1Management of small hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhosis:Focus on portal hypertension显示文摘The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is rising worldwide being currently the fifth most common cancer and third cause of cancer-related mortality.Early detection of HCC through surveillance programs have enabled the identification of small nodules with higher frequency,and nowadays account for 10%-15% of patients diagnosed in the West and almost 30% in Japan.Patients with small HCC can be candidates for potential curative treatments:liver transplantation,surgical resection and percutaneous ablation,depending on the presence of portal hypertension and co-morbidities.This review will analyze recent advancements in the clinical management of these individuals,focusing on issues related to the role of portal hypertension,the debate between resection and ablative therapies and the future impact of molecular technologies.Virginia Hernandez-Gea Fanny Turon Annalisa Berzigotti Augusto Villanueva 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,8:20
2IL28B polymorphisms associated with therapy response in Chilean chronic hepatitis C patients显示文摘AIM:To analyze the association of three IL28B single nucleotide polymorphisms with response to therapy in Chilean patients infected with hepatitis C virus CV.METHODS:We studied two groups of patients with chronic CV infection genotype 1,under standard combined treatment with pegylated interferon plus ribavirin.One group consisted of 50 patients with sustained virological response,whereas the second group consisted of 49 null responders.In order to analyze the IL28B single nucleotide polymorphisms rs12979860,rs12980275 and rs8099917,samples were used for polymerase chain reaction amplification,and the genotyping was performed by restriction fragment lengthpolymorphism.RESULTS:The IL28B rs12979860 CC,rs12980275 AA and rs8099917 TT genotypes were much more frequently found in patients with sustained virological response compared to null responders 38%,44% and 50% vs 2%,8.2% and 8.2%,respectively.These differences were highly significant in all three cases(P < 0.0001.CONCLUSION:The three IL28B polymorphisms studied are strongly associated with sustained virological response to therapy in Chilean patients with chronic CV genotype 1.Mauricio Venegas Rodrigo A Villanueva Katherine González Javier Brahm 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,31:13
3Endoscopic submucosal dissection in dogs in a World Gastroenterology Organisation training center显示文摘AIM: To evaluate if canine models are appropriate for teaching endoscopy fellows the techniques of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). METHODS: ESD was performed in 10 canine models under general anesthesia, on artificial lesions of the esophagus or stomach marked with coagulation points. After ESD, each canine model was euthanized and surgical resection of the esophagus or stomach was carried out according to 'The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique, Russel and Burch'. The ESD specimens were fixed with needles on cork submerged in a formol solution with the esophagus or stomach, and delivered to the pathology department to be analyzed. RESULTS: ESD was completed without complications using the Hook-knife in five esophageal areas, with a procedural duration of 124 ± 19 min, a length of 27.4 ± 2.6 mm and a width of 21 ± 2.4 mm. ESD was also completed without complications using the IT-knife2 in five gastric areas, with a procedural duration of 92.6 ± 19 min, a length of 32 ± 2.5 mm and a width of 18 ± 3.7 mm. 4Rho/Rock signal transduction pathway is required for MSC tenogenic differentiation显示文摘Mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)-based treatments have shown promise for improving tendon healing and repair.MSCs have the potential to differentiate into multiple lineages in response to select chemical and physical stimuli, including into tenocytes. Cell elongation and cytoskeletal tension have been shown to be instrumental to the process of MSC differentiation. Previous studies have shown that inhibition of stress fiber formation leads MSCs to default toward an adipogenic lineage, which suggests that stress fibers are required for MSCs to sense the environmental factors that can induce differentiation into tenocytes. As the Rho/ROCK signal transduction pathway plays a critical role in both stress fiber formation and in cell sensation, we examined whether the activation of this pathway was required when inducing MSC tendon differentiation using rope-like silk scaffolds. To accomplish this, we employed a loss-of-function approach by knocking out ROCK,actin and myosin(two other components of the pathway) using the specific inhibitors Y-27632, Latrunculin A and blebbistatin, respectively. We demonstrated that independently disrupting the cytoskeleton and the Rho/ROCK pathway abolished the expression of tendon differentiation markers and led to a loss of spindle morphology. 