1Pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic approaches in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome显示文摘Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS)is a common breathing disorder in sleep in which the airways narrow or collapse during sleep,causing obstructive sleep apnea.The prevalence of OSAS continues to rise worldwide,particularly in middle-aged and elderly individuals.The mechanism of upper airway collapse is incompletely understood but is associated with several factors,including obesity,craniofacial changes,altered muscle function in the upper airway,pharyngeal neuropathy,and fluid shifts to the neck.The main characteristics of OSAS are recurrent pauses in respiration,which lead to intermittent hypoxia(IH)and hypercapnia,accompanied by blood oxygen desaturation and arousal during sleep,which sharply increases the risk of several diseases.This paper first briefly describes the epidemiology,incidence,and pathophysiological mechanisms of OSAS.Next,the alterations in relevant signaling pathways induced by IH are systematically reviewed and discussed.For example,IH can induce gut microbiota(GM)dysbiosis,impair the intestinal barrier,and alter intestinal metabolites.These mechanisms ultimately lead to secondary oxidative stress,systemic inflammation,and sympathetic activation.We then summarize the effects of IH on disease pathogenesis,including cardiocerebrovascular disorders,neurological disorders,metabolic diseases,cancer,reproductive disorders,and COVID-19.Finally,different therapeutic strategies for OSAS caused by different causes are proposed.Multidisciplinary approaches and shared decision-making are necessary for the successful treatment of OSAS in the future,but more randomized controlled trials are needed for further evaluation to define what treatments are best for specific OSAS patients.Renjun Lv Xueying Liu Yue Zhang Na Dong Xiao Wang Yao He Hongmei Yue Qingqing Yin 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,6:8
2Characterizing the antibiotic resistance genes in a river catchment: Influence of anthropogenic activities显示文摘Previous studies on environmental antibiotics resistance genes(ARGs) have focused on the pollution sources such as wastewater treatment plants, aquaculture and livestock farms,etc. Few of them had addressed this issue in a regional scale such as river catchment. Hence,the occurrence and abundances of 23 ARGs were investigated in surface water samples collected from 38 sites which located from the river source to estuary of the Beijiang River.Among them, 11 ARGs were frequently detected in this region and 5 ARGs(sul I, sul II, tet B,tet C, and tet W) were selected for their distribution pattern analysis. The abundances of the selected ARGs were higher in the upstream(8.70 × 10~6 copies/ng DNA) and downstream areas(3.17 × 10~6 copies/ng DNA) than those in the midstream areas(1.23 × 10~6 copies/ng DNA), which was positively correlated to the population density and number of pollution sources. Pollution sources of ARGs along the Beijiang River not only had a great impact on the abundances and diversity, but also on the distribution of specific ARGs in the water samples. Both sul I and sul II were likely originated from aquaculture farms and animal farms,tet W gene was possibly associated with the mining/metal melting industry and the electric waste disposal and tet C gene was commonly found in the area with multiple pollution sources.However, the abundance of tet B was not particularly related to anthropogenic impacts. 7Spatiotemporal Variations of Microwave Land Surface Emissivity(MLSE)over China Derived from Four-Year Recalibrated Fengyun 3B MWRI Data显示文摘Microwave Land Surface Emissivity(MLSE)over China under both clear and cloudy sky conditions was retrieved using measurements of recalibrated microwave brightness temperatures(Tbs)from Fengyun-3B Microwave Radiation Imager(FY-3B MWRI),combined with cloud properties derived from Himawari-8 Advanced Himawari Imager(AHI)observations.The contributions from cloud particles and atmospheric gases to the upwelling Tbs at the top of atmosphere were calculated and removed in radiative transfer.The MLSEs at horizontal polarizations at 10.65,18.7,and 36.5 GHz during 7 July 2015 to 30 June 2019 over China showed high values in the southeast vegetated area and low values in the northwest barren,or sparsely vegetated,area.The maximum values were found in the belt area of the Qinling-Taihang Mountains and the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,which is highly consistent with MLSEs derived from AMSR-E.It demonstrates that the measurements of FY-3B MWRI Tbs,including its calibration and validation,are reliable,and the retrieval algorithm developed in this study works well.Seasonal variations of MLSE in China are mainly driven by the combined effects of vegetation,rainfall,and snow cover.In tropical and southern forest regions,the seasonal variation of MLSE is small due to the enhancement from vegetation and the suppression from rainfall.In the boreal area,snow causes a significant decrease of MLSE at 36.5 GHz in winter.Meanwhile,the MLSE at lower frequencies experiences less suppression.In the desert region in Xinjiang,increases of MLSEs at all frequencies are observed with increasing snow cover.Rui LI Jiheng HU Shengli WU Peng ZHANG Husi LETU Yu WANG Xuewen WANG Yuyun FU Renjun ZHOU Ling SUN 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,9:1
