| 1 | Effect of Hot Extrusion on Interfacial Microstructure and Tensile Properties of SiC_p/2009Al Composites Fabricated at Different Hot Pressing Temperatures显示文摘The effects of hot extrusion on the interfacial microstructures and tensile properties of 15 vol.SiCp/2009Al composites fabricated at different hot pressing temperatures were investigated.After hot extrusion,the relative density of the composites increased,the SiC particle distribution became more uniform,and the SiC particles tended to align along the extrusion direction.Furthermore,the interface bonding was improved after hot extrusion;however,the extrusion exerted no obvious effect on the interfacial reaction products formed during sintering process.Tensile tests indicated that the mechanical properties of the composites were improved significantly after extrusion.Fractography revealed that the fracture mechanism of the extruded composites fabricated at the hot pressing temperatures below 540℃ was mainly the interfacial debonding.For the extruded composites fabricated at 560-600℃,the fracture was the matrix ductile fracture and the SiC particle fracture.When the composites were hot pressed at or above 620℃,after extrusion,the fracture mechanism of the composites was the matrix ductile fracture,the interface cracking and the SiC particle fracture. | Peng Jin Bolu Xiao Quanzhao Wang Zongyi Ma Yue Liu Shu Li | 2011 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2011,27,6: | 11 |
| 2 | Seasonal vertical crustal mo-tions in China detected by GPS显示文摘By analyzing daily continuous data of Chinese Global Positioning System (GPS) fiducial network with 25 sites from 1999 to 2001, seasonal altitude variations with amplitude of 3-10 mm are detected. Most part of the variations can be explained by the seasonal vertical crustal movements caused by atmospheric pressure variation and mass loading redistribution of non-tidal ocean loading, snow, and soil moisture. Nevertheless, there exists a systematic discrepancy between GPS deduced result and the counterpart predicted by combining various geophysical sources. | 6 | Microstructure and mechanical property evolution of friction stir welded(B4C+Al2O3)/Al composites designed for neutron absorbing materials显示文摘(B4C+Al2O3)/Al composite designed for the dry storage of spent nuclear fuels was fabricated and then subjected to friction stir welding, at a welding speed of 100 mm/min and rotation rates of 400–800 r/min. Sound joints were obtained under all welding parameters;however, significant softening occurred in the nugget zone(NZ) for all the joints. Therefore, all the joints exhibited significantly decreased strength at both room temperature and high temperature compared with the base metal, with the joints fracturing in the NZs. Rotation rate exhibited no obvious effect on the tensile strength of the joints, but led to increased elongation as the result of the broadened NZs. The detailed microstructural examinations indicated that the welding thermomechanical effect broke up the near 3D amorphous Al2O3 netlike structure distributed at the Al grain boundaries, caused the coarsening of Al grains, and the agglomeration and crystallization of amorphous Al2O3, thereby resulting in the softening of the NZs and the reduction in the joint strength. Using this model,we studied the changes of RBC surface charge with the aging process. The results showed that its surface charge decreased with RBC agingprocess. Nevertheless,the regulation of the changes was not linear during RBC aging. The indexes of (DI)d and (DI)or describing RBC rheological behaviours duringits aging process were measured with a new Ektacytometry. It is demonstrated thatboth the indexes decreased with RBC aging,but the relationship was not linear. Thecharacteristics of the indexes displayed a common regularity of smaller alterationsin the first half period of RBC life span and greater alterations in the latter periodof RBC life span. It was also shown that the regulation of the changes for each individual index were not alike. | 13 | Genome-wide analysis reveals selection for Chinese Rongchang pigs显示文摘Livestock have undergone domestication and consequently strong selective pressure on genes or genomic regions that control desirable traits. To identify selection signatures in the genome of Chinese Rongchang pigs, we generated a total of about 170 Gb of DNA sequence data with about 6.4-fold coverage for each of six female individuals. By combining these data with the publically available genome data of 10 Asian wild boars,we identified 449 protein-coding genes with selection signatures in Rongchang pigs, which are mainly involved in growth and hormone binding, nervous system development, and drug metabolism. The accelerated evolution of these genes may contribute to the dramatic phenotypic differences between Rongchang pigs and Chinese wild boars. | 15 | Influence of acetone on nanostructure and electrochemical properties of interfacial synthesized polyaniline nanofibers显示文摘The growth of polyaniline(PANI) nano fi bers through interfacial polymerization can be well controlled by adding a small amount of acetone in the water/chloroform system. It was found that the polymerization rate became slower in the presence of acetone, yielding PANI nano fi bers with larger aspect ratios. The in fl uences of the acetone addition on the morphology, microstructure