5Manufacture and characterization of graphene membranes with suspended silicon proof masses for MEMS and NEMS applications显示文摘Graphene’s unparalleled strength,chemical stability,ultimate surface-to-volume ratio and excellent electronic properties make it an ideal candidate as a material for membranes in micro-and nanoelectromechanical systems(MEMS and NEMS).However,the integration of graphene into MEMS or NEMS devices and suspended structures such as proof masses on graphene membranes raises several technological challenges,including collapse and rupture of the graphene.We have developed a robust route for realizing membranes made of double-layer CVD graphene and suspending large silicon proof masses on membranes with high yields.We have demonstrated the manufacture of square graphene membranes with side lengths from 7µm to 110µm,and suspended proof masses consisting of solid silicon cubes that are from 5µm×5µm×16.4µm to 100µm×100µm×16.4µm in size.Our approach is compatible with wafer-scale MEMS and semiconductor manufacturing technologies,and the manufacturing yields of the graphene membranes with suspended proof masses were>90%,with>70%of the graphene membranes having>90%graphene area without visible defects.The measured resonance frequencies of the realized structures ranged from tens to hundreds of kHz,with quality factors ranging from 63 to 148.The graphene membranes with suspended proof masses were extremely robust,and were able to withstand indentation forces from an atomic force microscope(AFM)tip of up to~7000nN.The proposed approach for the reliable and large-scale manufacture of graphene membranes with suspended proof masses will enable the development and study of innovative NEMS devices with new functionalities and improved performances.Xuge Fan Anderson D.Smith Fredrik Forsberg Stefan Wagner Stephan Schroder Sayedeh Shirin Afyouni Akbari Andreas C.Fischer Luis Guillermo Villanueva Mikael Ostling Max C.Lemme Frank Niklaus 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:4

9Fuzzy C-means Rule Generation for Fuzzy Entry Temperature Prediction in a Hot Strip Mill显示文摘Variable estimation for finishing mill set-up in hot rolling is greatly affected by measurement uncertainties,variations in the incoming bar conditions and product changes.The fuzzy C-means algorithm was evaluated for rulebase generation for fuzzy and fuzzy grey-box temperature estimation.Experimental data were collected from a reallife mill and three different sets were randomly drawn.The first set was used for rule-generation,the second set was used for training those systems with learning capabilities,while the third one was used for validation.The performance of the developed systems was evaluated by five performance measures applied over the prediction error with the validation set and was compared with that of the empirical rule-base fuzzy systems and the physical model used in plant.The results show that the fuzzy C-means generated rule-bases improve temperature estimation;however,the best results are obtained when fuzzy C-means algorithm,grey-box modeling and learning functions are combined.Application of fuzzy C-means rule generation brings improvement on performance of up to 72%.Jose Angel BARRIOS Cesar VILLANUEVA Alberto CAVAZOS Rafael COLAS 2016Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2016,23,2:2

13Avoiding transduction-induced heating in suspended microchannel resonators using piezoelectricity显示文摘Calorimetry of single biological entities remains elusive.Suspended microchannel resonators(SMRs)offer excellent performance for real-time detection of various analytes and could hold the key to unlocking pico-calorimetry experiments.However,the typical readout techniques for SMRs are optical-based,and significant heat is dissipated in the sensor,altering the measurement and worsening the frequency noise.In this manuscript,we demonstrate for the first time full on-chip piezoelectric transduction of SMRs on which we focus a laser Doppler vibrometer to analyze its effect.We demonstrate that suddenly applying the laser to a water-filled SMR causes a resonance frequency shift,which we attribute to a local increase in temperature.When the procedure is repeated at increasing flow rates,the resonance frequency shift diminishes,indicating that convection plays an important role in cooling down the device and dissipating the heat induced by the laser.We also show that the frequency stability of the device is degraded by the laser source.In comparison to an optical readout scheme,a low-dissipative transduction method such as piezoelectricity shows greater potential to capture the thermal properties of single entities.Damien Maillard Annalisa De Pastina Amir Musa Abazari Luis Guillermo Villanueva 2021Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,2:2
