1Angiographic findings of gastrointestinal stromal tumor显示文摘AIM: To discuss the angiographic features of gastrointestinastromal tumor (GIST) and to evaluate their diagnostic role.METHODS: Twelve patients with pathologically proved GISTunderwent angiography (DSA)I wk before operation, usingPuck and digital subtraction DSA. The origin, size, morphologyand angiographic appearance of the lesions were reviewed.RESULTS: Two tumors arose from stomach, 8 from jejunum,and 2 from ileum. Seven cases were benign and 5 weremalignant. Obviously thickened supplying arteries weredetected in 8 tumors, and early-developed veins were foundin 3. Two types of angiographic changes of GIST were observed.Four cases had twisted irregular neoplastic vessels withpartially coarse and indistinct margins, which were allmalignant. 2Selectivity enhancement of quaternized poly(arylene ether ketone)membranes by ion segregation for vanadium redox flow batteries显示文摘Quaternary ammonium densely functionalized octa-benzylmethyl-containing poly(arylene ether ketone)s(QA-OMPAEKs) with ion exchange capacities(IECs) ranging from 1.23 to 2.21 mmol g^(-1) were synthesized from:(1) Ullmann coupling extension of tetra-benzylmethyl-containing bisphenol A;(2) condensation polymerization with activated dihalide in the presence of K_2CO_3;(3) selective bromination using N-bromosuccinimide; and(4) quantitative quaternization using trimethylamine. Both smallangle X-ray scattering(SAXS) and transmission electron microscope(TEM) characterizations revealed distinct nano-phase separation in QA-OMPAEKs as a result of the dense quaternization. The QA-OMPAEK-20 with an IEC of 1.98 mmol g^(-1) exhibited a high SO_4^(2-) conductivity of 11.4 mS cm^(-1) and a low VO^(2+) permeability of 0.06×10^(-12) m^2 s^(-1) at room temperature,leading to a dramatically higher ion selectivity than Nafion N212. Consequently, the vanadium redox flow battery(VRFB)assembled with QA-OMPAEK-20 achieved a Coulombic efficiency of 96.9% and an energy efficiency of 84.8% at a current density of 50 mA cm^(-2), which were much higher than those of the batteries assembled with Nafion N212 and a home-made control membrane without distinct nano-phase separation. 3Tetra-alkylsulfonate functionalized poly(aryl ether) membranes with nanosized hydrophilic channels for efficient proton conduction显示文摘The microstructure of polymer electrolyte membranes plays a key role in ion conductivity and water transport.Herein,fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s with tetra-alkylsulfonate side chains(SFPAEs)have been successfully synthesized from the copolymerization of a newly developed tetra-allyl-containing bisphenol(TABP)monomer,followed by the thiol-ene addition with sodium 3-mercapto-1-propanesulfonate to attach the ionic groups at the end of the flexible chains.Being the first of its kind,the densely distributed and lengthy alkylsulfonate group possesses the benefit of ease to self-assemble into hydrophilic domains during membrane preparation via solution casting.Indeed,the TEM characterizations revealed that distinct hydrophilic channels of 1-2 nm width had been formed,much larger than those of a home-made control sample where only di-alkylsulfonate side chains were attached.The SFPAE-4-45 with an IECw of 2.0 mmol g^-1 exhibited an enhanced proton conductivity of 143.7 m S cm^-1 at room temperature,which was superior to that of Nafion 212(91.0 m S cm^-1).Furthermore,the oxidative stabilities of SFPAEs were significantly higher than those of non-fluorinated analogs in literature.This study offered a new route to engineering the pendent structure of ionomers for well-defined microscopic morphologies.Lijun Zhou Junyang Zhu Meijin Lin Jiaqi Xu Zailai Xie Dongyang Chen 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,1:4
4Advances in high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance methods in inhomogeneous magnetic fields using intermolecular multiple quantum coherences显示文摘Strong and extremely homogeneous static magnetic field is usually required for high-resolution nu-clear magnetic resonance (NMR). However, in the cases of in vivo and so on, the magnetic field inho-mogeneity owing to magnetic susceptibility variation in samples is unavoidable and hard to eliminate by conventional methods such as shimming. Recently, intermolecular multiple quantum coherences (iMQCs) have been employed to eliminate inhomogeneous broadening and obtain high-resolution NMR spectra, especially for in vivo samples. Compared to other high-resolution NMR methods, iMQC method exhibits its unique feature and advantage. It simultaneously holds information of chemical shifts, multiplet structures, coupling constants, and relative peak areas. All the information is often used to analyze and characterize molecular structures in conventional one-dimensional NMR spec-troscopy. 