| 1 | p16 promoter hypermethylation:A useful serum marker for early detection of gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To determine p16 promoter hypermethylation in gastric tumoral tissue and serum samples, its impact on p16-protein expression, and correlation with clinical and histological features. METHODS: Samples were obtained from 52 histologically confirmed cases of gastric adenocarcinoma. Gastric tissue and serum of 50 age- and sex-matched individuals with normal gastroscopy and biopsy were obtained as control samples. Methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP) was used to evaluate methylation status of p16 promoter. p16-protein expression was analyzed by immunohistochemical staining on paraffin-embedded sections. RESULTS: Methylation was detected in 44.2% (23/52) of tumoral tissues. 60.9% of them were also methylated in serum, i.e., 26.9% of all patients (14/52). Methylation was not detected in tissue and sera of control samples. p16-protein expression was decreased in 61.5% of cases (32/52), and was significantly associated with promoter hypermethylation (P < 0.001). Methylation was significantly more frequent in higher pathological grades (P < 0.05). Methylation was not associated with other clinicopathological features and environmental factors including H pylori infection and smoking. CONCLUSION: p16 promoter hypermethylation is an important event in gastric carcinogenesis. It is the principle mechanism of p16 gene silencing. It is related to malignant tumor behavior. | 2 | Atmospheric pressure gliding arc discharge plasma treatments for improving germination, growth and yield of wheat显示文摘Wheat(Triticum aestivum) seeds were treated with atmospheric pressure gliding arc discharge plasmas to investigate the effects on water absorption, seed germination rate, seedling growth and yield in wheat. The surface architectures and functionalities of the seeds were found to modify due to plasma treatments. 6 min treatment was provided 95%–100% germination rate.For the treatment duration of 3 and 9 min the growth activity, dry matter accumulation, leaves chlorophyll contents, longest spikes, number of spikes/spikelet and total soluble protein content in shoots were improved. | 3 | Association of homocysteine and smoking with cerebral microemboli in patients with mechanical heart valves:a transcranial Doppler study显示文摘Objectives Microembolic signals(MES)on transcranial Doppler(TCD)predict stroke and cognitive decline.Plasma levels of total homocysteine(tHcy),a prothrombotic factor,are higher in patients with microemboli in carotid stenosis and in patients with paradoxical embolism.In this study we assessed the association between the level of tHcy and the number of MES in patients with mechanical heart valves(MHVs).Methods TCD monitoring was performed to detect MES before and after breathing 100% oxygen and repeated every 2-4 weeks up to six times.results Twenty-five patients with MHVs(mean age:63.60±10.15 years)participated in this study;15 were men(66.47±7.25 years)and 10 were women(59.30±12.60 years).In total,there were 126 study visits.In multiple regression,higher tHcy was associated with more MES in both preoxygenation(OR 1.34(95%CI 1.07 to 1.68,P=0.009))and postoxygenation(OR 1.40(95% CI 1.07 to 1.83,P=0.01))phases.Current smoking and the length of time between the operation and monitoring also correlated with a higher number of MES before and after breathing oxygen,particularly in women.conclusions Higher tHcy and smoking were associated with a higher MES count in both preoxygenation and postoxygenation phases.Because smoking can be stopped and hyperhomocysteinaemia is treatable,these are clinically important findings. | Alicia Mattia M Reza Azarpazhooh Claudio Munoz Chrysi Bogiatzi Mackenzie A Quantz J David Spence | 2017 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2017，2，4： | 2 |
