1Genome-wide variants of Eurasian facial shape differentiation and a prospective model of DNA based face prediction显示文摘It is a long-standing question as to which genes define the characteristic facial features among different ethnic groups. In this study, we use Uyghurs, an ancient admixed population to query the genetic bases why Europeans and Han Chinese look different. Facial traits were analyzed based on high-dense 3D facial images; numerous biometric spaces were examined for divergent facial features between European and Han Chinese, ranging from inter-landmark distances to dense shape geometrics. Genome-wide association studies(GWAS) were conducted on a discovery panel of Uyghurs. Six significant loci were identified, four of which, rs1868752, rs118078182, rs60159418 at or near UBASH3B, COL23A1, PCDH7 and rs17868256 were replicated in independent cohorts of Uyghurs or Southern Han Chinese. 3Phyllosticta species associated with citrus diseases in China显示文摘Phyllosticta species associated with diseases of four commercial Citrus species grown in China are reported.Totally,496 Phyllosticta strains were isolated from mandarins(Citrus reticulata),pomeloes(C.maxima),oranges(C.sinensis)and lemons(C.limon)in the main citrus producing regions across China,and 74 strains were selected for phylogenetic analysis.Analyses inferred from the sequences of internal transcribed spacer region(ITS1,5.8S nrDNA and ITS2),partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha(TEF1)and partial actin gene(ACT),showed these representative Phyllosticta isolates clustered in four distinct clades corresponding to three known,and one undescribed species.The newly resolved taxon,Phyllosticta citrichinaensis was isolated from leaves and fruits of all four Citrus species and is introduced in this paper.This taxon caused minor damage,showing irregular spots or freckles.Phyllosticta citriasiana,associated with tan spot of pomeloes,was isolated only from pomeloes,and never from lemons,mandarins and oranges.Phyllosticta citricarpa,the citrus black spot pathogen,which is presently subjected to phytosanitary legislation in the EU and United States,was isolated from lemons,mandarins and oranges,but never from pomeloes.The isolates of P.citricarpa clustered in two subclades,one from mandarins,the other from oranges and lemons.P.capitalensis was isolated from all four Citrus species as an endophyte,causing false melanose,or together with P.citricarpa or P.citriasiana.Morphological,cultural and biochemical characters were consistent with the results of phylogenetic analysis.In addition,a specific primer pair Pca8/ITS4 was designed and selected,and its corresponding PCR procedure was developed for the detection of P.citriasiana in this study.Xinghong Wang Guoqing Chen Feng Huang Jingze Zhang Kevin D.Hyde Hongye Li 2012Fungal Diversity2012,,1:5
4Removal of bromate ion using powdered activated carbon显示文摘Bromate ion (BrO 3) removal from drinking water by powdered activated carbons (PAC S) in bath mode was evaluated under various operational conditions.Six kinds of PACs,including wood-based carbon,fruit-based carbon,coal-based carbon,and these three carbons thermally deoxidized in a nitrogen atmosphere,were selected to investigate their capacity on BrO 3 removal.With the highest zeta potential value and being richly mesoporous,coal-based carbon had a high and an excellent BrO 3 adsorption efficiency.The removal content of BrO 3 by per gram of coal-based carbon was 0.45 mg within 5 hr in 100 μg/L bromate solution.The surface characteristics of PACs and bromide formation revealed that both physical and chemical PACs properties simultaneously affected the adsorptionreduction process.Under acidic conditions,PAC S possessed high zeta value and adequate basic groups and exhibited neutral or positive charges,promoting BrO 3 adsorption-reduction on the carbon surface.Interestingly,the PAC S thermally deoxidized in N 2 atmosphere optimized their properties,e.g.increasing their zeta values and decreasing the oxygen content which accelerated the BrO 3 removal rate.The maximum adsorption capacity of fruit-based carbon was the highest among all tested carbons (99.6 mg/g),possibly due to its highest pore volume.Remarkably,the thermal regeneration of PACs in N 2 atmosphere could completely recover the adsorption capacity of PACs.The kinetic data obtained from carbons was analyzed using pseudo second-order and intraparticle diffusion models,with results showing that the intraparticle diffusion was the more applicable model to describe adsorption of BrO 3 onto PACs.Lian Wang Jie Zhang Jingze Liu Hong He Min Yang Jianwei Yu Zichuan Ma Feng Jiang 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,12:3

6Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 is a CROPs-associated receptor for Clostridioides infection toxin B显示文摘As the leading cause of worldwide hospital-acquired infection,Clostridioides difficile(C.difficile)infection has caused heavy economic and hospitalized burden,while its pathogenesis is not fully understood.Toxin B(Tcd B)is one of the major virulent factors of C.difficile.Recently,CSPG4 and FZD2 were reported to be the receptors that mediate Tcd B cellular entry.However,genetic ablation of genes encoding these receptors failed to completely block Tcd B entry,implicating the existence of alternative receptor(s)for this toxin.Here,by employing the CRISPR-Cas9 screen in CSPG4-deficient He La cells,we identified LDL receptor-related protein-1(LRP1)as a novel receptor for Tcd B.Knockout of LRP1 in both CSPG4-deficient He La cells and colonic epithelium Caco2 cells conferred cells with increased Tcd B resistance,while LRP1 overexpression sensitized cells to Tcd B at a low concentration.Co-immunoprecipitation assay showed that LRP1 interacts with full-length Tcd B.Moreover,CROPs domain,which is dispensable for Tcd B’s interaction with CSPG4 and FZD2,is sufficient for binding to LRP1.As such,our study provided evidence for a novel mechanism of Tcd B entry and suggested potential therapeutic targets for treating C.difficile infection.Shengjie Guo Yiou Chen Jingze Liu Xinyi Zhang Zhiheng Liu Zhuo Zhou Wensheng Wei 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,1:2

8Changes of gut microbiome and metabolome in the AOM/DSS mouse model of colorectal cancer with FLASH radiation显示文摘Objective:To investigate the differences in small intestinal toxicity and taxonomic composition,diversity,and functional pathways of gut microbiome and metabolome after different radiotherapies in mouse colorectal cancer(CRC)model.Methods:Azoxymethane/dextran sodium sulfate(AOM/DSS)-induced mouse CRC model was treated with single pulse FLASH-RT(dose rate 100 Gy/s)or CONV-RT(dose rate 2 Gy/min)at whole abdomen.At 12 d after radiotherapy,sections of small intestinal tract tissue were dissected for hematoxylin and eosin(HE)staining and the fresh feces were collected for 16S ribosomal RNA(rRNA)microbiome sequencing and liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry(LC-MS)metabolomics sequencing to assess changes in the gut microbiota and metabolites.Microbial high-throughput 16S rRNA data was analyzed with QIIME2 and LEfSe softwares.ProteoWizard,XCMS and Ropls softwares were used for LC-MS analysis.Results:HE staining showed that FLASH-RT maintained small intestinal integrity and reduced the radiotherapyinduced injury.Sequencing analysis of gut fecal microbiome showed that phylum Bacteroidetes and genera Prevotella and Lactobacillus of microbial community were increased after FLASH-RT.Metabolomics sequencing analysis revealed that the metabolites after FLASH-RT were enriched in amino acid metabolism,while cholesterol metabolism was top enriched after CONV-RT.Conclusions:FLASH-RT significantly mitigates the small intestine tissue damage compared with CONV-RT.FLASHRT and CONV-RT have different impact on gut microbiota and its metabolites.Our results provide a theoretical basis for the early evaluation,prediction and individualized treatment of the irradiation effect after novel FLASHRT on tumors through the evaluation of intestinal microbiota and metabolites.Mengmeng Xu Xinyu Qiu Qiu Chen Tianyu Yang Jingze Xu Liang Chen Lixiong Shuai Zhiming Xu Xinyang Cheng Yongsheng Zhang Zhifei Cao 2023Radiation Medicine and Protection2023,4,1:2

13Characteristics of dental morphology in the Xinjiang Uyghurs and correlation with the EDARV370A variant显示文摘Teeth are one of the most important materials for anthropological studies because they are likely to be preserved in ancient remains.While the frequencies of dental characteristics can provide clues to the phylogeny of populations,genetic studies at the individual level can further reveal the biological mechanisms and evolutionary context of dental characteristics.In this study,by analyzing 38 dental characteristics of 242 Xinjiang Uyghur individuals,we found that(i)the dental characteristics of the Uyghurs showed evidence of admixture between European and East Asian populations.The admixture proportions were in line with those previously reported in population genetic studies;(ii)the Xinjiang Uyghur dental characteristics formed three clusters in pairwise correlation analysis.One of the main clusters consisted of characteristics including incisor shoveling,double shoveling and mesial ridge;and(iii)all the characteristics in this cluster were significantly correlated with the genetic variant EDARV370A.The extracted composite phenotypic factor was also significantly associated with EDARV370A,which explained 18%of the total phenotypic variance.This indicated a pleiotropic effect,i.e.,the same genetic factor affects a number of dental characteristics at the same time.Our results confirmed that EDARV370A,a genetic variant that first originated in East Asia about 30000 years ago,played an important role in incisor shoveling in East Asia.This finding suggested that incisor shoveling in modern humans in East Asia is likely to have appeared after the late Pleistocene.TAN JingZe PENG QianQian LI JinXi GUAN YaQun ZHANG LiPing JIAO Yi YANG YaJun WANG SiJia JIN Li 2014Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,5:2
