| 1 | Identification of squamous cell carcinoma associated proteins by proteomics and loss of beta tropomyosin expression in esophageal cancer显示文摘AIM: To assess the proteome of normal versus tumor tissue in squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus (SCCE) in Iranian patients and compare our results with former reports by using proteomics. METHODS: Protein was extracted from normal and tumor tissues. Two dimensional electrophoresis was carried out and spots with differential expression were identified with mass spectrometry. RNA extraction and RT-PCR along with immunodetection were performed. RESULTS: Fourteen proteins were found whose expression levels differed in tumor compared to normal tissues. Mass spectrometric analysis resulted in the identification of β-tropomyosin (TMβ), myosin light chain 2 (and its isoform), myosin regulatory light chain 2, peroxyredoxin 2, annexinⅠand an unknown polypeptide as the down regulated polypeptides in tumor tissue. Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), TPM4-ALK fusion oncoprotein 2, myosin light polypeptide 6, keratinⅠ, GH16431p and calreticulin were the up-regulated polypeptides found in tumor tissue. Several of these proteins, such as TMβ,HSP70, annexinⅠ, calreticulin, TPM4-ALK and isoforms of myosins, have been well recognized in tumorigenesis of esophageal or other types of cancers. | 2 | Cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal chemotherapy for colorectal peritoneal metastases显示文摘AIM:To systematically review the available evidence regarding cytoreductive surgery(CRS) and intraperitoneal chemotherapy(IPC) for colorectal peritoneal metastases(CPM).METHODS:An electronic literature search was carried out to identify publications reporting oncological outcome data(overall survival and/or disease free survival and/or recurrence rates)following CRS and IPC for treatment of CPM.Studies reporting outcomes following CRS and IPC for cancer subtypes other than colorectal were only included if data were reported independently for colorectal cancer-associated cases;in addition studies reporting outcomes for peritoneal carcinomatosis of appendiceal origin were excluded.RESULTS:Twenty seven studies,published between1999 and 2013 with a combined population of 2838patients met the predefined inclusion criteria.Included studies comprised 21 case series,5 case-control studies and 1 randomised controlled trial.Four studies provided comparative oncological outcome data for patients undergoing CRS in combination with IPC vs systemic chemotherapy alone.The primary indication for treatment was CPM in 96%of cases(2714/2838)and recurrent CPM(rCPM)in the remaining 4%(124/2838).In the majority of included studies(20/27)CRS was combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC).In 3 studies HIPEC was used in combination with early post-operative intraperitoneal chemotherapy(EPIC),and 2 studies used EPIC only,following CRS.Two studies evaluated comparative outcomes with CRS+HIPEC vs CRS+EPIC for treatment of CPM.The delivery of IPC was performed using an'open'or'closed'abdomen approach in the included studies.CONCLUSION:The available evidence presented in this review indicates that enhanced survival times can be achieved for CPM after combined treatment with CRS and IPC. | Reza Mirnezami Brendan J Moran Kate Harvey Tom Cecil Kandiah Chandrakumaran Norman Carr Faheez Mohamed Alexander H Mirnezami | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,38: | 6 |
| 3 | Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer Modeling of AC Arc in Ferrosilicon Submerged Arc Furnace显示文摘A two-dimensional mathematical model was developed to describe the heat transfer and fluid flow in an AC arc zone of a ferrosilicon submerged arc furnace.In this model,the time-dependent conservation equations of mass,momentum,and energy in the specified domain of plasma zone were numerically solved by coupling with the Maxwell and Laplace equations for magnetic filed and electric potential,respectively.A control volume-based finite difference method was used to solve the governing equations in cylindrical coordinates.The reliability of the developed model was checked by experimental data from the previous available literature.The results of present model were in good agreement with the given data comparing with other models,because of solving the Maxwell and Laplace equations simultaneously in order to calculate current density.In addition,parametric studies were carried out to evaluate the effects of electrical current and arc length on flow field and temperature distribution within the arc.According to the computed results,a lower power input led to a higher arc efficiency. | M Mohebi Moghadam S H Seyedein M Reza Aboutalebi | 2010 | Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2010,17,9: | 5 |
| 4 | Atmospheric pressure gliding arc discharge plasma treatments for improving germination, growth and yield of wheat显示文摘Wheat(Triticum aestivum) seeds were treated with atmospheric pressure gliding arc discharge plasmas to investigate the effects on water absorption, seed germination rate, seedling growth and yield in wheat. The surface architectures and functionalities of the seeds were found to modify due to plasma treatments. 6 min treatment was provided 95%–100% germination rate.For the treatment duration of 3 and 9 min the growth activity, dry matter accumulation, leaves chlorophyll contents, longest spikes, number of spikes/spikelet and total soluble protein content in shoots were improved.
