| 2 | Polyphenolic Compound and the Degree of Browning in Processing Apple Varieties显示文摘Polyphenolic compound in processing apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) varieties and the relationship between polyphenol content and enzymatic browning were studied to provide reference for raw material selection and processing method optimization. The content of polyphenol compound in 10 processing apple varieties (4 cider and 6 juice varieties) were analyzed using the Folin-Ciocalteu method and HPLC. The degree of browning and the activities of polyphenol oxidase were also studied. The content and proportion of the polyphenol varied depending on the variety. Bitter varieties globally showed a higher polyphenol concentration than sweet or acid varieties. Proanthocyanidins, chlorogenic acid, (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin were high-concentrated polyphenols in apple fruits. Phloridzin, the unique polyphenol of apple, was abundant in the bitter variety Frequin rouge fruit. Total polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, (+)-catechin, and phloridzin had higher correlations with browning. The correlation was low between chlorogenic acid and browning. The polyphenolic profiles were correlated with the apple types. Cider apples contained more polyphenol than juice apple varieties. | 4 | Morinda officinalis oligosaccharides increase serotonin in the brain and ameliorate depression via promoting 5-hydroxytryptophan production in the gut microbiota显示文摘Morinda officinalis oligosaccharides(MOO) are an oral drug approved in China for the treatment of depression in China. However, MOO is hardly absorbed so that their anti-depressant mechanism has not been elucidated. Here, we show that oral MOO acted on tryptophan → 5-hydroxytryptophan(5-HTP) → serotonin(5-HT) metabolic pathway in the gut microbiota. MOO could increase tryptophan hydroxylase levels in the gut microbiota which accelerated 5-HTP production from tryptophan;meanwhile, MOO inhibited 5-hydroxytryptophan decarboxylase activity, thus reduced 5-HT generation,and accumulated 5-HTP. The raised 5-HTP from the gut microbiota was absorbed to the blood, and then passed across the blood-brain barrier to improve 5-HT levels in the brain. Additionally, pentasaccharide,as one of the main components in MOO, exerted the significant anti-depressant effect through a mechanism identical to that of MOO. | 6 | Analysis of Genetic Diversity of Processing Apple Varieties显示文摘Genetic diversity of 18 processing apple varieties and two fresh varieties were evaluated using 12 simple sequence repeats (SSR) primer pairs previously identified in Malus domestica Borkh. A total of 87 alleles in 10 loci were detected using 10 polymorphic SSR markers selected within the range of 5-14 alleles per locus. All the 20 varieties could be distinguished using two primer pairs and they were divided into four groups using cluster analysis. The genetic similarity (GS) of groups analyzed using cluster analysis varied from 0.14 to 0.83. High acid variety Avrolles separated from other varieties with GS less than 0.42. The second group contained Longfeng and Dolgo from Northeast of China, the inherited genes of Chinese crab apple. The five cider varieties with high tannin contents, namely, Dabinette, Frequin rouge, Kermerrien, M.Menard, and D.Coetligne were clustered into the third group. The fourth group was mainly composed of 12 juice and fresh varieties. Principal coordinate analysis (PCO) also divided all the varieties into four groups. Juice and fresh apple varieties, Longfeng and Dolgo were clustered together, respectively, using both the analyses. Both the analyses showed there was much difference between cider and juice varieties, cider and fresh varieties, as well as Chinese crab apple and western European crab apple, whereas juice varieties and fresh varieties had a similar genetic background. | 8 | Interaction between Schwann cells and other cells during repair of peripheral nerve injury显示文摘Peripheral nerve injury(PNI)is common and,unlike damage to the central nervous system injured nerves can effectively regenerate depending on the location and severity of injury.Peripheral myelinating glia,Schwann cells(SCs),interact with various cells in and around the injury site and are important for debris elimination,repair,and nerve regeneration.Following PNI,Wallerian degeneration of the distal stump is rapidly initiated by degeneration of damaged axons followed by morphologic changes in SCs and the recruitment of circulating macrophages.Interaction with fibroblasts from the injured nerve microenvironment also plays a role in nerve repair.The replication and migration of injury-induced dedifferentiated SCs are also important in repairing the nerve.In particular,SC migration stimulates axonal regeneration and subsequent myelination of regenerated nerve fibers.This mobility increases SC interactions