In Vitro Evaluation of the Feasibility of Commercial Zn Alloys as Biodegradable Metals显示文摘In this work, three widely used commercial Zn alloys(ZA4-1, ZA4-3, ZA6-1) were purchased and prepared by hot extrusion at 200 °C. The microstructure, mechanical properties, corrosion behaviors, biocompatibility and hemocompatibility of Zn alloys were studied with pure Zn as control. Commercial Zn alloys demonstrated increased strength and superb elongation compared with pure Zn. Accelerated corrosion rates and uniform corrosion morphologies were observed in terms of commercial Zn alloys due to galvanic effects between Zn matrix and α-Al phases. 100% extracts of ZA4-1 and ZA6-1 alloys showed mild cytotoxicity while 50% extracts of all samples displayed good biocompatibility. Retardant cell cycle and inhibited stress fibers expression were observed induced by high concentration of Zn^(2+) releasing during corrosion. The hemolysis ratios of Zn alloys were lower than 1% while the adhered platelets showed slightly activated morphologies. In general, commercial Zn alloys possess promising mechanical properties, appropriate corrosion rates, significantly improved biocompatibility and good hemocompatibility in comparison to pure Zn. It is feasible to develop biodegradable metals based on commercial Zn alloys.C.Wang H.T.Yang X.Li Y.F.Zheng 2016Journal of Materials Science & Technology2016,32,9:21
Comparative in vitro Study on Pure Metals(Fe,Mn,Mg,Zn and W) as Biodegradable Metals显示文摘Five pure metals including Fe,Mn,Mg,Zn and W have been investigated on their corrosion behavior and in vitro biocompatibility by electrochemical measurement, static immersion test, contact angle measurement, cytotoxicity and hemocompatibility tests. It is found that the sequence of corrosion rate of five metals in Hank's solution from high to low is:Mg > Fe > Zn > Mn > W.Fe,Mg and W show no cytotoxicity to L929 and ECV304 cells,Mn induces significant cytotoxicity to both L929 and ECV304 cells, and Zn has almost no inhibition effect on the metabolic activities of ECV304 while largely reduces the cell viability of L929 cells. The hemolysis percentage of five pure metals is lower than 5%except for Mg and platelets adhered on Zn has been activated and pseudopodia-like structures can be observed while platelets on the other four metals keep normal.J.Cheng B.Liu Y.H.Wu Y.F.Zheng 2013Journal of Materials Science & Technology2013,29,7:20
Effects of annealing treatment on microstructure and tensile behavior of the Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy显示文摘In the present study, the Mg-4Zn-0.6Y-0.5Nd alloy was hot extruded and annealed at 200℃,225℃ and 250℃ for different time to optimize microstructure and mechanical properties. The results exhibit that the dual-size grain structure and linearly distributed secondary phase are the main feature of the as-extruded Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy, which can be described as the elongated grain is surrounded by the fine equiaxed grain. Moreover, the as-extruded alloy shows strong{011^(-)0}fiber texture feature, especially for the large elongated grains. The annealing treatment results in static recrystallization, which increases fine equiaxed grains but decreases large elongated grains. In addition, the equiaxed grains formed during the annealing treatment demonstrate relative random orientations, which weaken the{011^(-)0}fiber texture of the alloy. Moreover, during the annealing at 225℃and 250℃,the extension twins begin to form in the alloy and weaken the{011^(-)0}fiber texture of the alloy further. The annealing treatment has little influence on the linearly distributed secondary phase but promotes the coarsening of small precipitates at 250℃.The annealing treatment could increase the yield and ultimate strength, but the elongation decreases, especially at higher temperature.Such a variation can be ascribed to the evolution of texture, grain structure, twinning and precipitation during the annealing treatment.L.Y.Sheng B.N.Du Z.Y.Hu Y.X.Qiao Z.P.Xiao B.J.Wang D.K.Xu Y.F.Zheng T.F.Xi 2020Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,3:10
In vitro Study on Biodegradable AZ31 Magnesium Alloy Fibers Reinforced PLGA Composite显示文摘AZ31 magnesium alloy fibers reinforced poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA) composites were prepared and their mechanical property, immersion corrosion behavior and biocompatibility were studied. The tensile test showed that with the addition of AZ31 fibers, the composites had a significant increment in tensile strength and elongation. For the direct cell attachment test, all the cells showed a healthy morphology and spread well on the experimental sample surfaces. The immersion results indicated that pH values of the immersion medium increased with increasing AZ31 fiber contents. All the in vitro experimental results indicated that this new kind of magnesium alloy fibers reinforced PLGA composites show a potential for future biomedical applications.Y.H.Wu N.Li Y.Cheng Y.F.Zheng Y.Han 2013Journal of Materials Science & Technology2013,29,6:8
Microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of the hot extruded Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloys显示文摘A new type of Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy for degradable orthopedic implants was developed. In the present study, the Zn and Y content was adjusted and their influences on the microstructures and mechanical behaviors were discussed in depth. The results showed that the as-extruded Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloys are mainly composed of fine dynamic recrystallized grains(DRXed grains),la rge unDRXed grains and linearly distributed secondary phases. The cha nge of Zn content exerts little influence on the grain structure of the extruded Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy, while the increase of Y content would hinder the dynamic recrystallization process and the growth of the DRXed grains, thus the size and volume fraction of the equiaxed DRXed grains decrease. The tensile and compressive properties are very little affected by Zn content because of the similar grain structure. As Y content increases, the tensile yield strength(TYS) and ultimate strength(TUS) increase while the elongation decreases, this is caused by a combined strengthening effect of grain refinement, texture, precipitation and twinning. The compressive yield strength(CYS) and ultimate strength(CUS) of Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy with diffe rent Y content exhibit a similar tendency as the tensile test.B.N.Du Z.Y.Hu L.Y.Sheng D.K.Xu Y.X.Qiao B.J.Wang J.Wang Y.F.Zheng T.F.Xi 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,1:6
Nanocrystalline Ti49.2Ni50.8 shape memory alloy as orthopaedic implant material with better performance显示文摘Ti Ni alloys, with their unique shape memory effects and super elastic properties, occupy an indispensable place in the family of metallic biomaterials. In the past years, surface treatment is the main technique to improve the bioinert nature of microcrystalline Ti Ni alloys and inhibit on the release of toxic nickel ions to obtain excellent osteogenesis and osseointegration function. In the present study, nanocrystalline Ti49.2Ni50.8 alloy has been fabricated via equal channel angular pressing(ECAP), and the in vitro and in vivo studies revealed that it had enhanced cell viability, adhesion, proliferation, ALP(Alkaline phosphatase)activity and mineralization, and increased periphery thickness of new bone, in comparison to the commercial coarse-grained counterpart. These findings indicate that the reduction of grain size is beneficial to increasing the biocompatibility of Ti49.2Ni50.8 shape memory alloy.H.F.Li F.L.Nie Y.F.Zheng Y.Cheng S.C.Wei R.Z.Valiev 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,10:4
Effects of SiC Nanoparticle Content on the Microstructure and Tensile Mechanical Properties of Ultrafine Grained AA6063-SiC_(np) Nanocomposites Fabricated by Powder Metallurgy显示文摘Ultrafine grained AA6063-SiC_(np) nanocomposites with 1, 5 and 10 vol.% SiC_(np) have been fabricated by a novel powder metallurgy process. This process combines high energy ball milling of a mixture of 6063 alloy granules made from machining chips and Si C nanoparticles and thermomechanical powder consolidation by spark plasma sintering and hot extrusion. The microstructure and tensile mechanical properties of the samples were investigated in detail. Increasing the Si C nanoparticle content from 1 to 10 vol.%,the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength increased from 296 and 343 MPa to 545 and 603 MPa respectively, and the elongation to fracture decreased from 10.0%, to 2.3%. As expected, a higher Si C nanoparticle content generates a stronger inhibiting effect to grain growth during the thermomechanical powder consolidation process. Analysis of the contributions of various strengthening mechanisms shows that a higher Si C nanoparticle content leads to a higher contribution from nanoparticle strengthening, but grain boundary strengthening still makes the largest contribution to the strength of the nanocomposite. When the Si C nanoparticle content increased to 10 vol.%, the failure of the nanocomposite was initiated at weakly-bonded interparticle boundaries(IPBs), indicating that with a high flow stress during tensile deformation, the failure of the material is more sensitive to the presence of weakly-bonded IPBs.X.Yao Z.Zhang Y.F.Zheng C.Kong M.Z.Quadir J.M.Liang Y.H.Chen P.Munroe D.L.Zhang 2017Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,9:4

