural elements, indicating that the NXS/T motif in itself is not biologically relevant. Based on our analysis, we have defined rules to determine NGS. Using machine learning methods based on these rules we can predict with 93% accuracy if a particular site will be glycosylated. If structural information is not available the tool uses structural prediction results resulting in 74% accuracy. The tool was used to identify glycosylation sites in 108 human proteins with structures and 2247 proteins without structures that have acquired NXS/T site/s due to non-synonymous variation. | 5 | Xanthine oxidase inhibitors from Archidendron clypearia(Jack.) I.C. Nielsen: Results from systematic screening of Vietnamese medicinal plants显示文摘Objective: To screen Vietnamese medicinal plants for xanthine oxidase(XO) inhibitory activity and to isolate XO inhibitor(s) from the most active plant. Methods: The plants materials were extracted by methanol. The active plant materials were fractionated using different organic solvents, including n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol. Bioassay-guided fractionation and column chromatography were used to isolate compounds. The compounds structures were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data, including IR, MS, and NMR. Results: Three hundreds and eleven methanol extracts(CME) belonging to 301 Vietnamese herbs were screened for XO inhibitory activity. Among these plants, 57 extracts displayed XO inhibitory activity at 100 μg/m L with inhibition rates of over 50%. The extracts of Archidendron clypearia, Smilax poilanei, Linociera ramiflora and Passiflora foetida exhibited the greatest potency with IC_(50) values below 30 μg/m L. Chemical study performed on the extract of Archidendron clypearia resulted in the isolation of six compounds, including 1-octacosanol, docosenoic acid, daucosterol, methyl gallate, quercitrin and(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan. The compound(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan showed the most potent XO inhibitory activity with an IC_(50) value of 25.5 μmol/L. Conclusions: From this investigation, four Vietnamese medicinal plants were identified to have XO inhibitory effects with IC_(50) values of the methanol extracts below 30 μg/m L. | 6 | Novel role of phosphodiesterase inhibitors in the management of end-stage heart failure显示文摘In advanced heart failure(HF), chronic inotropic therapy with intravenous milrinone, a phosphodiesterase Ⅲ inhibitor, is used as a bridge to advanced management that includes transplantation, ventricular assist device implantation, or palliation. This is especially true when repeated attempts to wean off inotropic support result in symptomatic hypotension, worsened symptoms, and/or progressive organ dysfunction. Unfortunately, patients in this clinical predicament are considered hemodynamically labile and may escape the benefits of guidelinedirected HF therapy. In this scenario, chronic milrinone infusion may be beneficial as a bridge to introduction of evidence based HF therapy. However, this strategy is not well studied, and in general, chronic inotropic infusion is discouraged due to potential cardiotoxicity that accelerates disease progression and proarrhythmic effects that increase sudden death. Alternatively, chronic inotropic support with milrinone infusion is a unique opportunity in advanced HF. This review discusses evidence that long-term intravenous milrinone support may allow introduction of beta blocker(BB) therapy. When used together, milrinone does not attenuate the clinical benefits of BB therapy while BB mitigates cardiotoxic effects of milrinone. In addition, BB therapy decreases the risk of adverse arrhythmias associated with milrinone. We propose that advanced HF patients who are intolerant to BB therapy may benefit from a trial of intravenous milrinone as a bridge to BB initiation. | 8 | Dynamic spillovers between the term structure of interest rates,bitcoin,and safe‑haven currencies显示文摘This study examines the connectedness between the US yield curve components(i.e.,level,slope,and curvature),exchange rates,and the historical volatility of the exchange rates of the main safe-haven fiat currencies(Canada,Switzerland,EURO,Japan,and the UK)and the leading cryptocurrency,the Bitcoin.Results of the static analysis show that the level and slope of the yield curve are net transmitters of shocks to both the exchange rate and its volatility.The exchange rate of the Euro and the volatility of the Euro and the Canadian dollar exchange rate are net transmitters of shocks.Meanwhile,the curvature of the yield curve and the Japanese Yen,Swiss Franc,and British Pound act mainly as net receivers.Our static connectedness analysis shows that Bitcoin is mainly independent of shocks from the yield curve’s level,slope,and curvature,and from any main currency investigated.These findings hint that Bitcoin might provide hedging benefits.However,similar to the static analysis,our dynamic analysis shows that during different periods and particularly in stressful times,Bitcoin is far from being isolated from other currencies or the yield curve components.The dynamic analysis allows us to observe Bitcoin’s connectedness in times of stress.Evidence supporting this contention is the substantially increased connectedness due to policy shocks,political uncertainty,and systemic crisis,implying no empirical support for Bitcoin’s safe-haven property during stress times.The increased connectedness in the dynamic analysis compared with the static approach implies that in normal times and especially in stressful times,Bitcoin has the property of a diversifier.The results may have important implications for investors and policymakers regarding their risk monitoring and their assets allocation and investment strategies. | David Y.Aharon Zaghum Umar Xuan Vinh Vo | 2021 | Financial Innovation2021,7,1: | 4 |

