| 1 | Precipitation seesaw phenomenon and its formation mechanism in the eastern and western parts of Northwest China during the flood season显示文摘Extending across three major plateaus,namely the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau,the Inner Mongolia-Xinjiang Plateau and the Loess Plateau,Northwest China has the complex terrain and spatio-temporal climate variations,and is affected by the interactions among different circulation systems,such as the summer monsoon,the westerlies and the plateau monsoon.The understanding of the climate variability,as well as its characteristics and evolution mechanisms in this area has been limited so far.In this paper,the precipitation characteristics and mechanisms in the eastern and western parts of Northwest China during the flood season are compared and analyzed based on the data from 192 national meteorological observational sites in Northwest China in 1961-2016.The results show that,divided by the northern boundary of the East Asian summer monsoon,there are huge differences in the precipitation variation characteristics between the eastern and western parts.The inter-annual variations,interdecadal variations and total trends in the two parts all show a significant seesaw phenomenon.Moreover,it is found that the seesaw phenomenon of precipitation variation is closely related to the opposite variation between the East Asian summer monsoon index(MI)and the westerly circulation index(WI).In addition,the inverse variations on different time scales are only related to the contributions of precipitation at specific grades.Besides,in the two matching patterns of precipitation in the seesaw phenomenon,the middle and high latitudes are occupied by the'high-low-high'wave trains in the precipitation increases in the east of Northwest China(ENWC)and decreases in the west of Northwest China(WNWC)pattern,meaning precipitation increases in ENWC and decreases in WNWC.Whereas the opposite'low-high-low'wave trains at 500 hPa height are observed in the middle and high latitudes in the WH-EA pattern at 500 hPa height,meaning precipitation increases in WNWC and decreases in ENWC.Thus,the atmosphere circulation situation with two wave train types can support both the precipitation seesaw phenomenon and the opposite variation between MI and WI.Moreover,the seesaw phenomenon is shown to be related to the separate or joint effects of the South Asian High,ENSO and the plateau heating on the common but opposite effect on the summer monsoon and the westerlies,in which the South Asian High probably plays a more critical role.This study could deepen the scientific understanding of precipitation mechanisms and improve the weather forecast technology in Northwest China during the flood season. | Qiang ZHANG Jingjing LIN Weicheng LIU Lanying HAN | 2019 | Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,12: | 11 |
| 2 | A novel anticancer property of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide in triggering ferroptosis of breast cancer cells显示文摘Breast cancer is one of the most malignant tumors and is associated with high mortality rates among women.Lycium barbarum polysaccharide(LBP)is an extract from the fruits of the traditional Chinese herb,L.barbarum.LBP is a promising anticancer drug,due to its high activity and low toxicity.Although it has anticancer properties,its mechanisms of action have not been fully established.Ferroptosis,which is a novel anticancer strategy,is a cell death mechanism that relies on iron-dependent lipid reactive oxygen species(ROS)accumulation.In this study,human breast cancer cells(Michigan Cancer Foundation-7(MCF-7)and MD Anderson-Metastatic Breast-231(MDA-MB-231))were treated with LBP.LBP inhibited their viability and proliferation in association with high levels of ferroptosis.Therefore,we aimed to ascertain whether LBP reduced cell viability through ferroptosis.We found that the structure and function of mitochondria,lipid peroxidation,and expression of solute carrier family 7 member 11(SLC7 A11,also known as x CT,the light-chain subunit of cystine/glutamate antiporter system X_(c)^(-))and glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)were altered by LBP.Moreover,the ferroptosis inhibitor,Ferrostatin-1(Fer-1),rescued LBP-induced ferroptosis-associated events including reduced cell viability and glutathione(GSH)production,accumulation of intracellular free divalent iron ions and malondialdehyde(MDA),and down-regulation of the expression of x CT and GPX4.Erastin(x CT inhibitor)and RSL3(GPX4 inhibitor)inhibited the expression of x CT and GPX4,respectively,which was lower after the co-treatment of LBP with Erastin and RSL3.These results suggest that LBP effectively prevents breast cancer cell proliferation and promotes ferroptosis via the x CT/GPX4 pathway.Therefore,LBP exhibits novel anticancer properties by triggering ferroptosis,and may be a potential therapeutic option for breast cancer. | Xing DU Jingjing ZHANG Ling LIU Bo XU Hang HAN Wenjie DAI Xiuying PEI Xufeng FU Shaozhang HOU | 2022 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2022,23,4: | 10 |

