1Nano-hydroxyapatite accelerates vascular calcification via lysosome impairment and autophagy dysfunction in smooth muscle cells显示文摘Vascular calcification(VC)is a common characteristic of aging,diabetes,chronic renal failure,and atherosclerosis.The basic component of VC is hydroxyapatite(HAp).Nano-sized HAp(nHAp)has been identified to play an essential role in the development of pathological calcification of vasculature.However,whether nHAp can induce calcification in vivo and the mechanism of nHAp in the progression of VC remains unclear.We discovered that nHAp existed both in vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs)and their extracellular matrix(ECM)in the calcified arteries from patients.Synthetic nHAp had similar morphological and chemical properties as natural nHAp recovered from calcified artery.nHAp stimulated osteogenic differentiation and accelerated mineralization of VSMCs in vitro.Synthetic nHAp could also directly induce VC in vivo.Mechanistically,nHAp was internalized into lysosome,which impaired lysosome vacuolar H+-ATPase for its acidification,therefore blocked autophagic flux in VSMCs.Lysosomal re-acidification by cyclic-3′,5′-adenosine monophosphate(cAMP)significantly enhanced autophagic degradation and attenuated nHAp-induced calcification.The accumulated autophagosomes and autolysosomes were converted into calcium-containing exosomes which were secreted into ECM and accelerated vascular calcium deposit.Inhibition of exosome release in VSMCs decreased calcium deposition.Altogether,our results demonstrated a repressive effect of nHAp on lysosomal acidification,which inhibited autophagic degradation and promoted a conversion of the accumulated autophagic vacuoles into exosomes that were loaded with undissolved nHAp,Ca^(2+),Pi and ALP.These exosomes bud off the plasma membrane,deposit within ECM,and form calcium nodules.Vascular calcification was thus accelerated by nHAP through blockage of autophagic flux in VSMCs.Qi Liu Yi Luo Yun Zhao Pingping Xiang Jinyun Zhu Wangwei Jing Wenjing Jin Mingyao Chen Ruikang Tang Hong Yu 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,2:5
2HIV-1 Vpr protein activates the NF-κB pathway to promote G2/M cell cycle arrest显示文摘Viral protein R(Vpr) plays an important role in the replication and pathogenesis of Human immunodeficiency virus type 1(HIV-1). Some of the various functions attributed to Vpr, including the induction of G2/M cell cycle arrest, activating the NF-κB pathway, and promoting viral reverse transcription, might be interrelated. To test this hypothesis, a panel of Vpr mutants were investigated for their ability to induce G2/M arrest and to activate the NF-κB pathway. The results showed that the Vpr mutants that failed to activate NF-κB also lost the activity to induce G2/M arrest, which suggests that inducing G2/M arrest via Vpr depends at least partially on the activation of NF-κB. 3Inorganic ionic polymerization:From biomineralization to materials manufacturing显示文摘Biomineralization process regulates the growth of inorganic minerals by complex molecules,proteins,and cells,endowing bio-materials with marvels structures and excellent properties.The intricate structures and compositions found in biominerals have inspired scientists to design and synthesize numerous artificial biomimetic materials.The methodology for controlling the formation of inorganics plays a pivotal role in achieving biomimetic structures and compositions.However,the current approach predominantly relies on the classical nucleation theory,which hinders the precise preparation of inorganic materials by replicating the biomineralization strategy.Recently,the development of“inorganic ionic polymerization”strategy has enabled us to regulate the arrangement of inorganic ions from solution to solid phase,which establishes an artificial way to produce inorganic materials analogous to the biomineralization process.Based on inorganic ionic polymerization,a series of achievements have been realized for the biomimetic preparation,including moldable construction of inorganic materials,hard tissue regeneration,and high-performance biomimetic materials.Moreover,the utilization of inorganic ionic polymerization has also facilitated the production of numerous advanced materials,including novel structures that exceed the current knowledge of materials science.The inorganic ionic polymerization system provides new artificial strategies and methodologies for the controllable synthesis of inorganics,which mimics the biomineralization process,paving the way for the future development of more high-performance materials.Yanhua Sang Kexin Qin Ruikang Tang Zhaoming Liu 2024Nano Research2024,17,2:1

