| 1 | Efficacy and safety of Xiangsha Liujunzi granules for functional dyspepsia: A multi-center randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical study显示文摘AIM To assess the efficacy and safety of a Chinese herbal medicine(CHM), Xiangsha Liujunzi granules, in the treatment of patients with functional dyspepsia(FD). METHODS We performed a randomized, double-blind, placebocontrolled trial with patients from three centers. Two hundred and sixteen subjects diagnosed with FD according to ROME Ⅲ criteria and confirmed by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and spleen-deficiency and Qi-stagnation syndrome were selected to receive Xiangsha Liujunzi granules or placebo for 4 wk in a 2:1 ratio by blocked randomization. The subjects also received follow-up after the 4-wk intervention. Herbal or placebo granules were dissolved in 300 m L of water. Participants in both groups were administered 130 m L(45 ℃) three times a day. Participants were evaluated prior to and following 4 wk of the intervention in terms of changes in the postprandial discomfort severity scale(PDSS) score, clinical global impression(CGI) scale score, hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS) score, traditional Chinese medicine symptoms score(SS), scores of various domains of the 36-item short form health survey(SF-36), gastric emptying(GE) and any observed adverse effects. RESULTS Compared with the placebo group, patients in the CHM group showed significant improvements in the scores of PDSS, HADS, SS, SF-36 and CGI scale(P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). | 5 | Weekly taxane-anthracycline combination regimen versus tri-weekly anthracycline-based regimen for the treatment of locally advanced breast cancer:a randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background:Extensive studies have confirmed the efficacy of taxanes in combination with anthracycline-based chemotherapy on breast cancer.However,few studies have assessed the efficacy of weekly taxane-anthracycline regimens on locally advanced breast cancer.This study was to compare the efficacy and safety of a weekly taxaneanthracycline regimen with those of tri-weekly anthracycline-based regimen in patients with locally advanced breast cancer.Methods:Patients with locally advanced breast cancer were randomized to receive 4-6 cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with tri-weekly 5-fluorouracil-epirubicin-cyclophosphamide(FEC) regimen or weekly paclitaxel-epirubicin(PE) regimen.The primary endpoint was the pathologic complete response(pCR) rate.Other endpoints included the clinical tumor response,breast-conserving surgery rate,and adverse events.Results:Between March 2010 and September 2013,293 patients were randomized to the FEC(n=151) and PE(n=142) arms.The overall clinical response rate was significantly higher in the PE arm than in the FEC arm(76.06%vs.59.95%,P=0.001).Consistently,the post-chemotherapy pathologic T and N stages were significantly lower in the PE arm than in the FEC arm(P<0.001).However,the pCR rate was similar in the two arms(10.61%vs.12.31%,P=0.665).Overall,36(27.27%) patients in the FEC arm and 6(35.28%) in the PE arm were qualified for breast-conserving surgery.Most adverse events were comparable in both arms,with more severe neutropenia in the PE arm than in the FEC arm(11.97%vs.5.96%,P=0.031).Conclusions:In patients with locally advanced breast cancer,weekly PE was not superior to FEC in terms of pCR.However,weekly PE has a higher response rate and superior down-staging effects.On this account,the PE regimen may be considered an alternative option for locally advanced breast cancer.Long-term follow-up data are needed to confirm the efficacy of this regimen on locally advanced breast cancer.Trial registration Chinese clinical trial registry,ChiCTR-TRC-10001043,September 21。 | Qiu-Wen Tan Ting Luo Hong Zheng Ting-Lun Tian Ping He Jie Chen He-Lin Zeng Qing Lv | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2017,36,6: | 5 |
| 6 | Microwave strengthens decomposition of mixed rare earth concentrate: Microwave absorption characteristics显示文摘The potential application of microwave heating technology for processing the mixed rare earth concentrate was systematically investigated by analyzing the microwave absorption characteristics in this study. The complex permittivity was measured through resonant cavity perturbation method. The variations of permittivity, the loss factor, loss tangent and the penetration depth with the increasing temperature were investigated numerically. The results indicate that the permittivity increases as the temperature increases, and temperature has a pivotal effect on it. The mixed concentrate is high loss material at the temperature range from 600 to 800℃ according to theoretical analyses of loss tangent and penetration depth. | 10 | Effect of nitrogen limitation on antioxidant qualities is highly associated with genotypes of lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.)显示文摘Antioxidants are highly beneficial to human health, and their accumulation in lettuce, one of the most popular leafy vegetables, depends on both genetic and environmental factors. Nitrogen(N) availability plays an essential role in regulating antioxidant accumulation, but the influence of genotype × N interactions on the antioxidant qualities of lettuce is poorly understood. Therefore, the present study investigated the variation of growth and antioxidant qualities of 20 lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.) genotypes(10 green lettuce genotypes and 10 red lettuce genotypes) under limited N(low N, LN) conditions and standard N(high N, HN) conditions. For all 20 genotypes, LN conditions reduced shoot(i.e., leaf) growth, but increased plant concentrations of vitamin C,glutathione, and phenolic compounds, with the exception of carotenoids, compared with HN conditions. Because of reduced biomass under LN conditions, not all lettuce genotypes exhibited increased antioxidant yields or total antioxidant capacity yield. The variation in antioxidant quality was primarily genetically determined. Generally, the green lettuce genotypes exhibited more pronounced increases in antioxidant yields and total antioxidant capacity yield than the red lettuce genotypes under LN conditions. These results suggest that even though LN conditions generally tend to improve the antioxidant qualities of lettuce, the extent of this effect is highly dependent on genotype. The current study sought to investigate changes in the ventral language pathways in patients with