| 1 | The China Multi-Model Ensemble Prediction System and Its Application to Flood-Season Prediction in 2018显示文摘Multi-model ensemble prediction is an effective approach for improving the prediction skill short-term climate prediction and evaluating related uncertainties. Based on a combination of localized operation outputs of Chinese climate models and imported forecast data of some international operational models, the National Climate Center of the China Meteorological Administration has established the China multi-model ensemble prediction system version 1.0 (CMMEv1.0) for monthly-seasonal prediction of primary climate variability modes and climate elements. We verified the real-time forecasts of CMMEv1.0 for the 2018 flood season (June-August) starting from March 2018 and evaluated the 1991-2016 hindcasts of CMMEv1.0. The results show that CMMEv1.0 has a significantly high prediction skill for global sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies, especially for the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in the tropical central-eastern Pacific. Additionally, its prediction skill for the North Atlantic SST triple (NAST) mode is high, but is relatively low for the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) mode. Moreover, CMMEv1.0 has high skills in predicting the western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) and East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) in the June-July-August (JJA) season. The JJA air temperature in the CMMEv1.0 is predicted with a fairly high skill in most regions of China, while the JJA precipitation exhibits some skills only in northwestern and eastern China. For real-time forecasts in March-August 2018, CMMEv1.0 has accurately predicted the ENSO phase transition from cold to neutral in the tropical central-eastern Pacific and captures evolutions of the NAST and IOD indices in general. The system has also captured the main features of the summer WPSH and EASM indices in 2018, except that the predicted EASM is slightly weaker than the observed. | 2 | Emodin alleviates cardiac fibrosis by suppressing activation of cardiac fibroblasts via upregulating metastasis associated protein 3显示文摘Excess activation of cardiac fibroblasts inevitably induces cardiac fibrosis. Emodin has been used as a natural medicine against several chronic diseases. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of emodin on cardiac fibrosis and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Intragastric administration of emodin markedly decreased left ventricular wall thickness in a mouse model of pathological cardiac hypertrophy with excess fibrosis induced by transaortic constriction(TAC) and suppressed activation of cardiac fibroblasts induced by angiotensin II(AngII). Emodin upregulated expression of metastasis associated protein 3(MTA3) and restored the MTA3 expression in the setting of cardiac fibrosis. Moreover, overexpression of MTA3 promoted cardiac fibrosis;in contrast, silence of MTA3 abrogated the inhibitory effect of emodin on fibroblast activation. | 3 | An experimental and thermodynamic equilibrium investigation of the Pb,Zn,Cr,Cu,Mn and Ni partitioning during sewage sludge incineration显示文摘The effects of different chlorides and operational conditions on the distribution and speciation of six heavy metals(Pb, Zn, Cr, Cu, Mn and Ni) during sludge incineration were investigated using a simulated laboratory tubular-furnace reactor. A thermodynamic equilibrium investigation using the Fact Sage software was performed to compare the experimental results. The results indicate that the volatility of the target metals was enhanced as the chlorine concentration increased. Inorganic-Cl influenced the volatilization of heavy metals in the order of Pb > Zn > Cr > Cu > Mn > Ni. However, the effects of organic-Cl on the volatility of Mn, Pb and Cu were greater than the effects on Zn, Cr and Ni.With increasing combustion temperature, the presence of organic-Cl(PVC) and inorganic-Cl(NaCl) improved the transfer of Pb and Zn from bottom ash to fly ash or fuse gas. However,the presence of chloride had no obvious influence on Mn, Cu and Ni. Increased retention time could increase the volatilization rate of heavy metals; however, this effect was insignificant. During the incineration process, Pb readily formed Pb SiO4 and remained in the bottom ash. | 5 | Preparation of High-Strength Al–Mg–Si/Al_2O_3 Composites with Lamellar Structures Using Freeze Casting and Pressureless Infiltration Techniques显示文摘Lamellar porous alumina scaffolds with the initial solid loadings of 20, 25, and 30 vol% were prepared by freeze casting using 5 lm alumina powders. With the addition of 3 wt% Mg O–Al2O3–Si O2 nanopowders in a eutectic composition as sintering aid, the maximum compressive strength of the sintered scaffolds reached(64 ± 2) MPa after sintering at 1,773 K for 2 h. The lamellar porous scaffolds were then filled with a molten Al–12Si–10 Mg alloy(in wt%)by pressureless infiltration at 1,223 K in a N2 atmosphere, yielding the shell-like structure of the composites. | 7 | Berberine mediates root remodeling in an immature tooth with apical periodontitis by regulating stem cells from apical papilla differentiation显示文摘Once pulp necrosis or apical periodontitis occurs on immature teeth,the weak root and open root apex are challenging to clinicians.Berberine(BBR)is a potential medicine for bone disorders,therefore,we proposed to apply BBR in root canals to enhance root repair in immature teeth.An in vivo model of immature teeth with apical periodontitis was