| 1 | Development of a least squares support vector machine model for prediction of natural gas hydrate formation temperature显示文摘Hydrates always are considered as a threat to petroleum industry due to the operational problems it can cause.These problems could result in reducing production performance or even production stoppage for a long time.In this paper, we were intended to develop a LSSVM algorithm for prognosticating hydrate formation temperature(HFT) in a wide range of natural gas mixtures. A total number of 279 experimental data points were extracted from open literature to develop the LSSVM. The input parameters were chosen based on the hydrate structure that each gas species form. The modeling resulted in a robust algorithm with the squared correlation coefficients(R^2) of 0.9918. Aside from the excellent statistical parameters of the model, comparing proposed LSSVM with some of conventional correlations showed its supremacy, particularly in the case of sour gases with high H_2S concentrations, where the model surpasses all correlations and existing thermodynamic models. For detection of the probable doubtful experimental data, and applicability of the model, the Leverage statistical approach was performed on the data sets. | 2 | Complementary and alternative medicine use in Iranian patients with diabetes mellitus显示文摘OBJECTIVE: There is increasing interest in complementary and alternative medicine generally, and especially by those affected by chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus. We aimed to determine the prevalence and pattern of complementary and alternative medicine use among patients suffering from diabetes mellitus in Shiraz, southern Iran. Another objective was to explore associated factors for use of complementary and alternative medicine among patients with diabetes mellitus.METHODS: A 19-item semi-structured questionnaire(open- and close-ended) was administered to 239 patients with diabetes mellitus in this cross-sectional study. It was carried out in two outpatient diabetes clinics affiliated with the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran.RESULTS: One hundred and eighty patients(75.3%) used at least one type of complementary and alternative medicine in the last year prior to the interview. Patients with diabetes mellitus who were living in a large family(≥ 5 members), not taking insulin, and believed that complementary and alternative medicine have synergistic effects with conventional medicine, were independently and significantly(P values: 0.02, 0.04, and 0.01, respectively) more likely to use complementary and alternative medicine. Most of the users(97.7%) reported use of herbal preparations, and 89.4% of users did not change their medication, neither in medication schedule nor its dosage.CONCLUSION: The use of complementary and alternative medicine, especially herbal remedies, is popular among diabetes patients in Shiraz, Iran. | 3 | A robust predictive tool for estimating CO2 solubility in potassium based amino acid salt solutions显示文摘The acid gas absorption in four potassium based amino acid salt solutions was predicted using artificial neural network(ANN). Two hundred fifty-five experimental data points for CO_2 absorption in the four potassium based amino acid salt solutions containing potassium lysinate, potassium prolinate, potassium glycinate, and potassium taurate were used in this modeling. Amine salt solution's type, temperature, equilibrium partial pressure of acid gas, the molar concentration of the solution, molecular weight, and the boiling point were considered as inputs to ANN to prognosticate the capacity of amino acid salt solution to absorb acid gas. Regression analysis was employed to assess the performance of the network. Levenberg–Marquardt back-propagation algorithm was used to train the optimal ANN with 5:12:1 architecture. | 5 | Effects of cross-anisotropy and stress-dependency of pavement layers on pavement responses under dynamic truck loading显示文摘Previous studies by the authors have determined pavement responses under dynamic loading considering cross-anisotropy in one layer only,either the cross-anisotropic viscoelastic asphalt concrete(AC)layer or the cross-anisotropic stress-dependent base layer,but not both.This study evaluates pavement stressestrain responses considering cross-anisotropy in all layers,i.e.AC,base and subbase,using finite element modeling(FEM) technique.An instrumented pavement section on Interstate I-40 near Albuquerque,New Mexico was used in ABAQUS framework as model geometry.Field asphalt cores were collected and tested in the laboratory to determine the cross-anisotropy(n-values) defined by horizontal to vertical modulus ratio,and other viscoelastic parameters as inputs of the model incorporated through user defined material interface(UMAT) functionality in ABAQUS.Field base and subbase materials were also collected and tested in the laboratory to determine stress-dependent nonlinear elastic model parameters,as inputs of the model,again incorporated through UMAT.The model validation task was carried out using field-measured deflections and strain values under falling weight deflectometer(FWD)loads at the instrumented section.The validated model was then subjected to an actual truck loading for studying cross-anisotropic effects.It was observed that horizontal tensile strain at the bottom of the AC layer and vertical strains in all layers decreased with an increase in n-value of the asphalt layer,from n<1(anisotropy) to n=1(isotropy).This indicates that the increase in horizontal modulus caused the decrease in layer strains.It was also observed that if the base and subbase layers were considered stressdependent instead of linear elastic unbound layers,the horizontal tensile strain at the bottom of the asphalt layer increased and vertical strains on top of the base and subbase also increased. | Rafiqul A.Tarefder Mesbah U.Ahmed Asifur Rahman | 2016 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,3: | 2 |
| 6 | Induction of sub-G0 arrest and apoptosis by seed extract of Moringa peregrina(Forssk.) Fiori in cervical and prostate cancer cell lines显示文摘Objective: This study investigated cytotoxicity and induction of apoptosis in human cervical cancer cells(HELA) and prostate cancer cells(PC-3) using the most active fraction of Moringa peregrina seed extract.Methods: Dried and powdered seeds were extracted using 95% ethanol. The total ethanolic extract was further dissolved in distilled water and separated into petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts. Based on the results of in vitro anticancer studies of all extracts, the most highly active extract was selected for evaluation of apoptosis induction and cell cycle analysis on HELA and PC-3 cells at its half maximal inhibitory concentration using flow cytometry;DNA fragmentation by agarose gel electrophoresis and the expression of protein were measured by Western blot.Results: The chloroform fraction from the ethanolic extract of M. peregrina(CFEE) was the most active antitumor fraction. The selectivity index, determined using the normal Vero cell line, indicated that CFEE had a high degree of selectivity against HELA and PC-3 cells. CFEE induced apoptosis, confirmed by cell cycle arrest at sub-G0 phase and DNA fragmentation. CFEE induced an increase in mRNA expression of caspase-3, a decrease in Bcl-2 mRNA expression, and decreased ATP levels. CFEE increased protein expression of caspase-3 and decreased protein expression of poly-ADP-ribose polymerase-1(PARP-1).Flow cytometric analysis showed an appreciable increase in the number of cells in the early apoptotic stage in CFEE-treated HELA and PC-3 cells.