8Characterization of extracellular polymeric substances in the biofilms of typical bacteria by the sulfur K-edge XANES spectroscopy显示文摘A combined approach of physicochemical extraction and sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure(XANES) spectroscopy was applied to characterize the extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) of typical bacterial biofilms in this study. Physicochemical analysis showed variation of the contents of DNA,polysaccharide and protein in different fractions of EPS in different mediums. The sulfur K-edge XANES analysis yielded a variety of spectra.Spectral fitting of the XANES spectra utilizing a large set of model compounds showed that there was more reduced sulfur in both LB-EPS(loosely bound EPS) and TB-EPS(tightly bound EPS) of all the biofilms in LB medium than in R2 A medium. More oxidized sulfur was identified in LB-EPS than that in TB-EPS,suggesting different niches and physiological heterogeneity in the biofilms. 12Gram-scale synthesis of nanotherapeutic agents for CT/Tl-weighted MRI bimodal imaging guided photothermal therapy显示文摘Theranostic nanomedicine, which uses both imaging and therapeutic componentsfor simultaneous disease diagnosis and treatment, is expected to improve patienttreatment safety and outcomes by offering a more personalized approach tomedicine. However, the poor reproducibilities of nanomedicines synthesizedfor optimized bioavailability and their potential toxicity are impeding clinicaldevelopment. Moreover, milligram-scale synthetic methods are often inconsistentwhen transferred to mass production. To address these challenges, a facile,room temperature, aqueous phase synthesis of nanotheranostic agents usingclinically validated mesoporous silica and naturally derived polydopamine hasbeen developed. Since the synthetic procedure is simple and robust, and requiresonly simple mixing under ambient conditions, excellent batch-to-batch consistencyhas been achieved. As a result, this process can be easily scaled-up to producegram-scale batches with physicochemical parameters similar to those of materialssynthesized in smaller batches. The resulting nanotheranostic agents exhibitefficient X-ray tomography and Tl-weighted magnetic resonance image contrastenhancing abilities due to their chemically ligated, benign Bi3~ and Fe3~ ions.Furthermore, the inclusion of a polydopamine shell makes the nanoparticlesurface easy to functionalize and renders these materials highly efficient asphotothermal agents. 14Risk-based Two-stage Optimal Scheduling of Energy Storage System with Second-life Battery Units显示文摘With the growing adoption of Electrical Vehicles(EVs),it is expected that a large number of on-board Li-ion batteries will be retired from EVs in the near future.Retired batteries will typically retain 80%of their initial capacities and can be recycled as second life batteries(SLBs).Although the capital costs of SLBs are much cheaper,their operational reliability is an important concern since used batteries may suffer from a higher failure rate.This paper aggregates brand new batteries and SLBs together to improve power system’s operating performance with renewable energy resources.In the context of a day-ahead and intra-day dispatch framework,a two-stage coordinated optimal scheduling method is proposed.Specifically,the energy cost of brand-new batteries and SLBs is calculated based on detailed battery degradation model,and the reliability of batteries is modeled based on the Weibull distribution.Moreover,Conditional value at risk(CVaR)criterion is applied to evaluate the risk induced by intermittent renewable power output,load demand variation and SLBs failure probability.Simulation tests demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.Yongxi Zhang Jiahua Zhu Yan Xu Renjun Zhou Zhao Yang Dong 2023CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2023,9,2:0

16Developmental toxicity assessment of neonicotinoids and organophosphate esters with a human embryonic stem cell-and metabolism-based fast-screening model显示文摘In recent years,neonicotinoids(NEOs)and organophosphate esters(OPEs)have been widely used as substitutes for traditional pesticides and brominated fame-retardants,respectively.Previous studies have shown that those compounds can be frequently detected in environmental and human samples,are able to penetrate the placental barrier,and are toxic to animals.Thus,it is reasonable to speculate that NEOs and OPEs may have potential adverse effects in humans,especially during development.We employed a human embryonic stem cell differentiation-and liver S9 fraction metabolism-based fast screening model to assess the potential embryonic toxicity of those two types of chemicals.We show that four NEO and five OPE prototypes targeted mostly ectoderm specification,as neural ectoderm and neural crest genes were down-regulated,and surface ectoderm and placode markers up-regulated.Human liver S9 fraction's treatment could generally reduce the effects of the chemicals,except in a few specific instances,indicating the liver may detoxify NEOs and OPEs.Our findings suggest that NEOs and OPEs interfere with human early embryonic development.Shuxian Zhang Miaomiao Zhao Shichang Li Renjun Yang Nuoya Yin Francesco Faiola 2024Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,3:0

19The Boltzmann Equation with Time-periodic Boundary Temperature显示文摘This paper is concerned with the boundary-value problem on the Boltzmann equation in bounded domains with diffuse-reflection boundary where the boundary temperature is time-periodic. We establish the existence of time-periodic solutions with the same period for both hard and soft potentials, provided that the time-periodic boundary temperature is sufficiently close to a stationary one which has small variations around a positive constant. The dynamical stability of time-periodic profiles is also proved under small perturbations, and this in turn yields the non-negativity of the profile.
