2The cGAS-STING signaling in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases: Future novel target option for pharmacotherapy显示文摘The cyclic GMP-AMP synthase(cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes(STING) signaling exert essential regulatory function in microbial-and onco-immunology through the induction of cytokines, primarily type I interferons. Recently, the aberrant and deranged signaling of the cGAS-STING axis is closely implicated in multiple sterile inflammatory diseases, including heart failure,myocardial infarction, cardiac hypertrophy, nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases, aortic aneurysm and dissection, obesity, etc. This is because of the massive loads of damage-associated molecular patterns(mitochondrial DNA, DNA in extracellular vesicles) liberated from recurrent injury to metabolic cellular organelles and tissues, which are sensed by the pathway. Also, the cGAS-STING pathway crosstalk with essential intracellular homeostasis processes like apoptosis, autophagy, and regulate cellular metabolism.Targeting derailed STING signaling has become necessary for chronic inflammatory diseases. Meanwhile, excessive type I interferons signaling impact on cardiovascular and metabolic health remain entirely elusive. In this review, we summarize the intimate connection between the cGAS-STING pathway and cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. We also discuss some potential small molecule inhibitors for the pathway. 3Advanced fabrication for electrospun three-dimensional nanofiber aerogels and scaffolds显示文摘Electrospinning is a versatile strategy for creating nanofiber materials with various structures,which has broad application for a myriad of areas ranging from tissue engineering,energy harvesting,filtration and has become one of the most important academic and technical activities in the field of material science in recent years.In addition to playing a significant role in the construction of two-dimensional(2D)nanomaterials,electrospinning holds great promise as a robust method for producing three-dimensional(3D)aerogels and scaffolds.This article reviews and summarizes the recent advanced methods for fabricating electrospun three-dimensional nanofiber aerogels and scaffolds,including gas foaming,direct electrospinning of 3D nanofibrous scaffold,short nanofibers assembling into 3D aerogels/scaffolds,3D printing,electrospray,origami and cell sheet engineering,centrifugal electrospinning,and other methods.Besides,intriguing formation process,crosslinking pathway,properties,and applications of 3D aerogels and scaffolds are also introduced.Taken together,these aerogels and scaffolds with various excellent features present tremendous potential in various fields.Yujie Chen Muhammad Shafiq Mingyue Liu Yosry Morsi Xiumei Mo 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,4:12

5An update on the function and regulation of methylerythritol phosphate and mevalonate pathways and their evolutionary dynamics显示文摘Isoprenoids are among the largest and most chemically diverse classes of organic compounds in nature and are involved in the processes of photosynthesis, respiration, growth, development,and plant responses to stress. The basic building block units for isoprenoid synthesis-isopentenyl diphosphate and its isomer dimethylallyl diphosphate-are generated by the mevalonate (MVA) and methylerythritol phosphate(MEP) pathways. Here, we summarize recent advances on the roles of the MEP and MVA pathways in plant growth, development and stress responses, and attempt to define the underlying gene networks that orchestrate the MEP and MVA pathways in response to developmental or environmental cues.Through phylogenomic analysis, we also provide a new perspective on the evolution of the plant isoprenoid pathway. We conclude that the presence of the MVA pathway in plants may be associated with the transition from aquatic to subaerial and terrestrial environments, as lineages for its core components are absent in green algae. 6Hierarchically electrospraying a PLGA@chitosan sphere-in-sphere composite microsphere for multi-drug-controlled release显示文摘Sequential administration and controlled release of different drugs are of vital importance for regulating cellular behaviors and tissue regeneration,which usually demands appropriate carriers like microspheres(MS)to control drugs releases.Electrospray has been proven an effective technique to prepare MS with uniform particle size and high drug-loading rate.In this study,we applied electrospray to simply and hierarchically fabricate sphere-in-sphere composite microspheres,with smaller poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)MS(~8-10 lm in diameter)embedded in a larger chitosan MS(~250-300 lm in diameter).The scanning electron microscopy images revealed highly uniform MS that can be accurately controlled by adjusting the nozzle diameter or voltage.Two kinds of model drugs,bovine serum albumin and chlorhexidine acetate,were encapsulated in the microspheres.The fluorescence-labeled rhodamine-fluoresceine isothiocyanate(Rho-FITC)and ultraviolet(UV)spectrophotometry results suggested that loaded drugs got excellent distribution in microspheres,as well as sustained,slow release in vitro.In addition,far-UV circular dichroism and matrixassisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF-MS)results indicated original secondary structure and molecular weight of drugs after electrospraying.Generally speaking,our research proposed a modified hierarchically electrospraying technique to prepare sphere-in-sphere composite MS with two different drugs loaded,which could be applied in sequential,multi-modality therapy.Zhu Liu Weilong Ye Jingchuan Zheng Qindong Wang Guowu Ma Huiying Liu Xiumei Wang 2020Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,4:5