| 4 | Chemical characteristics of size-resolved aerosols in winter in Beijing显示文摘Size-resolved aerosols were continuously collected by a Nano Sampler for 13 days at an urban site in Beijing during winter 2012 to measure the chemical composition of ambient aerosol particles. Data collected by the Nano Sampler and an ACSM(Aerodyne Aerosol Chemical Speciation Monitor) were compared. Between the data sets,similar trends and strong correlations were observed,demonstrating the validity of the Nano Sampler. PM10 and PM2.5concentrations during the measurement were 150.5 ± 96.0 μg/m3(mean ± standard variation)and 106.9 ± 71.6 μg/m3,respectively. The PM2.5/PM10 ratio was 0.70 ± 0.10,indicating that PM2.5dominated PM10. The aerosol size distributions showed that three size bins of 0.5–1,1–2.5 and 2.5–10 μm contributed 21.8%,23.3% and 26.0% to the total mass concentration(TMC),respectively. OM(organic matter) and SIA(secondary ionic aerosol,mainly SO42-,NO3-and NH4+) were major components of PM2.5. Secondary compounds(SIA and secondary organic carbon) accounted for half of TMC(about 49.8%) in PM2.5,and suggested that secondary aerosols significantly contributed to the serious particulate matter pollution observed in winter. Coal burning,biomass combustion,vehicle emissions and SIA were found to be the main sources of PM2.5. | 5 | Paleomagnetic data from the Late Carboniferous-Late Permian rocks in eastern Tibet and their implications for tectonic evolution of the northern Qiangtang-Qamdo block显示文摘We report paleomagnetic results from the Late Carboniferous-Late Permian strata in eastern Tibet (China), and aim to clarify the tectonic and paleogeographic evolution of the northern Qiangtang-Qamdo block, which is the key to the study of plate boundary between the Gondwanaland and the Eurasia during the late Paleozoic. Two hundred and nineteen samples-including limestone, muddy siltstone, basalt, lava, and tuff-were collected at 24 sites in the Upper Carboniferous and Middle-Upper Permian successions. A systematic study of rock magnetism and paleomagnetism yields three reliable paleomagnetic pole positions. Both hematite and magnetite occurred in the Late Carboniferous limestone samples. The demagnetization curve shows a characteristic double-component, with the remanent magnetization (ChRM) exhibiting a positive polarity (negative inclination). In the Late Permian limestone, tuff, and basalt, magnetic information were recorded primarily in magnetite, although a small fraction of them was found in hematite in basalt. The demagnetization curve illustrates a double or single component, with the ChRM showing a negative polarity (positive inclination), which has passed the classic fold test successfully. The single polarity features of the ChRM directions of the Late Carboniferous and Middle-Late Permian rocks are respectively related to the Kiaman positive and reversed polarities under the stratigraphic coordinates. This, in turn, indicates that both ChRMs directions represent the original remanence directions. By comparison with the previously published paleomagnetic results from the late Paleozoic rocks in the northern Qiangtang Range, we suggest that: (1) Qamdo and northern Qiangtang block were independent of each other during the Late Carboniferous to the Early Permian periods. The north Lancangjiang ocean basin between the two blocks may have closed before the Middle Permian and been involved in the continent-continent collision stage in the Late Permian-Early Triassic periods. | 6 | Topographical relief characteristics and its impact on population and economy:A case study of the mountainous area in western Henan,China显示文摘Topographical relief is a key factor that limits population distribution and economic development in mountainous areas.The limitation is especially apparent in the mountain?plain t「ansition zone.Taking the transition zone between the Qinling Mountains and the North China Plain(i.e.the mountainous area in western Henan Province)as an example and based on the 200-m resolution DEM data,we used the mean change-point analysis to determine the optimal statistical unit for topographical relief,and thereafter extracted the relief degree.Taking the 1:100,000 land use data,township population and county-level industrial data,population and economic spatial models were constructed,and 200?m resolution grid population and economic density maps were gen erated.Afterwards,statistical analysis was carried out to quantitatively reveal the impact of topographical relief on population and economy.In addition,the impacts of other topographical factors were discussed.The results showed the following.