1Toxicity profile of ethanolic extract of Azadirachta indica stem bark in male Wistar rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the loxic implications of ethanolic stem bark extract of Azadirachta indica(A-indica)at 50,100,200 and 300 mg/kg body weight in Wistar rats.Methods:Fifty male rats of Wistar strains were randomly grouped into five(A-F.)of ten animals each.Animals in Group A(control)were orally administered 1 mL of distilled water on daily basis for 21 days while those in Groups B-E received same volume of the extract corresponding to 50,100,200 and 300mg/kg body weight.Results:The extract did not significantly(P>0.05)alter the levels of albumin,total protein,red blood cells and factors relating to it whereas the white blood cell,platelets,serum triacylglycerol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol decreased significantly(P<0.05).In contrast,the final body weights,absolute weights of the liver,kidney,lungs and heart as well as their organ-body weight ratios,serum globulins,total and conjugated bilirubin,serum cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and computed atherogenic index increased significantly.The spleen-body weight ratio,alkaline phosphatase,alanine and aspartate transaminases,sodium,potassium,calcium,feed and water intake were altered at specific doses.Conclusions:Overall,the alterations in the biochemical parameters of toxicity have consequential effects on the normal functioning of the organs of the animals.Therefore,the ethanolic extract of A.indica stem bark at the doses of 50,100,200 and 300 mg/kg body weight may not be completely safe as an oral remedy and should be taken with caution if absolutely necessary.Anofi Omotayo Tom Ashafal Latifat Olubukola Orekoya Musa Toyin Yakubu 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,10:4
2蜂蜜对炎症模型大鼠的抗炎作用及对一氧化氮生成的影响(英文)显示文摘目的:研究蜂蜜对大鼠急慢性炎症及一氧化氮生成的作用。方法:使用角叉菜胶法、棉球法及甲醛致炎症法定量测定蜂蜜的抗炎症功效。硝基左旋精氨酸甲酯皮下注射(100mg/kg)及左旋精氨酸腹腔内注射(300mg/kg)检验蜂蜜对于大鼠一氧化氮生成的作用。在每个实验中,大鼠均被分为5组,每组5只大鼠。空白对照组及阳性对照组大鼠分别给予蒸馏水及消炎痛(5mg/kg)口服,其余3组大鼠分别给予2、6及10g/kg蜂蜜口服。结果:在角叉菜胶所致大鼠炎症模型实验中,与对照组比较,蜂蜜显著降低了大鼠后爪的肿胀程度(P<0.05);在棉球致大鼠肉芽肿瘤模型实验中,与对照组比较,蜂蜜显著降低了肉芽肿瘤的重量(P<0.05);在甲醛所致大鼠炎症模型实验中,与对照组比较,蜂蜜显著缓解了大鼠关节炎的症状(P<0.05)。在检测一氧化氮生成的实验中,硝基左旋精氨酸甲酯显著抑制了大鼠后爪的肿胀,而左旋精氨酸拮抗了蜂蜜及硝基左旋精氨酸甲酯的抗炎作用。结论:本实验的研究结果证明了蜂蜜的抗炎症作用,这可能与其抑制一氧化氮的生成有关。据此,蜂蜜可能可以被应用于某些急慢性炎症的治疗当中。Bamidele Victor Owoyele Omosunkanmi Toyin Adenekan Ayodele Olufemi Soladoye 2011中西医结合学报2011,9,4:3

5Parquetina nigrescens leaves: chemical profile and influence on the physical and biochemical indices of sexual activity of male Wistar rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: The leaves of Parquetina nigrescens have been claimed in folk medicine to be useful for managing sexual dysfunction, but there is inadequate scientific evidence for this claim. This investigation was conducted to assess the effects of aqueous leaf extract of Parquetina nigrescens(AEPN) in rats induced with sexual dysfunction.METHODS: Male rats were allocated into various groups after being induced into sexual dysfunction with paroxetine hydrochloride. The groups were treated with distilled water, PowMaxM(reference drug),and the AEPN at 20, 40 and 80 mg/kg body weight(BW) respectively for 7 d. Frequencies of mount(MF), intromission(IF), ejaculation(EF), as well as latencies of mount(ML), intromission(IL) and post-ejaculatory interval(PEI) were progressively monitored with receptive female rats on days 1, 3 and 7.The precentage of mounted, intromitted, and ejaculated rats, intromission ratio(IR),copulatory efficiency(CE) and intercopulatory interval(ICI) were also computed. Standard methods were employed to determine the levels of serum luteinizing and follicle stimulating hormones(LH