| 3 | Personalized surgical recommendations and quantitative therapeutic insights for patients with metastatic breast cancer: Insights from deep learning显示文摘Background:The role of surgery in metastatic breast cancer(MBC)is currently controversial.Several novel statistical and deep learning(DL)methods promise to infer the suitability of surgery at the individual level.Objective:The objective of this study was to identify the most applicable DL model for determining patients with MBC who could benefit from surgery and the type of surgery required.Methods:We introduced the deep survival regression with mixture effects(DSME),a semi-parametric DL model integrating three causal inference methods.Six models were trained to make individualized treatment recommendations.Patients who received treatments in line with the DL models'recommendations were compared with those who underwent treatments divergent from the recommendations.Inverse probability weighting(IPW)was used to minimize bias.The effects of various features on surgery selection were visualized and quantified using multivariate linear regression and causal inference.Results:In total,5269 female patients with MBC were included.DSME was an independent protective factor,outperforming other models in recommending surgery(IPW-adjusted hazard ratio[HR]=0.39,95%confidence interval[CI]:0.19–0.78)and type of surgery(IPW-adjusted HR=0.66,95%CI:0.48–0.93).DSME was superior to other models and traditional guidelines,suggesting a higher proportion of patients benefiting from surgery,especially breast-conserving surgery.The debiased effect of patient characteristics,including age,tumor size,metastatic sites,lymph node status,and breast cancer subtypes,on surgery decision was also quantified.Conclusions:Our findings suggested that DSME could effectively identify patients with MBC likely to benefit from surgery and the specific type of surgery needed.This method can facilitate the development of efficient,reliable treatment recommendation systems and provide quantifiable evidence for decision-making. | Enzhao Zhu Linmei Zhang Jiayi Wang Chunyu Hu Qi Jing Weizhong Shi Ziqin Xu Pu Ai Zhihao Dai Dan Shan Zisheng Ai | 2024 | Cancer Innovation2024,3,3: | 0 |
| 4 | TaVNS reduces inflammatory responses in a L-NAME-induced rat model of pre-eclampsia显示文摘Pre-eclampsia is characterized by an excessive maternal inflammatory response.The cholinergic antiinflammatory pathway(CAP)has been shown as the efferent arm of a vagal reflex with the potential to limit inflammatory responses.Therefore,in this study,the CAP regulation through the nervous vagal stimulation(VNS)reduced the severity of NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester(L-NAME)-induced pre-eclampsia was determined in a rat model.Rats were given 125 mg/kg/day of L-NAME via subcutaneous injection on gestational day(GD)10–16.In addition,the rats were treated by active or sham electrical stimulation once a day during GD 13–19.Systolic blood pressure(SBP),urinary albumin,and pregnancy outcomes were documented for each rat.The average fetal weights and crown-rump length(CRL)as well as the placental weights of rats in both control and experimental groups were recorded onthe 13th day,16th day and 20th day of gestation.Subsequently,placentas were collected from the rats on GD20 to measure the level of cytokines.In addition,qRT-PCR and Western blot analysis were used to detect the mRNA and protein expression ofα7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor(α7nAChR)and nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB),respectively.Immunohistochemistry assays were also carried out to determine the location and level ofα7nAChR and NF-κB in placentas.CAP regulation through the transcutaneous auricular nerve stimulation alleviated the clinical symptoms in the rats after L-NAME induction,including hypertension,proteinuria,fetal growth retardation and fetal death.In addition,TaVNS also increasedα7nAChR expression,reduced NF-κB p65 expression,and reversed LNAME-induced proinflammatory cytokines in the placenta tissues,including tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),high mobility group box 1(HMGB-1)and interleukin-6(IL-6).The findings of this study showed that TaVNS might be used as a promising tool to attenuate pre-eclampsia-like symptoms.In addition,the protective effect of TaVNS was associated with the improvement ofα7nAChR expression and the inhibition of inflammatory reactions at the maternal-fetal interface through activating cholinergic anti-inflammation pathway. | LINMEI ZHENG RONG TANG LEI SHI ZHONGYI ZHOU | 2021 | BIOCELL2021,45,5: | 0 |
| 5 | Entity set expansion in knowledge graph:a heterogeneous information network perspective显示文摘Entity set expansion(ESE)aims to expand an entity seed set to obtain more entities which have common properties.ESE is important for many applications such as dictionary con-struction and query suggestion.Traditional ESE methods relied heavily on the text and Web information of entities.Recently,some ESE methods employed knowledge graphs(KGs)to extend entities.However,they failed to effectively and fficiently utilize the rich semantics contained in a KG and ignored the text information of entities in Wikipedia.In this paper,we model a KG as a heterogeneous information network(HIN)containing multiple types of objects and relations.Fine-grained multi-type meta paths are proposed to capture the hidden relation among seed entities in a KG and thus to retrieve candidate entities.Then we rank the entities according to the meta path based structural similarity.Furthermore,to utilize the text description of entities in Wikipedia,we propose an extended model CoMeSE++which combines both structural information revealed by a KG and text information in Wikipedia for ESE.Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that our model achieves better performance by combining structural and textual information of entities. | Chuan SHI Jiayu DING Xiaohuan CAO Linmei HU Bin WU Xiaoli LI | 2021 | Frontiers of Computer Science2021,15,1: | 0 |
| 6 | Monolithic integrated micro-supercapacitors with ultra-high systemic volumetric performance and areal output voltage显示文摘Monolithic integrated micro-supercapacitors(MIMSCs) with high systemic performance and cell-number density are important for miniaturized electronics to empower the Internet of Things.However,fabrication of customizable MIMSCs in an extremely small space remains a huge challenge considering key factors such as materials selection,electrolyte confinement,microfabrication and device-performance uniformity.Here,we develop a universal and large-throughput microfabrication strategy to address all these issues by combining multistep lithographic patterning,spray printing of MXene micro electrodes and controllable 3D printing of gel electrolytes.We achieve the monolithic integration of electrochemically isolated micro-supercapacitors in close proximity by leveraging high-resolution micropatterning techniques for micro electrode deposition and 3D printing for precise electrolyte deposition.Notably,the MIMSCs obtained demonstrate a high areal-number density of 28 cells cm^(-2)(340 cells on 3.5 × 3.5 cm^(2)),a record areal output voltage of 75.6 V cm^(-2),an acceptable systemic volumetric energy density of 9.8 mWh cm^(-3)and an unprecedentedly high capacitance retention of 92% after 4000 cycles at an extremely high output voltage of 162 V.This work paves the way for monolithic integrated and microscopic energy-storage assemblies for powering future microele ctronics. | Sen Wang Linmei Li Shuanghao Zheng Pratteek Das Xiaoyu Shi Jiaxin Ma Yu Liu Yuanyuan Zhu Yao Lu Zhong-Shuai Wu Hui-Ming Cheng | 2023 | National Science Review2023,10,3: | 0 |