and properties of as-prepared PANI nano fi bers were studied by scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM), ultraviolet–visible spectra(UV–vis), Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction(XRD), thermogravity analysis(TGA), and electrical and electrochemical measurements. The experimental results showed that PANI nano fi bers prepared by using ammonium persulfate(APS) as an oxidant with acetone exhibited slower growth, the larger ratio of length to diameter, and higher crystallinity(2θ=6℃, 19℃, 26℃) than that without acetone, meanwhile remained larger yield of 11.23% and higher conductivity 1.8*10-2S/cm compared with that obtained by replacing APS with Fe Cl3. | 18 | Identification of blood-brain barrier function following subarachnoid hemorrhage in rats at different stages显示文摘BACKGROUND: Recent studies have indicated that blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption following su- barachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) significantly correlates with the development of brain injury and poor prognosis of patients subjected to SAH. OBJECTIVE: To investigate both functional and structural changes related to BBB in various phases after SAH in rats through quantitative and qualitative methods. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: This experiment, a completely randomized design and controlled ex- periment, was performed at the Department of Neurosurgery, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing University of Medical Sciences from June 2006 to March 2007. MATERIALS: A total of 128 female, healthy, Sprague-Dawley rats were selected for this study. Main reagents and instruments: Evans Blue dye (Sigma Company, USA), fluorescence spectrophotometer (Shimadzu Company, Japan), and transmission electron microscope (Olympus Company, Japan). METHODS: The included 128 rats were randomly divided into two groups: sham-operated group (n = 16) and SAH group (n = 112). Rats in the SAH group were divided into seven subgroups: 6, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, and 72 hours after SAH (16 rats for each time point). Experimental SAH was induced by blood injection into the pre-chiasmatic cistern (300 μL). The sham-operated group received an equivalent volume of normal saline solution (300 μL) injected into the subarachnoid space. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Brain tissue water content was determined by the wet-dry method. BBB permeability in the cerebral cortex was determined by Evans Blue dye and fluorescent spectrophotometer. The ultrastructural changes in BBB were observed with transmission electron microscope. RESULTS: Compared with the sham-operated group, SAH induced a significant increase in brain water content between 24 and 60 hours (F = 888.32, P < 0.05). Brain water content increased to a maximum by 36 hours after SAH, normalizing by 72 hours. Evans Blue content in the cerebral cortex of SAH group rats began to increase by 24 hours after SAH, peaked at 36 hours (F = 896.72, P < 0.05), and significantly de- creased at later observation times, finally normalizing by 72 hours after SAH (P > 0.05). Electron micros- copy demonstrated only a mild perivascular edema at 24 hours after SAH. By 36 hours, a notable perivascu- lar edema was associated with a collapse of the capillary. Astrocytic endfeet surrounding the capillary were prominently swollen in the edematous areas. The above-mentioned abnormal ultrastructural changes in the BBB were reversed by 72 hours after SAH. No obvious morphological changes in the BBB were detected in the sham-operated rats. CONCLUSION: These results directly suggest that SAH could induce rapid changes in BBB function and structure during the acute phases of BBB breakdown. Moreover, these dynamic alterations further indicate that the BBB possesses the ability to self-repair. | 19 | Effect of Particle Size on Mechanical Properties and Fracture Behaviors of Age-Hardening SiC/Al–Zn–Mg–Cu Composites显示文摘15 vol.% SiC/Al-6.5Zn-2.8 Mg-1.7 Cu(wt%) composites with varying particle sizes(3.5, 7.0, 14 and 20 μm), i.e., C-3.5, C-7.0, C-14, and C-20, respectively, were fabricated by powder metallurgy(PM) method and subjected to microstructural examination. The effect of particle size on mechanical properties and fracture behaviors of the T6-treated composites was revealed and analyzed in detail. Element distribution and precipitates variations in the composites with varying particle sizes were emphatically considered. Results indicated that both tensile strength and plasticity of the T6-treated composites increased first and then decreased with particle size decreasing. The C-7.0 composite simultaneously exhibited the highest ultimate tensile strength(UTS) of 686 MPa and best elongation(El.) of 3.1%. The smaller-sized SiC particle would introduce more oxide impurities, which would react with the alloying element in the matrix to cause Mg segregation and depletion. According to strengthening mechanism analysis, the weakening of precipitation strengthening in the T6-treated C-3.5 composite was the main cause of the lower tensile strength. Additionally, the larger SiC particle, the more likely to fracture, especially in the composites with high yield strength. For the T6-treated C-20 composites, more than 75% SiC particles were broken up, resulting in the lowest plasticity.
