| 2 | Luminescent metal nanoclusters for biomedical applications显示文摘Luminescent metal nanoclusters (NCs) have recently emerged as a novel class of luminescent nanomaterials and hold significant potential in biomedicine owing to their ultrasmall (<2nm) size,excellent photostability,and good biocompatibility.The recent rapid advances in the synthesis and functionalization of luminescent metal NCs have enabled scientists to develop colorful nanomaterials and nanodevices for a wide range of biomedical applications.In this review,we summarize the characteristics and advantages of luminescence from metal NCs,and highlight their applications in biomedicine.We focus on the research in biomedical detection,bio-imaging,drug delivery,and therapy,especially for the advances in the last five years.Luminescent metal NCs display a series of unique superiorities in biomedical applications,and the recent achievements have brought a lot of benefits to the diagnosis and treatment of clinical diseases,especially for tumors and cancers.Finally,we put forward the main challenges that currently still hinder the basic science studies and the practical development of luminescent metal NCs in biomedical applications.Overall,we expect that luminescent metal NCs will play a much more important role in future biomedicine and clinical applications. | Yu Su Tiantian Xue Yuxin Liu Jinxia Qi Rongchao Jin Zhenkun Lin | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,6: | 6 |
| 3 | A double crosslinking MXene/cellulose nanofiber layered film for improving mechanical properties and stable electromagnetic interference shielding performance显示文摘With the discovery of the two-dimensional(2D) MXene, it shows a great application potential in the field of electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding, but the mechanical brittleness and easy oxidation of MXene limit its wide application. For this reason, a double crosslinking strategy is provided to solve the above problems in a nacre-like “brick-mortar” layered MXene/cellulose nanofiber(MXene/CNF) film.Typically, the film was firstly suffered by dopamine modification, then was further reinforced by secondary Ca^(2+)bridging, so as to obtain excellent mechanical properties and antioxidative EMI shielding performance. Comparing with the single crosslinking, the double crosslinking strategy reveals a higher efficiency in improving the mechanical property. The mechanical strength and toughness of the double crosslinking MXene/CNF film can increase to 142.2 MPa and 9.48 MJ/m^(3), respectively. More importantly, while achieving good mechanical properties, the MXene composite film still holds a very stable EMI shielding performance of more than 44.6 dB when suffering from the oxidation treatment of hightemperature annealing, showing excellent anti-oxidation ability and environment tolerance. | 4 | Accurate assessment of antibiotic susceptibility and screening resistant strains of a bacterial population by linear gradient plate显示文摘The dynamics of a bacterial population exposed to theminimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of an antibiotic is an important issue in pharmacological research.Therefore,a novel antibiotic susceptibility test is urgently needed that can both precisely determine the MIC and accurately select antibiotic-resistant strains from clinical bacterial populations.For this purpose,we developed a method based on Fick's laws of diffusion using agar plates containing a linear gradient of antibiotic.The gradient plate contained two layers.The bottom layer consisted of 15 mL agar containing the appropriate concentration of enrofloxacin and allowed to harden in the form of a wedge with the plate slanted such that the entire bottom was just covered.The upper layer consisted of 15 mL plain nutrient agar added with the plate held in the horizontal position.After allowing vertical diffusion of the drug from the bottom agar layer for 12 h,the enrofloxacin concentration was diluted in proportion to the ratio of the agar layer thicknesses.The uniform linear concentration gradient was verified by measuring the enrofloxacin concentration on the agar surface.When heavy bacterial suspensions were spread on the agar surface and incubated for more than 12 h,only resistant cells were able to form colonies beyond the boundary of confluent growth of susceptible cells.In this way,the true MIC of enrofloxacin was determined.The MICs obtained using this linear gradient plate were consistent with those obtained using conventional antibiotic susceptibility tests.Discrete colonies were then spread onto a gradient plate with higher antibiotic concentrations;the boundary line increased significantly,and gene mutations conferring resistance were identified.This new method enables the rapid identification of resistant strains in the bacterial population.Use of the linear gradient plate can easily identify the precise MIC and reveal the dynamic differentiation of bacteria near the MIC.This method allows the study of genetic and physiological characteristics of individual strains,and may be useful for early warning of antibiotic resistance that may occur after use of certain antimicrobial agents,and guide clinical treatment. | LIU YuQing LI JingRan DU JiaFa HU Ming BAI Hua QI Jing GAO Chao WEI TianTian SU Hong JIN JianLing GAO PeiJi | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,10: | 4 |
