| 1 | Biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)by fungal enzymes:A review显示文摘Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) are a large group of chemicals.They represent an important concern due to their widespread distribution in the environment,their resistance to biodegradation,their potential to bioaccumulate and their harmful effects.Several pilot treatments have been implemented to prevent economic consequences and deterioration of soil and water quality.As a promising option,fungal enzymes are regarded as a powerful choice for degradation of PAHs.Phanerochaete chrysosporium,Pleurotus ostreatus and Bjerkandera adusta are most commonly used for the degradation of such compounds due to their production of ligninolytic enzymes such as lignin peroxidase,manganese peroxidase and laccase.The rate of biodegradation depends on many culture conditions,such as temperature,oxygen,accessibility of nutrients and agitated or shallow culture.Moreover,the addition of biosurfactants can strongly modify the enzyme activity.The removal of PAHs is dependent on the ionization potential.The study of the kinetics is not completely comprehended,and it becomes more challenging when fungi are applied for bioremediation.Degradation studies in soil are much more complicated than liquid cultures because of the heterogeneity of soil,thus,many factors should be considered when studying soil bioremediation,such as desorption and bioavailability of PAHs.Different degradation pathways can be suggested.The peroxidases are heme-containing enzymes having common catalytic cycles.One molecule of hydrogen peroxide oxidizes the resting enzyme withdrawing two electrons.Subsequently,the peroxidase is reduced back in two steps of one electron oxidation.Laccases are copper-containing oxidases.They reduce molecular oxygen to water and oxidize phenolic compounds. | Tayssir Kadri Tarek Rouissi Satinder Kaur Brar Maximiliano Cledon Saurabhjyoti Sarma Mausam Verma | 2017 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,1: | 19 |
| 2 | Radiofrequency ablation vs surgical resection in elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma in Milan criteria显示文摘BACKGROUND Surgical resection and radiofrequency ablation(RFA)represent two possible strategy in treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in Milan criteria.AIM To evaluate short-and long-term outcome in elderly patients(>70 years)with HCC in Milan criteria,which underwent liver resection(LR)or RFA.METHODS The study included 594 patients with HCC in Milan criteria(429 in LR group and 165 in RFA group)managed in 10 European centers.Statistical analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method before and after propensity score matching(PSM)and Cox regression.RESULTS After PSM,we compared 136 patients in the LR group with 136 patients in the RFA group.Overall survival at 1,3,and 5 years was 91%,80%,and 76%in the LR group and 97%,67%,and 41%in the RFA group respectively(P=0.001).Diseasefree survival at 1,3,and 5 years was 84%,60%and 44%for the LR group,and 63%,36%,and 25%for the RFA group(P=0.001).Postoperative Clavien-Dindo IIIIV complications were lower in the RFA group(1%vs 11%,P=0.001)in association with a shorter length of stay(2 d vs 7 d,P=0.001).In multivariate analysis,Model for End-stage Liver Disease(MELD)score(>10)[odds ratio(OR)=1.89],increased value of international normalized ratio(>1.3)(OR=1.60),treatment with radiofrequency(OR=1.46),and multiple nodules(OR=1.19)were independent predictors of a poor overall survival while a high MELD score(>10)(OR=1.51)and radiofrequency(OR=1.37)were independent factors associated with a higher recurrence rate.CONCLUSION Despite a longer length of stay and a higher rate of severe postoperative complications,surgery provided better results in long-term oncological outcomes as compared to ablation in elderly patients(>70 years)with HCC in Milan criteria. | Maria Conticchio Riccardo Inchingolo Antonella Delvecchio Letizia Laera Francesca Ratti Maximiliano Gelli Ferdinando Anelli Alexis Laurent Giulio Vitali Paolo Magistri Giacomo Assirati Emanuele Felli Taiga Wakabayashi Patrick Pessaux Tullio Piardi Fabrizio di Benedetto Nicola de'Angelis Javier Briceño AntonioRampoldi RenèAdam Daniel Cherqui Luca Antonio Aldrighetti Riccardo Memeo | 2021 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,18: | 4 |
| 3 | Potential Use of a Poultry Manure Digestate as a Biofertiliser:Evaluation of Soil Properties and Lactuca sativa Growth显示文摘Anaerobic digestion is a process that is widely used for the treatment of organic wastes. The digestate can be used as a soil amendment or crop fertiliser. The aims of our work were to evaluate 1) the physicochemical composition and pathogen content in a digestate from poultry manure, according to international regulations, and 2) the effect of its soil application on the major chemical and biological soil properties and on the growth of Lactuca sativa. The experiment consisted of two groups of pots(with and without crop). Treatments applied to each group were as follows: low and high doses of digestate and inorganic fertiliser, and no application(control)(low dose: 70 kg nitrogen(N) ha^(-1) and 21 kg phosphorus(P) ha^(-1); high dose: 210 kg N ha^(-1) and 63 kg P ha^(-1)). Soil samples were taken 7 and 34 d(harvest) after treatment applications. Heavy metal and pathogen contents in the digestate were below the upper limit values. Despite the high pH and electrical conductivity values of the digestate, both soil parameters presented acceptable values for crop growth. Although there were no initial increases in total inorganic N and available P in soil with digestate application, an increase in the fresh weight of crop was observed with the high dose application. This is probably associated with the slow nutrient release from the digestate during the development of the crop. | 5 | Monolithic LC method applied to fesoterodine fumarate low dose extended-release tablets:Dissolution and release kinetics显示文摘A dissolution test for fesoterodine low dose extended-release tablets using liquid chromatographic(LC) method equipped with a C18 monolithic column was developed and validated. LC system was operated isocratically at controlled temperature(40 1C) using a mobile phase of acetonitrile:methanol:0.03 M ammonium acetate(p H 3.8)(30:15:55, v/v/v), run at a flow rate of 1.5 m L/min and detected at 208 nm. The best dissolution conditions for this formulation were achieved using a USP apparatus 2(paddle) at 100 rpm and 900 m L of phosphate buffer at p H 6.8 as the dissolution medium.Validation parameters such as the specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, and robustness were evaluated according to international guidelines, giving results within the acceptable range. The kinetic parameters of drug release were also investigated using model-dependent methods and the dissolution profiles were best described by the Higuchi model.
