| 1 | Application of computational fluid dynamic to model the hydraulic performance of subsurface flow wetlands显示文摘A subsurface flow wetland(SSFW)was simulated using a commercial computational fluid dynamic(CFD)code.The constructed media was simulated using porous media and the liquid resident time distribution(RTD)in the SSFW was obtained using the particle trajectory model.The effect of wetland configuration and operating conditions on the hydraulic performance of the SSFW were investigated.The results indicated that the hydraulic performance of the SSFW was predominantly affected by the wetland configuration.The hydraulic effciency of the SSFW with an inlet at the middle edge of the upper media was 0.584 and the best among the SSFWs with an inlet at the top,the middle,and the bottom edge of the upper media.The constructed media affected the hydraulic performance by the ratio(K)of the upper and lower media resistance.The selection of appropriate media resistance in the protection layer can improve the hydraulic effciency.When the viscous resistance coeffcient of the media in the protection layer changed from 2.315×105 to 1.200×108,the hydraulic effciency of the SSFW increased from 0.301 to 0.751.However,the effect of operating conditions on the hydraulic effciency of the SSFW was slight. | Liwei FAN Hai Reti Wenxing WANG Zexiang LU Zhiming YANG | 2008 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2008,20,12: | 17 |
| 2 | Association of KIR Genotypes and Haplotypes with Susceptibility to Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Chinese Han Population显示文摘Killer immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) genes can regulate the activation of NK and T cells upon interaction with HLA class I molecules. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been regarded as a multi-factorial disorder disease. Previous studies revealed that KIRs were involved in HCV and HIV infection or clearance. The aim of this study was to explore the possibility of the inheritance of KIR genotypes and haplotypes as a candidate for susceptibility to persistent HBV infection or HBV clearance. The sequence specific primer polymerase chain reaction (SSP-PCR) was employed to identify the KIR genes and pseudogenes in 150 chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients, 251 spontaneously recovered (SR) controls, and 412 healthy controls. The frequencies of genotype G, M, FZ1 increased in CHB patients compared with healthy control subjects. The frequency of genotype AH was higher in SR controls than that in both CHB patients and healthy controls. The carriage frequencies of genotype G and AH were higher; while, the frequencies of AF and AJ were lower in SR controls than those in healthy control subjects. The frequency of A haplotype was lower, whereas, the frequency of B haplotype was higher in CHB patients and SR controls than those in healthy controls. In healthy controls, haplotype 4 was found lower compared with that in CHB patients and SR controls and the frequency of haplotype 5 was higher in SR controls than that in other two groups. Based on these findings, it seems that the genotypes M and FZ1 are HBV susceptive genotypes; AH, on the other hand, may be protective genotypes that facilitate the clearance of HBV. | 5 | Micro-droplet Digital Polymerase Chain Reaction and Real-Time Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction Technologies Provide Highly Sensitive and Accurate Detection of Zika Virus显示文摘The establishment of highly sensitive diagnostic methods is critical in the early diagnosis and control of Zika virus(ZIKV)and in preventing serious neurological complications of ZIKV infection. In this study, we established micro-droplet digital polymerase chain reaction(ddPCR) and real-time quantitative PCR(RT-qPCR) protocols for the detection of ZIKV based on the amplification of the NS5 gene. For the ZIKV standard plasmid, the RT-qPCR results showed that the cycle threshold(Ct) value was linear from 10~1 to 10~8 copy/l L, with a standard curve R^2 of 0.999 and amplification efficiency of 92.203%;however, a concentration as low as 1 copy/l L could not be detected. In comparison with RT-qPCR, the dd PCR method resulted in a linear range of 10~1–10~4 copy/l L and was able to detect concentrations as low as 1 copy/l L. Thus, for detecting ZIKV from clinical samples, RT-qPCR is a better choice for high-concentration samples(above 10~1 copy/l L),while ddPCR has excellent accuracy and sensitivity for low-concentration samples. | 13 | Online single particle measurement of fireworks pollution during Chinese New Year in Nanning显示文摘Time-resolved single-particle measurements were conducted during Chinese New Year in Nanning, China. Firework displays resulted in a burst of SO_2, coarse mode, and accumulation mode(100–500 nm) particles. Through single particle mass spectrometry analysis, five different types of particles(fireworks-metal, ash, dust, organic carbon-sulfate(OC-sulfate), biomass burning) with different size distributions were identified as primary emissions from firework displays. The fireworks-related