1Variation of head and facial morphological characteristics with increased age of Han in Southern China显示文摘We investigated 13940 (6735 male, 7250 female) adult head and facial physical attributes from 19 different Han ethnic groups in 10 southern-China provinces, and calculated 12 head and facial indexes. Indexes were used to analyze the variation of head and facial morphological characteristics with increased age. Results showed that as age increases: (1) Head breadth, minimum frontal breadth, face breadth, interocular breadth, external biocular breadth, lip height, lip thickness, head circumference, auricular height, length-breadth head index, length-height head index, and lip-index values decline significantly in a linear fashion. 3Colour compound lenses for a portable fluorescence microscope显示文摘In this article,we demonstrated a handheld smartphone fluorescence microscope(HSFM)that integrates dualfunctional polymer lenses with a smartphone.The HSFM consists of a smartphone,a field-portable illumination source,and a dual-functional polymer lens that performs both optical imaging and filtering.Therefore,compared with the existing smartphone fluorescence microscope,the HSFM does not need any additional optical filters.Although fluorescence imaging has traditionally played an indispensable role in biomedical and clinical applications due to its high specificity and sensitivity for detecting cells,proteins,DNAs/RNAs,etc.,the bulky elements of conventional fluorescence microscopes make them inconvenient for use in point-of-care diagnosis.The HSFM demonstrated in this article solves this problem by providing a multifunctional,miniature,small-form-factor fluorescence module.This multifunctional fluorescence module can be seamlessly attached to any smartphone camera for both bright-field and fluorescence imaging at cellular-scale resolutions without the use of additional bulky lenses/filters;in fact,the HSFM achieves magnification and light filtration using a single lens.Cell and tissue observation,cell counting,plasmid transfection evaluation,and superoxide production analysis were performed using this device.Notably,this lens system has the unique capability of functioning with numerous smartphones,irrespective of the smartphone model and the camera technology housed within each device.As such,this HSFM has the potential to pave the way for realtime point-of-care diagnosis and opens up countless possibilities for personalized medicine.Bo Dai Ziao Jiao Lulu Zheng Hunter Bachman Yongfeng Fu Xinjun Wan Yule Zhang Yu Huang Xiaodian Han Chenglong Zhao Tony Jun Huang Songlin Zhuang Dawei Zhang 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:3

5CALTPP:A general program to calculate thermophysical properties显示文摘A program CALTPP(CALculation of ThermoPhysical Properties)is developed in order to provide various thermophysical properties such as diffusion coefficient,interfacial energy,thermal conductivity,viscosity and molar volume mainly as function of temperature and composition.These thermophysical properties are very important inputs for microstructure simulations and mechanical property predictions.The general structure of CALTPP is briefly described,and the CALPHAD-type models for the description of these thermophysical properties are presented.The CALTPP program contains the input module,calculation and/or optimization modules and output module.A few case studies including(a)the calculation of diffusion coefficient and optimization of atomic mobility,(b)the calculation of solid/liquid,coherent solid/solid and liquid/liquid interfacial energies,(c)the calculation of thermal conductivity,(d)the calculation of viscosity,and(e)the establishment of molar volume database in binary and ternary alloys are demonstrated to show the features of CALTPP.It is expected that CALTPP will be an effective contribution in both scientific research and education.Yuling Liu Cong Zhang Changfa Du Yong Du Zhoushun Zheng Shuhong Liu Lei Huang Shiyi Wen Youliang Jin Huaqing Zhang Fan Zhang George Kaptay 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,42,7:2
6Effect of blocking Ras signaling pathway with K-Ras siRNA on apoptosis in esophageal squamous carcinoma cells显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of RNAi silencing of the K-Ras gene on Ras signal pathway activity in EC9706 esophageal cancer cells. METHODS: EC9706 cells were treated in the following six groups: blank group (no transfection), negative control group (transfection no-carrier), transfection group (transfected with pSilencer-siK-ras), taxol chemotherapy group, taxol chemotherapy plus no-carrier group, taxol chemotherapy plus transfection group. Immunocytochemistry, Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blotting were used to analyze the expression of MAPK1 (mitogen-activated protein kinases 1) and cyclin D1 in response to siRNA (small interfering RNA) transfection and taxol treatment. RESULTS: K-Ras (K-Ras gene) siRNA transfection of EC9706 esophageal squamous carcinoma cells decreased the expression of K-Ras, MAPK1 and cyclinD1 at the mRNA and protein level. