| 3 | Plasmonics for solid-state lighting: enhanced excitation and directional emission of highly efficient light sources显示文摘Light sources based on reliable and energy-efficient light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are instrumental in the development of solid-statelighting (SSL). Most research efforts in SSL have focused on improving both the intrinsic quantum efficiency (QE) and the stability oflight emitters. For this reason, it is broadly accepted that with the advent of highly efficient (QE close to 1) and stable emitters, thefundamental research phase of SSL is coming to an end. In this study, we demonstrate a very large improvement in SSL emission (above70-fold directional enhancement for p-polarized emission and 60-fold enhancement for unpolarized emission) using nanophotonicstructures. This is attained by coupling emitters with very high QE to collective plasmonic resonances in periodic arrays of aluminumnanoantennas. | 4 | 通过手术导致的重量损失由胃绕过在疾病的肥胖的病人改进非含酒精的脂肪肝疾病显示文摘 AIM:To evaluate the effects of surgical weight loss(Roux-en-Y gastric bypass with a modified Fobi-Capella technique) on non alcoholic fatty liver disease in obese patients.METHODS:A group of 26 morbidly obese patients aged 45 ± 2 years and with a body mass index > 40 kg/m 2 who underwent open surgical weight loss operations had paired liver biopsies,the first at surgery and the second after 16 ± 3 mo of weight loss.Biopsies were evaluated and compared in a blinded fashion.The presence of metabolic syndrome,anthropometric and biochemical variables were also assessed at baseline and at the time of the second biopsy.RESULTS:Percentage of excess weight loss was 72.1% ± 6.6%.There was a reduction in prevalence of metabolic syndrome from 57.7%(15 patients) to 7.7%(2 patients)(P < 0.001).Any significance difference was observed in aspartate aminotransferase or alanine aminotransferase between pre and postsurgery.There were improvements in steatosis(P < 0.001),lobular(P < 0.001) and portal(P < 0.05) inflammation and fibrosis(P < 0.001) at the second biopsy.There were 25(96.1%) patients with non alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) in their index biopsy and only four(15.3%) of the repeat biopsies fulfilled the criteria for NASH.The persistence of fibrosis(F > 1) was present in five patients at second biopsy.Steatosis and fibrosis at surgery were predictors of significant fibrosis postsurgery.CONCLUSION:Restrictive mildly malabsorptive surgery provides significant weight loss,resolution of metabolic syndrome and associated abnormal liver histological features in most obese patients. | Víctor Vargas Helena Allende Albert Lecube Maria Teresa Salcedo Juan A Baena-Fustegueras José M Fort Joaquín Rivero Roser Ferrer Roberto Catalán Eva Pardina Santiago Ramón y Cajal Jaime Guardia Julia Peinado-Onsurbe | 2012 | World Journal of Hepatology2012,4,12: | 6 |
| 5 | Effects of exogenous enzymes, Lactobacillus acidophilus or their combination on feed performance response and carcass characteristics of rabbits fed sugarcane bagasse显示文摘The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus(LAC), exogenous enzymes of ZAD(exogenous enzyme preparation) or their combination on feed conversion, and dressing of rabbits fed different treatments of sugarcane bagasse(SCB). Five rations were allotted randomly to five groups of New-Zealand White(NZW) rabbits(n=10) with initial live body weight of(838±42.4) g and 5 weeks of age. Rabbits were fed on diets with different sources of fiber as follows,(i) a control diet composed of 100% berseem hay and 0% SCB,(ii) 50% berseem hay and 50% untreated SCB(USCB),(iii) 50% berseem hay and 50% SCB treated with L. acidophilus(LAC),(iv) 50% berseem hay and 50% SCB treated with ZAD(ZAD), and(v) 50% berseem hay and 50% SCB treated with a combination of LAC+ZAD(LZ). Treatments of SCB with L. acidophilus, ZAD and LAC+ZAD had the highest feed conversion ratio than both USCB and control. The dressing percentage of rabbits that fed the LAC and LZ diets was higher(P<0.05) compared with that in the other groups. Performance index(PI) for LAC group was improved(P<0.05) compared to that for the other groups; however, PI for USCB group was the lowest(P<0.05). | 9 | ddRAD sequencing-based genotyping for population structure analysis in cultivated tomato provides new insights into the genomic diversity of Mediterranean‘da serbo’type long shelf-life germplasm显示文摘Double digest restriction-site associated sequencing(ddRAD-seq)is a flexible and cost-effective strategy for providing in-depth insights into the genetic