particles accounted for more than70% of the total analyzed particles during severe firework detonations. The formation of secondary particulate sulfate and nitrate during firework events was investigated on single particle level. An increase of sulfite peak(80SO_3^-) followed by an increase of sulfate peaks(97HSO_4^-+ 96SO_4^-) in the mass spectra during firework displays indicated the aqueous uptake and oxidation of SO_2 on particles. High concentration of gaseous SO_2, high relative humidity and high particle loading likely promoted SO_2 oxidation. Secondary nitrate formed through gas-phase oxidation of NO_2 to nitric acid, followed by the condensation into particles as ammonium nitrate. | 14 | Experiment and analysis on microscopic characteristics of pedestrian movement in building bottleneck显示文摘In this paper, evacuation experiments are carried out to study pedestrian movement behaviors in building bottleneck. An image processing method based on mean-shift algorithm is used to extract pedestrian movement trajectory. Based on the extracted trajectory, we analyze the microscopic movement characteristics of pedestrians such as lane formation, change of velocity and distance between two sequential pedestrians. A pedestrian lane is a group of pedestrians moving in a column. The lane formation is verified by the pedestrian trajectory and distribution of pedestrian’s lateral positions (x direction in the paper): lane number changes from one to two, three or even more with the increasing bottleneck width when pedestrians pass through the bottleneck. By analyzing the pedestrian movement behaviors in the same pedestrian lane, we find three typical movement modes in the bottleneck: time-lag acceleration, synchronous acceleration, and avoiding deceleration. Through analyzing the time intervals when successive pedestrians pass through the bottleneck, we find that most pedestrians adjust their velocities according to the distance to the forward pedestrians. | 18 | Activation of the bitter taste sensor TRPM5 prevents high saltinduced cardiovascular dysfunction显示文摘High salt intake is a known risk factor of cardiovascular diseases. Our recent study demonstrated that long-term high salt intake impairs transient receptor potential channel M5(TRPM5)-mediated aversion to high salt concentrations, consequently promoting high salt intake and hypertension;however, it remains unknown whether TRPM5 activation ameliorates cardiovascular dysfunction. Herein we found that bitter melon extract(BME) and cucurbitacin E(CuE), a major compound in BME, lowered high salt-induced hypertension. Long-term BME intake significantly enhanced the aversion to high salt concentrations by upregulating TRPM5 expression and function, eventually decreasing excessive salt consumption in mice. Moreover, dietary BME ameliorated high salt-induced cardiovascular dysfunction and angiotensin II-induced hypertension in vivo. The mechanistic evidence demonstrated that dietary BME inhibited high salt-induced RhoA/Rho kinase pathway overactivation, leading to reduced phosphorylation levels of myosin light chain kinase and myosin phosphatase targeting subunit 1. Furthermore, CuE inhibited vasoconstriction by attenuating L-type Ca^(2+) channel-induced Ca^(2+) influx in vascular smooth muscle cells. | 19 | Cryogenic mechanical behavior of a TRIP-assisted dual-phase highentropy alloy显示文摘The recently developed dual-phase(DP)non-equiatomic Fe_(50)Mn_(30)Co_(10)Cr_(10)(at.%)high-entropy alloy(HEA)showed much higher strength and ductility compared to the single-phase equiatomic Fe_(20)Mn_(20)Ni_(20)Co_(20)Cr_(20)(at.%)HEA at room temperature.Herein we probe the cryogenic mechanical properties of the non-equiatomic DP-HEA with different grain sizes and compare with the equiatomic single-phase HEA.Our results show that the cryogenic ultimate tensile strengths of the coarse-grained(~200μm)and fine-grained(~4μm)DP-HEAs reach up to 1,133 and 1,342 MPa,respectively,which are significantly higher than that of the equiatomic single-phase HEAs with similar grain sizes.Furthermore,the fine-grained DP-HEA shows substantial improvement in both strength and ductility compared to the coarse-grained counterparts at cryogenic temperatures.Microstructural analysis reveals that the enhanced mechanical properties of the DP-HEA at cryogenic temperatures are attributed to a more extensive displacive transformation from the face-centered cubic(FCC)matrix into the hexagonal close-packed(HCP)phase compared to that at room temperature.Specifically,the HCP phase fraction in tensile tested fine-grained DP-HEAs increases from~39%to~79%with decreasing temperature from 298 to 77 K.The enhanced transformation behavior is enabled by the reduced stacking fault energy of the material with the decrease of deformation temperatures.The resulting outstanding combination of strength and ductility further suggests that the DP-HEAs are promising candidates as structural materials for cryogenic applications. | Dongyue Li Zhiming Li Lu Xie Yong Zhang Wenrui Wang | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,6: | 2 |
