| 1 | Differing coping mechanisms, stress level and anorectal physiology in patients with functional constipation显示文摘AIM: To investigate coping mechanisms, constipation symptoms and anorectal physiology in 80 constipated subjects and 18 controls.METHODS: Constipation was diagnosed by Rome Ⅱ criteria.Coping ability and anxiety/depression were assessed by validated questionnaires. Transit time and balloon distension test were performed.RESULTS: 34.5% patients were classified as slow transit type of constipation. The total colonic transit time (56 h vs 10 h, P<0.0001) and rectal sensation including urge sensation (79 mL vs 63 mL, P = 0.019) and maximum tolerable volume (110 mL vs95 mL, P = 0.03) differed in patients and controls. Constipated subjects had significantly higher anxiety and depression scores and lower SF-36 scores in all categories. They also demonstrated higher scores of'monitoring' coping strategy (14+6 vs9+3, P = 0.001),which correlated with the rectal distension sensation (P = 0.005), urge sensation (P=0.002), and maximum tolerable volume (P = 0.035). Thus, creating an environment where power and information flow seamlessly in real time to enable reliable and economically viable energy delivery, the advent of Internet of Energy(IoE) as well as the rising of Internet of Things(IoT) based smart systems.The evolution of IT to Io T has shown that an information network can be connected in an autonomous way via routers from operating system(OS) based computers and devices to build a highly intelligent eco-system. Conceptually, we are applying the same methodology to the Io E concept so that Energy Operating System(EOS) based assets and devices can be developed into a distributed energy network via energy gateway and self-organized into a smart energy eco-system.This paper introduces a laboratory based IIo T driven software and controls platform developed on the NICE Nano-grid as part of a NICE smart system Initiative for Shenhua group. | 3 | Whole-system thinking, development control, key barriers and promotion mechanism for EV development显示文摘Electric vehicles(EVs)have received significant attention because of the potential energy savings and emission reductions they enable.However,current studies and demonstrations have focused mainly on specific technologies and equipment types,which cannot in themselves solve the predicaments facing EVs.This study points out that EVs will form a large,complex system that needs to be optimized over different aspects to compete with traditional vehicles.Therefore,wholesystem thinking is needed to support the development control of EVs,with a broader scope than operational control,and the core issue is the interaction between EVs and power grid,including their coordinated development and operational management.For development control of EVs,a target system and a step-wise optimization method are presented,as well as the basic principles for designing the target system.There are two key barriers in EVs’development:the research and mass production of highperformance power batteries,and the formulation of a favorable mechanism to capture benefits and encourage development.To address the problems of EV development,a promotion method that combines franchising with moderate competition is proposed.The concepts and methods developed in this study can facilitate the research and development of EVs. | Chunlin GUO Ching Chuen CHAN | 2015 | Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2015,3,2: | 9 |
| 4 | Optimal Investment and Premium Control in a Nonlinear Diffusion Model显示文摘This paper considers the optimal investment and premium control problem in a diffusion approximation to a non-homogeneous compound Poisson process. In the nonlinear diffusion model, it is assumed that there is an unspecified monotone function describing the relationship between the safety loading of premium and the time-varying claim arrival rate. Hence, in addition to the investment control, the premium rate can be served as a control variable in the optimization problem. Specifically, the problem is investigated in two cases:(i) maximizing the expected utility of terminal wealth, and(ii) minimizing the probability of ruin respectively.In both cases, some properties of the value functions are derived, and closed-form expressions for the optimal policies and the value functions are obtained. The results show that the optimal investment policy and the optimal premium control policy are dependent on each other. Most interestingly, as an example, we show that the nonlinear diffusion model reduces to a diffusion model with a quadratic drift coefficient when the function associated with the premium rate and the claim arrival rate takes a special form. | 5 | Polo-like kinase 1,a new therapeutic target in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To investigate the role of polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) as a therapeutic target for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).METHODS:PLK1 gene expression was evaluated in HCC tissue and HCC cell lines.Gene knockdown with short-interfering RNA (siRNA) was used to study PLK1 gene and protein expression using real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting,and cell proliferation using 3-(4,5-dim ethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2(4-sulf ophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium (MTS) and bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) assays.Apoptosis was evaluated using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay,and caspase-inhibition assay.Huh-7 cells were transplanted into nude mice and co-cultured with PLK1 siRNA or control siRNA,and tumor progression was compared with controls.RESULTS:RT-PCR showed that PLK1 was overexpressed 12-fold in tumor samples compared with controls,and also was overexpressed in Huh-7 cells.siRNA against PLK1 showed a reduction in PLK1 gene and protein expression of up to 96% in Huh-7 cells,and a reduction in cell proliferation by 68% and 92% in MTS and BrdU cell proliferation assays,respectively.There was a 3-fold increase in apoptosis events,and TUNEL staining and caspase-3 assays suggested that this was caspase-independent.The pan-caspase inhibitor Z-VAD-FMK was unable to rescue the apoptotic cells.Immnofluorescence co-localized endonuclease-G to fragmented chromosomes,implicating it in apoptosis.Huh-7 cells transplanted subcutaneously into nude mice showed tumor regression in siPLK1-treated mice,but not in controls.CONCLUSION:Knockdown of PLK1 overexpression in HCC was shown to be a potential therapeutic target,leading to apoptosis through the endonuclease-G pathway. | Wei Chuen Mok Shanthi Wasser Theresa Tan Seng Gee Lim | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,27: | 4 |

| 10 | Antralization at the edge of proximal gastric ulcers:Does Helicobacter pylori infection play a role?显示文摘AIM: To determine the prevalence of antralization at the edge of proximal gastric ulcers, and the effect ofH. pylori eradication on the mucosal appearances.
METHODS: Biopsies were taken from the antrum, body and the ulcer edge of patients with benign proximal gastric ulcers before and one year after treatment. Gastric mucosa was classified as antral, transitional or body type.H. pylori positive patients receivedeither triple therapy, or omeprazole.
RESULTS: Patients with index ulcers in the incisura, body or fundus (n=116) were analyzed. Antral-type mucosa was more prevalent at the ulcer edge inH. pylori-positive patients thanH.pylori-negative patients (93% vs 60%, OR=8.95,95%CI: 2.47-32.4, P=0.001). At one year, there was a significant reduction in the prevalence of antralization (from 93 % to 61%, P=0.004) at the ulcer edge in patients with H. pyloribeing eradicated. However, there was no difference in the prevalence of antralization at the ulcer edge in those with persistent infection.