(1)The relief degree in western Henan is generally low,where 58.6%of the regional topography does not exceed half the height of a reference mountain(relative elevation W250 m).Spatially,the relief degree is high in the west while low in the east,and high in the middle while low in the north and south.There is a positive correlation between relief degree and elevation,and a much stronger correlation between relief degree and slope.(2)The linear fitting degree between the population and economic validation data and the corresponding simulation data are 0.943 and 0.909,respectively,indicating that the spatialized results can reflect the actual population and economic distribution.(3)The impact of topographical relief on population and economy was stronger than that of other topographical factors.The relief degree showed a good logarithmic fit relati on ship with population density(0.911)and economic density(0.874).Specifically,88.65%of the population lives in areas where the topographical relief is W0.5 and 88.03%of the gross regional product was from areas where the relief is W0.3.Compared with the population distribution,the economic development showed an obvious agglomeration trend towards low relief areas. | ZHANG Jingjing ZHU Wenbo ZHU Lianqi CUI Yaoping HE Shasha REN Han | 2019 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2019,29,4: | 8 |

| 8 | A data-driven model predictive control for lighting system based on historical occupancy in an office building: Methodology development显示文摘The lighting system accounts for 8%of the total electricity consumption in commercial buildings in the United States and 12%of the total electricity consumption in public buildings globally.This consumption share can be effectively reduced using the demand-response control.The traditional lighting system control method commonly depends on the real-time occupancy data collected using the passive infrared(PIR)sensor.However,the detection inaccuracy of the PIR sensor usually results in false-offs.To diminish the false-error frequency,the existing lighting system control simply deploys a delayed reaction period(e.g.,5 to 20 min),which is not sufficiently accurate for the demand-response operation.Therefore,in this research,a novel data-driven model predictive control(MPC)method that is based on the temporal sequential-based artificial neural network(TS-ANN)is proposed to overcome this challenge using an updated historical occupancy status.Using an office as case study,the proposed model is also compared with the traditional lighting system control method.In the proposed model,the occupancy data was trained to predict the occupancy pattern to improve the control.It was found that the occupancy prediction mainly correlates with the historical occupancy ratio and the time sequential feature.The simulation results indicated that the proposed method achieved higher accuracy(97.4%)and fewer false-offs(from 79.5 with traditional time delay method to 0.6 times per day)are achieved by the MPC model.The proposed TS-ANN-MPC method integrates the analysis of the occupant behavior routine into on-site control and has the potential to further enhance the control performance practice for maximum energy conservation. | Yuan Jin Da Yan Xingxing Zhang Jingjing An Mengjie Han | 2021 | Building Simulation2021,14,1: | 6 |
| 9 | IL-17 sustains the plasma cell response via p38-mediated Bcl-xL RNA stability in lupus pathogenesis显示文摘Recent studies have demonstrated a central role for plasma cells in the development of autoimmune diseases,such as systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE).Currently,both the phenotypic features and functional regulation of autoreactive plasma cells during SLE pathogenesis remain largely unclear.In this study,we first found that a major subset of IL-17 receptor-expressing plasma cells potently produced anti-dsDNA IgG upon IL-17A(IL-17)stimulation in SLE patients and lupus mice.Using a humanized lupus mouse model,we showed that the transfer of Th17 cell-depleted PBMCs from lupus patients resulted in a significantly reduced plasma cell response and attenuated renal damage in recipient mice compared to the transfer of total SLE PBMCs.Moreover,long-term BrdU incorporation in lupus mice detected highly enriched long-lived BrdU+subsets among IL-17 receptor-expressing plasma cells.Lupus mice deficient in IL-17 or IL-17 receptor C(IL-17RC)exhibited a diminished plasma cell response and reduced autoantibody production with attenuated renal damage,while the adoptive transfer of Th17 cells triggered the plasma cell response and renal damage in IL-17-deficient lupus mice.In reconstituted