| 10 | Relationship between skin fold thickness and insulin resistance in the essential hypertensive patients in Vietnam显示文摘Previous studies reported a close relationship between obesity and insulin resistance in the essential hypertensive patients. Objective In this study, we examined the relationship between the skin fold thickness and insulin resistance then developed a formula to estimate the insulin resistance index according to the skin fold thickness in the essential hypertensive patients. Subjects and Methods Medical records of 80 patients (37 males, 43 females) were reviewed and the data were tabulated. Anthropometric indexes (including height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, and skins fold thickness at 5 fatty difference points on the Erdheim diagram), fasting plasma glucose and insulin concentration were recorded. The mean age was 57.0±9.2 years. The insulin resistance index was calculated following the Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA) formula. Results Compared with the group with BMI<23kg/m2, the group with BMI≥23 kg/m2 had higher fasting insulin concentration (8.85 ± 4.97 pmol/L vs 15.60 ± 8.70 pmol/L, P<0.001 ) and higher insulin resistance index in (2.15±1,24 vs 3.76±2.22, P<0.001). No significant difference in fasting plasma insulin concentration,insulin resistance index between male and female was observed (P>0.05). There was a positive correlation between skin fold thickness and the fasting insulin concentration and insulin resistance index. The skin fold thickness at point A8 had the best coefficient correlated with fasting plasma insulin(r=0.79, P<0.001) and insulin resistance index (r= 0.79, P < 0.001). | 12 | Ethanol mediated As(Ⅲ) adsorption onto Zn-loaded pinecone biochar:Experimental investigation,modeling,and optimization using hybrid artificial neural network-genetic algorithm approach显示文摘Organic matters(OMs) and their oxidization products often influence the fate and transport of heavy metals in the subsurface aqueous systems through interaction with the mineral surfaces. This study investigates the ethanol(EtO H)-mediated As(Ⅲ) adsorption onto Zn-loaded pinecone(PC) biochar through batch experiments conducted under Box–Behnken design. The effect of EtO H on As(Ⅲ) adsorption mechanism was quantitatively elucidated by fitting the experimental data using artificial neural network and quadratic modeling approaches. The quadratic model could describe the limiting nature of EtO H and pH on As(Ⅲ) adsorption,whereas neural network revealed the stronger influence of Et OH(64.5%) followed by pH(20.75%)and As(Ⅲ) concentration(14.75%) on the adsorption phenomena. Besides, the interaction among process variables indicated that Et OH enhances As(Ⅲ) adsorption over a pH range of2 to 7, possibly due to facilitation of ligand–metal(Zn) binding complexation mechanism.Eventually, hybrid response surface model–genetic algorithm(RSM–GA) approach predicted a better optimal solution than RSM, i.e., the adsorptive removal of As(Ⅲ)(10.47 μg/g) is facilitated at 30.22 mg C/L of Et OH with initial As(Ⅲ) concentration of 196.77 μg/L at pH 5.8. | 14 | Theoretical basis of a beneficial role for vitamin D in viral hepatitis显示文摘Abnormal bone metabolism and dysfunction of the calcium-parathyroid hormone-vitamin D axis have been reported in patients with viral hepatitis. Some studies suggested a relationship between vitamin D and viral hepatitis. Genetic studies have provided an opportunity to identify the proteins that link vitamin D to the pathology of viral hepatitis (i.e., the major histocompatibility complex class Ⅱ molecules, the vitamin D receptor, cytochrome P 450 , the renin-angiotensin system, apolipoprotein E, liver X receptor, toll-like receptor, and the proteins regulated by the Sp1 promoter gene). Vitamin D also exerts its effects on viral hepatitis via non-genomic factors, i.e., matrix metalloproteinase, endothelial vascular growth factor, prostaglandins, cyclooxygenase-2, and oxidative stress. In conclusion, vitamin D could have a beneficial role in viral hepatitis. | 19 | Fabrication and properties of high efficiency luminescent nanorods EuPO_4·H_2O by soft template method显示文摘Europium orthophosphate monohydrate(EuPO4·H2O) nanorods with typical dimensions of about 10-30 nm in diameter and 300-500 nm in length were prepared by using the soft template method.The effects of using diethylene glycol(DEG) and polyethylene gly-col(PEG) polymers as well as the pH values on the size,crystalline structure and morphology of EuPO4·H2O nanorods were investigated.Field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) data of the prepared samples were elucidated.The nano-rods were highly uniform and their mean length was reduced by using DEG and PEG as soft template agents.For all prepared samples,the rhabdophane-type hexagonal EuPO4·H2O was the dominated phase.The photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy measurements of EuPO4·H2O nanorods revealed that,under UV excitation,EuPO4·H2O nanorods exhibited strong luminescence with narrow bands corresponding to the in-tra-4f transitions of 5D0→7Fj(j=1,2,3,4) of Eu3+ ions.The peaks were found at 594 nm(5D0→7F1) ,619 nm(5D0→7F2) ,652 nm(5D0→7F3) ,and 697 nm(5D0→7F4) ,with the strongest emission at 594 nm. | Tran Thu Huong Tran Kim Anh Le Thi Vinh W.Strek Hoang Thi Khuyen Le Quoc Minh | 2011 | Journal of Rare Earths2011,29,12: | 2 |