with other cells in the nerve and the exogenous environment,which influence SC behavior post-injury.Following PNI,SCs directly and indirectly interact with other SCs,fibroblasts,and macrophages.In addition,the inter-and intracellular mechanisms that underlie morphological and functional changes in SCs following PNI still require further research to explain known phenomena and less understood cell-specific roles in the repair of the injured peripheral nerve.This review provides a basic assessment of SC function post-PNI,as well as a more comprehensive evaluation of the literature concerning the SC interactions with macrophages and fibroblasts that can influence SC behavior and,ultimately,repair of the injured nerve. | Wen-Rui Qu Zhe Zhu Jun Liu De-Biao Song Heng Tian Bing-Peng Chen Rui Li Ling-Xiao Deng | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,1: | 8 |

| 10 | Efficient catalytic conversion of carbohydrates into 5-ethoxymethylfurfural over MIL-101-based sulfated porous coordination polymers显示文摘In this work, a series of MIL-101-SO3H(x) polymeric materials were prepared and further used for the first time as efficient heterogeneous catalysts for the conversion of fructose-based carbohydrates into 5-ethoxymethylfurfural(EMF) in a renewable mixed solvent system consisting of ethanol and tetrahydrofuran(THF). The influence of –SO3H content on the acidity as well as on the catalytic activity of the porous coordination polymers in EMF production was also studied. High EMF yields of 67.7% and 54.2% could be successively obtained from fructose and inulin in the presence of MIL-101-SO_3H(100) at 130 °C for 15 h.The catalyst could be reused for five times without significant loss of its activity and the recovery process was facile and simple. | 14 | Carbamylated erythropoietin regulates immune responses and promotes long-term kidney allograft survival through activation of PI3K/AKT signaling显示文摘Modulation of alloimmune responses is critical to improving transplant outcome and promoting long-term graft survival.To determine mechanisms by which a nonhematopoietic erythropoietin(EPO)derivative,carbamylated EPO(CEPO),regulates innate and adaptive immune cells and affects renal allograft survival,we utilized a rat model of fully MHC-mismatched kidney transplantation.CEPO administration markedly extended the survival time of kidney allografts compared with the transplant alone control group.This therapeutic effect was inhibited when the recipients were given LY294002,a selective inhibitor of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(AKT)signaling pathway or anti-EPO receptor(EPOR)antibody,in addition to CEPO.In vitro,CEPO inhibited the differentiation and function of dendritic cells and modulated their production of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines,along with activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and increasing EPOR mRNA and protein expression by these innate immune cells.Moreover,after CD4^(+)T cells were exposed to CEPO the Th1/Th2 ratio decreased and the regulatory T cell(Treg)/Th17 ratio increased.These effects were abolished by LY294002 or anti-EPOR antibody,suggesting that CEPO regulates immune responses and promotes kidney allograft survival by activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in an EPOR-dependent manner.The immunomodulatory and specific signaling pathway effects of CEPO identified in this study suggest a potential therapeutic approach to promoting kidney transplant survival. | Ning Na Daqiang Zhao Jinhua Zhang Jiaqing Wu Bin Miao Heng Li Yingxun Luo Zuofu Tang Wensheng Zhang Joseph A.Bellanti Song Guo Zheng | 2020 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1: | 4 |

| 16 | Defective mitochondrial function by mutation in THICK ALEURONE 1 encoding a mitochondrion-targeted single-stranded DNA-binding protein leads to increased aleurone cell layers and improved nutrition in rice显示文摘Cereal endosperm comprises an outer aleurone and an inner starchy endosperm.Although these two tissues have the same developmental origin,they differ in morphology,cell fate,and storage product accumulation,with the mechanism largely unknown.Here,we report the identification and characterization of rice thick aleurone 1(ta1)mutant that shows an increased number of aleurone cell layers and increased contents of nutritional factors including proteins,lipids,vitamins,dietary fibers,and micronutrients.We identified that the TA1 gene,which is expressed in embryo,aleurone,and subaleurone in caryopses,encodes a mitochondrion-targeted protein with single-stranded DNA-binding activity named OsmtSSB1.Cytological analyses revealed that the increased aleurone cell layers in ta1 originate from a developmental switch of subaleurone toward aleurone instead of starchy endosperm in the wild type.We found that TA1/OsmtSSB1 interacts with mitochondrial DNA recombinase RECA3 and DNA helicase TWINKLE,and downregulation of REC A3 or TWINKLE also leads to ta1-like phenotypes.We further showed that mutation in TA1/OsmtSSB1 causes elevated illegitimate recombinations in the mitochondrial genome,altered mitochondrial morphology,and compromised energy supply,suggesting that the OsmtSSB1-mediated mitochondrial function plays a critical role in subaleur one cell-fate determination in rice. | Dong-Qi Li Xiao-Ba Wu Hai-Feng Wang Xue Feng Shi-Juan Yan Sheng-Yang Wu Jin-Xin Liu Xue-Feng Yao Ai-Ning Bai Heng Zhao Xiu-Fen Song Lin Guo Shi-Yong Zhang Chun-Ming Liu | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,8: | 4 |