chimeric mice,IL-17RC deficiency resulted in severely impaired plasma cell generation but showed no obvious effect on germinal center B cells.Further mechanistic studies revealed that IL-17 significantly promoted plasma cell survival via p38-mediated Bcl-xL transcript stabilization.Together,our findings identified a novel function of IL-17 in enhancing plasma cell survival for autoantibody production in lupus pathogenesis,which may provide new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of SLE. | Kongyang Ma Wenhan Du Fan Xiao Man Han Enyu Huang Na Peng Yuan Tang Chong Deng Lixiong Liu Yulan Chen Jingjing Li Shiwen Yuan Qin Huang Xiaoping Hong Dajun Hu Xiaoyan Cai Quan Jiang Dongzhou Liu Liwei Lu | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,7: | 6 |
| 10 | Bismuth nanosheets as a Q-switcher for a mid-infrared erbium-doped SrF_2 laser显示文摘Bismuth nanosheets(Bi-NSs) were successfully prepared and employed as saturable absorbers to generate a diodepumped dual-wavelength Er^(3+):SrF_2 laser in the mid-infrared region. Q-switched pulses with a maximum output power of 0.226 W were obtained at an absorbed pump power of 1.97 W. A repetition rate of 56.20 kHz and a minimum pulse duration of 980 ns were achieved. To the best of our knowledge, we present the first application of Bi-NSs in a mid-infrared all-solid-state laser. | 14 | Superior electrochemical performance of La-Mg-Ni-based alloys with novel A_(2)B_(7)-A_(7)B_(23) biphase superlattice structure显示文摘Nickel metal hydride(Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries hold an important position in the new-energy vehicle market owing to their key technology advantages. Their negative electrode materials—hydrogen storage alloys(HSAs) are always on the spotlight and are the key to compete with the burgeoning Li-ion batteries. Here, for the first time we report a series of biphase supperlattice HSAs with a(La,Mg)_(2)Ni_7 matrix phase and a novel(La,Mg)_(7)Ni_(23) secondary phase. The biphase alloys show discharge capacities of402–413 m Ahg^(-1) compared with 376–397 mAhg^(-1) of the other multi-or single-phase alloys. These values are among the highest for superlattice HSAs. In addition, the alloy with 15.4 wt.%(La,Mg)_(7)Ni_(23) phase exhibits good high rate dischargeability due to the proper compromise between the amount of crystal boundaries and equilibrium plateau voltage. The cycling stability of the biphase alloys is lower than that of the single-phase alloy but is till higher than the multiphase alloy. | 15 | Ultra-compact broadband polarization beam splitter with strong expansibility显示文摘Based on the traditional directional coupler, we proposed a scheme to design on-chip polarization beam splitters using an inverse design method. In our scheme, the coupling area of the designed devices are only 0.48 μm× 6.4 μm. By manipulating the refractive index of the coupling region, the devices can work in C-band,L-band, O-band, or any other communication band. Different from conventional design methods, which need to adjust the design parameters artificially, if the initial conditions are determined, the proposed scheme can automatically adjust the design parameters of devices according to specific requirements. The simulation results show that the insertion losses of the designed polarization beam splitters can be less than 0.4 dB(0.35 dB) for TE(TM)mode at the wavelengths of 1310, 1550, and 1600 nm, and the extinction ratios are larger than 19.9 dB for the TE and TM modes at all three wavelengths. Besides, the extinction ratios of both polarization states are more than 14.5 dB within the wavelength range of 1286–1364 nm, 1497–1568 nm, and 1553–1634 nm. | 17 | Tree species richness enhances stand productivity while stand structure can have opposite effects, based on forest inventory data from Germany and the United States of America显示文摘Background: In recent studies, mixed forests were found to be more productive than monocultures with everything else remaining the same.Methods: To find out if this productivity is caused by tree species richness, by a more heterogeneous stand structure or both, we analyzed the effects of forest structure and tree species richness on stand productivity, based on inventory data of temperate forests in the United States of America and Germany.Results: Having accounted for effects such as tree size and stand density, we found that:(Ⅰ) tree species richness increased stand productivity in both countries while the effect of tree size heterogeneity on productivity was negative in Germany but positive in the USA;(Ⅱ) productivity was highest at sites with an intermediate amount of precipitation; and(Ⅲ) growth limitations due water scarcity or low temperature may enhance structural heterogeneity.Conclusions: In the context of forest ecosystem goods and services, as well as future sustainable forest resource management, the associated implications would be:Tree species richness is vital for maintaining forest productivity.As an optimum amount of precipitation is accompanied by the highest productivity, changes in climatic conditions should be considered when planning.Resource limitations enhance structural heterogeneity, which in turn can have positive or negative effects on stand productivity.Furthermore, we discuss the difficulties encountered when analyzing different national forest inventories and large data sets. | Laura Zeller Jingjing Liang Hans Pretzsch | 2018 | Forest Ecosystems2018,5,1: | 3 |
