| 6 | An ab initio study on boundaries for characterizing cooperative effect of hydrogen bonds by intermolecular compression显示文摘The cooperative effect plays a significant role in understanding the intermolecular donor-acceptor interactions of hydrogen bonds(H-bonds, D-H···A). Here, using the coupled-cluster singles and doubles with perturbative triple excitations(CCSD(T)) method of high-precision ab initio calculations, we show that the intermolecular H-bonded systems with different D and A atoms reproduce the structural changes predicted by the well-known cooperative effect upon intermolecular compression. That is, with decreasing intermolecular distance, the D-H bond length first increases and then decreases, while the H···A distance decreases. On the contrary, when D and A are the same, as the intermolecular distance decreases, the D-H bond length decreases without increasing. This obvious difference means that the cooperative effect may not be generally characterized by intermolecular compression. Interestingly, further analyses of many intermolecular systems confirm that this failure has boundaries, i.e., cooperative systems at their respective equilibrium positions have a smaller core-valence bifurcation(CVB) index(<0.022) and stronger binding energies(>0.25 eV), showing a clear linear inverse relationship related to H-bond strength. | 7 | Dynein axonemal heavy chain 10 deficiency causes primary ciliary dyskinesia in humans and mice显示文摘Primary ciliary dyskinesia(PCD)is a congenital,motile ciliopathy with pleiotropic symptoms.Although nearly 50 causative genes have been identified,they only account for approximately 70%of definitive PCD cases.Dynein axonemal heavy chain 10(DNAH10)encodes a subunit of the inner arm dynein heavy chain in motile cilia and sperm flagella.Based on the common axoneme structure of motile cilia and sperm flagella,DNAH10 variants are likely to cause PCD.Using exome sequencing,we identified a novel DNAH10 homozygous variant(c.589C>T,p.R197W)in a patient with PCD from a consanguineous family.The patient manifested sinusitis,bronchiectasis,situs inversus,and asthenoteratozoospermia.Immunostaining analysis showed the absence of DNAH10 and DNALI1 in the respiratory cilia,and transmission electron microscopy revealed strikingly disordered axoneme 9+2 architecture and inner dynein arm defects in the respiratory cilia and sperm flagella.Subsequently,animal models of Dnah10-knockin mice harboring missense variants and Dnah10-knockout mice recapitulated the phenotypes of PCD,including chronic respiratory infection,male infertility,and hydrocephalus.To the best of our knowledge,this study is the first to report DNAH10 deficiency related to PCD in human and mouse models,which suggests that DNAH10 recessive mutation is causative of PCD. | Rongchun Wang Danhui Yang Chaofeng Tu Cheng Lei Shuizi Ding Ting Guo Lin Wang Ying Liu Chenyang Lu Binyi Yang Shi Ouyang Ke Gong Zhiping Tan Yun Deng Yueqiu Tan Jie Qing Hong Luo | 2023 | Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,5: | 0 |
| 8 | Adjuvant chemotherapy versus adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy after radical surgery for early-stage cervical cancer:a randomized,non-inferiority,multicenter trial显示文摘We conducted a prospective study to assess the non-inferiority of adjuvant chemotherapy alone versus adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) as an alternative strategy for patients with early-stage (FIGO 2009 stage IB–IIA) cervical cancer having risk factors after surgery. The condition was assessed in terms of prognosis, adverse effects, and quality of life. This randomized trial involved nine centers across China. Eligible patients were randomized to receive adjuvant chemotherapy or CCRT after surgery. The primary end-point was progression-free survival (PFS). From December 2012 to December 2014, 337 patients were subjected to randomization. Final analysis included 329 patients, including 165 in the adjuvant chemotherapy group and 164 in the adjuvant CCRT group. The median follow-up was 72.1 months. The three-year PFS rates were both 91.9%, and the five-year OS was 90.6% versus 90.0% in adjuvant chemotherapy and CCRT groups, respectively. No significant differences were observed in the PFS or OS between groups. The adjusted HR for PFS was 0.854 (95% confidence interval 0.415–1.757;P = 0.667) favoring adjuvant chemotherapy, excluding the predefined non-inferiority boundary of 1.9. The chemotherapy group showed a tendency toward good quality of life. In comparison with post-operative adjuvant CCRT, adjuvant chemotherapy treatment showed non-inferior efficacy in patients with early-stage cervical cancer having pathological risk factors. | 10 | Export fluctuation and overcapacity