| 1 | Does Helicobacter pylori infection play a role in iron deficiency anemia? | 3 | Explicit diagnosis of the local ozone production rate and the ozone-NOx-VOC sensitivities显示文摘In the troposphere, ozone is a harmful gas compound to both human health and vegetation. Ozone is produced from the reaction of NO_x(@NO + NO_2) and VOCs(volatile organic compounds) with light. Due to the highly nonlinear relationships between ozone and its precursors, proper ozone mitigation relies on the knowledge of chemical mechanisms. In this study, an observation-based method is used to simulate ozone formation and elucidate its controlling factors for a rural site on the North China Plain. The instantaneous ozone production rate is calculated utilizing a box model using the dataset obtained from the Wangdu campaign. First, the model was operated in a time-dependent mode to calculate the ozone production rate at each time stamp. The calculated ozone formation rate showed a diurnal average maximum value of 17 ppbv/h(1-h diurnal averaged). The contribution of individual peroxy radicals to ozone production was analyzed. In addition, the functional dependence of calculated P(O_3) reveals that ozone production was in a NO_x-limited regime during the campaign. Furthermore, the missing peroxy radical source will further extend NO_x-limited conditions to earlier in the day, making NO_xlimitation dominate more of a day than the current chemical model predicts. Finally, a multiple scenarios mode,also known as EKMA(empirical kinetic modeling approach), was used to simulate the response of P(O_3) to the imaginary change in precursor concentrations. We found that ozone production was in the NO_x-limited region. | 5 | BMI, WC, WHtR, VFI and BFI: Which Indictor is the Most Efficient Screening Index on Type 2 Diabetes in Chinese Community Population显示文摘Objective Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, many indexes can be used to describes obesity and predict diabetes. This research attempts to identify the best indicator of obesity to screening diabetes in Chinese population. Methods A cross-sectional data of 8121 subjects aged 35-60 years were included in this research belongs to the Diabetes Appropriate Technology Intervention Study. Anthropometric indicators including body weight, height, waist circumferences (WC), body fat index (BFI) and visceral fat index (VFI) and blood biochemical indicators after an overnight fast [fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and triacylglycerol] were measured. BMI (body mass index) and Weight to Height Ratio was calculated. Results Subjects with obesity had a higher risk of physician diagnosed diabetes (OR=2.50, 95% CI 1.83-3.43), new diagnosed diabetes (OR=4.23, 95% CI 2.91-6.15) and pre-diabetes (OR=1.75, 95% CI 1.31-2.34) compared to those with normal Body mass index (BMI). There was a significant trend of increased risk of all diabetes status with increased waist circumference (WC). The waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) yielded the most significant association with new diagnosed diabetes and physician diagnosed diabetes than other indices. Conclusion Central obesity is significantly correlated with diabetes. | 9 | Rhizobacterium Bacillus amyloliquefaciens Strain SQRT3-Mediated Induced Systemic Resistance Controls Bacterial Wilt of Tomato显示文摘Tomato bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum seriously threats tomato growth in tropical and temperate regions around the world.This study reported an antagonistic bacterial strain, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain SQRT3, isolated from the rhizosphere soil of tomato plants, which strongly inhibited in vitro growth of pathogenic R.solanacearum.The suppression of tomato bacterial wilt by strain SQRT3 was demonstrated under greenhouse conditions.Additionally, induced systemic resistance(ISR) in tomato as one of the potential disease suppression mechanisms was investigated in the plants inoculated with the isolated bacterial strain SQRT3.The results showed that strain SQRT3 applied with R.solanacearum by drenching significantly reduced tomato bacterial wilt by 68.1% biocontrol efficiency(BE) and suppressed the R.solanacearum populations in the rhizosphere soil compared to the control only drenched with R.solanacearum.The BE of the isolated bacterial strain SQRT3 against tomato wilt increased to 84.1%by root-dipping.Tomato plants treated with both strain SQRT3 and R.solanacearum showed increases in activities of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase compared with other treatments.The application of strain SQRT3 reduced membrane lipid peroxidation in tomato leaves.The expressions of marker genes for jasmonic acid-and salicylic acid-dependent signaling pathways were faster and stronger in tomato plants treated with both strain SQRT3 and R.solanacearum than in plants treated with either R.solanacearum or strain SQRT3 alone.Collectively, the findings indicated that strain SQRT3 can effectively control tomato wilt. | LI Chunyu HU Weicong PAN Bin LIU Yan YUAN Saifei DING Yuanyuan LI Rong ZHENG Xinyan SHEN Biao SHEN Qirong | 2017 | Pedosphere2017,27,6: | 18 |

| 12 | Therapeutic imaging window of cerebral infarction revealed by multisequence magnetic resonance imaging An animal and clinical study显示文摘In this study, we established a Wistar rat model of right middle cerebral artery occlusion and observed pathological imaging changes (T2-weighted imaging [T2WI], T2FLAIR, and diffusion-weighted imaging [DWI]) following cerebral infarction. The pathological changes were divided into three phases: early cerebral infarction, middle cerebral infarction, and late cerebral infarction. In the early cerebral infarction phase (less than 2 hours post-infarction), there was evidence of intracellular edema, which improved after reperfusion. This improvement was defined as the ischemic penumbra. In this phase, a high DWI signal and a low apparent diffusion coefficient were observed in the right basal ganglia region. By contrast, there were no abnormal T2WI and T2FLAIR signals. For the middle cerebral infarction phase (2-4 hours post-infarction), a mixed edema was observed. After reperfusion, there was a mild improvement in cell edema, while the angioedema became more serious. A high DWI signal and a low apparent diffusion coefficient signal were observed, and some rats showed high T2WI and T2FLAIR signals. For the late cerebral infarction phase (4-6 hours post-infarction), significant angioedema was visible in the infarction site. After reperfusion, there was a significant increase in angioedema, while there was evidence of hemorrhage and necrosis. A mixed signal was observed on DWI, while a high apparent diffusion coefficient signal, a high T2WI signal, and a high T2FLAIR signal were also observed. All 86 cerebral infarction patients were subjected to T2WI, T2FLAIR, and DWI. MRI results of clinic data similar to the early infarction phase of animal experiments were found in 51 patients, for which 10 patients (10/51) had an onset time greater than 6 hours. A total of 35 patients had MRI results similar to the middle and late infarction phase of animal experiments, of which eight patients (8/35) had an onset time less than 6 hours. These data suggest that defining the 'therapeutic time window' as the time 6 hours after infarction may not be suitable for all patients. | 14 | Gene interference regulates aquaporin-4 expression in swollen tissue of rats with cerebral ischemic edema Correlation with variation in apparent diffusion coefficient显示文摘To investigate the effects of mRNA interference on aquaporin-4 expression in swollen tissue of rats with ischemic cerebral edema, and diagnose the significance of diffusion-weighted MRI, we injected 5 μL shRNA- aquaporin-4 (control group) or siRNA- aquaporin-4 solution (1:800) (RNA interference group) into the rat right basal ganglia immediately before occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. At 0.25 hours after occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, diffusion-weighted MRI displayed a high signal; within 2 hours, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient decreased markedly, aquaporin-4 expression increased rapidly, and intracellular edema was obviously aggravated; at 4 and 6 hours, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient slowly returned to control levels, aquaporin-4 expression slightly increased, and angioedema was observed. In the RNA interference group, during 0.25- 6 hours after injection of siRNA- aquaporin-4 solution, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient slightly fluctuated and aquaporin-4 expression was upregulated; during 0.5-4 hours, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient was significantly higher, while aquaporin-4 expression was significantly lower when compared with the control group, and intracellular edema was markedly reduced; at 0.25 and 6 hours, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient and aquaporin-4 expression were similar when compared with the control group; obvious angioedema remained at 6 hours. Pearson's correlation test results showed that aquaporin-4 expression was negatively correlated with the apparent diffusion coefficient (r = -0.806, P < 0.01). These findings suggest that upregulated aquaporin-4 expression is likely to be the main molecular mechanism of intracellular edema and may be the molecular basis for decreased relative apparent diffusion coefficient. Aquaporin-4 gene interference can effectively inhibit the upregulation of aquaporin-4 expression during the stage of intracellular edema with time-effectiveness. | 17 | Carbon and Oxygen Isotopic Compositions: How Lacustrine Environmental Factors Respond in Northwestern and Northeastern China显示文摘Surface lake sediments,28 from Hoh Xil,24 from northeastern China,99 from Lake Bosten,31 from Ulungur and 26 from Heihai were collected to determine δ13C and δ18O values.Considering the impact factors,conductivity,alkalinity,pH,TOC,C/N and carbonate-content in the sediments,Cl,P,S,and metal element ratios of Mg/Ca,Sr/Ca,Fe/Mn of bulk sediments as environmental variables enable evaluation of their influences on δ13C and δ18O using principal component analysis(PCA) method.The closure and residence time of lakes can influence the correlation between δ13C and δ18O.Lake water will change from fresh to brackish with increasing reduction and eutrophication effects.Mg/Ca in the bulk sediment indicates the characteristic of residence time,Sr/Ca and Fe/Mn infer the salinity of lakes.Carbonate formation processes and types can influence the δ13C–δ18O correlation.δ18O will be heavier from Mg-calcite and aragonite formed in a high-salinity water body than calcite formed in freshwater conditions.When carbonate content is less than 30%,there is no relationship with either δ13C or δ18O,and also none between δ13C and δ18O.More than 30%,carbonate content,however,co-varies highly to δ13C and δ18O,and there is also a high correlation between δ13C and δ18O.Vegetation conditions and primary productivity of lakes can influence the characteristics of δ13C and δ18O,and their co-variance.Total organic matter content(TOC) in the sediments is higher with more terrestrial and submerged plants infilling.In northeastern and northwestern China,when organic matter in the lake sediments comes from endogenous floating organisms and algae,the δ13C value is high.δ13C is in the range of 4‰ to 0‰ when organic matter comes mainly from floating organisms(C/N<6);in the range of 4‰ to 8‰ when organic matter comes from diatoms(C/N=6 to 8);and 8‰ to 4‰ when organic matter comes from aquatic and terrestrial plants(C/N>8). | ZHANG Chengjun FAN Rong LI Jun Steffen MISCHKE laise DEMBELE HU Xiaolan | 2013 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2013,87,5: | 13 |

| 20 | Aspartic acid in the hippocampus:a biomarker for postoperative cognitive dysfunction显示文摘This study established an aged rat model of cognitive dysfunction using anesthesia with 2% isoflurane and 80% oxygen for 2 hours. Twenty-four hours later, Y-maze test results showed that isoflurane significantly impaired cognitive function in aged rats. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry results showed that isoflurane also significantly increased the levels of N,N-diethylacetamide, n-ethylacetamide, aspartic acid, malic acid and arabinonic acid in the hippocampus of isoflurane-treated rats. Moreover, aspartic acid, N,N-diethylacetamide, n-ethylacetamide and malic acid concentration was positively correlated with the degree of cognitive dysfunction in the isoflurane-treated rats. It is evident that hippocampal metabolite changes are involved in the formation of cognitive dysfunction after isoflurane anesthesia. To further verify these results, this study cultured hippocampal neurons in vitro, which were then treated with aspartic acid(100 μmol/L).