| 18 | EEG processing and its application in brain-computer interface显示文摘Electroencephalogram (EEG) is an efficient tool in exploring human brains. It plays a very important role in diagnosis of disorders related to epilepsy and development of new interaction techniques between machines and human beings,namely,brain-computer interface (BCI). The purpose of this review is to illustrate the recent researches in EEG processing and EEG-based BCI. First,we outline several methods in removing artifacts from EEGs,and classical algorithms for fatigue detection are discussed. Then,two BCI paradigms including motor imagery and steady-state motion visual evoked potentials (SSMVEP) produced by oscillating Newton's rings are introduced. Finally,BCI systems including wheelchair controlling and electronic car navigation are elaborated. | 19 | An Efficient Location Privacy Protection Scheme Based on the Chinese Remainder Theorem显示文摘Traditional k-anonymity schemes cannot protect a user's privacy perfectly in big data and mobile network environments. In fact, existing k-anonymity schemes only protect location in datasets with small granularity. But in larger granularity datasets, a user's geographical region-location is always exposed in realizations of k-anonymity because of interaction with neighboring nodes. And if a user could not find enough adjacent access points, most existing schemes would be invalid. How to protect location information has become an important issue. But it has not attracted much attention. To solve this problem, two location-privacy protection models are proposed. Then a new generalized k-anonymity Location Privacy Protection Scheme based on the Chinese Remainder Theorem(LPSS-CRT) in Location-Based Services(LBSs) is proposed. We prove that it can guarantee that users can access LBSs without leaking their region-location information, which means the scheme can achieve perfect anonymity.Analysis shows that LPPS-CRT is more secure in protecting location privacy, including region information, and is more efficient, than similar schemes. | 20 | Recruited CD68^(+)CD206^(+)macrophages orchestrate graft immune tolerance to prompt xenogeneic-dentin matrix-based tooth root regeneration显示文摘Successful regenerative medicine strategies of xenogeneic extracellular matrix need a synergistic balance among inflammation,fibrosis,and remodeling process.Adaptive macrophage subsets have been identified to modulate inflammation and orchestrate the repair of neighboring parenchymal tissues.This study fabricated PPARγ-primed CD68+CD206+M2 phenotype(M2γ),and firstly verified their anti-inflammatory and tissue-regenerating roles in xenogeneic bioengineered organ regeneration.Our results showed that Th1-type CD3^(+)CD8^(+)T cell response to xenogeneic-dentin matrix-based bioengineered root complex(xeno-complex)was significantly inhibited by M2γmacrophage in vitro.PPARγactivation also timely recruited CD68^(+)CD206^(+)tissue macrophage polarization to xeno-complex in vivo.These subsets alleviated proinflammatory cytokines(TNF-α,IFN-γ)at the inflammation site and decreased CD3^(+)CD8^(+)T lymphocytes in the periphery system.When translated to an orthotopic nonhuman primate model,PPARγ-primed M2 macrophages immunosuppressed IL-1β,IL-6,TNF-α,MMPs to enable xeno-complex to effectively escape immune-mediated rejection and initiate graft-host synergistic integrity.These collective activities promoted the differentiation of odontoblast-like and periodontal-like cells to guide pulp-dentin and cementum-PDLs-bone regeneration and rescued partially injured odontogenesis such as DSPP and periostin expression.Finally,the regenerated root showed structure-biomechanical and functional equivalency to the native tooth.The timely conversion of M1-to-M2 macrophage mainly orchestrated odontogenesis,fibrogenesis,and osteogenesis,which represents a potential modulator for intact parenchymal-stromal tissue regeneration of targeted organs. | Hui Li Jingjing Sun Hefeng Yang Xue Han Xiangyou Luo LiJun Liao Bo Yang Tian Zhu Fangjun Huo Weihua Guo Weidong Tian | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,4: | 2 |
