| 1 | Advances in biomaterials and regenerative medicine for primary ovarian insufficiency therapy显示文摘Primary ovarian insufficiency(POI)is an ovarian dysfunction that affects more than 1%of women and is characterized by hormone imbalances that afflict women before the age of 40.The typical perimenopausal symptoms result from abnormal levels of sex hormones,especially estrogen.The most prevalent treatment is hormone replacement therapy(HRT),which can relieve symptoms and improve quality of life.However,HRT cannot restore ovarian functions,including secretion,ovulation,and fertility.Recently,as part of a developing field of regenerative medicine,stem cell therapy has been proposed for the treatment of POI.Thus,we recapitulate the literature focusing on the use of stem cells and biomaterials for POI treatment,and sum up the underlying mechanisms of action.A thorough understanding of the work already done can aid in the development of guidelines for future translational applications and clinical trials that aim to cure POI by using regenerative medicine and biomedical engineering strategies. | Sichen Zhang Dashuai Zhu Xuan Mei Zhenhua Li Junlang Li Mengjie Xie Halle Jiang Williams Lutz Shaowei Wang Ke Cheng | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,7: | 9 |

| 6 | Truncated glycoprotein E of varicella-zoster virus is an ideal immunogen for Escherichia coli-based vaccine design显示文摘Varicella-zoster virus(VZV)is a highly infectious agent responsible for both varicella and herpes zoster disease.Despite high efficacy,there remain safety and accessibility concerns with the licensed vaccines.Here,we sought to produce a VZV g E immunogen using an E.coli expression system.We found that the soluble expression and yield of g E protein could be enhanced via C-terminal truncations to the protein,thereby facilitating a robust and scalable purification process for the purpose of vaccine manufacturing.The lead truncated g E(aa 31–358),hereafter referred to as tg E,was a homogenous monomer in solution and showed excellent antigenicity.Finally,we assessed and compared the immunogenicity of tg E with commercial v Oka LAV and Shingrix vaccine.We found that aluminum-adjuvanted tg E was immunogenic as compared with v Oka LAV.When adjuvanted with AS01B,a two-dose immunization of tg E showed comparable or better potency in antibody responses and cell-mediated immunity with those of the Shingrix vaccine at the same dosage,especially in terms of the proportion of IFN-γ-expressing CD4^(+)T cells.In conclusion,this method of E.coli-mediate tg E expression offers a cost-effective and scalable strategy to generate an ideal VZV g E immunogen for the development of both varicella and zoster vaccines. | Tingting Chen Jie Sun Sibo Zhang Tingting Li Liqin Liu Wenhui Xue Lizhi Zhou Siting Liang Zhili Yu Qingbing Zheng Hai Yu Tong Cheng Jun Zhang Ying Gu Shaowei Li Ningshao Xia | 2023 | Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,4: | 1 |

| 9 | A trifunctional contraceptive gel enhances the safety and quality of sexual intercourse显示文摘Current contraceptive methods come with a number of drawbacks,including low efficacy,in the case of commercial contraceptive gels,and a reduction in the quality of sexual intercourse,in the case of condoms.Adding pharmacologically-active agents to contraceptive gels holds the potential to improve sexual experience,and hardbor safety and hygiene.In this study,we fabricated a carbomer-based contraceptive gel consisting of three agents:tenofovir,gossypol acetate,and nitroglycerin(TGN),with pH adjusted to 4.5(to be compatible with the vagina).In vitro,the gossypol component of the contraceptive gel proved to be an effective spermicide.When the concentration of gossypol acetate was 10 mg/ml,the spermicidal ability reached 100%after 30 s.In addition,tenofovir in the gel significantly inhibited lentiviral transfection efficiency in cell-containing media.In 6 pairs of rats,the gel successfully prevented all females from conceiving after successful mating.Moreover,increased sexual frequency and enhanced erection,which were promoted by the nitroglycerin in the components,were observed in male rats that had the gel applied to their penises.This novel TGN contraceptive gel yielded a higher contraceptive success rate than that of the commercial contraceptive gel(Contragel®).In addition,it has the added benefits to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and improve male libido and erectile function during sexual intercourse.Combining three FDA-approved and marketed agents together,our trifunctional TGN gel has a great potential for further translation and commercialization. | Mengjie Xie Junlang Li Sichen Zhang Dashuai Zhu Xuan Mei Zhenzhen Wang Xiao Cheng Zhenhua Li Shaowei Wang Ke Cheng | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,6: | 1 |

| 13 | Improvement of hydrogen permeation barrier performance by iron sulphide surface films显示文摘Fe–S compounds with hexagonal crystal structure are potential hydrogen permeation barrier during H2S corrosion. Hexagonal system Fe–S films were prepared on carbon steel through corrosion and CVD deposition, and the barrier effect of different Fe–S films on hydrogen permeation was tested using electrochemical hydrogen permeation method. After that, the electrical properties of Fe–S compound during phase transformation were measured using thermoelectric measurement system. Results show that the mackinawite has no obvious barrier effect on hydrogen penetration, as a p-type semiconductor, and pyrrhotite (including troilite) has obvious barrier effect on hydrogen penetration,as an n-type semiconductor. Hydrogen permeation tests showed peak permeation performance when the surface was deposited with a continuous film of pyrrhotite (Fe_(1–x)S) and troilite.