and FSH), testosterone,nitric oxide(NO) and the activity of phosphodiesterase V(PDE5).RESULTS: The plant contained alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, steroids, tannins,phlobatannins, cardenolides, phenolics, anthraquinones and triterpenes with alkaloids(2.32 mg/g)occurring in greatest quantity while flavonoids, anthraquinones and cardenolides(0.01 mg/g, each) were the least. All the 20 standard amino acids were detected in the plant leaf, with the lowest concentration being 0.30 mg/g for methionine and the highest being 2.12 mg/g for cysteine. Furthermore, P. nigrescens leaves contained Na, K, Fe, Mg, Zn, Ca, Cu, Mn, P, Pb, Cd, Ni, Cr, and Co, with Fe present in the highest and Co the lowest concentrations. Paroxetine significantly(P<0.05) reduced MF, IF, EF, percentage mounted, intromitted, ejaculated, IR, CE, serum testosterone, LH, FSH and NO, while ML, IL, PEI, IF and PDE5 were significantly(P<0.05) increased and/or prolonged. The AEPN significantly reversed these paroxetine-treatment-related alterations with most profound activity at the highest dose of 80 mg/kg BW, similar to that of the PowMaxM-treated animals.CONCLUSION: The AEPN restored both the physical and biochemical indices of male sexual activity/competence via changes in reproductive hormones, NO and PDE5 activity. 10Photonic Thermal Rectification with Composite Metamaterials显示文摘We demonstrate strong photonic thermal rectification effect between polar dielectrics plate and the composite metamaterials containing nonspherical polar dielectric nanoparticles with small volume fractions.Thermal rectification efficiency is found to be adjusted by the volume fractions and the nanoparticles’shape,and it can be as large as 80%when the polar dielectric nanoparticles are spherical in shape and are in the dilute limit with the volume fraction f=0.01.Physically,there exists strong electromagnetic coupling between the surface phonon polariton mode of polar dielectrics plate and the localized surface phonon polariton mode around polar dielectric nanoparticles.The results provide alternative new freedom for regulating energy flow and heat rectification efficiency in the near field,and may be helpful for design of multiparameter adjustable thermal diodes.Ogundare Rasheed Toyin 葛文宣 高雷 2021Chinese Physics Letters2021,38,1:1

13Perilipin 2 and lipid droplets provide reciprocal stabilization显示文摘The lipid droplet (LD)-associated protein adipose differentiation-related protein (ADRP or PLIN2) is required for the formation and stability of the LD organelle, whereas its biological roles are still obscure. Herein, we show that PLIN2 is the most abundant protein on the lipid droplets (LDs) of mouse myoblast cell line C2C12. Both the expression of PLIN2 and the accumulation of LDs were up-regulated in a time- and dose-dependent manner when the cells were treated with oleate (OA). The protein level of PLIN2 was positively correlated with the formation of LDs, suggesting that LDs stabilize PLIN2. Furthermore, knocking out PLIN2 in C2C12 cells led to enlarged LDs and higher triacylglycerol hydrolysis activity. The isolated PLIN2 null LDs became closely contact w让h mitochondria and other cellular organelles. Additionally mitochondrial activity was suppressed by OA in PLIN2 null cells. 