1Porous titanium granules in critical size defects of rabbit tibia with or without membranes显示文摘Recently, porous titanium granules(PTGs)have been indicated for the preservation of the dimensions of post-extraction sockets,as a filler in sinus lift procedures and for the treatment of peri-implant and periodontal defects, based on the osteoconductivity and dimensional stability of the titanium granules. However, there is a lack of information regarding the use of this material in larger defects and in conjunction with membranes. The objective of this study is to test the behavior of PTGs used to fill critical size defects in rabbit tibiae, with and without membranes.Critical defects were created in both tibiae of rabbits, divided randomly into three groups:Group A(defect filled with PTG),Group B(defect filled with PTG1collagen membrane)and a control group(empty defect). After six weeks, histomorphometric analysis was performed. The results showed more defect closures at the cortical area(87.37%62.2%)and more bone formation at the marrow area(57.6%61.3%)in Group B,in comparison with the other groups(P,0.05);the use of membranes improved the material stability expressed as more percentages of the original material when membranes were used(P,0.05).Finally,inflammatory reactions were observed when the granules were not protected by membranes. In spite of the limitations of this animal study,it may be concluded that PTG particles are osteoconductive and allow bone growth. The PTG particles must be covered by a membrane, especially when grafting larger defects,in order to control particle migration, promote clot stabilization and separate the PTG graft from undesired soft tissue cells.Rafael Arcesio Delgado-Ruiz Jose Luis Calvo-Guirado Marcus Abboud Maria Piedad Ramirez-Ferna'ndez Jose Eduardo Maté-Snchez Bruno Negri Alex Won Georgios Romanos 2014International Journal of Oral Science2014,6,2:1
2The impact of post-operative atrial fibrillation on outcomes in coronary artery bypass graft and combined procedures显示文摘BACKGROUND Postoperative atrial fibrillation(POAF)is a common yet understudied clinical issue after coronary artery bypass graft(CABG)leading to higher mortality rates and stroke. This systematic review and metaanalysis evaluated the rates of adverse outcomes between patients with and without POAF in patients treated with CABG or combined procedures.METHODS The search period was from the beginning of PubMed and Embase to May 18th,2020 with no language restrictions. The inclusion criteria were:(1)studies comparing new onset atrial fibrillation before or after revascularization vs.no new onset AF before or after revascularization. The outcomes assessed included allcause mortality, cardiac death, cerebral vascular accident(CVA),myocardial infarction(MI),repeated revascularization, major adverse cardiac event(MACE),and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events(MACCEs).RESULTS Of the 7,279 entries screened,11 studies comprising of 57,384 patients were included.Compared to nonPOAF,POAF was significantly associated with higher risk of allcause mortality(Risk Ratio(RR)=1.58;95%Confidence Interval(CI):1.42−1.76,P<0.00001)with accompanying high level of heterogeneity(I^(2)=62%).Conclusions Patients with POAF after CABG or combined procedures are at an increased risk of allcause mortality or CVAs.Therefore,POAF after such procedures should be closely monitored and treated judiciously to minimize risk of further complications. While there are studies on POAF versus no POAF on outcomes, the heterogeneity suggests that further studies are needed.Yau-Lam Alex Chau Ji Won Yoo Ho Chuen Yuen Khalid Bin Waleed Dong Chang Tong Liu Fang Zhou Liu Gary Tse Sharen Lee Ka Hou Christien Li 2021Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2021,18,5:0
3Wireless,battery-free,and fully implantable electrical neurostimulation in freely moving rodents显示文摘Implantable deep brain stimulation(DBS)systems are utilized for clinical treatment of diseases such as Parkinson's disease and chronic pain.However,long-term efficacy of DBS is limited, and chronic neuroplastic changes and associated therapeutic mechanisms are not well understood.Fundamental and mechanistic investigation, typically accomplished in small animal models,is difficult because of the need for chronic stimulators that currently require either frequent handling of test subjects to charge battery-powered systems or specialized setups to manage tethers that restrict experimental paradigms and compromise insight. To overcome these challenges,we demonstrate a fully implantable,wireless,battery-free platform that allows for chronic DBS in rodents with the capability to control stimulation parameters digitally in real time. The devices are able to provide stimulation over a wide range of frequencies with biphasic pulses and constant voltage control via low-impedance,surface-engineered platinum electrodes. The devices utilize off-the-shelf components and feature the ability to customize electrodes to enable broad utility and rapid dissemination.Efficacy of the system is demonstrated with a readout of stimulation-evoked neural activity in vivo and chronic stimulation of the medial forebrain bundle in freely moving rats to evoke characteristic head motion for over 36 days.Alex Burton Sang Min Won Arian Kolahi Sohrabi Tucker Stuart Amir Amirhossein Jong Uk Kim Yoonseok Park Andrew Gabros John A.Rogers Flavia Vitale Andrew G.Richardson Philipp Gutruf 2021Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,4:0
