1Removal of ammonium ion from water by Na-rich birnessite:Performance and mechanisms显示文摘Na-rich birnessite(NRB) was synthesized by a simple synthesis method and used as a high-efficiency adsorbent for the removal of ammonium ion(NH+4) from aqueous solution.In order to demonstrate the adsorption performance of the synthesized material,the effects of contact time,pH,initial ammonium ion concentration,and temperature were investigated.Adsorption kinetics showed that the adsorption behavior followed the pseudo second-order kinetic model.The equilibrium adsorption data were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models and the model parameters were evaluated.The monolayer adsorption capacity of the adsorbent,as obtained from the Langmuir isotherm,was 22.61 mg NH+4-N/g at283 K.Thermodynamic analyses showed that the adsorption was spontaneous and that it was also a physisorption process.Our data revealed that the higher NH+4adsorption capacity could be primarily attributed to the water absorption process and electrostatic interaction.Particularly,the high surface hydroxyl-content of NRB enables strong interactions with ammonium ion.The results obtained in this study illustrate that the NRB is expected to be an effective and economically viable adsorbent for ammonium ion removal from aqueous system.Ya Cheng Tinglin Huang Xinxin Shi Gang Wen Yuankui Sun 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,7:12
2Computer-aided ionic liquid design for alkane/cycloalkane extractive distillation process显示文摘A computer-aided ionic liquid design(CAILD) study is presented for the frequently encountered alkane/cycloalkane separations in petrochemical industry. Exhaustive experimental data are first collected to extend the UNIFAC-IL model for this system, where the proximity effect in alkanes and cycloalkanes is considered specifically by defining distinct groups. The thermodynamic performances of a large number of ILs for 4 different alkane/cycloalkane systems are then compared to select a representative example of such separations. By applying n-heptane/methylcyclohexane extractive distillation as a case study, the CAILD task is cast as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming(MINLP) problem based on the obtained task-specific UNIFAC-IL model and two semi-empirical models for IL physical properties. 3Influence of the NAO on Wintertime Surface Air Temperature over East Asia:Multidecadal Variability and Decadal Prediction显示文摘In this paper,we investigate the influence of the winter NAO on the multidecadal variability of winter East Asian surface air temperature(EASAT)and EASAT decadal prediction.The observational analysis shows that the winter EASAT and East Asian minimum SAT(EAmSAT)display strong in-phase fluctuations and a significant 60-80-year multidecadal variability,apart from a long-term warming trend.The winter EASAT experienced a decreasing trend in the last two decades,which is consistent with the occurrence of extremely cold events in East Asia winters in recent years.The winter NAO leads the detrended winter EASAT by 12-18 years with the greatest significant positive correlation at the lead time of 15 years.Further analysis shows that ENSO may affect winter EASAT interannual variability,but does not affect the robust lead relationship between the winter NAO and EASAT.We present the coupled oceanic-atmospheric bridge(COAB)mechanism of the NAO influences on winter EASAT multidecadal variability through its accumulated delayed effect of~15 years on the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation(AMO)and Africa-Asia multidecadal teleconnection(AAMT)pattern.An NAO-based linear model for predicting winter decadal EASAT is constructed on the principle of the COAB mechanism,with good hindcast performance.The winter EASAT for 2020-34 is predicted to keep on fluctuating downward until~2025,implying a high probability of occurrence of extremely cold events in coming winters in East Asia,followed by a sudden turn towards sharp warming.The predicted 2020/21 winter EASAT is almost the same as the 2019/20 winter.Jianping LI Tiejun XIE Xinxin TANG Hao WANG Cheng SUN Juan FENG Fei ZHENG Ruiqiang DING 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,4:4
4A comparison study of the start-up of a MnO_x filter for catalytic oxidative removal of ammonium from groundwater and surface water显示文摘As an efficient method for ammonium(NH_4^+)removal,contact catalytic oxidation technology has drawn much attention recently,due to its good low temperature resistance and short start-up period.Two identical filters were employed to compare the process for ammonium removal during the start-up period for ammonium removal in groundwater(Filter-N)and surface water(Filter-S)treatment.Two types of source water(groundwater and surface water)were used as the feed waters for the filtration trials.Although the same initiating method was used,Filter-N exhibited much better ammonium removal performance than Filter-S.The differences in catalytic activity among these two filters were probed using X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and compositional analysis.XRD results indicated that different manganese oxide species were formed in Filter-N and Filter-S.Furthermore,the Mn3p XPS spectra taken on the surface of the filter films revealed that the average manganese valence of the inactive manganese oxide film collected from Filter-S(FS-MnO_x)was higher than in the film collected from Filter-N(FN-MnO_x).Mn(IV)was identified as the predominant oxidation state in FS-MnO_xand Mn(III)was identified as the predominant oxidation state in FN-MnO_x.The results of compositional analyses suggested that polyaluminum ferric chloride(PAFC)used during the surface water treatment was an important factor in the mineralogy and reactivity of MnO_x.This study provides the theoretical basis for promoting the wide application of the technology and has great practical significance.Ya Cheng Ye Li Tinglin Huang Yuankui Sun Xinxin Shi Yuezong Shao 2018Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,3:4
