| 1 | Characterization of dissolved organic matter fractions from Lake Hongfeng, Southwestern China Plateau显示文摘With XAD-series and ion exchange resins, dissolved organic matter (DOM) from Lake Hongfeng in Southwestern China Plateau was isolated into 6 fractions, i.e., humic acid (HA), fulvic acid (FA), hydrophobic neutrals (HON), hydrophilic acids (HIA), hydrophilic bases (HIB) and hydrophilic neutrals (HIN). Those fractions were characterized by high performance size exclusion chromatography, fluorescence spectroscopy and UV absorbance. Among the 6 fractions, FA was predominant and accounted for 51% of the total DOM. The weight-average (Mw) and number-averaged (Mn) molecular weight of these fractions ranged from 1688 to 2355 Da and from 1338 to 1928 Da, respectively. A strong correlation was observed between specific UV absorbance at 280 nm, E2/E3 (absorbance at 250 nm to 365 nm), and the molecular weight for DOM fractions. UV-Vis fulvic-like fluorescence peaks were found in all fractions. Protein-like fluorescence peaks existed in HON may indicate that microbial activity was severely in Lake Hongfeng. There was a significant relationship between fluorescence intensities and specific UV absorbance at 254 nm for those DOM fractions, suggesting their similar luminescence characteristics. The values of fluorescence index (f450/500) indicated that hydrophobic fractions may derive from terrestrial sources, and the hydrophilic fractions from microbial and terrestrial origins. | 2 | Phosphorus speciation in the sediment profile of Lake Erhai, southwestern China: Fractionation and ^(31)P NMR显示文摘The distribution characteristics of phosphorus(P) forms in the sediment profile of Lake Erhai,in southwestern China has been investigated by sequential extraction and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(NMR) of NaOH extracts to understand P dynamics and its potential contribution to lake eutrophication.Contents of P fractions varied in the order of NH4Cl extracted P(NH4ClP) < bicarbonate-dithionite extracted P(BD-P) < HCl-P,Residual-P < NaOH extracted P(NaOH-P).The highly available NH4Cl-P represented less than 1% of total P(TP).BD-P and NaOH extracted reactive P(NaOH-rP) averaged 39%,while the ratio of Fe/P was higher than 15,indicating low P release from the sediments under permanent oxic condition.The less bio-available HCl-P,NaOH extracted nonreactive P(NaOH-nrP) and residual-P contributed 61% of TP.Regression analysis revealed that BD-P,NaOH-rP and HCl-P were positively correlated with the contents of Fe and Mn,Al and Fe,and Ca,respectively.The investigation of P compound groups in NaOH extracts by 31 P NMR showed that ortho-P and monoester-P were the largest two constituents of the P pool,followed by diester-P,phosphonate and pyro-P.A comparison of vertical variations of P groups in the sediment profile suggested that these compounds were involved in the P recycling to different extents in Lake Erhai.In particular,the lake exhibits high potential for labile P release from the surface sediments,which should be taken into consideration even after the outsourced P runoff ceased. | Runyu Zhang Liying Wang Fengchang Wu Baoan Song | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,6: | 7 |

| 4 | Temporal and spatial variations of low-molecular-weight organic acids in Dianchi Lake, China显示文摘Low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) in eutrophic lake water of Dianchi, Southwestern China Plateau were investigated diurnally and vertically using ion chromatography. Two profiles (P1 and P2) were studied due to the difference of hydrochemical features. Lactic, formic, pyruvic and oxalic acid were detected as major components at P1 and P2 which were on average 7.98 and 6.53 μmol/L, respectively, corresponding to their proportions of 2.68% and 2.48% relative to DOC. Pyruvic acid was regarded as the uppermost species at P1 and P2, reaching up to 3.82 and 3.35 μmol/L and accounting for 47.9% and 51.3%, respectively, in individual TOA. Although humus were of biogenetic production at both sites, the significant negative correlation between diurnal variations of TOAs, fluorescence intensity (FI) of protein-like components and humic-like components at P1 indicated LMWOAs were greatly originated from bacterioplankton excretion and degradation. However, correlations between diurnal variations of humic-like FI and physicochemical parameters demonstrated algal origination of LMWOAs at P2. Although content of humus was high, TOA at P2 was 1.45 μmol/L lower than that at P1, due to the co-influence of more intense photo-oxidation and aggregation at P2. Therefore, TOAs exhibited quite opposite diurnal variation trends of increasing-decreasing and decreasing-increasing at P1 and P2, respectively. Except for impact of solar radiation, bacterial decomposition and assimilation rendered shifts of maximal LMWOAs along water column at P1. | 5 | A Particle Filter Based Compressive Sensing Method for Tracking Moving Wideband Sound Sources显示文摘Tracking moving wideband sound sources is one of the most challenging issues in the acoustic array signal processing which is based on the direction of arrival(DOA) estimation. Compressive sensing(CS) is a recent theory exploring the signal sparsity representation, which has been proved to be superior for the DOA estimation. However, the spatial aliasing and the offset at endfire are the main obstacles for CS applied in the wideband DOA estimation. We propose a particle filter based compressive sensing method for tracking moving wideband sound sources. First, the initial DOA estimates are obtained by wideband CS algorithms. Then, the real sources are approximated by a set of particles with different weights assigned. The kernel density estimator is used as the likelihood function of particle filter. We present the results for both uniform and random linear array. Simulation results show that the spatial aliasing is disappeared and the offset at endfire is reduced. | 11 | The oxygen isotopic composition of phosphate as an effective tracer for phosphate sources in Hongfeng Lake显示文摘In order to characterize the oxygen isotopic composition of internal phosphate and explore the possibility of using these data to identify phosphate sources, we measured oxygen isotopic compositions of phosphate(δ^(18)O_p) in sediment pore water in Hongfeng Lake, a typical deep-water lake in a mountainous area. These data, in combination with δ^(18)O_p in surface water samples and water column samples, were successfully used to identify phosphate sources. The δ^(18)O_p value of sediment pore water ranged from 15.2% to 15.8%, with an average value of 15.5%—the δ^(18)O_p value of internal phosphate. The δ^(18)O_p values decreased gradually through the water column from 19.4% in surface water to 16.4% in deeper water, implying that internal phosphate had more negative δ^(18)O_p values than external phosphate. This finding was substantiated by horizontal variations in δ^(18)O_p values, which decreased with increasing distance from inflowing rivers. All collected evidence suggests that external and internal phosphate have distinctly different isotopic signatures and that these signatures have not been considerably altered by biological mediation in Hongfeng Lake. Therefore, δ^(18)O_p can be used to distinguish phosphate sources. A two-endmember mixing model showed that internal phosphate had an average contribution of 40%, highlighting the influence of internal phosphorus loading on aqueous phosphate and eutrophication. This study illustrates the need to reduce the internal phosphorus load from sediment and provides guidance for nutrient management and in-lake restoration treatment in Hongfeng Lake. The data presented here are limited, but serve to highlight the great potential of δ^(18)O_p as an effective tracer for identifying phosphate sources.