14A Novel Objective Quality Assessment Method for Video Conferencing Coding显示文摘Most recently, due to the demand of immersive communication, region-of-interest-based(ROI) high efficiency video coding(HEVC) approaches in conferencing scenarios have become increasingly important. However, there exists no objective metric, specially developed for efficiently evaluating the perceived visual quality of video conferencing coding. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel objective quality assessment method, namely Gaussian mixture model based peak signal-tonoise ratio(GMM-PSNR), for the perceptual video conferencing coding. First, eye tracking experiments, together with a real-time technique of face and facial feature extraction, are introduced. In the experiments, importance of background, face, and facial feature regions is identified, and it is then quantified based on eye fixation points over test videos. Next, assuming that the distribution of the eye fixation points obeys Gaussian mixture model, we utilize expectation-maximization(EM) algorithm to generate an importance weight map for each frame of video conferencing coding, in light of a new term eye fixation points/pixel(efp/p). According to the generated weight map, GMM-PSNR is developed for quality assessment by assigning different weights to the distortion of each pixel in the video frame. Finally, we utilize some experiments to investigate the correlation of the proposed GMM-PSNR and other conventional objective metrics with subjective quality metrics. 17Synergistic modulation of Li nucleation/growth enabled by CNTswrapped lithiophilic CoP/Co_(2)P decorated hollow carbon polyhedron host for stable lithium metal anodes显示文摘Infinite volume expansion and uncontrolled lithium dendrite growth are the main bottlenecks that greatly hinder the commercial application of lithium metal anodes.Herein,derived from zeolitic imidazolate framework(ZIF)-67,carbon nanotubes(CNTs)-wrapped and CoP/Co_(2)P uniformly distributed nitrogen-doped hollow porous polyhedron carbon(CNT-CoP@NC)is elaborately designed as lithium metal host.A hybrid of N-doping and metallic phosphides modifications improves the lithiophilicity and reduces the nucleation barrier,consequently leading to homogeneous nucleation and smooth deposition of metallic lithium,thus suppresses the growth of Li dendrites.Meanwhile,self-generated CNTs arrays efficiently reduce the local current density.Moreover,the reduced lithium is preferentially deposited into the hollow structure of CNT-CoP@NC and then filled the voids among the CNT-CoP@NC particles.This all-pervasive Li plating design can not only alleviate the volume effect,but also maximize the anode space utilization.Benefiting from these synergistic modulations,even with an ultra-thin(7.2μm)anode layer of CNT-CoP@NC host,a high Coulombic efficiency for more than 400 cycles and an extended lifespan of 1,700 h under 1 mA·cm^(−2)can be achieved.When paired with a competitive high mass loading(17.1 mg·cm^(−2))LiFePO4 cathode,a superb cycling stability(126.7 mAh·g^(−1)over 550 cycles)is recorded at 1 C.Zhicui Song Yuchi Liu Zihao Wang Jianxiong Xing Chaohui Wei Wei Zou Aijun Zhou Jingze Li 2023Nano Research2023,16,4:1

20Multiparameter optimization and configuration comparison of supercritical CO_(2) Brayton cycles based on efficiency and cost tradeoff显示文摘Supercritical CO_(2)Brayton cycle has high efficiency,compactness,and excellent power generation potential.In the design of the cycle,some parameters,such as recuperator pinch point temperature difference(ΔTrec,pp),turbine inlet temperature(Ttur,in),and maximum cycle pressure(pmax),are often preset without optimization.Furthermore,different preferences on efficiency and cost tradeoff can significantly affect the optimal design of the cycle,and the influence of different parameters on the design condition and the optimum cycle configuration becomes unclear as the preference changes.In this study,different preferences on efficiency and cost tradeoff are considered,and the effects of cycle configuration and optimization parameter addition on the tradeoff are investigated.In addition,four configurations under different preferences on tradeoff are recommended.Results show that the design condition parametersΔT_(rec,pp) decrease and T_(tur,in) and pmax increase as the preference of thermal efficiency(W_(th))increases.Different optimized parameters affect the results of the design point and cycle performance.In addition,the simple recuperative cycle and reheating cycle are recommended when low cycle initial cost dominates(W_(th)<0.598),and the recompression cycle and intercooling cycle are recommended when high cycle thermal efficiency dominates(W_(th)>0.701).The decision maker can select appropriate configuration according to specific preferences.LIU TianYe YANG JingZe YANG Zhen DUAN YuanYuan 2021Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,10:1