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction indicated that the expression levels of MAPK1 and cyclin D1 mRNAs were significantly lower in the transfection group than in the blank group (P<0.05). Western blotting showed that 72 h after EC9706 cell transfection, the expression levels of MAPK1 and cyclin D1 proteins had decreased in all groups, and the expression levels in the transfection group were significantly inhibited as compared with the blank group. Apoptosis increased significantly in the transfection group or after addition of taxol as compared with the blank group and the no-carrier group. The degree of apoptosis in the taxol plus transfection group was more severe. CONCLUSION: Apoptosis increased significantly in EC9706 esophageal carcinoma cells after siRNA-mediated inhibition of Ras signaling, with the most obvious increase observed in the transfection plus taxol chemotherapy group. Ras knockdown therefore increased cellular sensitivity to the chemotherapeutic agent, taxol. 9Improving the accuracy of genomic prediction for meat quality traits using whole genome sequence data in pigs显示文摘Background Pork quality can directly affect customer purchase tendency and meat quality traits have become valu-able in modern pork production.However,genetic improvement has been slow due to high phenotyping costs.In this study,whole genome sequence(WGS)data was used to evaluate the prediction accuracy of genomic best linear unbiased prediction(GBLUP)for meat quality in large-scale crossbred commercial pigs.Results We produced WGS data(18,695,907 SNPs and 2,106,902 INDELs exceed quality control)from 1,469 sequenced Duroc×(Landrace×Yorkshire)pigs and developed a reference panel for meat quality including meat color score,marbling score,L*(lightness),a*(redness),and b*(yellowness)of genomic prediction.The prediction accuracy was defined as the Pearson correlation coefficient between adjusted phenotypes and genomic estimated breeding values in the validation population.Using different marker density panels derived from WGS data,accuracy differed substantially among meat quality traits,varied from 0.08 to 0.47.Results showed that MultiBLUP outperform GBLUP and yielded accuracy increases ranging from 17.39%to 75%.We optimized the marker density and found medium-and high-density marker panels are beneficial for the estimation of heritability for meat quality.Moreover,we conducted genotype imputation from 50K chip to WGS level in the same population and found average concord-ance rate to exceed 95%and r^(2)=0.81.Conclusions Overall,estimation of heritability for meat quality traits can benefit from the use of WGS data.This study showed the superiority of using WGS data to genetically improve pork quality in genomic prediction.Zhanwei Zhuang Jie Wu Yibin Qiu Donglin Ruan Rongrong Ding Cineng Xu Shenping Zhou Yuling Zhang Yiyi Liu Fucai Ma Jifei Yang Ying Sun Enqin Zheng Ming Yang Gengyuan Cai Jie Yang Zhenfang Wu 2023Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2023,14,5:1

12Evaluation of Farmland Drainage Water Quality by Fuzzy–Gray Combination Method显示文摘The complex relationships between indicators and water conditions cause fuzzy and gray uncertainties in evaluation of water quality. Compared to conventional single-factor evaluation methods, the combination evaluation method can consider these two uncertainties to produce more objective and reasonable evaluation results. In this paper, we propose a combination evaluation method with two main parts:(1) the use of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and gray correlation analysis as submodels with which to consider the fuzzy and gray uncertainties and(2) the establishment of a combination model based on minimum bias squares. In addition, using this method, we evaluate the water quality of a ditch in a typical rice–wheat system of Yixing city in the Taihu Lake Basin during three rainfall events. The results show that the ditch water quality is not good and we found the chemical oxygen demand to be the key indicator that affects water quality most significantly. 13Body weights in Han Chinese populations显示文摘The body weights of 26,954 Han Chinese adults in 67 areas(16,503 in rural areas and 10,451 in urban areas) across China were measured from 2009 to2013.The results showed that in China,the three areas(north China,northeast China,and Jianghuai Plain) were with the greatest body weight.Northwest Han Chinese populations were heavier.Southwestern dialect groups were at the middle level and lighter than northern Han Chinese populations,but were heavier among southern Han Chinese populations.Chinese Han who located in areas of Hangjiahu were the general level,and similar to southwestern dialect groups.The mean values of body weight in Hunan Han and Fujian Han were greater than other Han groups in southern China.Gan dialect groups and Cantonese dialect groups showed the minimum body weightvalue in all Chinese Han groups.Besides,the mean body weight of Hakka was heavier than Gan dialect groups and Cantonese dialect groups which were adjacent to Hakka.Body weight increases with an increase in height,bone diameter,subcutaneous fat on the limbs and trunk,chest circumference,and abdomen circumference.This study revealed that northern Han men were heavier than southern Han men,because the former were taller and had a larger waist circumference as well as thicker subcutaneous fat on their