5Discriminative fine-grained network for vehicle re-identification using two-stage re-ranking显示文摘Research on the application of vehicle re-identification to video surveillance has attracted increasingly growing attention.Existing methods are associated with the difficulties of distinguishing different instances of the same car model owing to the incapability of recognizing subtle differences among these instances and the possibility that a subtle difference may lead to incorrect results of ranking.In this paper,a discriminative fine-grained network for vehicle re-identification based on a two-stage re-ranking framework is proposed to address these issues.This discriminative fine-grained network(DFN)is composed of fine-grained and Siamese networks.The proposed hybrid network can extract discriminative features of the vehicle instances with subtle differences.The Siamese network is rather suitable for general object re-identification using two streams of the network,while the fine-grained network is capable of detecting subtle differences.The proposed two-stage re-ranking method allows obtaining a more reliable ranking list by using the Jaccard metric and merging the first and second re-ranking lists,where the latter list is formed using the sample mean feature.Experimental results on the VeR i-776 and VehicleID datasets show that the proposed method achieves the superior performance compared to the state-of-the-art methods used in vehicle re-identification.Qi WANG Weidong MIN Daojing HE Song ZOU Tiemei HUANG Yu ZHANG Ruikang LIU 2020Science China(Information Sciences)2020,63,11:1

7Preparation,luminescence and photofunctional performances of a hybrid layered gadolinium-europium hydroxide显示文摘The design and fabrication of rare earth ions incorporated into the inorganic/organic hybrid materials have attracted growing attention for seeking improved optical properties and photofunctional performances.In this paper,a novel hybrid composite based on the layered rare earth hydroxides was successfully prepared by the ion-exchange and intercalation chemical process.The rare earth elements in the composite contain gadolinium(Gd)and europium(Eu)and the molar ratio of Gd to Eu is kept constant at 1.9:0.1.Organic sodium dodecyl sulfonate and dye coumarin-3-carboxyllc acid are simultaneously incorporated into the layered rare earth hydroxides as supporting agent and light-harvesting antenna,respectively.The resulting hybrid layered rare earth hydroxides exhibit the enlarged interlayer distance with about 2.60 nm,and the chemical composition was confirmed through X-ray diffraction,carbon,hydrogen and nitrogen(CHN)elemental analysis,infrared spectroscopy,and thermogravimetric analysis.The layered solid compound shows the characteristic red emission corresponding to the^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(2)transition of Eu^(3+)ion,and the luminescence intensity of the optimized compound is greatly enhanced as compared to its corresponding nitrate and the hybrid composite without the introduction of dye molecule.The hybrid layered rare earth hydroxides can be exfoliated into bright colloidal solution,which show superior recognition capability to Cu^(2+)ion with the distinct luminescence quenching.The large quenching constant(1.4×10^(4)L/mol)and low detection limit(0.35μmol/L)are achieved for Cu^(2+)ion,implying a'turn-off'fluorescent sensor for Cu^(2+)detection.Moreover,a transparent film was prepared based on the colloidal solution and displays the typical red emission in folded shape.The new hybrid compound with enhanced luminescence and excellent photofunctional performances is expected to be applied in the fields of fluorescent sensing and flexible optical devices.Lu Liu Jingjie Yu Shikao Shi Jiye Wang Huihua Song Ruikang Zhang Lianshe Fu 2022Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,9:1

9Regrowth-free AlGaInAs MQW polarization controller integrated with a sidewall grating DFB laser显示文摘Polarization control is at the heart of high-capacity data optical communication systems,such as polarizationdivision multiplexers and Stokes vector modulation transmitters.Despite passive polarization control being mature,the realization of monolithically integrated polarization controllers and single longitudinal mode light sources,such as distributed-feedback(DFB)lasers,is of importance.In this research,we report an AlGaInAs multiple-quantum-well photonic integrated circuit device which can control the state of polarization of the output light source,consisting of a polarization mode converter(PMC),a differential phase shifter(DPS),and a sidewall grating DFB laser.We demonstrate an asymmetrical stepped-height ridge waveguide PMC to realize TE to TM polarization conversion and a symmetrical straight waveguide DPS to enable polarization rotation from approximately counterclockwise circular polarization to linear polarization.Based on the identical epitaxial layer scheme,all the PMC,DPS,and DFB lasers can be integrated monolithically using only a single step of metalorganic vapor-phase epitaxy and two steps of III-V material dry etching.For the DFB-PMC device,a high TE to TM polarization conversion efficiency(98.4%)over a wide range of DFB injection currents is reported at 1555 nm wavelength.For the DFB-PMC-DPS device,a nearly 60°rotation of the Stokes vector on the Poincarésphere was obtained with a range of bias voltage from 0 to-3.0 V at a laser drive current of 170 mA.XIAO SUN SONG LIANG WEIQING CHENG SHENGWEI YE YIMING SUN YONGGUANG HUANG RUIKANG ZHANG JICHUAN XIONG XUEFENG LIU JOHN HMARSH LIANPING HOU 2023Photonics Research2023,11,4:0
