| 1 | WNT/β-catenin signaling in urothelial carcinoma of bladder显示文摘Urothelial carcinoma of bladder is the second most prevalent genitourinary disease.It is a highly heterogeneous disease as it represents a spectrum of neoplasms,including non-muscle invasive bladder cancer(NMIBC),muscle invasive bladder cancer(MIBC)and metastatic lesions.Genome-wide approaches and candidate gene analysis suggest that malignant transformation of the bladder is multifactorial and a multitude of genes are involved in the development of MIBC or NMIBC phenotypes.Wnt signaling is being examined to control and maintain balance between stemness and differentiation in adult stem cell niches.Owing to its participation in urothelial development and maintenance of adult urothelial tissue homeostasis,the components of Wnt signaling are reported as an important diagnostic and prognostic markers as well as novel therapeutic targets.Mutations/epigenetic alterations in the key molecules of Wnt/β-catenin canonical pathway have been linked with tumorigenesis,development of drug resistance and enhanced survival.Present review extends our understanding on the functions of key regulatory molecules of canonical Wnt/β-catenin pathway in urothelial tumorigenesis by inducing cancer stem cell phenotype(UCSCs).UCSCs may be responsible for tumor heterogeneity,high recurrence rates and complex biological behavior of bladder cancer.Therefore,understanding the role of UCSCs and the regulatory mechanisms that are responsible for high relapse rates and metastasis could help to develop pathway inhibitors and augment current therapies.Potential implications in the treatment of urothelial carcinoma of bladder by targeting this pathway primarily in UCSCs as well as in bulk tumor population that are responsible for high relapse rates and metastasis may facilitate potential therapeutic avenues and better prognosis. | Minal Garg Niharika Maurya | 2019 | World Journal of Nephrology2019,8,5: | 11 |

We report a rare case of a 65-year-old male with no respiratory symptoms diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the lung by histopathological examination of metastatic sites which included an ulcer in the gastric body and a mass in the rectum. Metastatic disease also involved the liver as well. | 4 | Clinicohistopathological implications of phosphoserine 9 glycogen synthase kinase-3β/β-catenin in urinary bladder cancer patients显示文摘BACKGROUND Aberrant activation of phosphorylated form of glycogen synthase kinase-3β[pS9 GSK-3β(Serine 9 phosphorylation)] is known to trigger Wnt/β-catenin signal cascade but its clinicohistopathological implications in bladder carcinogenesis remain unknown.AIM To investigate the diagnostic and prognostic relevance of expressions of pS9 GSK-3β, β-catenin and its target genes in the pathobiology of bladder cancer.METHODS Bladder tumor tissues from ninety patients were analyzed for quantitative expression and cellular localization of pS9 GSK-3β by immunohistochemical(IHC) staining. Real time-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and IHC were done to check the expression of β-catenin, Cyclin D1, Snail and Slug at transcriptome and protein level respectively. Clinicohistopathological variables were obtained from histology reports, follow up and OPD visits of patients.Expressions of the markers were statistically correlated with these variables to determine their significance in clinical setting. Results were analysed using SPSS20.0 software.RESULTS Aberrant(low or no membranous/high nuclear/high cytoplasmic) expression of pS9 GSK-3β was noted in 51% patients and found to be significantly associated with tumor stage and tumor grade(P = 0.01 and 0.04; Mann Whitney U test).Thirty one percent tumors exhibited aberrant co-expression of pS9 GSK-3β andβ–catenin proteins and showed strong statistical association with tumor stage,tumor type, smoking/tobacco chewing status(P = 0.01, 0.02 and 0.04, MannWhitney U test) and shorter overall survival probabilities of patients(P = 0.02;Kaplan Meier test). Nuclear immunostaining of Cyclin D1 in tumors with altered pS9 GSK-3β/β–catenin showed relevance with tumor stage, grade and type.CONCLUSIONβ–catenin and pS9 GSK-3β proteins are identified as markers of diagnostic/prognostic significance in disease pathogenesis. | 9 | Preparation of NiFe_2O_4 nanopowder via EDTA precursor and study of its properties显示文摘An ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) precursor-based chemical method is reported for preparing single-phase nickel ferrite (NiFe 2 O 4 ) nanopowder. The synthesized powder was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, particle size analysis and scanning