Quantitative analysis of torrential rainfall associated with typhoon landfall:A case study of typhoon Haitang(2005)显示文摘A quantitative analysis of torrential rainfall associated with typhoon Haitang(2005) is carried out using a modified moist ageostrophic Q vector and data from Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF) model simulation.Four major factors determining the ascending motion associated with torrential rainfall have been studied:large-scale and convective condensational heating, topographic lifting and friction. The results show that the convective condensational heating plays a major role in the torrential rainfall process, and the large-scale condensational heating is secondary before the landfall of typhoon Haitang, and vice versa after the landfall. The topographic lifting affects the formation of rainfall, whereas the topographic friction has important impacts on torrential rainfall after the landfall. The rainfall amounts forced by the topographic friction and lifting have similar horizontal distributions, but the magnitudes of the former are 2-3 times larger than those of the latter. The rainfall amounts forced by topography(lifting and friction) and modified moist ageostrophic Q vector have different horizontal distributions, and the magnitudes of the former are 2-5 times larger than those of the latter.Synthetic analysis shows that the typhoon rainfall may be motivated by modified moist ageostrophic Q vector and enhanced further by the topographic effects. | Caijun Yue | 2009 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,1: | 10
A Diagnostic Study of the Asymmetric Distribution of Rainfall during the Landfall of Typhoon Haitang(2005)显示文摘The precipitation during landfall of typhoon Haitang(2005) showed asymmetric structures(left side/right side of the track). Analysis of Weather Research and Forecasting model simulation data showed that rainfall on the right side was more than 15 times stronger than on the left side. The causes were analyzed by focusing on comparing the water vapor flux, stability and upward motion between the two sides. The major results were as follows:(1) Relative humidity on both sides was over80%,whereas the convergence of water vapor flux in the lower troposphere was about 10 times larger on the right side than on the left side.(2) Both sides featured conditional symmetric instability [MPV(moist potential vorticity) <0],but the right side was more unstable than the left side.(3) Strong(weak) upward motion occurred throughout the troposphere on the right(left) side. The Q vector diagnosis suggested that large-scale and mesoscale forcing accounted for the difference in vertical velocity. Orographic lift and surface friction forced the development of the asymmetric precipitation pattern. On the right side, strong upward motion from the forcing of different scale weather systems and topography caused a substantial release of unstable energy and the transportation of water vapor from the lower to the upper troposphere, which produced torrential rainfall. However, the above conditions on the left side were all much weaker, which led to weaker rainfall. This may have been the cause of the asymmetric distribution of rainfall during the landfall of typhoon Haitang. | YUE Caijun GAO Shouting LIU Lu LI Xiaofan | 2015 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2015,32,10: | 6
Safety of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines:a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials显示文摘Background Various modalities of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),based on different platforms and immunization procedures, have been successively approved for marketing worldwide.A comprehensive review for clinical trials assessing the safety of COVID-19 vaccines is urgently needed to make an accurate judgment for mass vaccination.Main text A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine the safety of COVID-19 vaccine candidates in randomized controlled trials(RCTs).Data search was performed in PubMed,Embase,Cochrane library,Scopus,Web of Science, and MedRxiv.Included articles were limited to RCTs on COVID-19 vaccines.A total of 73,633 subjects from 14 articles were included to compare the risks of adverse events following immunization(AEFI)after vaccinating different COVID-19 vaccines.Pooled risk ratios(RR)of total AEFI for inactivated vaccine,viral-vectored vaccine, and mRNA vaccine were 1.34[95%confidence interval(CI)1.11–1.61,P<0.001],1.65(95%CI 1.31–2.07,P<0.001),and 2.01(95%CI 1.78–2.26,P<0.001),respectively.No significant differences on local and systemic AEFI were found between the first dose and second dose.In addition, people aged≤55 years were at significantly higher risk of AEFI than people aged≥56 years, with a pooled RR of 1.25(95%CI 1.15–1.35,P<0.001).Conclusions The safety and tolerance of current COVID-19 vaccine candidates are acceptable for mass vaccination, with inactivated COVID-19 vaccines candidates having the lowest reported AEFI.Long-term surveillance of vaccine safety is required, especially among elderly people with underlying medical conditions. | Musha Chen Yue Yuan Yiguo Zhou Zhaomin Deng Jin Zhao Fengling Feng Huachun Zou Caijun Sun | 2021 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,4: | 2

