| 1 | Climate instability in the Yili region, Xinjiang during the last glaciation显示文摘The climate is influenced by westerlies year in year out and the aeolian loess is widespread in the Yili region, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Through the study of the loess section with a thickness of 21.5 m, much useful information about climatic change in this region during the last glaciation was gotten. Grain size analysis of loess samples in the section showed that the climatic change in the Yili region was of instability during the last glaciation and similar to those of the North Atlantic Ocean and Greenland. In correspondence with the Heinrich events, the percentage of the size fraction of loess with grain size less than 10 μm decreased in cold stadials in the Yili region. This result suggests that the westerly wind be strengthened during the cold periods. Compared with the stadials, the content of the loess with grain size less than 10 μm was increased in interstadials, which indicated that the strength of the westerly wind was weakened. | 2 | A capacitive sensor based on molecularly imprinted polymers and poly(p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid) film for detection of pazufloxacin mesilate显示文摘A novel capacitive sensor for pazufloxacin mesilate (pazufloxacin) determination was developed by electropolymerizing p-aminobenzene sulfonic (p-ABSA) and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), which was synthesized through thermal radical copolymerization of metharylic acid (MAA) and ethyl-ene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in the presence of pazufloxacin template molecules, on the gold electrode surface. Furthermore, 1-dedecanethiol was used to insulate the modified electrode. Alter-nating current (ac) impedance experiments were carried out with a Model IM6e to obtain the capaci-tance responses. Under the optimum conditions, the sensor showed linear capacitance response to pazufloxacin in the range of 5 ng·mL-1 to 5 μg·mL-1 with a relative standard deviation (RSD) 5.3% (n=7) and a detection limit of 1.8 ng·mL-1. The recoveries for different concentration levels of pazufloxacin samples varied from 94.0% to 102.0%. | 9 | Egg rejection based on egg size recognition as a specific strategy against parasitic cuckoos显示文摘In the coevolutionary interactions between avian brood parasites and their hosts,egg recognition based on color and/or pattern is a common and effective defense to counter parasitism.However,for egg recognition based on size,only a few studies have found affirmative results,and they do not provide unambiguous evidence that egg size recognition in hosts has evolved as an important and specific anti-parasite adaptation against parasite eggs.We studied the brood parasite system between the Asian emerald cuckoo Chrysococcyx maculatus and its host,the chestnut-crowned warbler Phylloscopus castaniceps.The cuckoo parasitizes the warbler using non-mimetic and larger eggs at a parasitism rate of 12.9%.The warbler nests used in this experiment were built in a dark environment with the nest illuminance near 0 lux.Experiments with 2 types of model eggs with colors and patterns resembling cuckoo eggs of different sizes(cuckoo egg size or host egg size)showed that the warblers were able to reject 63.6%of cuckoo model eggs under these dim light conditions.However,model eggs with the same color and pattern similar to the warbler egg size were always accepted.This study provides strong evidence supporting the theory that egg size recognition can be evolved in hosts as a specific anti-parasite adaptation against cuckoos.We suggest that the egg size recognition of the warbler is an outcome of the tradeoff between the costs of violating the parental investment rule and suffering cuckoo parasitism. | Ping Ye Yan Cai Neng Wu Xiaogang Yao Guangrong Li Wei Liang Canchao Yang | 2023 | Current Zoology2023,69,2: | 0 |