| 18 | Efficacy and safety of anlotinib plus S-1as thirdly-line or later-line treatmentin advanced non-small cell lung cancer显示文摘Objective Anlotinib,an oral vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2(VEGFR2)inhibitor,has confirmed antitumor activity in lung cancer in both in vitro and in vivo assays,and has been recommended as third-line treatment agent in non-oncogene driven non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).This prospective study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of anlotinib plus S-1 for third-or later-line treatment in patients with advanced NSCLC.Methods Patients with histologically or cytologically confirmed NSCLC,and documented disease progression following second-line chemotherapy,and/or epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor(EGFR-TKI)treatment were enrolled in this study.The patients were treated anlotinib(8 mg daily d 1–14)and S-1(60 mg/m^2 d 1–14)and the treatment was repeated every 3 weeks.Treatment was continued until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurred.The objective response rate(ORR),disease control rate(DCR),progression-free survival(PFS),and adverse events(AEs)were reviewed and evaluated.Results Forty-one patients were enrolled in the study between June 2018 and December 2018.The total ORR and DCR were 26.8%and 80.5%,respectively.The median PFS was 5.2 months[95%confidence interval(CI),3.9 to 6.6 months].In the univariate analysis,there was a significant difference in the median PFS between patients with brain metastases and those without brain metastases(4.8 months vs 5.9 months,respectively;P=0.039).The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG)performance status(P=0.002),lines of therapy(P=0.015),and therapeutic evaluation(P=0.014)were independent factors that influenced PFS.The most common AEs were hypertension,proteinuria,myelosuppression,gastrointestinal reactions,fatigue,and mucositis.Conclusion Anlotinib plus S-1 is an effective and safe regimen for advanced NSCLC as third-or later-line therapy. | Heng Cao Kai Liang Peng Liu Jing Wang Yuanyuan Ji Lujuan Xu Weilong Wu Shengnan Guo Xuekun Song Yonggui Hong | 2020 | Oncology and Translational Medicine2020,6,1: | 4 |

| 20 | Personalized neoantigen pulsed dendritic cell vaccine for advanced lung cancer显示文摘Neoantigens are considered to be ultimate target of tumor immunotherapy due to their high tumor specificity and immunogenicity.Dendritic cell(DCs)vaccines based on neoantigens have exciting effects in treatment of some malignant tumors and are a promising therapeutic modality.Lung cancer is a lethal disease with the highest morbidity and mortality rate in the world.Despite the rapid development of targeted therapy and immune checkpoint inhibitors for lung cancer in recent years,their efficacy is still unsatisfactory overall.Therefore,there is an urgent unmet clinical need for lung cancer treatment.Here,we attempted to treat lung cancer using a personalized neoantigen peptide-pulsed autologous DC vaccine and conducted a single-arm,2 medical centers,pilot study initiated by the investigator(ChiCTR-ONC 16009100,NCT02956551).The patients enrolled were patients with heavily treated metastatic lung cancer.Candidate neoantigens were derived from whole-exome sequencing and RNA sequencing of fresh biopsy tissues as well as bioinformatics analysis.A total of 12 patients were enrolled in this study.A total of 85 vaccine treatments were administered with a median value of 5 doses/person(range:3-14 doses/person).In total,12-30 peptide-based neoantigens were selected for each patient.AIl treatment-related adverse events were grade 1-2 and there were no delays in dosing due to toxic effects.The objective effectiveness rate was 25%;the disease control rate was 75%;the median progression-free survival was 5.5 months and the median overall survival was 7.9 months.This study provides new evidence for neoantigen vaccine therapy and new therapeutic opportunities for lung cancer treatment. | Zhenyu Ding Qing Li Rui Zhang Li Xie Yang shu Song Gao Peipei Wang Xiaoqing Su Yun Qin Yuelan Wang Juemin Fang Zhongzheng Zhu Xuyang Xia Guochao Wei Hui Wang Hong Qian Xianling Guo Zhibo Gao Yu Wang Yuquan Wei Qing Xu Heng Xu Li Yang | 2021 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,2: | 3 |