electron microscopy. DC electrical resistivity and magnetic property of the syn- thesized NiFe 2 O 4 were measured by using a two-probe method and a vibrating sample magnetometer respectively. The DC resistivity behaviour of the NiFe 2 O 4 nanopowder was correlated with the change of microstructure, during sintering. | 19 | Study on Phase Change Material in Grooved Bricks for Energy Efficiency of the Buildings显示文摘Phase change materials(PCMs)are an interesting technology due to their high density and isothermal behavior during phase change.Phase change material plays a major role in the energy saving of the buildings,which is greatly aided by the incorporation of phase change material into building products such as bricks,cement,gypsum board,etc.In this study,an experiment has been conducted with three identical small chambers made up of normal,grooved and PCM-treated grooved bricks.Before the inclusion of PCM in grooved bricks,PCM material behavior has been studied by different techniques such as DSC,TG/DTA,SEM,and XRD.Thermal properties and thermal stability were investigated by differential scanning calorimeter(DSC)and thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA)respectively.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and X-ray diffraction(XRD)were used to determine the microstructure and crystalloid phase of the PCM before and after the accelerated thermal cycling test(0,60,120).These three identical model rooms built were exposed at a temperature just above 40°C with a heater.When the maximum outdoor temperature was 40-41°C,then the temperature of the PCM-treated grooved chamber was 32-33°C.The PCM-treated wall was tested and compared with a conventional and grooved wall.The difference between the PCM-treated grooved chamber and the untreated one was 8-9°C.PCM-treated bricks provided more efficient internal heat retention in summer when the outside temperature increased. | Niharika Pawar Yasmeen Qureshi Rachit Agarwal Srinivasarao Naik B | 2023 | Journal of Architectural Environment & Structural Engineering Research2023,6,2: | 0 |
| 20 | Effects of the type of forest alteration on gross nitrogen mineralization in soils of southern India显示文摘Change in land-use practices can result in major shifts in the cycling of various elements,particularly nitrogen(N),which is prone to anthropogenic perturbations.For quantifying these shifts,accurate measurements of rates of biogeochemical transformations of N are needed.We used the(^(15)N) isotope dilution technique to understand the effects of the types of forest alteration on(N) transformation rates by comparing gross N mineralization and ammonium(NH_(4)^(+)) consumption rates in soils of a managed forest,an unmanaged forest,and a rubber plantation in Kerala,India.Overall,nitrate(NO_3~-) dominated soils of the managed and unmanaged forests,whereas soils in the rubber plantation showed relatively higher NH_(4)^(+) concentration.Total N(TN) and total organic carbon(TOC) concentrations were the highest under the rubber canopy(TN:1.49±0.02 mg N g^(-1);TOC:7.96±0.86 mg C g^(-1)).In soils of all three forest types,gross N mineralization rates were higher compared to NH_(4)^(+) consumption rates.Despite high TN and TOC concentrations,the rates of gross N mineralization and NH_(4)^(+) consumption were considerably lower in the rubber plantation(mineralization:1.08±0.08 mg N kg^(-1)d^(-1);consumption:0.85±0.09 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-)) compared to the managed(mineralization:3.71±0.35 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-1);consumption:2.20±1.41 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-1)) and unmanaged(mineralization:2.20±1.07 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-1);consumption:1.39±0.27 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-1)) forests.The lower NH_(4)^(+) consumption rates in the rubber plantation led to significantly higher(p<0.05) residence time of NH_(4)^(+)(~4 days) compared to the managed and unmanaged forests(<2 days),possibly contributing to acidification of rubber soils(pH~4.8).These results together suggest that replacement of naturally grown forests with a mono-cropped plantation such as rubber negatively impact rates of N transformation processes in tropical soils and imply that change in tree species composition of naturally grown forests can adversely affect soil microbial activity.We recommend intercropping these plantations with commercial crops to maintain soil microbial diversity and biogeochemical cycling for sustainable forest management. | Niharika Sharma Sanjeev Kumar | 2021 | Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,4: | 0 |
