| 1 | Characterization and cloning of a brittle culm mutant (bc88) in rice (Oryza sativa L.)显示文摘This study characterizes a brittle culm (bc88) mutant of rice (Oryza sativa L.) obtained by ethylene methylsulfonate (EMS)-induced mutagenesis of Wuyunjing 7. The bc88 mutant exhibits a diversity of pleiotropic phenotypes, including brittle culm at the whole-plant growth stages, withered leaf tips at the seedling stage, and 18-d delay in heading date at the mature stage. Genetic analysis indicates that the bc88 mutant is controlled by a single recessive nuclear gene. The mutated bc88 gene isolated by map-based cloning contains only one point mutation in the 5th exon relative to its wild-type BC88 (LOC_Os09g25490 and Os09g0422500), leading to an amino acid change from P to L in bc88 plants. Alignment of the putative protein sequence with its homologs indicates that the mutation is located in the conserved region of the sequence. Detection of the transcription level of BC88 in rice plants shows that the expression level of BC88 is higher in spikes and culms than in leaves, roots, and leaf sheaths. These contribute to understanding of the molecular mechanism of cellulose synthesis. | 2 | Mineral Transition of Calcium Aluminate Clinker during High-Temperature Sintering with Low-lime Dosage显示文摘The mineral transition mechanism and physicochemical property of calcium aluminate clinker sintered at 1350 ℃ were systematically studied using analytical reagent α-Al_2O_3,CaCO_3 and SiO_2 when the molar ratio of CaO to Al_2O_3 is 1.0.The results show that the formation of Ca_2SiO_4 accelerates the diffusion of CaO and Al_2O_3,which promotes the formation of CaAl_2O_4 determined by dilatometer,X-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy methods.CaAl_4O_7,Ca_3Al_2O_6,Ca_3SiO_5 and Ca_2Al_2SiO_7 only exist in the initial stage of reactions,the amounts of which decrease with the increase of sintering duration.Ca_3Al_2O_6 and Ca_(12)Al_(14)O_(33) react with Al_2O_3 and CaAl_4O_7 to form CaAl_2O_4,while Ca_2Al_2SiO_7 reacts with CaO and Ca_(12)Al_(14)O_(33) to form Ca_2SiO_4 and CaAl_2O_4.The sintered clinker contains CaAl_2O_4 and γ-Ca_2SiO_4 as well as some Ca_(12)Al_(14)O_(33) when the sintering duration is longer than 1.0 h.The differential scanning calorimetry results reveal that Ca_2SiO_4,Ca_2Al_2SiO_7 and CaAl_2O_4 are formed at985 ℃,1045℃ and 1339 ℃,respectively.Increasing the sintering duration contributes to the transition of β-Ca_2SiO_4 to γ-Ca_2SiO_4,which improves the pulverization and alumina leaching property of the sintered clinker. | Di Zhang Xiaolin Pan Haiyan Yu Yuchun Zhai | 2015 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,12: | 7 |
| 3 | MULTI-TILLERING DWARF1, a new allele of BRITTLE CULM 12, affects plant height and tiller in rice显示文摘Plant height and tillering are crucial factors determining rice plant architecture and influencing rice grain production. In this study, multi-tillering dwarf1(mtd1), a stable multi-tiller and dwarf mutant, was screened from the ethylmethane sulfonate-treated japonica rice variety Wuyunging7. Compared with the wild type, mtd1 mutant exhibited pleiotropic phenotypes, including dwarfism, more tillers, brittle culms and delayed heading date.By employing map-based cloning strategy, the gene MTD1 was finally mapped to an approximately 66-kb region on the short arm of chromosome 9. Sequencing results showed that the gene LOC_Os09g02650(BC12) in mtd1 mutant had a single nucleotide substitution(G to A), which generated a premature translation stop. Over-expressing MTD1/BC12 coding sequence rescued all the phenotypes of mtd1 mutants including plant height and tillers, which confirms that BC12 is the mutated gene in mtd1 mutant.Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR analysis showed that MTD1/BC12 could negatively regulate the expression of MONOCULM 1, IDEAL PLANT ARCHITECTURE1 and Tillering and Dwarf 1, and control rice tillering. Remarkably, a-amylase activity analysis and gibberellic acid(GA)treatment showed that the dwarf phenotype of mtd1 mutant was dependent on GA biosynthesis pathway. | 5 | A rice XANTHINE DEHYDROGENASE gene regulates leaf senescence and response to abiotic stresses显示文摘Xanthine dehydrogenase, a member of the molybdenum enzyme family, participates in purine metabolism and catalyzes the generation of ureides from xanthine and hypoxanthine. However, the mechanisms by which xanthine dehydrogenase affects rice growth and development are poorly understood. In the present study, we identified a mutant with early leaf senescence and reduced tillering that we named early senescence and less-tillering 1(esl1). Map-based cloning revealed that ESL1 encodes a xanthine dehydrogenase, and it was expressed in all tissues. Chlorophyll content was reduced and chloroplast maldevelopment was severe in the esl1 mutant. Mutation of ESL1 led to decreases in allantoin, allantoate, and ABA contents. Further analysis revealed that the accumulation of reactive oxygen species in esl1 resulted in decreased photosynthesis and impaired chloroplast development, along