| 1 | High-risk esophageal varices in patients treated with locoregional therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma:Assessment with liver computed tomography显示文摘AIM:To assess the diagnostic performance of followup liver computed tomography(CT) for the detection of high-risk esophageal varices in patients treated with locoregional therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:We prospectively enrolled 100 patients with cirrhosis who underwent transcatheter arterial chemoembolization,radiofrequency ablation or both procedures for HCCs.All patients underwent upper endoscopy and subsequently liver CT.Three radiologists independently evaluated the presence of high-risk esophageal varices with transverse images alone and with three orthogonal multiplanar reformation(MPR) images,respectively.With endoscopic grading as the reference standard,diagnostic performance was assessed by using receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis.RESULTS:The diagnostic performances(areas under the ROC curve) of three observers with transverse images alone were 0.947 ± 0.031,0.969 ± 0.024,and 0.916 ± 0.038,respectively.The mean sensitivity,specificity,positive predicative value(PPV),and negative predicative value(NPV) with transverse images alone were 90.1%,86.39%,70.9%,and 95.9%,respectively.The diagnostic performances,mean sensitivity,specificity,PPV,and NPV with three orthogonal MPR images(0.965 ± 0.025,0.959 ± 0.027,0.938 ± 0.033,91.4%,89.5%,76.3%,and 96.6%,respectively) were not superior to corresponding values with transverse images alone(P > 0.05),except for the mean specificity(P = 0.039).CONCLUSION:Our results showed excellent diagnostic performance,sensitivity and NPV to detect high-risk esophageal varices on follow-up liver CT after locoregional therapy for HCC. | Hyojin Kim Dongil Choi Joon Hyeok Lee Soon Jin Lee Hangi Jo Geum-Youn Gwak Kwang Cheol Koh Moon Seok Choi Seonwoo Kim | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,35: | 4 |
| 2 | Development of novel gene carrier using modified nano hydroxyapatite derived from equine bone for osteogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells显示文摘Hydroxyapatite(HA)is a representative substance that induces bone regeneration.Our research team extracted nanohydroxyapatite(EH)from natural resources,especially equine bones,and developed it as a molecular biological tool.Polyethylenimine(PEI)was used to coat the EH to develop a gene carrier.To verify that PEI is well coated in the EH,we first observed the morphology and dispersity of PEI-coated EH(pEH)by electron microscopy.The pEH particles were well distributed,while only the EH particles were not distributed and aggregated.Then,the existence of nitrogen elements of PEI on the surface of the pEH was confirmed by EDS,calcium concentration measurement and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).Additionally,the pEH was confirmed to have a more positive charge than the 25 kD PEI by comparing the zeta potentials.As a result of pGL3 transfection,pEH was better able to transport genes to cells than 25 kD PEI.After verification as a gene carrier for pEH,we induced osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs by loading the BMP-2 gene in pEH(BMP-2/pEH)and delivering it to the cells.As a result,it was confirmed that osteogenic differentiation was promoted by showing that the expression of osteopontin(OPN),osteocalcin(OCN),and runt-related transcription factor 2(RUNX2)was significantly increased in the group treated with BMP-2/pEH.In conclusion,we have not only developed a novel nonviral gene carrier that is better performing and less toxic than 25 kD PEI by modifying natural HA(the agricultural byproduct)but also proved that bone differentiation can be effectively promoted by delivering BMP-2 with pEH to stem cells. | Myung Chul Lee Hoon Seonwoo Kyoung Je Jang Shambhavi Pandey Jaewoon Lim Sangbae Park Jae Eun Kim Yun-Hoon Choung Pankaj Garg Jong Hoon Chung | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,9: | 2 |

| 6 | Probing the upper band gap of atomic rhenium disulfide layers显示文摘Here,we investigate the ultrafast carrier dynamics and electronic states of exfoliated ReS2 films using time-resolved second harmonic generation(TSHG)microscopy and density functional theory(DFT)calculations.The second harmonic generation(SHG)of layers with various thicknesses is probed using a 1.19-eV beam.Up to~13 nm,a gradual increment is observed,followed by a decrease caused by bulk interferometric light absorption.The addition of a pump pulse tuned to the exciton band gap(1.57 eV)creates a decay-to-rise TSHG profile as a function of the probe delay.The power and thickness dependencies indicate that the electron–hole recombination is mediated by defects and surfaces.The two photon absorptions of 2.38 eV in the excited state that are induced by pumping from 1.57 to 1.72 eV are restricted because these transitions highly correlate with the forbidden d–d intrasubshell orbital transitions.However,the combined usage of a frequency-doubled pump(2.38 eV)with wavelength-variant SHG probes(2.60–2.82 eV)allows us to vividly monitor the variations in TSHG profiles from decay-to-rise to rise-to-decay,which imply the existence of an additional electron absorption state(s-orbital)at an approximate distance of 5.05 eV from the highest occupied molecular orbital states.This observation was critically examined by considering the allowance of each electronic transition and a small upper band gap(~0.5 eV)using modified DFT calculations. | Krishna P.Dhakal Hyunmin Kim Seonwoo Lee Youngjae Kim JaeDong Lee Jong-Hyun Ahn | 2018 | Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1: | 1 |
