| 2 | Edible Bird's Nest Attenuates Menopause-Related Bone Degeneration in Rats via Increasing Bone Estrogen-Receptor Expression显示文摘Objective:To investigate the mechanistic basis for the attenuation of bone degeneration by edible bird's nest(EBN)in ovariectomized rats.Methods:Forty-two female Sprage-Dawley rats were randomized into 7 groups(6 in each group).The ovariectomized(OVX)and OVX+6%,3%,and 1.5%EBN and OVX+estrogen groups were given standard rat chow alone,standard rat chow+6%,3%,and 1.5%EBN,or standard rat chow+estrogen therapy(0.2mg/kg per day),respectively.The sham-operation group was surgically opened without removing the ovaries.The control group did not have any surgical intervention.After 12 weeks of intervention,blood samples were taken for serum estrogen,osteocalcin,and osteoprotegerin,as well as the measurement of magnesium,calcium abd zinc concentrations.While femurs were removed from the surrounding muscles to measure bone mass density using the X-ray edge detection technique,then collected for histology and estrogen receptor(ER)immunohistochemistry.Results:Ovariectomy altered serum estrogen levels resulting in increased food intake and weight gain,while estrogen and EBN supplementation attenuated these changes.Ovariectomy also reduced bone ER expression and density,and the production of osteopcalcin and osteorotegerin,which are important pro-osteoplastic hormones that promote bone mineraliztion and density.Conversely,estrogen and EBN increased serum estrogen levels leading to increased bone ER expression,pro-osteoplastic hormone production and bone density(all P<0.05).Conclusion:EBN could be used as a safe alternative to hormone replacement therapys for managing menopausal complications like bone degeneration. | HOU Zhi-ping TANG Shi-ying Jl Hai-ru HE Pei-yuan LI Yu-hong DONG Xian-ling DU Meng-nan Ismail Maznah HE Wen-jing | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,27,4: | 6 |
| 3 | Tojapride Reverses Esophageal Epithelial Inflammatory Responses on Reflux Esophagitis Model Rats显示文摘Objective To investigate the mechanism of Tojapride,a Chinese herbal formula extract,on strengthening the barrier function of esophageal epithelium in rats with reflux esophagitis(RE).Methods Ten out of 85 SD rats were randomly selected as the sham group(n10),and 75 rats were developed a reflux esophagitis model(RE)by the esophageal and duodenal side-to-side anastomosis.Fifty successful modeling rats were divided into different medicated groups through a random number table including the model,low-,medium-,and high-dose of Tojapride as well as omeprazole groups(n10).Three doses of Tojapride[5.73,11.46,22.92 g/(kg•d)]and omeprazole[4.17 mg/(kg•d)]were administrated intragastrically twice daily for 3 weeks.And the rats in the sham and model groups were administered 10 mL/kg distilled water.Gastric fluid was collected and the supernatant was kept to measure for volume,pH value and acidity.Esophageal tissues were isolated to monitor the morphological changes through hematoxylin-eosin(HE)staining,and esophageal epithelial ultrastructure was observed by transmission electron microscopy.The expressions of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells p65(NF-KBp65),κB kinase beta(IKKß),occludin,and zonula occludens-1(ZO-1)in the esophageal tissues were measured by immunohistochemistry and Western blot,respectively.Results The gastric pH value in the model group was significantly lower than the sham group(P<0.05).Compared with the model group,gastric pH value in the omeprazole and medium-dose of Tojapride groups were significantly higher(P<0.05).A large area of ulceration was found on the esophageal mucosa from the model rats,while varying degrees of congestion and partially visible erosion was observed in the remaining groups.Remarkable increase in cell gap width and decrease in desmosome count was seen in RE rats and the effect was reversed by Tojapride treatment.Compared with the sham group,the IKKßlevels were significantly higher in the model group(P<0.05).However,the IKKßlevels were down-regulated after treatment by all doses of Tojapride(P<0.01 or P<0.05).The occluding and ZO-1 levels decreased in the model group compared with the sham group(Ps0.01 or Ps0.05),while both indices were significantly up-regulated in the Tojapride-treated groups(P<0.01 or P<0.05).Conclusions Tojapride could improve the pathological conditions of esophageal epithelium in RE rats.The underlying mechanisms may involve in down-regulating the IKKßexpression and elevating ZO-1 and occludin expression,thereby alleviating the inflammation of the esophagus and strengthening the barrier function of the esophageal epithelium. | YIN Xiao-lan ZHONG Linda LIN Cheng-yuan SHI Xiao-shuang ZHANG Jiao CHEN Zheng-yi CHE Hui MA Xiang-xue TIAN Ya-xin DUAN Yuan-zhi LU Lin Jl Hai-jie ZHAO Ying-pan TANG Xu-dong WANG Feng-yun | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,27,8: | 4 |
| 4 | Characteristics of air quality in Tianjin during the Spring Festival period of 2015显示文摘To better understand the characteristics of air quality and the relationship between the chemical composition evolution and source variation,an intensive atmospheric campaign was conducted in Tianjin,a megacity of the North China Plain,from 10 February to 6 March 2015.There were 20 days exceeding the threshold value of secondary Chinese Ambient Air Quality Standards for PM2.5(75 μg m-3,daily average over 24 h)during the study period.Five air pollution episodes were selected for investigation.During the pre-holiday pollution episode,NH^+_4,NO^-_3,and SO^(2-)_4 were more abundant,indicating that air pollution was caused by motor vehicle exhaust emissions and coal consumption under unfavorable meteorological conditions.During Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve,widespread use of fireworks resulted in extremely high aerosol concentrations.Firework displays caused increases in K+ and also enrichment of SO^(2-)_4 relative to NO^-_3.The holiday pollution episode was caused by regional transport,characterized by abundant SO^(2-)_4 and NH^+_4.In addition,the aging processes of the particles from fireworks discharge played an important role in the formation of NO-3and SO^(2-)_4.The Lantern Festival episode was characterized by a transition from the enrichment of K+ to secondary inorganic ions(NO^-_3,SO^(2-)_4,and NH^+_4).The results of this study are useful for a detailed understanding of the variation in atmospheric compositions and sources caused by anthropogenic activity,and highlight the importance of controlling intensive fireworks discharge. | TANG Miao Jl Dong-Sheng GAO Wen-Kang YU Zhong-Wang CHEN Kui CAO Wan | 2016 | Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters2016,9,1: | 4 |