low-grade glioma located in regions likely to affect the dorsal language pathways. The results revealed no significant difference in fractional anisotropy values in the arcuate fasciculus between groups or between hemispheres. However, fractional anisotropy and lateralization index values in the left inferior longitudinal fasciculus and lateralization index values in the left inferior fronto-occpital fasciculus were higher in patients than in healthy subjects. These results indicate plasticity of language pathways in patients with low-grade glioma. The ventral language pathways may perform more functions in patients than in healthy subjects. | 15 | Decomposition process of bastnaesite concentrate in NaOH-CaO-H2O system显示文摘A novel process of calcification-leaching for bastnaesite concentrate(REFCO3) was proposed. The prior calcification was carried out in the system of NaOH-CaO-H2O and the lgC-pH pattern for Ce-F-Ca-C-H2O system was drawn. The thermodynamics result indicates that decomposition for bastnaesite requires certain alkaline condition, but excessive alkalinity also causes decomposition of CaF2. XRD and SEM-EDS analyses on the calcification-leaching process reveal that bastnaesite first decomposes into RE(OH)3 and CaF2. Then, by HCl leaching rare earths were extracted,while CaF2 was left in the leaching residue. In addition, effects of temperature, time, NaOH and CaO on the calcification were investigated. | 16 | MXR7 facilitates liver cancer metastasis via epithelial-mesenchymal transition显示文摘MXR7 is a cell-surface protein and highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). The aim of this study is to determine the expression profile of MXR7 in HCC and investigate the influence of MXR7 on invasion and metastasis of HCC cells. For this purpose, immunohistochemical assay was used to identify the differential expression of MXR7 in 94 HCC specimens. Expression of MXR7 in 4 pairs of HCC and portal vein tumor thrombus(PVTT) was also tested. The motility of HCC cells were characterized by transwell migration and matrigel invasion assays. In vivo metastasis potential was determined via tail vein injection assay.Moreover, compared with noninvasive HCC tumors or human HCC cell lines with low metastatic potential, invasive HCC samples and HCC cell lines with high metastatic potential exhibited higher MXR7 expression. Furthermore, forced expression of MXR7 in SMMC-7721 promoted cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro and accelerated tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. Conversely, knockdown of MXR7 expression in HuH7 cells inhibited proliferation and motility of cells. Mechanically,overexpression of MXR7 promoted epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT) progress, and MXR7 depletion repressed the EMT phenotype. | 17 | Integrated histopathological,lipidomic,and metabolomic profiles reveal mink is a useful animal model to mimic the pathogenicity of severe COVID-19 patients显示文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is transmitted on mink farms between minks and humans in many countries.However,the systemic pathological features of SARS-CoV-2-infected minks are mostly unknown.Here,we demonstrated that minks were largely permissive to SARS-CoV-2,characterized by severe and diffuse alveolar damage,and lasted at least 14 days post inoculation(dpi).We first reported that infected minks displayed multiple organ-system lesions accompanied by an increased inflammatory response and widespread viral distribution in the cardiovascular,hepatobiliary,urinary,endocrine,digestive,and immune systems.The viral protein partially co-localized with activated Mac-2+macrophages throughout the body.Moreover,we first found that the alterations in lipids and metabolites were correlated with the histological lesions in infected minks,especially at 6 dpi,and were similar to that of patients with severe and fatal COVID-19.Particularly,altered metabolic pathways,abnormal digestion,and absorption of vitamins,lipids,cholesterol,steroids,amino acids,and proteins,consistent with hepatic dysfunction,highlight metabolic and immune dysregulation.Enriched kynurenine in infected minks contributed to significant activation of the kynurenine pathway and was related to macrophage activation.Melatonin,which has significant anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating effects,was significantly downregulated at 6 dpi and displayed potential as a targeted medicine.Our data first illustrate systematic analyses of infected minks to recapitulate those observations in severe and fetal COVID-19 patients,delineating a useful animal model to mimic SARS-CoV-2-induced systematic and severe pathophysiological features and provide a reliable tool for the development of effective and targeted treatment strategies,vaccine research,and potential biomarkers. | Zhiqi Song Linlin Bao Wei Deng Jiangning Liu Erjun Ren Qi Lv Mingya Liu Feifei Qi Ting Chen Ran Deng Fengdi Li Yunpeng Liu Qiang Wei Hong Gao Pin Yu Yunlin Han Wenjie Zhao Junjun Zheng Xujian Liang Fuhe Yang Chuan Qin | 2022 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,2: | 2 |
| 18 | Intraoperative diffusion tensor imaging predicts the recovery of motor dysfunction after insular lesions显示文摘Insular lesions remain surgically challenging because of the need to balance aggressive resection and functional protection. Motor function deficits due to corticospinal tract injury are a common complication of surgery for lesions adjacent to the internal capsule and it is therefore essential to evaluate the corticospinal tract adjacent to the lesion. We used diffusion tensor imaging to evaluate the corticospinal tract in 89 patients with insular lobe lesions who underwent surgery in Chinese PLA General Hospital from February 2009 to May 2011. Postoperative motor function evaluation revealed that 57 patients had no changes in motor function, and 32 patients suffered motor dysfunction or aggravated motor dysfunction. Of the affected patients, 20 recovered motor function during the 6-12-month follow-up, and an additional 12 patients did not recover over more than 12 months of follow-up. Following reconstruction of the corticospinal tract, fractional anisotropy comparison demonstrated that preoperative, intraoperative and follow-up normalized fractional anisotropy in the stable group was higher than in the transient deficits group or the long-term deficits group. Compared with the transient deficits group, intraoperative normalized fractional anisotropy significantly decreased in the long-term deficits group.
