Reservoir-induced landslides and risk control in Three Gorges Project on Yangtze River,China显示文摘The Three Gorges region in China was basically a geohazard-prone area prior to construction of the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR).After construction of the TGR,the water level was raised from 70 m to 175 m above sea level(ASL).and annual reservoir regulation has caused a 30-m water level difference after impoundment of the TGR since September 2008.This paper first presents the spatiotemporal distribution of landslides in six periods of 175 m ASL trial impoundments from 2008 to 2014.The results show that the number of landslides sharply decreased from 273 at the initial stage to less than ten at the second stage of impoundment.Based on this, the reservoir-induced landslides in the TGR region can be roughly classified into five failure patterns,i.e.accumulation landslide,dip-slope landslide, reversed bedding landslide, rockfall, and karst breccia landslide. The accumulation landslides and dip-slope landslides account for more than 90%.Taking the Shuping accumulation landslide(a sliding mass volume of 20.7 × 10~6 m^3) in Zigui County and the Outang dip-slope landslide(a sliding mass volume of about 90 × 10~6 m^3) in Fengjie County as two typical cases, the mechanisms of reactivation of the two landslides are analyzed. The monitoring data and factor of safety(FOS) calculation show that the accumulation landslide is dominated by water level variation in the reservoir as most part of the mass body is under 175 m ASL,and the dip-slope landslide is controlled by the coupling effect of reservoir water level variation and precipitation as an extensive recharge area of rainfall from the rear and the front mass is below 175 m ASL.The characteristics of landslide-induced impulsive wave hazards after and before reservoir impoundment are studied, and the probability of occurrence of a landslide-induced impulsive wave hazard has increased in the reservoir region.Simulation results of the Ganjingzi landslide in Wushan County indicate the strong relationship between landslide-induced surge and water variation with high potential risk to shipping and residential areas.Regarding reservoir regulation in TGR when using a single index,i.e.1-d water level variation, water resources are not well utilized, and there is also potential risk of disasters since 2008.In addition, various indices such as 1-d.5-d,and 10-d water level variations are proposed for reservoir regulation. Finally, taking reservoir-induced landslides in June2015 for example, the feasibility of the optimizing indices of water level variations is verified. | Yueping Yin Bolin Huang Wenpei Wang Yunjie Wei Xiaohan Ma Fei Ma Changjun Zhao | 2016 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,5: | 45
Landslide Developmental Characteristics and Response to Climate Change since the Last Glacial in the Upper Reaches of the Yellow River, NE Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The upper reaches of the Yellow River in northeastern Tibetan Plateau are geohazards areas. The evolution of the Yellow River, chronology of some landslides, and spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of super large scale and giant landslides within the region are summarized using paleoclimate evidence, and the relationship between the intensive landslide period and climatic changes since the Last Glacial period is analyzed. It is concluded that(1) Super large scale and giant landslides are distributed widely within the region, particularly in the Qunke-Jianzha basin.(2) The chronological sequence of landslides is established by dating the slip zones of landslides and analyzing the relations between landslides and their overlying or underlying loess formations. Five landslide development periods are determined: 53–49 ka BP, 33–24 ka BP, 10–8 ka BP, 5–3.5 ka BP, and the present.(3) These correspond closely to warm and wet periods during the last 100,000 years, i.e., two weak paleosol development stages of Malan loess deposited during the last Glacial period in the Chinese loess Plateau, L1-4 and L1-2 that belong to the marine oxygen isotope stage 3, the last deglacial period, the Holocene Optimum, and the modern global warming period.(4) Landslide triggers may be closely linked to warm and wet periods related to rapid climatic transitions. | YIN Zhiqiang QIN Xiaoguang YIN Yueping ZHAO Wuji WEI Gang | 2014 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2014,88,2: | 16

Photocatalytic degradation kinetics and mechanism of pentachlorophenol based on superoxide radicals显示文摘The micron grade multi-metal oxide bismuth silicate (Bi 12 SiO 20,BSO) was prepared by the chemical solution decomposition technique.Photocatalytic degradation of pentachlorophenol (PCP) was investigated in the presence of BSO under xenon lamp irradiation. The reaction kinetics followed pseudo first-order and the degradation ratio achieved 99.1% after 120 min at an initial PCP concentration of 2.0 mg/L.The pH decreased from 6.2 to 4.6 and the dechlorination ratio was 68.4% after 120 min at an initial PCP concentration of 8.0 mg/L.The results of electron spin resonance showed that superoxide radical (O 2 · ) was largely responsible for the photocatalytic degradation of PCP.Interestingly, this result was different from that of previous photocatalytic reactions where valence band holes or hydroxyl radicals played the role of major oxidants. Some aromatic compounds and aliphatic carboxylic acids were determined by GC/MS as the reaction intermediates, which indicated that O 2 · can attack the bond between the carbon and chlorine atoms to form less chlorinated aromatic compounds. The aromatic compounds were further oxidized by O 2 · to generate aliphatic carboxylic acids which can be finally mineralized to CO 2 and H 2 O. | Yang Li Junfeng Niu Lifeng Yin Wenlong Wang Yueping Bao Jing Chen Yanpei Duan | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,11: | 9