5Advances in engineered Bacillus subtilis biofilms and spores, and their applications in bioremediation, biocatalysis, and biomaterials显示文摘Bacillus subtilis is a commonly used commercial specie with broad applications in the fields of bioengineering and biotechnology.B.subtilis is capable of producing both biofilms and spores.Biofilms are matrix-encased multicellular communities that comprise various components including exopolysaccharides,proteins,extracellular DNA,and poly-γ-glutamic acid.These biofilms resist environmental conditions such as oxidative stress and hence have applications in bioremediation technologies.Furthermore,biofilms and spores can be engineered through biotechnological techniques for environmentally-friendly and safe production of bio-products such as enzymes.The ability to withstand with harsh conditions and producing spores makes Bacillus a suitable candidate for surface display technology.In recent years,the spores of such specie are widely used as it is generally regarded as safe to use.Advances in synthetic biology have enabled the reprogramming of biofilms to improve their functions and enhance the production of value-added products.Globally,there is increased interest in the production of engineered biosensors,biocatalysts,and biomaterials.The elastic modulus and gel properties of B.subtilis biofilms have been utilized to develop living materials.This review outlines the formation of B.subtilis biofilms and spores.Biotechnological engineering processes and their increasing application in bioremediation and biocatalysis,as well as the future directions of B.subtilis biofilm engineering,are discussed.Furthermore,the ability of B.subtilis biofilms and spores to fabricate functional living materials with self-regenerating,self-regulating and environmentally responsive characteristics has been summarized.This review aims to resume advances in biological engineering of B.subtilis biofilms and spores and their applications.Muhammad Zubair Mohsin Rabia Omer Jiaofang Huang Ali Mohsin Meijin Guo Jiangchao Qian Yingping Zhuang 2021Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2021,6,3:2

10Light control of droplets on photo-induced charged surfaces显示文摘The manipulation of droplets plays a vital role in fundamental research and practical applications,from chemical reactions to bioanalysis.As an intriguing and active format,light control of droplets,typically induced by photochemistry,photomechanics,light-induced Marangoni effects or light-induced electric fields,enables remote and contactless control with remarkable spatial and temporal accuracy.However,current light control of droplets suffers from poor performance and limited reliability.Here we develop a new superamphiphobic material that integrates the dual merits of light and electric field by rationally preparing liquid metal particles/poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene)polymer composites with photo-induced charge generation capability in real time,enabling light control of droplets on the basis of photo-induced dielectrophoretic force.We demonstrate that this photo-induced charged surface(PICS)imparts a new paradigm for controllable droplet motion,including high average velocity(~35.9 mm s^(-1)),unlimited distance,multimode motions(e.g.forward,backward and rotation)and single-to-multiple droplet manipulation,which are otherwise unachievable in conventional strategies.We further extend light control of droplets to robotic and bio-applications,including transporting a solid cargo in a closed tube,crossing a tiny tunnel,avoiding obstacles,sensing the changing environment via naked-eye color shift,preparing hydrogel beads,transporting living cells and reliable biosensing.Our PICS not only provides insight into the development of new smart interface materials and microfluidics,but also brings new possibilities for chemical and biomedical applications.Fang Wang Meijin Liu Cong Liu Chao Huang Lidong Zhang Anyang Cui Zhigao Hu Xuemin Du 2023National Science Review2023,10,1:1

12Autographa Californica Multiple Nucleopolyhedrovirus P48(Ac103) Is Required for the Efficient Formation of Virus-Induced Intranuclear Microvesicles显示文摘Our previous study has shown that the Autographa californica multiple nudeopolyhedrovirus(AcMNPV)p48(acl03)gene is essential for the nuclear egress of nucleocapsids and the formation of occlusion-derived virions(ODVs).However,the exact role of p48 in the morphogenesis of ODVs remains unknown.In this study,we demonstrated that p48 was required for the efficient formation of intranuclear microvesicles.To further understand its functional role in intranuclear microvesicle formation,we characterized the distribution of the P48 protein,which was found to be associated with the nucleocapsid and envelope fractions of both budded virions and ODVs.In AcMNPV-infected cells,P48 was predominantly localized to nucleocapsids in the virogenic stroma and the nucleocapsids enveloped in ODVs,with a limited but discernible distribution in the plasma membrane,nuclear envelope,intranuclear microvesicles,and ODV envelope.Furthermore,coimmunoprecipitation assays showed that among the viral proteins required for intranuclear microvesicle formation,F48 associated with Ac93 in the absence of viral infection.Yan Wang Qingyun Cai Jiannan Chen Zhihong Huang Wenbi Wu Meijin Yuan Kai Yang 2019Virologica Sinica2019,34,6:1

