Thermal decomposition and kinetics of plastic bonded explosives based on mixture of HMX and TATB with polymer matrices显示文摘This work describes thermal decomposition behaviour of plastic bonded explosives(PBXs) based on mixture of 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocane(HMX) and 2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene(TATB)with Viton A as polymer binder. Thermal decomposition of PBXs was undertaken by applying simultaneous thermal analysis(STA) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) to investigate influence of the HMX amount on thermal behavior and its kinetics. Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) indicated that the thermal decomposition of PBXs based on mixture of HMX and TATB was occurred in a three-steps. The first step was mainly due to decomposition of HMX. The second step was ascribed due to decomposition of TATB, while the third step was occurred due to decomposition of the polymer matrices. The thermal decomposition % was increased with increasing HMX amount. The kinetics related to thermal decomposition were investigated under non-isothermal for a single heating rate measurement. The variation in the activation energy of PBXs based on mixture of HMX and TATB was observed with varying the HMX amount. The kinetics from the results of TGA data at various heating rates under non-isothermal conditions were also calculated by Flynn—Wall—Ozawa(FWO) and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose(KAS)methods. The activation energies calculated by employing FWO method were very close to those obtained by KAS method. The mean activation energy calculated by FWO and KAS methods was also a good agreement with the activation energy obtained from single heating rate measurement in the first step decomposition. | Arjun Singh Tirupati C.Sharma Mahesh Kumar Jaspreet Kaur Narang Prateek Kishore Alok Srivastava | 2017 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2017,13,1: | 8
Evaluation of phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of Polygonatum verticillatum(L.)显示文摘Objective: Polygonatum verticillatum(L.) All.(Ruscaceae), one of the Ashtawarga plants, is widely used for treatment of various ailments. The present study was undertaken to determine the phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of several extracts(petroleum ether, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethanol, and aqueous) from the rhizomes of the plant. Methods: Coarsely powdered dry rhizome was successively extracted with different solvents of increasing polarity(petroleum ether, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethanol and water). The phenolic compositions, in terms of total phenolic content(TPC), total flavonoid content(TFC) and total condensed tannin content(TTC), were evaluated with the Folin–Ciocalteu assay, aluminum chloride colorimetric assay and vanillin spectrophotometric assay, respectively. Total antioxidant capacity, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,20-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) assays were used to assess the antioxidant potential of each extract. A protein denaturation model and 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay were used to evaluate in vitro anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities, respectively. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC/MS) analysis was carried out to demonstrate various phytoconstituents in each extract. Correlation studies were also performed between phenolic composition(TPC, TFC and TTC) and different biological activities. Results: Ethanol extract showed maximum TPC(0.126 mg/g, gallic acid equivalent in dry sample), TFC(0.094 mg/g, rutin equivalent in dry sample) and TTC(29.32 mg/g, catechin equivalent in dry sample),as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Chloroform extract exhibited the strongest cytotoxicity against the human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. GC/MS analysis revealed the presence of 90 different phytoconstituents among the extracts. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities had a positive correlation with TPC, TFC and TTC. However, the anticancer activity showed a negative correlation with TPC, TFC and TTC.Conclusion: From the present study, it can be concluded that P. verticillatum possessed remarkable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities, which could be due to different secondary metabolites of the plant. Phenolic compounds are likely responsible for antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities. However, flavonoids and other compounds might contribute to the anticancer potential of the plant. | SANDeep Kumar Singh Arjun Patra | 2018 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2018,16,4: | 7
A review on dump slope stabilization by revegetation with reference to indigenous plant显示文摘The waste, subgrade ROM and fine dumps of iron ore mines are characterized by high rock fragment contents, low moisture retention capacity, higher bulk density, low nutrients, lower pH and elevated metal concentrations.Use of suitable revegetation programme, that require the selection of right type of plants to be used vis-à-vis the site condition and characteristics, can enhance the long-term stability, both mechanical and ecological,of dumps(waste, subgrade ROM and fines)through providing vegetative cover to control soil erosion and gully formation, consolidation of dump top and side surfaces, binding the loose particles through intricate roof system, etc. This paper overviews the roles of revegetation programme that can be used where vegetation is considered to be the long-term answer to slope protection and erosion control.Various revegetation processes like Coir matting, lemon grass, vetiver grass and indigenous plant may find a wide range of usage in iron ore mines for dump stabilization. The Miyawaki method of plantation is more effective than the conventional method of plantation. This will lead to co-existence of plants, and as a matter of fact each plant draws from the other vital nutrients and they grow to become strong and healthy. The Miyawaki plantation technique aims at“survival of the fittest”,and the area which undergone such plantation has an ecology of their own.The indigenous plant has good binding capacity and helps to control soil erosion as well as improve the dump stability. These indigenous plant species include Shorea robusta(Sal),Dalbergia sisoo(Shisham),Karanj and Azadirachta(Neem). The growth of indigenous plants is dependent upon the soil quality as well as the organic matter of the dump material. The leaf debris plays an important role for improving the organic matter of the dump material to successfully implement the revegetation programme. | Vibhash Ranjan Phalguni Sen Dheeraj Kumar Arjun Sarsawat | 2015 | Ecological Processes2015,4,1: | 5

