| 1 | Overexpression of the tonoplast aquaporin AtTIP5;1 conferred tolerance to boron toxicity in Arabidopsis显示文摘Boron (B) toxicity to plants is responsible for low crop productivity in many regions of the world. Here we report a novel and effective means to alleviate the B toxicity to plants under high B circumstance. Functional characterization of AtTIP5;1, an aquaporin gene, re-vealed that overexpression of AtTIP5;1 (OxAtTIP5;1) in Arabidopsis significantly increased its tolerance to high B toxicity. Compared to wild-type plants, OxAtTIP5;1 plants exhibited longer hypocotyls, accelerated development, increased silique production under high B treatments. GUS staining and quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) results demonstrated that the expression of AtTIP5;1 was induced by high B concentration treatment. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that the AtTIP5;1-GFP fusion protein was localized on the tonoplast membrane, which was consistent with the prediction based on bioinformatics. | 3 | Identification of AtSM34, a novel tonoplast intrinsic protein-interacting polypeptide expressed in response to osmotic stress in germinating seedlings显示文摘Aquaporins are implicated in a wide variety of plant physiological processes, although the mechanisms involved in their regulation are not fully understood. To gain further insight into the regulatory factors involved in this process, we used a yeast two-hybrid system to screen for potential binding partners to the Arabidopsis tonoplast intrinsic protein (TIP) AtTIP1;1. This was the first protein identified to be associated with high water permeability in vacuolar membranes from Arabidopsis thaliana. Using AtTIP1;1 as bait, a novel binding protein was identified in both yeast and plant cells. This prey protein, named AtSM34, was a 309 aa polypeptide with a predicted molecular mass of 34 kD and contained a single MYB/SANT-like domain. AtSM34 promoter:: GUS histochemical staining analysis detected AtSM34 expression in flowers, stems and leaves, particularly in the vascular tissues, in response to osmotic stress. AtSM34 expression was localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, and sequence deletion analysis revealed that the N-terminal coding region (amino acids 1-83) was critical for this localization. Overexpression of AtSM34 resulted in hypersensitivity to exogenous mannitol, sorbitol and abscisic acid, and caused a significant delay in germination. AtSM34 interacted with AtTIP1;2 and AtTIP2;1, which are essential proteins for modulation of tonoplast permeability and highly expressed in germinating seedlings. | 5 | High-performance all-polymer solar cells with only 0.47 eV energy loss显示文摘The field of all-polymer solar cells(all-PSCs)has experienced rapid development during the past few years,mainly driven by the development of efficient polymer acceptors.However,the power conversion efficiencies(PCEs)of the all-PSCs are still limited by insufficient light absorption of the donor/acceptor blend and large energy loss in devices.We herein designed a polymer acceptor PYT1 constructed n-type molecular acceptor Y5-C20 as the key building block and blended it with a polymer donor PM6 to obtain an all-polymer photoactive layer.The optimized PM6:PYT1 all-PSCs achieved a record higher PCE of 13.43%with a very low energy loss of 0.47 eV and a photoresponse of up to 900 nm compared with the Y5-C20 based device with a best PCE of 9.42%.Furthermore,the PCEs of the PM6:PYT1 all-PSCs are relatively insensitive to the 1-chloronaphthalene(CN)additive contents and active layer thickness.Our results also highlight the effect of CN additive on PM6:PYT1 morphology,i.e.,charge generation,and transport find an optimized balance,and radiative and non-radiative loss is simultaneously reduced in the blend.This work promotes the development of high-performance polymer acceptors and heralds a brighter future of all-PSCs for commercial applications. | Qiang Wu Wei Wang Tao Wang Rui Sun Jing Guo Yao Wu Xuechen Jiao Christoph J.Brabec Yongfang Li Jie Min | 2020 | Science China Chemistry2020,63,10: | 2 |
| 6 | Simultaneous Biological Removal of p-Cresol, Sulfide and Nitrate by Denitrification显示文摘Biological removal of sulfide, nitrate, and p-cresol at a loading rate of 340 gS/(m^3 · d), 340 gN/(m^3 · d) and600 gC/(m^3 · d), respectively, was achieved in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket(UASB) reactor. The ratio of C/S could affect the elemental sulfur(S^0) accumulation, and the C/S ratio of 1.75:1 was optimal for S^0 accumulation. Strains Pseudomonas sp., Simplicispira sp., and Rhizobium sp. could likely yield heterotrophs. Strains Arcobacter sp.,Sulfurimonas sp., Sulfurovum sp., and Sulfurospirillum sp. are the autotrophics required for the proposed UASB system. | 11 | DGP1,a drought-induced guard cell-specific promoter and its function analysis in tobacco plants显示文摘The genetic regulation of stomatal movement mainly depends on an efficient control system of gene expression, and guard cell-specific promoter is becoming the best choice. Here we combined the dehydration responsive element (DRE) with guard cell specific element (GCSE) to construct a novel promoter, DGP1. Histochemical assays in transgenic tobacco carrying β -glucuronidase (gus) gene fused to DGP1 demonstrated that GUS activity was found to be highly inducible by drought treatment and specifically restricted to guard cells. No GUS activity was detected in roots, stems or flowers after treatment. Further quantitative analysis showed that GUS activity in the epidermal strips was apparently induced by dehydration and dramatically increased with the elongation of treatment. The GUS activity after 8 h treatment was 179 times that of those without treatment. Although GUS activity in roots, stems or mesophyll increased after treatment, no great changes were observed. These results suggested that DGP1 could drive target gene expressed in guard cells when plant is subjected to drought stress.
