| 1 | Atmospheric nitrous oxide observations above the oceanic surface during CHINARE-18显示文摘The gas samples in the marine boundary layer were collected from the track for research ship Xuelong during the 18th Chinese Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE-18) and nitrous oxide measurements were made by HP5890ECD-GC in the laboratory. The results represent the shipboard N2O data set obtained within the lower troposphere with the average concentration of (313.5±2.6)nL*L-1 from 31°N to 69°S. The results showed a latitudinally weighted, mean interhemispheric difference of 0.61 nL*L-1. The latitudinal distribution of atmospheric N2O concentration was analyzed from northern midlatitudes to Southern Ocean around the Antarctic continent and it was showed that N2O concentration in the current confluences was higher than that in other oceanic areas. This indicated that strong N2O emissions occurred there. The longitudinal distribution of N2O concentrations in the Southern Ocean also showed similar situation. | 2 | Stimulation of gaseous phosphine production from Antarctic seabird guanos and ornithogenic soils显示文摘Matrix-bound phosphine(MBP) is a general term used to indicate non-gaseous reduced phosphorus compounds that are transformed into phosphine gas upon reaction with bases or acids.Antarctic seabird guanos and ornithogenic soils were used as materials to compare the different digestion methods for transforming matrix-bound phosphine into phosphine gas.The results demonstrated that more phosphine gas in most of Antarctic environmental materials was formed of matrix-bound phosphine by caustic digestion than by acidic digestion.The comparative study on different digestion methods also revealed that the fraction of MBP converted to gaseous phosphine during the digestion depended on the temperature.The optimal digestion temperature was close to 70℃ and the optimal digestion time was about 20 min.Acidic conditions were more favorable for the release of matrix-bound phosphine compared to the neutral conditions.A proper water dilution can increase the production and emission of phosphine from the Antarctic penguin guanos. | ZHU Renbin LIU Yashu SUN Jianjun SUN Liguang GENG Jinju | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,2: | 3 |
| 3 | Ecological responses of typical Antarctic marine organisms to climate change and anthropogenic impacts显示文摘To improve our understanding and ability to predict biological responses to global climate change, it is important to be able to distinguish the influences of natural forcing from anthropogenic impacts. In the ice-free areas of Antarctica, lake and terrestrial sediments that contain penguin guanos, seal excrement and other biological remains provide natural archives of ecological, geological and climatic information that range from hundreds to thousands of years old. Our review focuses on the paleoecology of typical Antarctic marine organisms(penguins, seals and Antarctic krill) and their responses to climate change and human activities over centennial and millennial timescales. | 4 | Alkaline phosphatase activity in ornithogenic soils in polar tundra显示文摘Phosphatase plays an important role in the microbial liberation of phosphorus in soil systems.In this study,alkaline phosphatase activity (APA) was investigated from tundra ornithogenic soil profiles in Antarctica and Arctic.The organic carbon (TOC),total nitrogen (TN),and phosphorus fractions and pH were also analyzed in these soils.The correlation between APA and soil chemical properties is discussed.In almost all the soil profiles,APA showed the same variation patterns.The maximum APA appeared in the surface layers,and decreased with soil depth.The APA ranged from 1.00 ppm to 1 403.5 ppm with an average of approximately 408.3 ppm.The APA showed a significant positive correlation with TOC (r =0.70,p <0.001),TN (r =0.43,p =0.002),total phosphorus (r =0.39,p <0.05)and inorganic phosphorus (r =0.40,p =0.037),indicating that they were predominant factors affecting APA in the polar tundra soils.In addition,APA showed a significant negative correlation with Cu and Zn concentrations in the soils,indicating that Cu and Zn may inhibit APA.Our results showed that APA could be used as an important indicator for soil fertility in polar tundra ecosystems. | MA DaWei ZHU RenBin DING Wei SUN JianJun LIU YaShu SUN LiGuang | 2011 | Advances in Polar Science2011,22,2: | 2 |
| 5 | The first determination of atmospheric phosphine in Antarctica显示文摘It is generally thought that phosphine (PH3) concentrations exist at the low ng/m3 level during the night and at the pg/m3 level during daylight in the remote atmosphere of the lower troposphere. The first de- termination of gaseous PH3 on the Antarctic Millor Peninsula is reported in this paper. No PH3 was de- tected in the air samples around 10:00 when it was sunny. However, PH3 was found in all the 10:00 air samples when it was cloudy or light snow with the average of 75.3±28.8 ng/m3 (n=5). It was also found in nearly all the samples around 22:00 with the average of 87.2±70.9 ng/m3 (n=11). Atmospheric PH3 concentrations around 22:00 were generally higher than those around 10:00 in January and they were almost the same in February. In addition, PH3 concentrations around 22:00 showed a downtrend with the decreasing air temperature, suggesting that light intensity and air temperature had an important effect on atmospheric PH3 concentration. It is very surprising to have found that high concentrations of PH3 exist in