1Study on early warning index of spatial deformation for high concrete dam显示文摘Owing to the deficiency in early warning for high concrete dam,a formula was established to characterize the deformation behavior of high concrete dam as a whole.The early warning index of spatial deformation was calculated by low probability principle on the basis of the deformation entropy formula proposed.The steps were as follows.Firstly,the probability method was utilized to define the degree of order and degree of chaos for each survey point.Secondly,the weight distribution among the survey points was calculated by projection pursuit analysis.Thirdly,the formula of holistic deformation entropy,which can represent the degree of order of high concrete dam,was established on the basis of synergetics and information entropy.Lastly,the early warning index of deformation entropy was computed by low probability method based on series of calculated deformation entropy values.An example showed that the dynamic property of deformation entropy is in accordance with both environmental variables and deflection deformation.Moreover,deformation entropy can be used to improve warning ability and safety management for high concrete dam.LEI Peng CHANG XiaoLin XIAO Feng ZHANG GuiJin SU HuaiZhi 2011Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,6:23
2Influence of differential settlement on pavement structure of widened roads based on large-scale model test显示文摘This study introduced at first the background of numerous highway widening projects that have been developed in recent years in China.Using a large ground settlement simulator and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) strain sensor network system,a large-scale model test,with a similarity ratio of 1:2,was performed to analyze the influence of differential settlement between new and old subgrades on pavement structure under loading condition.The result shows that excessive differential settlement can cause considerable tensile strain in the pavement structure of a widened road,for which a maximum value (S) of 6 cm is recommended.Under the repetitive load,the top layers of pavement structure are subjected to the alternate action of tensile and compressive strains,which would eventually lead to a fatigue failure of the pavement.However,application of geogrid to the splice between the new and the old roads can reduce differential settlement to a limited extent.The new subgrade of a widened road is vulnerable to the influence of dynamic load transferred from the above pavement structures.While for the old subgrade,due to its comparatively high stiffness,it can well spread the load on the pavement statically or dynamically.The test also shows that application of geogrid can effectively prevent or defer the failure of pavement structure.With geogrid,the modulus of resilience of the subgrade is increased and inhomogeneous deformation can be reduced;therefore,the stress/strain distribution in pavement structure under loading condition becomes uniform.The results obtained in this context are expected to provide a helpful reference for structural design and maintenance strategy for future highway widening projects.Xiaolin Weng1,2,Wei Wang3 1 Key Laboratory for Special Area Highway Engineering of Ministry of Education,Chang’an University,Xi’an,710064,China 2 CCCC First Highway Consultants Co.,Ltd.,Xi’an,710068,China 3 Henan Vocational and Technical College of Communications,Zhengzhou,450005,China 2011Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2011,3,1:11

4Mycorrhizal symbiosis modulates the rhizosphere microbiota to promote rhizobia–legume symbiosis显示文摘Plants establish symbioses with mutualistic fungi,such as arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM)fungi,and bacteria,such as rhizobia,to exchange key nutrients and thrive.Plants and symbionts have coevolved and represent vital components of terrestrial ecosystems.Plants employ an ancestral AM signaling pathway to establish intracellular symbioses,including the legume–rhizobia symbiosis,in their roots.Nevertheless,the relationship between the AM and rhizobial symbioses in native soil is poorly understood.Here,we examined how these distinct symbioses affect root-associated bacterial communities in Medicago truncatula by performing quantitative microbiota profiling(QMP)of 16S rRNA genes.We found that M.truncatula mutants that cannot establish AM or rhizobia symbiosis have an altered microbial load(quantitative abundance)in the rhizosphere and roots,and in particular that AM symbiosis is required to assemble a normal quantitative root-associated microbiota in native soil.Moreover,quantitative microbial co-abundance network analyses revealed that AM symbiosis affects Rhizobiales hubs among plant microbiota and benefits the plant holobiont.Through QMP of rhizobial rpoB and AM fungal SSU rRNA genes,we revealed a new layer of interaction whereby AM symbiosis promotes rhizobia accumulation in the rhizosphere of M.truncatula.We further showed that AM symbiosis-conditioned microbial communities within the M.truncatula rhizosphere could promote nodulation in different legume plants in native soil.Given that the AM and rhizobial symbioses are critical for crop growth,our findings might inform strategies to improve agricultural management.Moreover,our work sheds light on the co-evolution of these intracellular symbioses during plant adaptation to native soil conditions.Xiaolin Wang Huan Feng Yayu Wang Mingxing Wang Xingguang Xie Huizhong Chang Like Wang Jicheng Qu Kai Sun Wei He Chunyan Wang Chuanchao Dai Zhaohui Chu Changfu Tian Nan Yu Xuebin Zhang Huan Liu Ertao Wang 2021Molecular Plant2021,14,3:6
