1Risk factors for cardiovascular disease in the Chinese population:recent progress and implications显示文摘Cardiovascular disease(CVD)is the leading cause of death in both urban and rural areas of China.The current evidence regarding CVD risk factors was primarily established in Western countries,with limited generalizability to the Chinese population.In China,a growing number of population-based prospective cohort studies have emerged that have yielded substantial research data on CVD risk factors in the past five years.The research studies have covered biological risk factors(e.g.,blood lipids,blood pressure,blood glucose,adiposity),lifestyle risk factors(e.g.,smoking,alcohol,diet,physical activity),environmental risk factors(e.g.,ambient and indoor air pollution),and risk prediction.This study aimed to systematically review the research progress on CVD risk factors in the Chinese population in the past five years.Prospective studies in China have identified biological,lifestyle,and environmental risk factors for CVD and its main subtypes,along with some protective factors unique to the Chinese(e.g.,spicy food and green tea).This review aimed to provide high-quality evidence for achieving the Outline of Healthy China 2030,developing disease prevention guidelines and measures,and deepening efforts for popularization of health knowledge.Yuanjie Pang Jun Lyu Canqing Yu Yu Guo Liming Lee 2020Global Health Journal2020,4,3:12

3Clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in five countries and regions: Japan;South Korea;China's Mainland;Hong Kong, China;Taiwan, China显示文摘Objective:To study the characteristics of the clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in five countries and regions where traditional medicine(TM)is widely used:Japan;South Korea;China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China;Taiwan,China.And to analyze,from multiple angles,the variations in the methods of TM used in each countries and regions.Methods:Fifty commonly used traditional herbs(TOP50)from classical formulae were selected,and descriptive statistics,correlation analyses,and Friedman test were used to compare methods of clinical application and dosages in the countries and regions of interest based on a retrospective review of randomly-selected medical records.Results:There were significant differences in sequencing TOP50 among the five countries and regions(P<.01).The adherence to the classical formulae,from strong to weak was Japan;China's Mainland;Taiwan,China;Hong Kong,China;South Korea.There were also significant differences in TOP50 dosing regimens(P<.01).Overall dosages of TOP50 from high to low were:China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China;Taiwan,China;South Korea;Japan.Finally,there were significant differences in the dosage intervals(P<.01),with dosage intervals from maximum to minimum as follows:China's Mainland;Taiwan,China;Hong Kong,China;South Korea;Japan.Conclusions:The clinical dosages of traditional herbal medicine used in the China's Mainland are relatively large compared with those prescribed in the other four countries and regions,and the range of dosages in China's Mainland is more flexible.On the other hand,clinical dosages of TOP50 are the lowest in Japan,where the dosage range is also the narrowest,supporting the idea that Doctors of Kampo medicine are highly cautious and are likely to adhere strictly to classical formulae,while Hong Kong,China and Taiwan,China are in the middle.The dosage of TOP50 in South Korea is significantly lower than that used in the China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China and Taiwan,China where the adherence to the classical formulae was the lowest,albeit slightly higher than that in Japan.The methods of clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in the five countries and regions were affected by multiple factors,including history,geography,climate,and culture.Liming Chen Yanling Fu Lin Zhang Sijia Zhao Qing Feng Yihua Cheng Tosha Yanai Daji Xu Mingyu Luo Sang Woo An Woong Seok Lee Seong Hoon Cho Byung Wook Lee 2015Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2015,2,3:1

7Modeling the impacts of temperature and precipitation changes on soil CO_2 fluxes from a Switchgrass stand recently converted from cropland显示文摘Switchgrass(Panicum virgatum L.) is a perennial C_4 grass native to North America and successfully adapted to diverse environmental conditions. It offers the potential to reduce soil surface carbon dioxide(CO_2) fluxes and mitigate climate change. However, information on how these CO_2 fluxes respond to changing climate is still lacking. In this study, CO_2 fluxes were monitored continuously from 2011 through 2014 using high frequency measurements from Switchgrass land seeded in 2008 on an experimental site that has been previously used for soybean(Glycine max L.) in South Dakota, USA. DAYCENT, a process-based model, was used to simulate CO_2 fluxes. An improved methodology CPTE[Combining Parameter estimation(PEST) with 'Trial and Error' method] was used to calibrate DAYCENT. The calibrated DAYCENT model was used for simulating future CO_2 emissions based on different climate change scenarios. This study showed that:(i) the measured soil CO_2 fluxes from Switchgrass land were higher for 2012 which was a drought year, and these fluxes when simulated using DAYCENT for long-term(2015–2070) provided a pattern of polynomial curve;(ii) the simulated CO_2 fluxes provided different patterns with temperature and precipitation changes in a long-term,(iii) the future CO_2 fluxes from Switchgrass land under different changing climate scenarios were not significantly different, therefore, it can be concluded that Switchgrass grown for longer durations could reduce changes in CO_2 fluxes from soil as a result of temperature and precipitation changes to some extent.Liming Lai Sandeep Kumar Rajesh Chintala Vance N. 19Enhancing cartilage repair with optimized supramolecular hydrogel-based scaffold and pulsed electromagnetic field显示文摘Functional tissue engineering strategies provide innovative approach for the repair and regeneration of damaged cartilage.Hydrogel is widely used because it could provide rapid defect filling and proper structure support,and is biocompatible for cell aggregation and matrix deposition.Efforts have been made to seek suitable scaffolds for cartilage tissue engineering.Here Alg-DA/Ac-β-CD/gelatin hydrogel was designed with the features of physical and chemical multiple crosslinking and self-healing properties.Gelation time,swelling ratio,biodegradability and biocompatibility of the hydrogels were systematically characterized,and the injectable self-healing adhesive hydrogel were demonstrated to exhibit ideal properties for cartilage repair.Furthermore,the new hydrogel design introduces a pre-gel state before photo-crosslinking,where increased viscosity and decreased fluidity allow the gel to remain in a semi-solid condition.This granted multiple administration routes to the hydrogels,which brings hydrogels the ability to adapt to complex clinical situations.Pulsed electromagnetic fields(PEMF)have been recognized as a promising solution to various health problems owing to their noninvasive properties and therapeutic potentials.PEMF treatment offers a better clinical outcome with fewer,if any,side effects,and wildly used in musculoskeletal tissue repair.Thereby we propose PEMF as an effective biophysical stimulation to be 4th key element in cartilage tissue engineering.In this study,the as-prepared Alg-DA/Ac-β-CD/gelatin hydrogels were utilized in the rat osteochondral defect model,and the potential application of PEMF in cartilage tissue engineering were investigated.PEMF treatment were proven to enhance the quality of engineered chondrogenic constructs in vitro,and facilitate chondrogenesis and cartilage repair in vivo.All of the results suggested that with the injectable self-healing adhesive hydrogel and PEMF treatment,this newly proposed tissue engineering strategy revealed superior clinical potential for cartilage defect treatment.Yucong Li Linlong Li Ye Li Lu Feng Bin Wang Ming Wang Haixing Wang Meiling Zhu Yongkang Yang Erik IWaldorff Nianli Zhang Ingmar Viohl Sien Lin Liming Bian Wayne Yuk-Wai Lee Gang Li 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,4:1