backs.Among women,height,bone diameter of the upper limbs,chest and abdomen circumferences,and subcutaneous fat on the limbs and trunks of northern Han exceeded those of rural southern Han.Consequently,body weight values of northern Han women were higher than those of southern Han women.While a significant difference in these values was found between urban and rural men,no significant difference occurred between urban and rural women.Body weight was associated with age in urban and rural men only in the case of minority groups.However,there was a positive correlation between body weight and age in the majority groups of both urban and rural women.The particular composition of genes involved in body weight traits of Han populations across the country has created a genetic foundation accounting for varying body weights of different Han populations.Environmental factors also play a role.As the Han are widely dispersed,their habitation areas vary according to factors such as topography,temperature,precipitation,humidity,and light.Moreover,labor intensity,food composition,and the intake of various nutrients also differ across Han populations.All of these factors have affected the development of body weight in Han populations living in different locations.Yonglan Li Lianbin Zheng Huanjiu Xi Keli Yu Shunhua Lu Jinyuan Tian Xue Song Jinping Bao Yuling Li Xinghua Zhang Youfeng Wen Fu Ren 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,35:1

18Library's industrial technology information service in science parks—Taking NSL's practice as an example显示文摘Purpose:The purpose of this paper is to explore how libraries can develop service and product strategies and the service support mechanism to provide industrial technology information service in science parks.Design/methodology/approach:The analysis is based on a case study of a large Chinese research library,National Science Library(NSL),the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS),in serving high-tech companies in Zhongguancun Science Park(Z-Park).Findings:NSL's practices suggested that in serving business clients,libraries' product and service strategies should be based on the understanding of users' needs.Aside from those services that have been recognized by clients such as document retrieval & delivery and novelty search,libraries may expand their service and provide in-depth information analysis and consultation for some key clients.Moreover,a service and product development system should be established,which differentiates the libraries' products and services from those of their competitors.In providing industrial technology information service,libraries need to construct the service support mechanism,publicize their service and learn to cooperate with clients to meet their demands for knowledge management and innovation.Research limitations:The generalizability of the findings is limited because they are based on an individual case study.Practical implications:Our service practices provide useful information for other libraries to expand their information service to high-tech companies in the new information environment.Originality/value:Z-Park is the first and one of the largest science and technology parks in China.Hence NSL's practices in serving high-tech companies in Z-Park can be valuable to other libraries that intend to take up the similar service.Fei ZHENG Hao PENG Fang CHEN Hualing XIE Yuling SUN 2014Chinese Journal of Library and Information Science2014,,1:0

20Identification of binding domains and key amino acids involved in the interaction between BmLARK and G4 structure in the BmPOUM2 promoter in Bombyx mori显示文摘It has been found that the non-B form DNA structures,like G-quadruplex(G4)and i-motif,are involved in many important biological processes.Our previous study showed that the silkworm transcription factor BmLARK binds to the G4 structure in the promoter of the transcription factor BmPOUM2 and regulates its promoter activity.However,the binding mechanism between BmLARK and BmPOUM2 G4 structure remains unclear.In this study,binding domains and key amino acid residues involved in the interaction between BmLARK and BmPOUM2 G4 were studied.The electrophoretic mobility shift assay results indicated that the two RNA-recognition motifs(RRM)of BmLARK are simultaneously required for the binding with the G4 structure.Either RRM1 or RRM2 alone could not bind with the G4 structure.The zinc-finger motif was not involved in the binding.A series of mutant proteins with specific amino acid mutations were expressed and used to identify the key amino acid residues involving the interaction.The results indicated thatβsheets,especially theβ1 andβ3 sheets,in the RRM domains of BmLARK played critical roles in the binding with the G4 structure.Several amino acid mutations of RRM1/2 in ribonucleoprotein domain 1(RNP1)(motif inβ3 strand)and RNP2(motif inβ1 strand)caused loss of binding ability,indicating that these amino acids are the key sites for the binding.All the results suggest that RRM domains,particularly their the RNP1 and RNP2 motifs,play important roles not only in RNA recognition,but also in the G4 structure binding.Yuling Peng Kangkang Niu Guoxing Yu Mingxi Zheng Qiulan Wei Qisheng Song Qili Feng 2021Insect Science2021,28,4:0