5Effects of water-based binders on electrochemical performance of manganese dioxide cathode in mild aqueous zinc batteries显示文摘In the majority of rechargeable batteries including lithium-ion batteries,polyvinylidene fluoride(PVdF)binders are the most commonly used binder for both anode and cathode.However,using PVdF binder requires the organic solvent of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone which is expensive,volatile,combustible,toxic,and has poor recyclability.Therefore,switching to aqueous electrode processing routes with non-toxic binders would provide a great leap forward towards the realization of ideally fully sustainable and environmentally friendly electrochemical energy storage devices.Various water-soluble binders(aqueous binders)were characterized and compared to the performance of conventional PVdF.Our study demonstrates that the electrochemical performance of Zn/MnO_(2) aqueous batteries is significantly improved by using sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC)binder.In addition,CMC binders offer desirable adhesion,good wettability,homogeneous material distribution,and strong chemical stability at certain pH levels(3.5-5)without any decomposition for long-cycle life.Hee Jung Chang Ismael A.Rodriguez-Pere Matthew Fayette Nathan L.Canfield Huilin Pan Daiwon Choi Xiaolin Li David Reed 2021Carbon Energy2021,3,3:5
6A first-principles study of the structural,electronic and elastic properties of solid nitromethane under pressure显示文摘The structural,electronic and elastic properties of solid nitromethane are investigated under pressure by performing first-principles density functional theory(DFT)calculations within the generalized gradient approximation(GGA)and the local density approximation(LDA).The obtained ground state structure properties are found to be consistent with existing experimental and theoretical results.The pressure-induced variations of structure parameters(a,b,c and V)indicate that the solid nitromethane has an anisotropic compressibility,and the compression along the c direction is more difficult than along a and b directions.From the vibration curves of intermolecular bond length and bond angle,we find that the C—N bond is the most sensitive among these bonds under pressure,suggesting that the C—N bonds may be broken first under external loading.The influence of pressure on the electronic properties of solid NM has been studied,indicating that solid NM is an insulating compound with a large indirect band gap and tends to be a semiconductor with increasing pressure.Finally,we predict the elastic constants and their pressure dependence for the solid NM with the bulk modulus,Young’s modulus,shear modulus and the Poisson’s ratio derived.CHANG Jing ZHOU XiaoLin ZHAO GuoPing WANG Li 2013Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2013,56,10:4
7An Examination of the Predictability of Tropical Cyclone Genesis in High-Resolution Coupled Models with Dynamically Downscaled Coupled Data Assimilation Initialization显示文摘Predicting tropical cyclone(TC)genesis is of great societal importance but scientifically challenging.It requires fineresolution coupled models that properly represent air−sea interactions in the atmospheric responses to local warm sea surface temperatures and feedbacks,with aid from coherent coupled initialization.This study uses three sets of highresolution regional coupled models(RCMs)covering the Asia−Pacific(AP)region initialized with local observations and dynamically downscaled coupled data assimilation to evaluate the predictability of TC genesis in the West Pacific.The APRCMs consist of three sets of high-resolution configurations of the Weather Research and Forecasting−Regional Ocean Model System(WRF-ROMS):27-km WRF with 9-km ROMS,and 9-km WRF with 3-km ROMS.In this study,a 9-km WRF with 9-km ROMS coupled model system is also used in a case test for the predictability of TC genesis.Since the local sea surface temperatures and wind shear conditions that favor TC formation are better resolved,the enhanced-resolution coupled model tends to improve the predictability of TC genesis,which could be further improved by improving planetary boundary layer physics,thus resolving better air−sea and air−land interactions.Mingkui LI Shaoqing ZHANG Lixin WU Xiaopei LIN Ping CHANG Gohkan DANABASOGLU Zhiqiang WEI Xiaolin YU Huiqin HU Xiaohui MA Weiwei MA Haoran ZHAO Dongning JIA Xin LIU Kai MAO Youwei MA Yingjing JIANG Xue WANG Guangliang LIU Yuhu CHEN 2020Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2020,37,9:4
8A combined continuous-discontinuous approach for failure process of quasi-brittle materials显示文摘Rock,concrete and other geo-materials,due to the presence of microstructural inhomogeneity,their fracture processes and damage characteristics are associated with the distribution of micro-cracks contained in the materials.In this study,by introducing a cohesive zone model based on fracture mechanics into the framework of deformable discrete element method,a continuous-discontinuous coupling analysis approach for simulating the fracture of quasi-brittle materials is proposed.The cohesive interface elements are inserted into certain engineering or research region.It is assumed that damage and fracture occur only in the interface elements,while bulk material is modeled to be elastic.The Mohr-Coulomb criterion with tension cut-off is adopted as the damage initiation criterion,and a scalar damage variable representing damage in the material is used to describe the rate at which the material stiffness is degraded.Cracks are simulated explicitly by the failure of the interface elements.Numerical simulations are performed in order to validate the suggested method.Partial applications are also listed.The results show that this method provides a simple but effective tool for the simulation of crack initiation and propagation,and it can reflect the whole process of quasi-brittle materials from small deformation to large deformation and failure.CHANG XiaoLin HU Chao ZHOU Wei MA Gang ZHANG Chao 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,3:3

11An adaptive cell-based domain integration method for treatment of domain integrals in 3D boundary element method for potential and elasticity problems显示文摘An adaptive cell-based domain integration method(CDIM) is proposed for the treatment of domain integrals in 3D boundary element method(BEM). The domain integrals are computed in background cells rather than volume elements. The cells are created from the boundary elements based on an adaptive oct-tree structure and no other discretization is needed. Cells containing the boundary elements are subdivided into smaller sub-cells adaptively according to the sizes and levels of the boundary elements; and the sub-cells outside the domain are deleted to obtain the desired accuracy.