in China’s manufacturing industry--The inspection of the causes of excess capacity from the perspective of external demand显示文摘Intuitively speaking,there is an inverse proportional relationship between exports and overcapacity,which means in export’s busy season enterprises would expand output and improve capacity utilisation rate but control yields to avoid dull sale in slack season,causing exacerbated excess capacity.However,this is just the reflections of“sales effect”on overcapacity by export fluctuation.For some enterprises,there is indeed“competition effect”which may alleviate overcapacity because enterprises face even more fierce domestic competition for the sake of weak exports and may increase the utilisation load of existing capacity in order to cut costs.A test is conducted in this paper to verify the relationship between export fluctuation and excess capacity based on data of China's manufacturing industry from 2001 to 2013.The overall results indicate that export fluctuation is not the significant cause for excess capacity.In the small and medium-sized enterprises or in industries with higher proportion of non-state capital,the negative relationship between exports and excess capacity is more obvious,with“sales effect”taking a dominant position.On the other hand,under the influence of“competition effect”,the relationship between the two may be positive.Thus,external demand shocks exert different influence on the alleviation of excess capacity of different industries,and extensively driven exports may not have anticipated effect on the dissolution of the excess capacity.To regulate overcapacity with the aid of external market,a fair and orderly competition environment should be provided to the export subjects of different size and ownerships. | Liu Hang Li Ping Yang Danhui | 2017 | China Finance and Economic Review2017,6,1: | 0 |
| 11 | MicroRNA-33/33^(*) inhibit the activation of MAVS through AMPK in antiviral innate immunity显示文摘Innate immunity plays a prominent role in the host defense against pathogens and must be precisely regulated.As vital orchestrators in cholesterol homeostasis,microRNA-33/33*have been widely investigated in cellular metabolism.However,their role in antiviral innate immunity is largely unknown.Here,we report that VSV stimulation decreased the expression of miR-33/33*through an IFNAR-dependent manner in macrophages.Overexpression of miR-33/33*resulted in impaired RIG-I signaling,enhancing viral load and lethality whereas attenuating type I interferon production both in vitro and in vivo.In addition,miR-33/33*specifically prevented the mitochondrial adaptor mitochondrial antiviral-signaling protein(MAVS)from forming activated aggregates by targeting adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase(AMPK),subsequently impeding the mitophagy-mediated elimination of damaged mitochondria and disturbing mitochondrial homeostasis which is indispensable for efficient MAVS activation.Our findings establish miR-33/33*as negative modulators of the RNA virus-triggered innate immune response and identify a previously unknown regulatory mechanism linking mitochondrial homeostasis with antiviral signaling pathways. | Danhui Liu Qinchun Tan Jie Zhu Yuanyuan Zhang Yue Xue Yinjing Song Yang Liu Qingqing Wang Lihua Lai | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,6: | 0 |
| 12 | Manufacturing Localization,Technology Backfire,and Economic De-globalization显示文摘Since the global financial crisis,global value chain(GVC)have been contracting amid the trend toward economic de-globalization.With GVC participation rate in mind as the core indicator of economic de-globalization,in this paper we create a multi-country general equilibrium model to characterize the mechanism by which manufacturing localization affects GVC participation rate.Our theoretical derivation shows that changes in the local manufacturing status of final products in various countries directly influence the GVC participation rate of those countries.When the local proportion of a country’s final products reaches a certain level,rising local proportion of intermediate inputs,economic growth below the world average level,and technology progress all cause the country’s GVC participation rate to decline,giving rise to de-globalization at the manufacturing and trade levels.We further provide a comprehensive interpretation based on an empirical test of the deep-seated causes of economic de-globalization in relation to such economic phenomena as increasing trade concentration,the“technology backlash”effect of the new industrial revolution,and economic growth driven by the combined forces of trade protectionism and quantitative easing. | Qu Shenning Yang Danhui | 2023 | China Economist2023,18,1: | 0 |