10TiO_(2)/CuPc/NiFe-LDH photoanode for efficient photoelectrochemical water splitting显示文摘Photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting is a promising approach for renewable hydrogen production.However,the practical PEC solar-to-fuel conversion efficiency is still low owing to poor light absorption and rapid recombination of charge carriers in photoelectrode.In this work,we report a ternary photoanode with simultaneously enhancement of light absorption and water oxidation efficiency by introducing copper phthalocyanine(CuPc)and nickel iron-laye red double hydroxide(NiFe-LDH)on TiO_(2)(denoted as TiO_(2)/CuPc/NiFe-LDH).An experimental study reveals that CuPc loading on TiO_(2)bring strong visible light absorption;NiFe-LDH as an oxygen evolution reaction catalyst efficiently accelerates the surface water oxidation reaction.This synergistic effect of CuPc and NiFe-LDH gives enhanced photocurrent density(2.10 mA/cm^(2)at 0.6 V vs.SCE)and excellent stability in the ternary TiO_(2)/CuPc/NiFeLDH photoanode.Yanfei Li Ruikang Zhang Jianming Li Jingchao Liu Yucong Miao Jian Guo Mingfei Shao 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,3:0
11Influence of reservoir construction on surrounding vegetation cover显示文摘Vegetation is a significant factor in the energy and water cycles.Changes in vegetation are affected by the natural environment and human activities.In this study,the Dalong Reservoir on the Ningyuan River in Sanya,Hainan,China,was taken as an example to set one type of buffer zone with the reservoir dam site as the center,and two types of horizontal and vertical buffer zones outwards from both banks of the river,and Landsat 5 remote sensing image data and the vegetation data were applied.A coverage estimation model was used to study the temporal and spatial changes in surface vegetation in three types of buffer zones,and the characteristics of the surface vegetation changes in the preterm,midterm and late-term reservoir construction periods were analyzed.The results showed that,(1)During the years 2000 and 2010,the vegetation coverage first decreased and then increased with time in the scope of the research.During preterm construction(2000-2004),the vegetation coverage in the upstream region decreased while that in the downstream region increased.During midterm construction(2004-2006),the declining rate of vegetation coverage downstream was greater than that upstream,but the influence of reservoir construction on vegetation coverage decreased over time in the late-term construction period(2007-2010);(2)Along the direction of the river length,the vegetation coverage showed a downtrend along with the river flow direction during the whole period(2000-2010),and the influence of reservoir construction on vegetation coverage gradually decreased as the distance from the reservoir increased;(3)Along the direction of the river width,the vegetation coverage in the preterm and midterm construction periods(2000-2006)increased with increasing distance from the riverbanks;(4)The vegetation coverage showed a significant increasing trend with increasing distance from the reservoir.The research results can provide a theoretical reference for reducing the risk of vegetation degradation,strengthening the governance of the ecological environment,and promoting the ecological construction of“landscapes,forests,fields,lakes and grass”.Ping Liu Xinrui Li Ruikang Zhang Mengrou Yao Junfeng Chen Yanrong Li Xiangru Jia Yunfei Xing 2021International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2021,14,3:0
12Suppressing dendritic metallic Li formation on graphite anode under battery fast charging显示文摘Lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)with fast-charging capability are essential for enhancing consumer experience and accelerating the global market adoption of electric vehicles.However,achieving fast-charging capability without compromising energy density,cycling lifespan,and safety of LIBs remains a significant challenge due to the formation of dendritic Li metal on graphite anode under fast charging condition.In view of this,the fundamentals for the dendritic metallic Li formation and the strategies for suppressing metallic Li plating based on analyzing the entire Li^(+)transport pathway at the anode including electrolyte,pore structure of electrode,and surface and bulk of materials are summarized and discussed in this review.Besides,we highlight the importance of designing thick electrodes with fast Li^(+)transport kinetics and comprehensively understanding the interaction between solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)and Li^(+)migration in order to avoid the formation of dendritic Li metal in practical fast-charging batteries.Finally,the regulation of Li metal plating with plane morphology,instead of dendritic structure,on the surface of graphite electrode under fast-charging condition is analyzed as a future direction to achieve higher energy density of batteries without safety concerns.Shiyu Liu Baoqi Gu Zihe Chen Renming Zhan Xiancheng Wang Ruikang Feng Yongming Sun 2024Journal of Energy Chemistry2024,91,4:0