7Drug-nanoencapsulated PLGA microspheres prepared by emulsion electrospray with controlled release behavior显示文摘The development of modern therapeutics has raised the requirement for controlled drug delivery system which is able to efficiently encapsulate bioactive agents and achieve their release at a desired rate satisfying the need of the practical system.In this study,two kind of aqueous model drugs with different molecule weight,Congo red and albumin from bovine serum(BSA)were nanoencapsulated in poly(DL-lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)microspheres by emulsion electrospray.In the preparation process,the aqueous phase of drugs was added into the PLGA chloroform solution to form the emulsion solution.The emulsion was then electrosprayed to fabricate drugnanoencapsulated PLGA microspheres.The morphology of the PLGA microspheres was affected by the volume ratio of aqueous drug phase and organic PLGA phase(V_(w)/V_(o))and the molecule weight of model drugs.Confocal laser scanning microcopy showed the nanodroplets of drug phase were scattered in the PLGA microspheres homogenously with different distribution patterns related to V_(w)/V_(o).With the increase of the volume ratio of aqueous drug phase,the number of nanodroplets increased forming continuous phase gradually that could accelerate drug release rate.Moreover,BSA showed a slower release rate from PLGA microspheres comparing to Congo red,which indicated the drug release rate could be affected by not only V_(w)/V_(o)but also the molecule weight of model drug.In brief,the PLGA microspheres prepared using emulsion electrospray provided an efficient and simple systemto achieve controlled drug release at a desired rate satisfying the need of the practices.Shenglian Yao Huiying Liu Shukui Yu Yuanyuan Li Xiumei Wang Luning Wang 2016Regenerative Biomaterials2016,3,5:5

10“Polymer-in-ceramic” based poly(ε-caprolactone)/ceramic composite electrolyte for all-solid-state batteries显示文摘Inspired by the concept of 'polymer-in-ceramic',a composite poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL)/ceramic containing LiTFSI is prepared and investigated as a solid electrolyte for all-solid-state batteries.The composite with the optimum concentration of 45 wt% LiTFSI and 75 wt% Li1.5Al0.5Ge1.5(PO4)3(LAGP,NASICON-type structure) exhibits a high ionic conductivity(σi=0.17 mS cm-1) at 30℃,a transference number of 0.30,and is stable up to 5.0 V.The composite electrolyte is a flexible and self-standing membrane.Solid-state LiFePO4//Li batteries with this composite electrolyte demonstrate excellent cycling stability with high discharge capacity of 157 mA h g-1,high capacity retention of 96% and coulombic efficiency of 98.5% after 130 cycles at 30℃ and 0.1 C rate.These electrochemical properties are better than other PCL-based allsolid-lithium batteries,and validate the concept of 'polymer-in-ceramic' by avoiding the drawback of lower conductivity in prior 'polymer-in-ceramic' electrolyte at high concentration of the ceramic.Bohao Zhang Yulong Liu Jia Liu Liqun Sun Lina Cong Fang Fu Alain Mauger Christian M.Julien Haiming Xie Xiumei Pan 2021Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,1:4
11Electrical and Raman properties of p-type and n-type modified graphene by inorganic quantum dot and organic molecule modification显示文摘We obtained n-type and p-type modified graphene by mixing quantum dots and depositing electron-acceptor molecules on the surface of graphene, respectively. The electrical and optical properties of these two types of samples were measured. For n-type modified graphene, the electrons were transferred from quantum dots to graphene. The resistance of these quantum dots in modified n-type graphene is significantly smaller than that of pristine graphene. For p-type graphene, modified by electron-acceptor organic molecules of tetracyanoethylene (TCNE), electrons were transferred from graphene to TCNE molecules. The resistance of this molecular modified p-type graphene is about 10% larger than that of pristine graphene. 14Development of an antimicrobial peptide-loaded mineralized collagen bone scaffold for infective bone defect repair显示文摘The repair of infective bone defects is a great challenge in clinical work.It is of vital importance to develop a kind of bone scaffold with good osteogenic properties and long-term antibacterial activity for local anti-infection and bone regeneration.A porous mineralized collagen(MC)scaffold containing poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)microspheres loaded with two antibacterial synthetic peptides,Pac-525 or KSL-W was developed and characterized via scanning electron microscopy(SEM),porosity measurement,swelling and mechanical tests.The results showed that the MC scaffold embedded with smooth and compact PLGA microspheres had a positive effect on cell growth and also had antibacterial properties.Through toxicity analysis,cell morphology and proliferation analysis and alkaline phosphatase evaluation,the antibacterial scaffolds showed excellent biocompatibility and osteogenic activity.The antibacterial property evaluated with Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli suggested that the sustained release of Pac-525 or KSL-W from the scaffolds could inhibit the bacterial growth aforementioned in the long term.Our results suggest that the antimicrobial peptides-loaded MC bone scaffold has good antibacterial and osteogenic activities,thus providing a great promise for the treatment of infective bone defects.Yuzhu He Yahui Jin Xiaoxia Ying Qiong Wu Shenglian Yao Yuanyuan Li Huiying Liu Guowu Ma Xiumei Wang 2020Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,5:3
15Effects of human mesenchymal stem cell transplantation in the bilateral corpus striatum in a rat model of Tourette's syndrome显示文摘Tourette's syndrome is treated by behavioral or pharmacological therapy. However, patients with malignant Tourette's syndrome also exhibit life-threatening symptoms, which are unresponsive to conservative treatments or neurosurgical procedures, such as deep brain stimulation. In recent years, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have shown therapeutic potential in many neurological diseases. Therefore, the present study proposed to use MSC transplantation as a novel therapy for Tourette's syndrome. Stereotypic behaviors in Tourette's syndrome rats decreased significantly at 21 days after human MSCs transplantation into the striatum. Immunohistochemistry analyses revealed survival of transplanted human MSCs and differentiation into neurons and astrocytes in the rat brain. 16Laves phase hydrogen storage alloys for super-high-pressure metal hydride hydrogen compressors显示文摘Ti-Cr- and Ti-Mn-based alloys were prepared to be low- and high-pressure stage metals for a double-stage super-high-pressure metal hydride hydrogen compressor. Their crystallographic characteristics and hydrogen storage properties were investigated. The alloy pair Ti0.9Zr0.1Mn1.4- Cr0.35V0.2Fe0.05/TiCr1.55Mn0.2Fe0.2 was optimized based on the comprehensive performance of the studied alloys.