established in rats,and root canals were filled with BBR,calcium hydroxide or sterilized saline for 3 weeks.The shape of the roots was analyzed by micro-computed tomography and histological staining.In vitro,BBR was introduced into stem cells from apical papilla(SCAPs).Osteogenic differentiation of stem cells from apical papilla was investigated by alkaline phosphatase activity,mineralization ability,and gene expression of osteogenic makers.The signaling pathway,which regulated the osteogenesis of SCAPs was evaluated by quantitative real time PCR,Western blot analysis,and immunofluorescence.In rats treated with BBR,more tissue was formed,with longer roots,thicker root walls,and smaller apex diameters.In addition,we found that BBR promoted SCAPs osteogenesis in a time-dependent and concentration-dependent manner.BBR induced the expression ofβ-catenin and enhancedβ-catenin entering into the nucleus,to up-regulate more runt-related nuclear factor 2 downstream.BBR enhanced root repair in immature teeth with apical periodontitis by activating the canonical Wnt/β-catenin pathway in SCAPs. | Yujia Cui Jing Xie Yujie Fu Chuwen Li Liwei Zheng Dingming Huang Changchun Zhou Jianxun Sun Xuedong Zhou | 2020 | International Journal of Oral Science2020,12,2: | 5 |
| 8 | Variation in glomalin in soil profiles and its association with climatic conditions,shelterbelt characteristics,and soil properties in poplar shelterbelts of Northeast China显示文摘Glomalin-related soil protein(GRSP)sequesters large amounts of carbon and plays important roles in maintaining terrestrial soil ecosystem functions and ecological restoration;however,little is known about GRSP variation in 1-m soil profiles and its association with stand characteristics,soil properties,and climatic conditions,hindering GRSP-related degraded soil improvement and GRSP evaluation.In this study,we sampled soils from 1-m profiles from poplar(Populus spp.)shelterbelts in Northeast China.GRSP contents were 1.8–2.0 times higher in the upper 40 cm soil layers than at 40–100 cm.GRSP-related soil organic carbon(SOC)sequestration in deeper soil layers was*1.2 times higher than in surface layers.The amounts of GRSP-related nutrients were similar throughout the soil profile.A redundancy analysis showed that in both surface and deeper layers,soil properties(pH,electrical conductivity,water,SOC,and soil nutrients)explained the majority of the GRSP variation(59.5–84.2%);the second-most-important factor in GRSP regulation was climatic conditions(temperature,precipitation,and altitude),while specific shelterbelt characteristics had negligible effects(<5%).Soil depth and climate indirectly affected GRSP features via soil properties,as manifested by structural equation model analysis.Our findings demonstrate that GRSP is important for carbon storage in deep soils,regardless of shelterbelt characteristics.Future glomalin assessments should consider these vertical patterns and possible regulating mechanisms that are related to soil properties and climatic changes. | Qiong Wang Wenjie Wang Zhaoliang Zhong Huimei Wang Yujie Fu | 2020 | Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,1: | 5 |

| 11 | Mesenchymal stem cells for treatment of aortic aneurysms显示文摘An aortic aneurysm(AA) is a silent but life-threatening disease that involves rupture. It occurs mainly in aging and severe atherosclerotic damage of the aortic wall. Even though surgical intervention is effective to prevent rupture, surgery for the thoracic and thoraco-abdom-inal aorta is an invasive procedure with high mortality and morbidity. Therefore, an alternative strategy for treatment of AA is required. Recently, the molecular pathology of AA has been clarified. AA is caused by an imbalance between the synthesis and degradation of extracellular matrices in the aortic wall. Chronic inflam-mation enhances the degradation of matrices directly and indirectly, making control of the chronic inflamma-tion crucial for aneurysmal development. Meanwhile, mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) are known to be ob-tained from an adult population and to differentiate into various types of cells. In addition, MSCs have not only the potential anti-inflammatory and immunosuppres-sive properties but also can be recruited into damagedtissue. MSCs have been widely used as a source for celltherapy to treat various diseases involving graft-versus-host disease, stroke, myocardial infarction, and chronicinflammatory disease such as Crohn's disease clinically.Therefore, administration of MSCs might be availableto treat AA using anti-inflammatory and immnosup-pressive properties. | 13 | Temperature-dependent electrical properties of β-Ga_2O_3Schottky barrier diodes on highly doped single-crystal substrates显示文摘Beta-phase gallium oxide(β-Ga_2O_3) Schottky barrier diodes were fabricated on highly doped single-crystal substrates,where their temperature-dependent electrical properties were comprehensively investigated by forward and reverse current density – voltage and capacitance – voltage characterization. Both the Schottky barrier height and the ideality factor showed a temperature-dependence behavior, revealing the inhomogeneous nature of the Schottky barrier interface caused by the interfacial defects. With a voltage-dependent Schottky barrier incorporated into thermionic emission theory, the inhomogeneous barrier model can be further examined. Furthermore, the reverse leakage current was found to be dominated by the bulk leakage currents due to the good material and surface quality. Leakage current per distance was also obtained.