with increased sensitivity to abscisic acid and abiotic stresses. | 6 | Diverse Asgard archaea including the novel phylum Gerdarchaeota participate in organic matter degradation显示文摘Asgard is an archaeal superphylum that might hold the key to understand the origin of eukaryotes, but its diversity and ecological roles remain poorly understood. Here, we reconstructed 15 metagenomic-assembled genomes from coastal sediments covering most known Asgard archaea and a novel group, which is proposed as a new Asgard phylum named as the 'Gerdarchaeota'.Genomic analyses predict that Gerdarchaeota are facultative anaerobes in utilizing both organic and inorganic carbon. Unlike their closest relatives Heimdallarchaeota, Gerdarchaeota have genes encoding for cellulase and enzymes involved in the tetrahydromethanopterin-based Wood–Ljungdahl pathway. Transcriptomics showed that most of our identified Asgard archaea are capable of degrading organic matter, including peptides, amino acids and fatty acids, occupying ecological niches in different depths of layers of the sediments. | 12 | Insights into the architecture of human-induced polygenic selection in Duroc pigs显示文摘Background:As one of the most utilized commercial composite boar lines,Duroc pigs have been introduced to China and undergone strongly human-induced selection over the past decades.However,the efficiencies and limitations of previous breeding of Chinese Duroc pigs are largely understudied.The objective of this study was to uncover directional polygenic selection in the Duroc pig genome,and investigate points overlooked in the past breeding process.Results:Here,we utilized the Generation Proxy Selection Mapping(GPSM)on a dataset of 1067 Duroc pigs with 8,766,074 imputed SNPs.GPSM detected a total of 5649 putative SNPs actively under selection in the Chinese Duroc pig population,and the potential functions of the selection regions were mainly related to production,meat and carcass traits.Meanwhile,we observed that the allele frequency of variants related to teat number(NT)relevant traits was also changed,which might be influenced by genes that had pleiotropic effects.First,we identified the direction of selection on NT traits by G,and further pinpointed large-effect genomic regions associated with NT relevant traits by selection signature and GWAS.Combining results of NT relevant traits-specific selection signatures and GWAS,we found three common genome regions,which were overlapped with QTLs related to production,meat and carcass traits besides“teat number”QTLs.This implied that there were some pleiotropic variants underlying NT and economic traits.We further found that rs346331089 has pleiotropic effects on NT and economic traits,e.g.,litter size at weaning(LSW),litter weight at weaning(LWW),days to 100 kg(D100),backfat thickness at 100 kg(B100),and loin muscle area at 100 kg(L100)traits.Conclusions:The selected loci that we identified across methods displayed the past breeding process of Chinese Duroc pigs,and our findings could be used to inform future breeding decision. | Zitao Chen Jinyan Teng Shuqi Diao Zhiting Xu Shaopan Ye Dingjie Qiu Zhe Zhang Yuchun Pan Jiaqi Li Qin Zhang Zhe Zhang | 2023 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2023,14,1: | 0 |

| 14 | Modulating Co-Co bonds average length in Co_(0.85)Se_(1-x)S_(x)to enhance conversion reaction for potassium storage显示文摘While alloying transition metal chalcogenides(TMCs)with other chalcogen elements can effectively improve their conductivity and electrochemical properties,the optimal alloying content is still uncertain.In this study,we study the influence of dopant concentration on the chemical bonds in TMC and reveal the associated stepwise conversion reaction mechanism for potassium ion storage.According to density function theory calculations,appropriate S-doping in Co0.85Se(Co_(0.85)Se_(1-x)S_(x))can reduce the average length of Co-Co bonds because of the electronegativity variation,which is thermodynamically favourable to the phase transition reactions.The optimal Se/S ratio(x=0.12)for the conductivity has been obtained from experimental results.When assembled as an anode in potassium-ion batteries(PIBs),the sample with optimized Se/S ratio exhibits extraordinary electrochemical performance.The rate performance(229.2 mA h g^(-1)at 10 A g^(-1))is superior to the state-of-the-art results.When assembled with Prussian blue(PB)as a cathode,the pouch cell exhibits excellent performance,demonstrating its great potential for applications.Moreover,the stepwise K+storage mechanism caused by the coexistence of S and Se is revealed by in-situ X-ray diffraction and ex-situ transmission electron microscopy techniques.Hence,this work not only provides an effective strategy to enhance the electrochemical performance of transition metal chalcogenides but also reveals the underlying mechanism for the construction of advanced electrode materials. | Daming Chen Yuchun Liu Pan Feng Xiao Tao Zhiquan Huang Xiyu Zhang Min Zhou Jian Chen | 2024 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2024,91,4: | 0 |
