| 1 | Leptin treatment ameliorates acute lung injury in rats with cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis显示文摘AIM:To determine the effect of exogenous leptin on acute lung injury (ALI) in cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis (AP). METHODS:Forty-eight rats were randomly divided into 3 groups. AP was induced by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of cerulein (50 μg/kg) four times,at 1 h intervals. The rats received a single i.p. injection of 10 μg/kg leptin (leptin group) or 2 mL saline (AP group) after cerulein injections. In the sham group,animals were given a single i.p. injection of 2 mL saline. Experimental samples were collected for biochemical and histological evaluations at 24 h and 48 h after the induction of AP or saline administration. Blood samples were obtained for the determination of amylase,lipase,tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a,interleukin (IL)-1β,macrophage inflammatory peptide (MIP)-2 and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule (sICAM)-1 levels,while pancreatic and lung tissues were removed for myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity,nitric oxide (NOx) level,CD40 expression and histological evaluation. RESULTS:Cerulein injection caused severe AP,confirmed by an increase in serum amylase and lipase levels,histopathological findings of severe AP,and pancreatic MPO activity,compared to the values obtained in the sham group. In the leptin group,serum levels of MIP-2,sICMA-1,TNF-a,and IL-1b,pancreatic MPO activity,CD40 expression in pancreas and lung tissues,and NOx level in the lung tissue were lower compared to those in the AP group. Histologically,pancreatic and lungdamage was less severe following leptin administration. | 4 | Effects of resveratrol on hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress in embryonic neural stem cells显示文摘Resveratrol,a natural phenolic compound,has been shown to prevent cardiovascular diseases and cancer and exhibit neuroprotective effects.In this study,we examined the neuroprotective and antioxidant effects of resveratrol against hydrogen peroxide in embryonic neural stem cells.Hydrogen peroxide treatment alone increased catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities but did not change superoxide dismutase levels compared with hydrogen peroxide + resveratrol treatment.Nitric oxide synthase activity and concomitant nitric oxide levels increased in response to hydrogen peroxide treatment.Conversely,resveratrol treatment decreased nitric oxide synthase activity and nitric oxide levels.Resveratrol also attenuated hydrogen peroxide-induced nuclear or mitochondrial DNA damage.We propose that resveratrol may be a promising agent for protecting embryonic neural stem cells because of its potential to decrease oxidative stress by inducing higher activity of antioxidant enzymes,decreasing nitric oxide production and nitric oxide synthase activity,and alleviating both nuclear and mitochondrial DNA damage. | Sibel Konyalioglu Guliz Armagan Ayfer Yalcin Cigdem Atalayin Taner Dagci | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013，8，6： | 5 |

| 7 | Robotic transoral vestibular parathyroidectomy:Two case reports and review of literature显示文摘Advances in preoperative localization studies and de-mands for scarless surgery have promoted the inves-tigation for remote techniques in parathyroid surgery. Transoral vestibular approach seems to provide the most comfortable and safest access to the neck. In this paper, we report our initial experience with robotic transoral ves-tibular parathyroidectomy(RTVP) in four patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. The surgery was perfor-med with the Da Vinci system through three trocars intro-duced from the lower lip vestibule. The procedure was converted to open in two patients due to inappropriate preoperative localization. The mean operative time was 169 min. No postoperative complications were seen. Patients were discharged on postoperative day 1. RTVP is a feasible and safe technique, which allows better surgical exposure and manipulation of the instruments. The advantages of transoral vestibular approach can be enhanced by robotics. | 10 | Comparison of Milan and UCSF criteria for liver transplantation to treat hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To assess the validity of the Milan and University of California San Francisco(UCSF) criteria and examine the long-term outcome of orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in a single-center study.METHODS:This study is a retrospective review of prospectively collected data.Between 1998 and 2009,56 of 356 OLTs were performed in patients with HCC.Based on pathological examination of liver explants,patients were retrospectively categorized into 3 groups:Milan +(n = 34),Milan-/UCSF +(n = 7) and UCSF-(n = 14).RESULTS:Median follow-up period was 39.5(1-124) mo.The 5-year overall survival rates in the Milan +,Milan-/UCSF + and UCSF-groups were 87.7%,53.6% and 33.3%,respectively(P < 0.000).Within these groups,tumor recurrence was determined in 5.8%,14.3% and 40% of patients,respectively(P < 0.011).Additionally,the presence of microvascular invasion within the explanted liver had a negative effect on the 5-year disease free survival(74.7% vs 46.7%,P < 0.044).CONCLUSION:The Milan criteria are reliable in the selection of suitable candidates for OLT for the treatment of HCC.For cases of OLT involving living donors,the UCSF criteria may be applied. | Tarkan Unek Sedat Karademir Naciye Cigdem Arslan Tufan Egeli Gulsen Atasoy Ozgul Sagol Funda Obuz Ibrahim Astarcioglu | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011，17，37： | 2 |
