| 1 | Experimental investigation on color variation mechanisms of structural light in Papilio maackii ménétriès butterfly wings显示文摘The body color in animals results from billions of years of their natural evolution in order to evade natural enemies, catch quarries or display themselves beauty, in-vestigation on mechanisms of structural light is an important aspect of bionics. Based on the phenomenon of Papilio maackii ménétriès’ blue scales changing into green ones immediately after dropping some alcohol aqua on the underwing sur-face and soon returning back to the original color, the relationship between micro-structure, optics characteristic of scales and changing color effect were studied using the Olympus Stereomicroscope, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Ultraviolet (UV)-Visible Spectropho-tometer. The color variation mechanisms of blue scales of Papilio maackii mé-nétriès in Chinese Northeast were revealed in this paper. When visible lights trav-eled through the concaver structure with multilayer reflector and the filled medium with different refractive indices, the reflected lights in definite wavelengths pro-duced interference and color at that wavelength came into being. | 2 | Spatial and temporal distributions of nitrogen,phosphorus and heavy metals in the intertidal sediment of the Chang jiang River Estuary in China显示文摘Spatial and temporal distributions of nutrients(N and P) and heavy metals(Cu,Zn,Pb and Cd) in the intertidal sediments at Dongtan wetland of the Changjiang River(Yangtze River) Estuary were examined by laying one transect running seaward to landward during January,April,June,August and October of 2005. Total nitrogen(TN) and heavy metal concentrations in the intertidal sediment showed an increasing trend from open bare flat to the high marsh,with the maximum concentrations in the high marsh and the minimum values in open bare flat. In contrast,sediment total phosphorus(TP) concentrations changed little among sampling sites. One-way ANOVA found that there were significantly temporal variations of nutrients and heavy metals concentrations in the intertidal sediment(P <0.05) . The concentrations of heavy metals generally showed an increasing trend from January to October. | 3 | Microstructure and structural color in wing scales of butterfly Thaumantis diores显示文摘The butterfly Thaumantis diores is a species in the Northeast of China. There are two kinds of scales on its wings, which overlap like roof tiles and completely cover the membrane. The SEM results showed that only Type-I scales play a key role in forming the blue structural color. Type-II scales have black chemical color. The cross section micro-configuration of scales is achieved by using the transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The brilliant blue generated through the multilayer microstructure is explained by the photonic crystal reason. The multilayer microstructure of the ridges is optimized to 1D Bragg stack for simulation. The reflectivity of the wing is measured by a spectrometer, and the experimental graph accord with the simulation curves basically. When this species fly, the wing's color and brightness can change because of the transform between structural color and chemical color. | 7 | Water-trapping and drag-reduction effects of fish Ctenopharyngodon idellus scales and their simulations显示文摘In the last decades, surface drag reduction has been re-emphasized because of its practical values in engineering applications,including vehicles, aircrafts, ships, and fuel pipelines. The bionic study of drag reduction has been attracting scholars' attentions. Here, it was determined that the delicate microstructures on the scales of the fish Ctenopharyngodon idellus exhibit remarkable drag-reduction effect. In addition, the underlying drag-reduction mechanism was carefully investigated. First,exceptional morphologies and structures of the scales were observed and measured using a scanning electron microscope and3-dimensional(3D) microscope. Then, based on the acquired data, optimized 3D models were created. Next, the mechanism of the water-trapping effect of these structures was analyzed through numerical simulations and theoretical calculations. It was determined that there are many microcrescent units with certain distributions on its surface. In fact, these crescents are effective in generating the 'water-trapping' effect and forming a fluid-lubrication film, thus reducing the skin friction drag effectively.Contrasting to a smooth surface, the dynamics finite-element analysis indicated that the maximum drag-reduction rate of a bionic surface is 3.014% at 0.66 m/s flow rate. | 10 | Cross-Target Transfer Algorithm Based on the Volterra Model of SSVEP-BCI显示文摘In general, a large amount of training data can effectively improve the classification performance of the Steady-State Visually Evoked Potential(SSVEP)-based Brain-Computer Interface(BCI) system. However, it will prolong the training time and considerably restrict the practicality of the system. This study proposed a SSVEP nonlinear signal model based on the Volterra filter, which could reconstruct stable reference signals using relatively small number of training targets by transfer learning, thereby reducing the training cost of SSVEP-BCI. Moreover,this study designed a transfer-extended Canonical Correlation Analysis(t-eCCA) method based on the model to achieve cross-target transfer. As a result, in a single-target SSVEP experiment with 16 stimulus frequencies,t-eCCA obtained an average accuracy of 86.96%˙12.87% across 12 subjects using only half of the calibration time,which exhibited no significant difference from the representative training classification algorithms, namely, extended canonical correlation analysis(88.32%±13.97%) and task-related component analysis(88.92%±14.44%), and was significantly higher than that of the classic non-training algorithms, namely, Canonical Correlation Analysis(CCA) as well as filter-bank CCA. | 12 | Prognostic factors in patients with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer显示文摘Objective: To investigate the prognostic factors for stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with distant metas- tasis and establish a reliable model of clinical prognostic index. Methods: From January 1990 to April 2005, 313 primary NSCLC patients with metastasis, who had been treated in Shanghai Chest Hospital, were reviewed. Survival time was estimated accord- ing to the Kaplan-Meier method. Cox proportional hazard regression model was used for multivariate analysis. Results: Among the 313 cases of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at stage IV, there were 218 and 95 patients with metastasis to single and different organs, respectively. The overall median survival time for all 313 cases of NSCLC patients was 10.8 (9.00, 12.30) months and the overall 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-year survival rate was 45%, 18%, 12%, 4% and 0%. There were 63, 174, 127, 36, 18, 11 and 5 patients with metastasis to brain (20.13%), bone (55.59%), lung (40.58%), liver (11.50%), adrenal gland (5.75%), subcutaneous (3.51%) and others, respectively. The survival time was shortest in subcutaneous metastasis (4.6 months), and liver 7.0 months, brain 8.0 months, adrenal gland 8.6 months, bone 10.6 months, lung 11.8 months. Kaplan-Meier estimation showed that patients anatomic typing, KPS, numbers of organ with metastasis, appetite, liver, adrenal gland and subcutane- ous metastasis, body weight loss, smoking, index of smoking, chemotherapy, cycles of chemotherapy were the predictors of survival. Multivariate analysis showed survival statistically significant correlation with anatomic typing, KPS, appetite, liver and subcutaneous metastasis, body weight loss, cycles of chemotherapy. The relative risk (RR) was 1.51, 1.97, 1.55, 1.67, 2.56, and 2.56 respectively. Conclusion: Survival time decreases distinctly in patients who had distant metastasis to more than two different organs (P<0.01). Bone is the commonest organ for distant metastasis in lung cancer. The prognosis is poor when lung cancer appears subcutaneous metastasis and liver metastasis.
