| 3 | The origin of Wx^(la) provides new insights into the improvement of grain quality in rice显示文摘Appearance and taste are important factors in rice(Oryza sativa) grain quality. Here, we investigated the taste scores and related eating-quality traits of533 diverse cultivars to assess the relationships between—and genetic basis of—rice taste and eating-quality. A genome-wide association study highlighted the Wx gene as the major factor underlying variation in taste and eating quality. Notably, a novel waxy(Wx) allele, Wx^(la), which combined two mutations from Wx^(b) and Wx^(in), exhibited a unique phenotype. Reduced GBSSI activity conferred Wx^(la) rice with both a transparent appearance and good eating quality. Haplotype analysis revealed that Wx^(la) was derived from intragenic recombination. In fact,the recombination rate at the Wx locus was estimated to be 3.34 kb/c M, which was about 75-fold higher than the genome-wide mean, indicating that intragenic recombination is a major force driving diversity at the Wx locus. Based on our results, we propose a new network for Wx evolution, noting that new Wx alleles could easily be generated by crossing genotypes with different Wx alleles. | 5 | Metal-support interactions in designing noble metal-based catalysts for electrochemical CO_(2) reduction: Recent advances and future perspectives显示文摘Electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction (CO_(2) RR) offers a practical solution to current global greenhouse effect by converting excessive CO_(2) into value-added chemicals or fuels. Noble metal-based nanomaterials have been considered as efficient catalysts for the CO_(2) RR owing to their high catalytic activity, long-term stability and superior selectivity to targeted products. On the other hand, they are usually loaded on different support materials in order to minimize their usage and maximize the utilization because of high price and limited reserve. The strong metal-support interaction (MSI) between the metal and substrate plays an important role in affecting the CO_(2) RR performance. In this review, we mainly focus on different types of support materials (e.g., oxides, carbons, ligands, alloys and metal carbides) interacting with noble metal as electrocatalysts for CO_(2) RR. Moreover, the positive effects about MSI for boosting the CO_(2) RR performance via regulating the adsorption strength, electronic structure, coordination environment and binding energy are presented. | 6 | Genetic architecture and key genes controlling the diversity of oil composition in rice grains显示文摘Rice grain oil is a valuable nutrient source.However,the genetic basis of oil biosynthesis in rice grains remains unclear.In this study,we performed a genome-wide association study on oil composition and oil concentration in a diverse panel of 533 cultivated rice accessions.High variation for 11 oil-related traits was observed,and the oil composition of rice grains showed differentiation among the subpopulations.We identified 46 loci that are significantly associated with grain oil concentration or composition,16 of which were detected in three recombinant inbred line populations.Twenty-six candidate genes encoding enzymes involved in oil metabolism were identified from these 46 loci,four of which(PAL6,LIN6,MYR2,and ARA6)were found to contribute to natural variation in oil composition and to show differentiation among the subpopulations.Interestingly,population genetic analyses revealed that specific haplotypes of PAL6 and LIN6 have been selected in japonica rice.Based on these results,we propose a possible oil biosynthetic pathway in rice grains.Collectively,our results provide new insights into the genetic basis of oil biosynthesis in rice grains and can facilitate marker-based breeding of rice varieties with enhanced oil and grain quality. | Hao Zhou Duo Xia Pingbo Li Yiting Ao Xiaodong Xu Shanshan Wan Yanhua Li Bian Wu Huan Shi Kaiyue Wang Guanjun Gao Qinglu Zhang Gongwei Wang Jinghua Xiao Xianghua Li Sibin Yu Xingming Lian Yuqing He | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,3: | 4 |
| 7 | Development of 'Multi-Resistance Rice' by Pyramiding of Insect (Cry1C) and Blast Resistance (Pi1 and Pi2) Genes显示文摘[Objective] The paper was to improve the blast resistance of insect-resistant transgenic rice. [Method] The Japonica rice variety Jikang10, a new transgenic variety with exogenous insect-resistant gene Cry1C, was used as the receptor, and Kongyu 131, a traditional breeding variety with broad-spectrum high blast resistance genes Pi1 and Pi2, was used as the donor to breeding new rice varieties. The genes were polymerized by hybridization and multi-generation backcrossing, and the offspring of each generation was screened by molecular marker assisted selection, field identification of multi-resistance against insect pests and diseases and agronomic trait selection. [Result] Four lines SK01, SK02, SK03 and SK04 with better resistances to insect pests and blast and outstanding agronomic traits in field were selected. | 9 | Fabrication of graphene nanoplatelets reinforced Mg matrix composites via powder thixoforging显示文摘A powder thixoforging route combined with slurry based mixing process was proposed to fabricate graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs) reinforced magnesium matrix composites(MgMCs). The originally spherical and ball-milled ZK60 powders were used as matrices, respectively.The mixing of 0.05 wt.% GNPs with the spherical powder led to GNPs clusters and degraded the mechanical properties of the composite.In contrast, with the addition of an optimal content(0.1 wt.%) of GNPs, the composite fabricated from ball-milled powder achieved a joint enhancement in tensile yield strength(52%) and fracture toughness(19%), demonstrating a pronounced strengthening efficiency of 650% and a good balance between strength and toughness. The ball-milled powder endowed the composite with a homogenous distribution of GNPs and a denser microstructure with reduced Mg-Zn eutectics, and the thixoforging process offered a well-bonded Mg/GNP interface, making full use of the strengthening and toughening potential of GNPs. Theoretical predication based on a modified shear-lag model suggested that load transfer dominated the strengthening mechanisms. In-situ tensile tests verified that crack deflection, secondary cracks and GNPs bridging mainly accounted for the toughening mechanisms. | 10 | DFT study on ORR catalyzed by bimetallic Pt-skin metals over substrates of Ir,Pd and Au显示文摘Bimetallic Pt-skin catalyst is a class of near-surface alloy(NSA)that owns a high degree of control over composition.Herein,density functional theory(DFT)is used to calculate the energetics of oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)on Pt-skin over Ir,Pd and Au substrates.A Brønsted-Evans-Polanyi(BEP)relationship can be determined for the oxygen molecule dissociation.The binding energy of both atomic oxygen and hydroxyl radical is found to correlate well with the d band center of Pt-skin atoms.Their catalytic activities show the volcano relationship as the positions of each substrate in the periodic table.The effect of surface strain,band structure and charge transfer on the d band center is well studied,and it can be found that the surface strain effect plays a dominant role for all Pt-skin catalysts.Ir substrate makes the d band center of Pt-skin go far away from the Fermi level,while Au substrate makes it move towards the Fermi level.Being different from both Ir and Au,Pd substrate makes the d band center of Pt-skin comparable with the monometallic Pt. | Xueqiang Qi Tingting Yang Pingbo Li Zidong Wei | 2023 | Nano Materials Science2023,5,3: | 0 |