the Antarctic atmosphere under the influence of strong UV-radiation and light intensity. The tentative analyses show that dry, cold and very clean atmosphere may be very suitable for the PH3 sur- vival and cause the concentration to increase and accumulate in the local atmosphere. New ap- proaches for the PH3 formation and the process of atmospheric chemistry may exist under such an extreme environment. | 7 | A New Complete Hierarchical Classification Approach to Kinematic Chains显示文摘Based on structural properties and genetic isomorphism-identification approach, this paper proposes a classification scheme of kinematic structures to categorize the kinematic chains into different families, thus facilitating the optimum selection of a basic structure of a mechanism. The kinematic chain is represented by a graph at first. The genetic adaptive model for the graph isomorphism identification is developed, which includes the construction of an effective method to decrease the problem’s dimensions and applying an evolutionary searching strategy. From the various invariants of the genetic adaptive model, which charaterize the specific features of a kinematic chain or a family of kinematic chains, we obtain a six-step hierarchical classification scheme. This scheme classifies together the kinematic chains having similar sub-sets of structures forming isomorphic sub-chains. An example illustrates the theory, procedure and utitlity of the hierarchical classification. | 17 | Effects of coal-fired power plants on soil microbial diversity and community structures显示文摘Long-term deposition of atmospheric pollutants emitted from coal combustion and their effects on the eco-environment have been extensively studied around coal-fired power plants.However,the effects of coal-fired power plants on soil microbial communities have received little attention through atmospheric pollutant deposition and coal-stacking.Here,we collected the samples of power plant soils(PS),coal-stacking soils(CSS)and agricultural soils(AS)around three coal-fired power plants and background control soils(BG)in Huainan,a typical mineral resource-based city in East China,and investigated the microbial diversity and community structures through a high-throughput sequencing technique.Coal-stacking significantly increased(p<0.05)the contents of total carbon,total nitrogen,total sulfur and Mo in the soils,whereas the deposition of atmospheric pollutants enhanced the levels of V,Cu,Zn and Pb.Proteobacteria,Actinobacteria,Thaumarchaeota,Thermoplasmata,Ascomycota and Basidiomycota were the dominant taxa in all soils.The bacterial community showed significant differences(p<0.05)among PS,CSS,AS and BG,whereas archaeal and fungal communities showed significant differences(p<0.01)according to soil samples around three coal-fired power plants.The predominant environmental variables affecting soil bacterial,archaeal and fungal communities were Mo-TN-TS,Cu-V-Mo,and organic matter(OM)-Mo,respectively.Certain soil microbial genera were closely related to multiple key factors associated with stacking coal and heavy metal deposition from power plants.This study provided useful insight into better understanding of the relationships between soil microbial communities and long-term disturbances from coal-fired power plants. | Bowen Sun Renbin Zhu Yu Shi Wanying Zhang Zeming Zhou Dawei Ma Runfang Wang Haitao Dai Chenshuai Che | 2024 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,3: | 0 |

| 20 | Nitrogen transformation processes in soil along a High Arctic tundra transect显示文摘Soil nitrogen(N)transformation processes in the High Arctic tundra are poorly understood even though nitrogen is one of the main limiting nutrients.We analyzed soil samples collected along a High Arctic tundra transect to investigate spatial variability in key nitrogen transformation processes,functional gene abundances,ammonia-oxidizing archaea(AOA)community structures,and key nitrogen transformation regulators.The potential denitrification rates were higher than the nitrification rates in the soil samples,although nitrification may still regulate N2O emissions from tundra soil.The nutrient(total carbon,total organic carbon,total nitrogen,and NH_(4)^(+)-N)contents were important determinants of spatial variability in the potential denitrification rates of soil along the tundra transect.The total sulfurcontent was the main variable controlling potential nitrification processes,probably in association with sulfate-reducing bacteria.The nitrate content was the main variable affecting potential dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium.AOA and ammonia-oxidizing bacteria amoA,nirS,and anammox 16S rRNA genes were found in all of the soil samples.AOA play more important roles than ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in soilnitrification.Anammox bacteria may utilize NO_(2)^(-)produced through nitrification.Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the AOA amoA sequences could be grouped into eight unique operational taxonomic units(OTUs)with a 97%sequence similarity and were affiliated with three group 1.1b Nitrososphaeraclusters.The results indicated that heterogeneous environmental factors(e.g.,the carbon and nitrogen contents of soil)along the High Arctic tundra transect strongly affected the nitrogen transformation rate and relevant functional gene abundances in soil. | GUO Mengjie WANG Qing ZHANG Wanying JIAO Yi SUN Bowen HOU Lijun ZHU Renbin | 2023 | Advances in Polar Science2023,34,2: | 0 |