The b-value and fractal dimension of local seismicity around Koyna Dam(India)显示文摘Earthquakes began to occur in Koyna region(India) soon after the filling of Koyna Dam in 1962. In the present study, three datasets 1964–1993, 1993–1995, and1996–1997 are analyzed to study the b-value and fractal dimension. The b-value is calculated using the Gutenberg–Richter relationship and fractal dimension Dcorr.using correlation integral method. The estimated b-value and Dcorr.of this region before 1993 are found to be in good agreement with previously reported studies. In the subsequent years after 1995, the b-value shows an increase. The estimated b-values of this region are found within the limits of global average. Also, the pattern of spatial clustering of earthquakes show increase in clustering and migration along the three zones called North-East Zone, South-East Zone(SEZ), and Warna Seismic Zone. The earthquake events having depth B5 km are largely confined to SEZ.After 1993, the Dcorr.shows decrease, implying that earthquake activity gets clustered. This seismic clustering could be helpful for earthquake forecasting. | Arjun Kumar S.S.Rai Anand Joshi Himanshu Mittal Rajiv Sachdeva Rohtash Kumar Vandana Ghangas | 2013 | Earthquake Science2013,26,2: | 1
Effect of Pest Exclusion Net(PEN)on the Sustainable Production of Late Season Broad Leaf Mustard(BLM)in Chitwan,Nepal显示文摘Broad leaf mustard(BLM)(Brassica juncea L.var.rugosa,Brassicaceae)is one of the most widely consumed vegetable crops in Nepal. The production of crop in open field is constrained by major pests like mustard aphid and flea beetle. This study was aimed to determine the effects of pest exclusion net(PEN)on pest-infestation and yield of BLM cultivar“Khumal Broad Leaf”.The experiment was carried out in randomized complete block design(RCBD)with five treatments and four replications. The treatments included control(no mulch+no net+no pesticide spray),black plastic mulch only, reflective plastic mulch only, black plastic mulch+no net+pesticide spray, and PEN+black plastic mulch+no pesticide spray.Data were analyzed with RSTAT software package and means were separated by Duncan’s multiple range test(DMRT)at 5%level of significance. The result revealed that crop under PEN had highest plant height(38.99 cm),lowest number of aphid(0-0.86 per plant),flea beetle(0-1.07 per plant)and highest total marketable yield(77.50 ton/ha)while control had lowest plant height(20.06 cm),highest number of aphid(maximum 2.49 per plant),flea beetle(maximum 2.00 per plant)and lowest total marketable yield(13.75 ton/ha).Economic analysis revealed highest benefit-cost ratio in PEN(9.90).This study indicates that the use of PEN protect BLM against aphid and flea beetle, increases yield and can be considered as a viable technology for BLM production by smallholder growers of Nepal. | Ram Chandra Neupane Arjun Kumar Shrestha Rajendra Regmi Kim Fooyontphanich Ananta Raj Devkota | 2018 | Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology(A)2018,8,5: | 1

Does weather affect the growth rate of COVID-19,a study to comprehend transmission dynamics on human health显示文摘The undefendable outbreak of novel coronavirus(SARS-COV-2)lead to a global health emergency due to its higher transmission rate and longer symptomatic duration, created a health surge in a short time.Since Nov 2019 the outbreak in China, the virus is spreading exponentially everywhere. The current study focuses on the relationship between environmental parameters and the growth rate of COVID-19.The statistical analysis suggests that the temperature changes retarded the growth rate and found that-6.28℃ and+14.51℃ temperature is the favorable range for COVID-19 growth.Gutenberg-Richter’s relationship is used to estimate the mean daily rate of exceedance of confirmed cases concerning the change in temperature.Indeed, temperature is the most influential parameter that reduces the growth at the rate of 13-17 cases/day with a 1℃ rise in temperature. | Arjun Sil Vanapalli Naveen Kumar | 2020 | Journal of Safety Science and Resilience2020,1,1: | 1

A cautionary note on decadal sea level pressure predictions from GCMs显示文摘A comparison of sea level pressure(SLP)trends in a subset of seven Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP)phase 5 general circulation models(GCM),namely decadal simulations with CCSM4,CanCM4,MPI-ESM-LR,FGOALS-g2,MIROC4h,MIROC5,and MRICGCM3,to their CMIP3 counterparts reveals an unrealistically strong forecast skill in CMIP3 models for trend predictions for 2001e2011 when using the 1979e2000 period to train the forecast.Boreal-winter SLP trends over five high-,mid-,and low-latitude zones were calculated over the 1979e2000 initialization period for each ensemble member and then ranked based on their performance relative to HadSLP2 observations. The same method is used to rank the ensemble members during the 2001e2011 period. In CMIP3,17 out of 38 ensemble members retain their rank in the 2001e2011 hindcast period and 3 retain the neighboring rank. However, numbers are much lower in more recent CMIP5 decadal predictions over the similar 2001e2010 period when using the 1981e2000 period as initialization with the same number of ensembles.Different periods were used for CMIP3 and CMIP5 because although the 1979e2000 initialization is widely used for CMIP3,CMIP5 decadal predictions are only available for 30-year periods. The conclusion to consider the forecast skill in CMIP3 predictions during 2001e2011 as unrealistic is corroborated by comparisons to earlier periods from the 1960s to the 1980s in both CMIP3 and CMIP5 simulations. Thus, although the 2001e2011 CMIP3 predictions show statistically significant forecast skill, this skill should be treated as a spurious result that is unlikely to be reproduced by newer more accurate GCMs. | Stefan LIESS Peter K.SNYDER Arjun KUMAR Vipin KUMAR | 2018 | Advances in Climate Change Research2018,9,1: | 0