Recent catastrophic landslides and mitigation in China显示文摘Increasing population density and development of mountainous terrain have brought human settlements within reach of landslide hazards. In recent years, due to the shortening of return period for severe natural events such as heavy rainfall, snowline retreating, great earthquake together with human activities, catastrophic landslides happened more frequently than before, resulting in large-scale casualties due to the increasing occurrences of rapid long-runout rock avalanches, especially in China. This paper presents some typical case histories related to the catastrophic landslides, including the Guanling rock avalanche, the Yigong rockslide-debris avalanche, the Wenchuan earthquake-induced landslides and the Danba landslide. They occurred in the last decade. Moreover, taking the Jiweishan catastrophic rockslide-fragment flow and the Yuhuangge landslide located in the new Wushan Town for examples,early-warning system and risk management on landslides are discussed in detail. | Yueping Yin China Geological Survey,Beijing,100035,China | 2011 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2011,3,1: | 8
Physical Modeling of Landslide Mechanism in Oblique Thick-Bedded Rock Slope: A Case Study显示文摘The Jiweishan landslide illustrates the failure pattern of an apparent dip slide of an oblique thick-bedded rockslide. Centrifugal modeling was performed using a model slope consisting of four sets of joints to investigate the landslide initiation mechanism. Crack strain gauges pasted between the slide blocks and the base failed in sequence from the rear to the front as the centrifugal acceleration increased. When the acceleration reached 16.3g, the instantaneous failure of the key block in the front triggered the apparent dip slide of all blocks. The physical modeling results and previous studies suggest that the strength reduction in the weak layer and the failure of the key block are the main reasons for the Jiweishan landslide. The centrifuge experiment validated the previously proposed driving-blocks-key-block model of apparent dip slide in oblique with inclined bedding rock slopes. In addition, the results from limit equilibrium method and centrifuge test suggest that even though the failure of the key block in the front is instantaneous, a progressive stable-unstable transition exists. | FENG Zhen YIN Yueping LI Bin YAN Jinkai | 2013 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2013,87,4: | 5

Multi-dimensional and long-term time series monitoring and early warning of landslide hazard with improved cross-platform SAR offset tracking method显示文摘Multi-dimensional, long-term time series displacement monitoring is crucial for generating early warnings for active landslides and for mitigating geohazards. The synthetic aperture radar(SAR) interferometry method has been widely applied to achieve small-gradient landslide displacement monitoring;however, measuring the landslide displacement with a steep gradient has posed certain challenges. In comparison, the SAR offset tracking method is a powerful tool for mapping large-gradient landslide displacement in both the slant-range and azimuth directions. Nevertheless, there are some limitations in the existing SAR offset tracking approaches:(i) the measurement accuracy is greatly reduced by the extreme topography relief in high mountain areas,(ii) a fixed matching window from expert experience is usually adopted in the calculation of cross-correlation,(iii) estimating the long-term displacements between the SAR images from cross-platforms and with longer spatiotemporal baselines is a challenging task, and(iv) it is difficult to calculate the three-dimensional(3D) landslide displacements using a single SAR dataset.Additionally, only a few studies have focused on how to realize early warning of landslide deformation using SAR measurements. To address these issues, this paper presents an improved cross-platform SAR offset tracking method, which can not only estimate high-precision landslide displacements in two and three dimensions but also calculate long-term time series displacements over a decade using cross-platform SAR offset tracking measurements. Initially, we optimize the traditional SAR offset tracking workflow to estimate high-precision ground displacements, in which three improvements are highlighted:(i) an“ortho-rectification” operation is applied to restrain the effect of topography relief,(ii) an “adaptive matching window” is adopted in the cross-correlation computation, and(iii) a new strategy is proposed to combine all the possible offset pairs and optimally design the displacement inversion network based on the “optimization theory” of geodetic inversion. Next, robust mathematical equations are built to estimate the two-dimensional(2D) and 3D long-term time series landslide displacements using cross-platform SAR observations. The M-estimator is introduced into the 2D displacement inversion equation to restrain the outliers, and the total least squares criterion is adopted to estimate the 3D displacements considering the random errors in both the design matrix and observations. We take the Laojingbian landslide, Wudongde Reservoir Area(China), as an example to demonstrate the proposed method using ALOS/PALSAR-1 and ALOS/PALSAR-2 images. The results reveal that the proposed method significantly outperforms traditional methods. We also retrieve the movement direction of each pixel of the Laojingbian landslide using the proposed method, thus allowing us to understand the fine-scale landslide kinematics. Finally, we capture and analyze the acceleration characteristics of the landslide, perform an early warning of hazard, and forecast the future displacement evolution based on the 3D displacement time series coupled with the physical models of the rocks. | YIN YuePing LIU XiaoJie ZHAO ChaoYing TOMÁS Roberto ZHANG Qin LU Zhong LI Bin | 2022 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2022,65,8: | 1