18Catalytic upgrading of bio-oil from halophyte seeds into transportation fuels显示文摘Because of socioeconomic considerations,wide-scale production of biofuel necessitates the utilization of nonedible biomass feedstock that does not compete for land and fresh water resources.In this regard,Salicornia bigelovii(SB)is the most investigated halophyte species.The high oil content in SB seeds has sparked mounting research that aims to utilize SB as an industrial crop in the production of bio-oil,particularly in coastal areas where these plants thrive.However,the oil extracted from the pyrolysis of raw SB seeds is largely dominated by oxygenated fatty acids,most notably 9,12-octadecadienoic acid and 9,17-octadecadienal,typical to that of other crops.The pyrolysate bio-oil of the raw SB seeds exhibited a relative yield of oxygenated compounds that decreased from 57.05%at 200℃to 9.81%at 500℃,and the relative yield of nitrogenated compounds increased from 4.86%at 200℃to 21.97%at 500℃.To improve the quality of the produced bio-oil,herein we investigated the catalytic hydrodeoxygenation(HDO)of the fragments that were produced from the thermal degradation of SB seeds.A 5%Ni–CeO_(2)catalyst was prepared and characterized by a wide array of methods X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,temperature programmed reduction,scanning electron microscope,BrunauerEmmett-Teller analysis,and thermogravimetric analyzer.The catalytic run was executed between 200 and 500℃in a flow reactor.The deployed catalytic methodology displayed a profound HDO capacity.At 400℃,for instance,the gas chromatography mass spectroscopy(GC–MS)detected loads of paraffin and aromatic compounds exists at appreciable values of 48.0%and 28.5%,respectively.With a total relative yield of 43.2%(at 400℃),C8–C15 species(i.e.,jet fuel fractions)were the most abundant species in the upgraded SB bio-oil.The release of H_(2),CO,CO_(2),and CH_(4)was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using gas chromatography thermal conductivity detector and Fourier infrared spectroscopic analysis.When the Ni–CeO_(2)catalyst was utilized,a complete deoxygenated bio-oil was obtained from SB seeds using the surface-assisted HDO reaction.On the basis of the elemental analysis,the biochar’s hydrogen and oxygen contents were found to decrease significantly.Density functional theory computations showed mechanisms for reactions that underpinned the experimentally observed hydrodeoxygenation process.Outcomes presented herein shall be instrumental toward the effective utilization of halophyte in the production of commercial transportation fuels.Labeeb Ali Toyin Shittu Mohamed Shafi Kuttiyathil Ayesha Alam Muhammad Z.Iqbal Abbas Khaleel Kaushik Sivaramakrishnan Mohammednoor Altarawneh 2023Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2023,8,4:0

20A synergistic effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles and polyethylene butene improving the rheology of waxy crude oil显示文摘This research examined the use of 75 nm zinc oxide nanoparticles(nano ZnO)and polyethylene butene(PEB)to decrease the viscosity of Nigerian waxy crude oil.The rheology of the crude oil was assessed by measuring the viscosity and shear stress of samples containing PEB at 500,1000,2000,3000,4000 or 5000 ppm and nano ZnO at 1,2,3 or 4 wt% between 10 and 35℃ at shear rates from 1.7 to 1020 s^(-1).Rheological modeling indicated that a power law pseudoplastic model was the best fit for the experimental data,giving a regression coefficient of 0.99.The addition of these inhibitors induced Newtonian fluid behavior in the crude samples such that the shear stress-shear rate relationship plots were linear at all temperatures.The optimum concentrations of the inhibitors in this study were 2000 ppm PEB(providing a 33% viscosity reduction)and 1 wt% nano ZnO(providing a 26% viscosity reduction).A combination of these additives at these concentrations provided a synergistic effect and gave a greater viscosity reduction of 41%.This work demonstrates that a blend of ZnO nanoparticles and PEB can improve the flowability of waxy crude.Toyin Olabisi Odutola 2023Petroleum Research2023,8,2:0