| 5 | Influences of Sense of Place on Farming Households' Relocation Willingness in Areas Threatened by Geological Disasters:Evidence from China显示文摘Scholars from environmental psychology,geography, disaster science, and sociology have recently focused attention on evacuation and relocation behaviors and influencing factors in hazard-threatened areas. However, existing studies are mainly focused on developed countries and the influence of individual characteristics,household characteristics, and the perception of risk of urban households on evacuation and relocation behaviors.Few studies examine developing countries and the influence of farmers' sense of place in geological hazardthreatened areas. Using statistics of farming households in an area threatened by landslides, this is a pilot study to explore the relationship of sense of place to the relocation willingness of farming households while controlling for other variables. The results show that:(1) Households with higher scores of place identity and place dependence are less willing to relocate, whereas place attachment has no significant relationship to household relocation willingness;(2) Risk perception dimensions, including probability,threat, and controllability have a significant relationship to household relocation willingness, while worry and fear of the unknown have no significant relationship;(3) Household characteristics, including income, whether a household has experienced economic loss from landslides, and social support are significantly correlated with household relocation willingness, while gender, age, experience, distance to hazard sites, size of household, children, older people, and housing material are not. The results for information and education are not robust. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible mechanism underlying their neuroprotective effects on glutamate-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells and their digestive stability. Results showed that all these peptides could attenuate the reduction of cell viability caused by glutamate in PC12 cells, especially WSREEQEREE and ADIYTEEAGR. The addition of Arg residue in WSREEQEREE and ADIYTEEAGR might be the potential reason for their stronger protective effects. Additionally, these two peptides possibly protected PC12 cells against glutamate-induced apoptosis via activating intracellular antioxidant defence(superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)) through Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1(Keap1) inhibition, inhibiting ROS production, Ca;influx and mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP) collapse as well as regulating the expression of apoptosis-related proteins(Bax and Bcl-2). We developed a series of novel amphiphilic hyperbranched polymeric photoinitiators(hPEA-TXs, and hPEABPs) by introducing thioxanthone(TX) or benzophenone(BP) moieties into the periphery of the hyperbranched poly(ether amine)(hPEA) comprised of the hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) short chain and coinitiator amine moieties in the backbone. Compared with their water-soluble low-molecular weight analogues, the resulting hyperbranched polymeric photoinitiators hPEA101-TX, hPEA211-TX,hPEA101-BP and hPEA211-BP could be dissolved very well not only in many organic systems including acrylate monomers, but also in water with high solubility of 10 wt%. The photopolymerization kinetics of water-soluble monomer acrylamide(AM) and three hydrophobic multifunctional acrylate monomers initiated by these hyperbranched photoinitiators were investigated in detail by photo-differential scanning calorimetric(photo-DSC). Both hPEA-TXs and hPEA-BPs can initiate photopolymerization of AM as efficiently as their low-molecular weight analogues MGA-TX and MGA-BP, respectively. The final double bond conversion(DBC) of oil-soluble monomer hexanediol diacrylate(HDDA) photoinitiated by these hyperbranched photoinitiators can reach as high as 99%. | 20 | Molecular characterization and expression of HSP70, HSF and HSBP genes in Octopus vulgaris during thermal stress显示文摘Temperature is an important environmental factor that affects the growth and survival of Octopus vulgaris, the common octopus. To understand the protective mechanism that O. vulgaris exhibits under heat stress, we used rapid amplification of c DNA ends(RACE) to obtain full-length sequences of three heat stress response related genes:(1) the heat shock protein 70(OvHSP70),(2) the heat shock transcription factor(OvHSF), and(3) the heat shock factor-binding protein(OvHSBP) of O. vulgaris. The OvHSP70, OvHSF, and OvHSBP proteins contained2 222 bp, 2 264 bp, 841 bp that encoded for 635, 458 and 90 amino acids, respectively. The results of multiple sequence alignment showed that the amino acid sequences of OvHSP70 were highly conserved with respect to other species. Similarly, the DNA binding domain, the trimerization domain of OvHSF, and the coiled coil region of OvHSBP also had highly conserved regions. The real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR) results indicated that OvHSP70 was temperature-dependent and time-dependent, showing a positive response to heat stress. On exposure to 28°C and to 30°C, the m RNA expression levels of OvHSF and OvHSBP were higher than those in the control group at 24°C. The m RNA expression of OvHSBP significantly increased with heat treatment at 26°C, while the m RNA expression of OvHSF decreased. The experimental results indicated that the expression of OvHSP70,OvHSF and OvHSBP were all sensitive to heat stress, which suggests that these three genes may play an important role for O. vulgaris in responding to environmental stress.