17Introduction of temperature-sensitive helper and donor plasmids into Bac-to-Bac baculovirus expression systems显示文摘In the baculovirus shuttle vector(bacmid) system, a helper plasmid and a donor plasmid are employed to insert heterologous genes into a cloned baculovirus genome via Tn7 transposition in Escherichia coli. The helper and donor plasmids are usually cotransfected with constructed bacmids into insect cells, which will lead to integration of these plasmids into the viral genome,and hence to the production of defective virions. In this study, to facilitate the preparation of plasmid-free recombinant bacmids, we modified a set of helper and donor plasmids by replacing their replication origins with that of a temperature-sensitive(ts) plasmid, p SIM6. Using the resulting ts helper plasmid p MON7124 ts and the ts donor plasmid p FB1ts-PH-GFP, a recombinant bacmid,b Ac WT-PG(-), was constructed, and the transposition efficiency was found to be 33.1%. The plasmids were then removed by culturing at 37 °C. For b Ac WT-PG(-), the infectious progeny virus titer and the protein expression level under the control of the polyhedrin promoter were similar to those of a bacmid constructed with unmodified helper and donor plasmids. 19High-throughput“read-on-ski”automated imaging and label-free detection system for toxicity screening of compounds using personalised human kidney organoids显示文摘Organoid models are used to study kidney physiology,such as the assessment of nephrotoxicity and underlying disease processes.Personalized human pluripotent stem cell-derived kidney organoids are ideal models for compound toxicity studies,but there is a need to accelerate basic and translational research in the field.Here,we developed an automated continuous imaging setup with the“read-on-ski”law of control to maximize temporal resolution with minimum culture plate vibration.High-accuracy performance was achieved:organoid screening and imaging were performed at a spatial resolution of 1.1µm for the entire multi-well plate under 3 min.We used the in-house developed multi-well spinning device and cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity model to evaluate the toxicity in kidney organoids using this system.The acquired images were processed via machine learning-based classification and segmentation algorithms,and the toxicity in kidney organoids was determined with 95%accuracy.The results obtained by the automated“read-on-ski”imaging device,combined with label-free and non-invasive algorithms for detection,were verified using conventional biological procedures.Taking advantage of the close-to-in vivo-kidney organoid model,this new development opens the door for further application of scaled-up screening using organoids in basic research and drug discovery.Qizheng WANG Jun LU Ke FAN Yiwei XU Yucui XIONG Zhiyong SUN Man ZHAI Zhizhong ZHANG Sheng ZHANG Yan SONG Jianzhong LUO Mingliang YOU Meijin GUO Xiao ZHANG 2022Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2022,23,7:0
20The impact of vertical π-extension on redox mechanisms of aromatic diimide dyes显示文摘Aromatic diimide dyes are an attractive class of redox-active organic molecules for lithium-ion batteries,whose battery performances(stabilities,conductivities and cyclicities) are strongly dependent on the sizes of their π-systems.However,due to the different Clar’s structures possessed,three vertically7 r-extended aromatic diimides,namely,naphthalene diimide(two one-electron reductions),perylene diimide and terrylene diimide(two one-electron reductions),exhibit different electronic redox mechanisms when served as cathode materials in organic lithium-ion batteries.Herein,we have studied carefully the different electrochemical characteristics of the three aromatic diimides through experimental and theoretical calculations.Their battery present different shape of charge/discharge curves resulting from stability of their reduction state during charge/discharge process.Terrylene diimide shows better cycle and rate capacities than those of naphthalene diimide and perylene diimide,which could be attributed to the more energies released during terrylene diimide combining with lithium ions than those of other two diimides.Lei Li Juejun Wang Mengting Chen Yong Chen Wangchuan Xiao Dongyang Chen Meijin Lin 2019Chinese Chemical Letters2019,30,12:0