A Comparative in vitro Study on Biomedical Zr-2.5X(X=Nb,Sn) Alloys显示文摘Nb and Sn are major alloying elements in Zr alloys. In this study, the microstructure, mechanical properties, corrosion behavior, cytocompatibility and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) compatibility of Zr-2.5X(X = Nb,Sn) alloys for biomedical application are comparatively investigated. It is found that Zr—2.5Nb alloy has a duplex structure of α and β phase and Zr—2.5Sn alloy is composed of 7.phase.Both separate addition of Nb and Sn can strengthen Zr but Nb is more effective in strengthening Zr than Sn.The studied Zr—2.5X(X = Nb,Sn) alloys show improved corrosion resistance compared to pure Zr as indicted by the decreased corrosion current density. The alloying addition of Nb enhances the pitting resistance of Zr,whereas the addition of Sn decreases the pitting resistance of Zr.The extracts of Zr—2.5X alloys produce no significant deleterious effect on fibroblast cells(L-929) and osteoblast-like cells(MG 63),indicating good in vitro cytocompatibility. The Zr—2.5X(X = Nb,Sn) alloys show decreased magnetic susceptibility compared to pure Zr and their magnetic susceptibility is far lower than that of pure Ti and Ti—6AI—4V alloy.Based on these facts,Zr-2.5Nb alloy is more suitable for implant material than Zr-2.5Sn alloy.Sn is not suitable as individual alloying addition for Zr because Sn addition decreases the pitting resistance in physiological solution.F.Y.Zhou K.J.Qiu D.Bian Y.F.Zheng J.P.Lin 2014Journal of Materials Science & Technology2014,30,4:1
Precipitation and coarsening kinetics of H-phase in NiTiHf high temperature shape memory alloy显示文摘Precipitate hardening is the most easiest and effective way to enhance strain recovery properties in NiTiHf high-temperature shape memory alloys. This paper discusses the precipitation, coarsening and age hardening of H-phase precipitates in Ni_(50)Ti_(30)Hf_(20)alloy during isothermal aging at temperatures between 450℃and 650℃for time to 75 h.The H-phase mean size and volume fraction were determined using transmission electron microscopy.Precipitation kinetics was analyzed using the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov equation and an Arrhenius type law. From these analyses,a Time-Temperature-Transformation diagram was constructed. The evolution of H-phase size suggests classical matrix diffusion limited Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner coarsening for all considered temperatures. The coarsening rate constants of H-phase precipitation have been determined using a modified coarsening rate equation for nondilute solutions.Critical size of H-phase precipitates for breaking down the precipitate/matrix interface coherency was estimated through a combination of age hardening and precipitate size evolution data.Moreover,time-temperature-hardness diagram was constructed from the precipitation and coarsening kinetics and age hardening of H-phase precipitates in Ni_(50)Ti_(30)Hf_(20)alloy.A.Shuitcev Y.Ren B.Sun G.V.Markova L.Li Y.X.Tong Y.F.Zheng 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,19:0
THE TYPE II DEFECT IN 18R MARTENSITE IN A Cu-Zn-Al ALLOY显示文摘Type H defect in 18R martensite in a Cu-Zn-Al alloy has been studied by high resolution electron microscopy. It was found that Type H defect is not fault internal to martensite plate; rather,it is a stack of plates A and C. The rare observation of Type H defect is considered to be due to the fact that thc slice is too thin to exist for self-accommodation.J.X.Zhang Y.F.Zheng W.Cai L.C.Zhao 1998Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)1998,11,1:0
PHASE TRANSFORMATION BEHAVIOR AND MICROSTRUCTURE OBSERVATION OF Nb-Ru HIGH TEMPERATURE SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY显示文摘The phase transformation behavior and microstructure of Nb-Ru alloys have been studied by DSC, X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM). Two-step phase transformation of CsCl (β)→face-centered tetragonal (β')→monoclinic (β') occurs during cooling from high temperature to room temperature. The lattice parameters of martensites of Nb-Ru alloys were found to increase with the increase of Nb content. The martensite variants exhibit triangular self-accommodating morphology, with alternating regular bands inside. The twinning relationship between the substructural bands was found to be (101) type I mode, and this kind of twinning interface was straight, well-defined and coherent.X.Gao Y.F.Zheng W.Cai L.C.Zhao 2003Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2003,16,5:0