Evaluation on the applicability of ERA5 reanalysis dataset to tropical cyclones affecting Shanghai显示文摘Based on the 16 historical tropical cyclones(TCs)affecting Shanghai from 2007 to 2019,the suitability of ERA5 for studying TCs affecting Shanghai is systematically evaluated from the perspective of TC track,intensity,10-m and upper-level wind, using TC best-track data of China Meteorological Administration and surface observations and sounding data.Corresponding to tropical storm(TS),strong tropical storm(STS),typhoon(TY),strong typhoon(STY)and super typhoon(SuperTY),the median TC track bias is 68.1,52.9,42.5,25.4,and 18.2 km,respectively, the median maximum 10-m wind speed(VMAX10m)bias is-3.7,-6.5,-11.4,-21.7,and-32.2 m·s-1,respectively,and the median minimum mean sea level pressure(MSLPmin)bias is 2.2,5.6,8.1,28.2,and 48.7 hPa,respectively. With the increase of TC intensity, the median TC track bias decreases, while the median VMAX10m and MSLPmin bias increase. In general,VMAX10m in ERA5 is lower than observed, and MSLPmin is larger than observed.Under influence of TS,STS,TY and STY,the median 10-m wind speed(V10m)bias in the city is 3.2,4.2,4.7,and 5.4 m·s-1,respectively,and is 4.4-5.2 m·s-1 near the east coast,respectively.V10m is mostly biased high, showing an'M'type pattern with the distance between TC and Shanghai. The median 10 m wind direction(WD10m)bias is in a range of-7° to+7°.The median upper-level wind speed(Vupper)bias decreases with height, with a maximum of~5 m·s-1 at 975 hPa.Below 900 hPa Vupperin ERA5 is typically larger than the radiosonde observation, and its mean bias error(MBE)increases with TC intensity. The upper-level wind direction(WDupper)matches the sounding data well, with a maximum bias of a few degrees only. The results provide a reference for the application of ERA5 to coastal cities affected by TCs. | Zhihui HAN Caijun YUE Changhai LIU Wen GU Yuqi TANG Yongyu LI | 2022 | Frontiers of Earth Science2022,16,4: | 0
Safety and Immunogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 Vaccines in People Living With HIV:A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Real-World Studies显示文摘The safety and immunogenicity of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)vaccines in people living with HIV(PLWH)in real-world studies remain controversial. Thus,we conducted a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis to address this issue.Data search were conducted from PubMed,Web of Science and EMBASE.Adverse events following vaccination, the risk ratio(RR)of SARS-CoV-2–specific IgG seroconversion and the level of anti–SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies were compared between the PLWH group and a healthy control group.A total of 10,582 PLWH from 22 studies were included. In our analysis, the incidence of local or systemic adverse events after the first SARS-CoV-2 vaccine dose was not statistically different between PLWH and healthy controls. However, there was a statistical difference after the second dose(RR,0.83;95%CI,0.71–0.98).The seroconversion rate of SARS-CoV-2 IgGantibodies in PLWH was significantly lower than that in the healthy control group(RR,0.94;95%CI,0.89–0.98;I2=80%,P<0.01).The anti–SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody titers in PLWH after full immunization were also significantly lower than those in the healthy control group(RR,0.91;95%CI,0.85–0.98;I2=81%,P<0.01).The safety and tolerance of COVID-19 vaccines in PLWHare acceptable. However, their immunogenicitymay be impaired to a certain extent, characterized by a lower IgGseroconversion rate and neutralizing antibody titers compared with healthy individuals. These findings should provide guidance for optimizing future COVID-19 vaccination strategies among PLWH. | Xueying Fan Yangguo Zhao Fan Wu Yue Yuan Bing Lang Di Yin Zhongliang Xu Shiqiang Jiang Huachun Zou Jianhui Yuan Caijun Sun | 2023 | Infectious Microbes & Diseases2023,5,4: | 0
Effect of Using Land Use Data with Building Characteristics on Urban Weather Simulations:A High Temperature Event in Shanghai显示文摘Land use data with building characteristics are important for modeling the impacts of urban morphology on local climate. In this study,an extreme heat event in Shanghai,China, was simulated by using a WRF/BEP+BEM(Weather Research and Forecasting/Building Effect Parameterization+Building Energy Model)model. We incorporated local climate zone(LCZ)land use data that resolved urban morphology using 10 classes of building parameters. The simulation was compared to a control case based on MODIS(Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer)land use data. The findings are as follows:(1)the LCZ data performed better than the MODIS data for simulating 10-m wind speed. An increase in building height led to the wind speed to decrease by 0.6-1.4 m s^(-1)in the daytime and by 0.2-0.7 m s^(-1)at nighttime.(2)High-rise buildings warmed the air by trapping radiation in the urban canyon. This warming effect was partially offset by the cooling effect of building shadows in the day.As a result, the 2-m temperature increased by 0.8℃ at night but only by 0.4℃ during the day.(3)Heterogeneous urban surfaces increased the 50-m turbulent kinetic energy by 0.4 m^(2) s^(-2),decreased the 10-m wind speed by 1.8 m s^(-1)in the daytime, increased the surface net radiation by 45.1 W m^(2)-,and increased the 2-m temperature by 1.5℃ at nighttime.(4)The LCZ data modified the atmospheric circulation between land and ocean. The shadowing effect reduced the air temperature differences between land and ocean and weakened the sea breeze.Moreover,high-rise buildings obstructed sea breezes, restricting their impact to a smaller portion(10 km along the wind direction)of inland areas compared to that with MODIS. | Dahu YANG Yongwei WANG Caijun YUE | 2022 | Journal of Meteorological Research2022,36,6: | 0