architecture of germplasm collections.Using this methodology,we investigated the genomic diversity of a panel of 288 diverse tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.)accessions enriched in‘da serbo’(called‘de penjar’in Spain)long shelf life(LSL)materials(152 accessions)mostly originating from Italy and Spain.The rest of the materials originate from different countries and include landraces for fresh consumption,elite cultivars,heirlooms,and breeding lines.Apart from their LSL trait,‘da serbo’landraces are of remarkable interest for their resilience.We identified 32,799 high-quality SNPs,which were used for model ancestry population structure and non-parametric hierarchical clustering.Six genetic subgroups were revealed,clearly separating most‘da serbo’landraces,but also the Spanish germplasm,suggesting a subdivision of the population based on type and geographical provenance.Linkage disequilibrium(LD)in the collection decayed very rapidly within<5 kb.We then investigated SNPs showing contrasted minor frequency allele(MAF)in‘da serbo’materials,resulting in the identification of high frequencies in this germplasm of several mutations in genes related to stress tolerance and fruit maturation such as CTR1 and JAR1.Finally,a mini-core collection of 58 accessions encompassing most of the diversity was selected for further exploitation of key traits.Our findings suggest the presence of a genetic footprint of the‘da serbo’germplasm selected in the Mediterranean basin.Moreover,we provide novel insights on LSL‘da serbo’germplasm as a promising source of alleles for tolerance to stresses. | Salvatore Esposito Teodoro Cardi Gabriele Campanelli Sara Sestili María JoséDíez Salvador Soler Jaime Prohens Pasquale Tripodi | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 2 |
| 10 | Prophylaxis with ketotifen in rats with portal hypertension:involvement of mast cell and eicosanoids显示文摘BACKGROUND:Since we have previously shown an increase of mast cells in the small bowel and in the mesenteric lymph nodes in the rats with prehepatic portal hypertension,it can be hypothesized that this essential inflammatory cell would be involved in the pathogeny of the splanchnic changes related to portal hypertension. METHODS:To verify this hypothesis,we first studied mast cell infiltration in the ileum and in the mesenteric lymph nodes in sham-operated male Wistar rats(n=12) and in short-term prehepatic portal hypertensive rats (n=12),and the serum levels of rat mast cell protease Ⅱ(RMCP-Ⅱ)by ELISA.In a second set of experiments ketotifen,a mast cell stabilizer drug,was administered to sham-operated(n=10)and portal hypertensive(n=12) rats 24 hours before the intervention and prostanoids (PGE2,PGI2,TXB2)and leukotrienes(LTC4,LTB4)were assayed by RIA,mast cell infiltration in the ileum and in the mesenteric lymph nodes and the serum levels of RMCP-Ⅱwere also studied,to show its effectiveness to prevent the mesenteric alterations produced by the inflammatory mediators released by the mast cell. RESULTS:Forty-eight hours after the intervention RMCP-Ⅱ (P<0.05),PGE2(P<0.001)and LTC4 serum levels decreased and mast cell number and RMCP-Ⅱlevels increased in mesenteric lymph nodes in portal hypertensive rats.Prophylactic administration of ketotifen reduced portal pressure(P<0.001),serum levels of PGE2(P<0.001)and RMCP-Ⅱ(P<0.001)in mesenteric lymph nodes. | 11 | Hepatic lipid metabolism changes in short-and long-term prehepatic portal hypertensive rats显示文摘AIM: To verify the impairment of the hepatic lipid metabolism in prehepatic portal hypertension. METHODS: The concentrations of free fatty acids, diacylglycerol, triglycerides, and phospholipids were assayed by using D-[U-14C] glucose incorporation in the different lipid fractions and thin-layer chromatography and cholesterol was measured by spectrophotometry, in liver samples of Wistar rats with partial portal vein ligation at short- (1 mo) and long-term (1 year) (i.e. portal hypertensive rats) and the control rats. RESULTS: In the portal hypertensive rats, liver phospholipid synthesis significantly decreased (7.42 ± 0.50 vs 4.70 ± 0.44 nCi/g protein; P < 0.01) and was associated with an increased synthesis of free fatty acids (2.08 ± 0.14 vs 3.36 ± 0.33 nCi/g protein; P < 0.05), diacylglycerol (1.93 ± 0.2 vs 2.26 ± 0.28 nCi/g protein), triglycerides (2.40 ± 0.30 vs 4.49 ± 0.15 nCi/g protein) and cholesterol (24.28 ± 2.12 vs 57.66 ± 3.26 mg/g protein; P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Prehepatic portal hypertension in rats impairs the liver lipid metabolism.