5Sphingosine-1-phosphate,a novel TREM2 ligand,promotes microglial phagocytosis to protect against ischemic brain injury显示文摘The mechanism of sphingosine-1-phosphate(S1P)-mediated phagocytosis remains unknown.Here,we found that S1P or FTY720(an analog of S1P)promoted microglial phagocytosis in stroke independent of S1PRs.First,we used computer simulation of molecular docking to predict that S1P might be a ligand for triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2(TREM2).Next,microscale thermophoresis(MST),surface plasmon resonance(SPR)and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry(LC–MS/MS)were performed to reveal that S1P was a novel TREM2 ligand.Then,we confirmed the pro-phagocytosis of S1P targeting in Trem2-Dap12 transfected CHO cells and TREM2 knockdown microglia.Point mutation analysis showed that D104 was the critical binding residue.Trem2^(−/−)mice were used to demonstrate the role of S1P-induced phagocytosis targeting on TREM2 in protecting against ischemic brain injury.Finally,further studies revealed that apolipoprotein E(APOE)loaded with S1P was released by microglia and bound to apoptotic neurons via LDL receptor related protein 1B(LRP1B)and thereby induced microglia to phagocytose apoptotic neurons.Overall,the present work reveals for the first time that S1P acts as a novel endogenous ligand of TREM2 to effectively promote microglial phagocytosis.Our findings provide a new lead compound for developing immunomodulator targeting on TREM2.Tengfei Xue Juan Ji Yuqin Sun Xinxin Huang Zhenyu Cai Jin Yang Wei Guo Ruobing Guo Hong Cheng Xiulan Sun 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,4:3
6Diversity of Sex Types and Seasonal Sexual Plasticity in a Cucumber Germplasm Collection显示文摘The sex type of a cucumber plant is determined by the proportion of male, female and hermaphrodite flowers that it bears and is an important factor that affects fruit yield. In this paper, the sex types and seasonal sexual stabilities of 322 accessions of cucumber germplasm were identified. This germplasm collection displayed a great variety of sex types. We used an updated 10-type sex classification system based on the flower types present and the proportion of nodes with pistillate flowers(PNPF). The PNPF ranges of all the accessions were 2.12%–100% in spring and 0–100% in autumn. A total of 81.37% of the accessions had PNPFs of 10%–50% in spring, but most(84.78%) accessions were reduced to 0–20% PNPF in autumn. The range of reduction of PNPF from spring to autumn was 0–67.91%. In other words, most of the germplasm was normal monoecious(31.68%) or subandroecious(62.73%) in spring, but 94.10% of the accessions were subandroecious in autumn. According to the statistical evaluation of the difference in PNPFs between the two seasons, each accession could be classified into one of three groups: seasonally stable, seasonally sensitive and highly seasonally sensitive, accounting for 10.56%, 20.50% and 68.94% of the accessions, respectively. With a few exceptions, the seasonal PNPF differences were positively correlated with the PNPFs in a given season for most accessions. 7LabVIEW-based auto-timing counts virtual instrument system with ORTEC 974 Counter/Timer显示文摘In order to achieve the auto-timing counts measurement of nuclear radiation using ORTEC 974 Counter/Timer, an auto-timing counts virtual instrument system based on the LabVIEW virtual instrument development platform and GPIB instrument control and transmission bus protocol is designed in this paper. By introducing software timing technique, the minimum time base of factory setting improves from 0.1 s to 0.03 s. The timing counts performance and longtime stability are also discussed in detail. The automatic data recording and saving facilitates data analysis and processing. 8Paclitaxel-induced stress granules increase LINE-1 mRNA stability to promote drug resistance in breast cancer cells显示文摘Abnormal expression of long interspersed element-1(LINE-1)has been implicated in drug resistance,while our previous study showed that chemotherapy drug paclitaxel(PTX)increased LINE-1 level with unknown mechanism.Bioinformatics analysis suggested the regulation of LINE-1 mRNA by drug-induced stress granules(SGs).This study aimed to explore whether and how SGs are involved in drug-induced LINE-1 increase and thereby promotes drug resistance of triple negative breast cancer(TNBC)cells.We demonstrated that SGs increased LINE-1 expression by recruiting and stabilizing LINE-1 mRNA under drug stress,thereby adapting TNBC cells to chemotherapy drugs.Moreover,LINE-1 inhibitor efavirenz(EFV)could inhibit drug-induced SG to destabilize LINE-1.Our study provides the first evidence of the regulation of LINE-1 by SGs that could be an important survival mechanism for cancer cells exposed to chemotherapy drugs.The findings provide a useful clue for developing new chemotherapeutic strategies against TNBCs.Xiao Shi Xinxin Si Ershao Zhang Ruochen Zang Nan Yang He Cheng Zhihong Zhang Beijing Pan Yujie Sun 2021The Journal of Biomedical Research2021,35,6:1
9Efficient control of chronic LCMV infection by a CD4 T cell epitope-based heterologous prime-boost vaccination in a murine model显示文摘CD4^(+)T cells are essential for sustaining CD8^(+)T cell responses during a chronic infection.The adoptive transfer of virus-specific CD4^(+)T cells has been shown to efficiently rescue exhausted CD8^(+)T cells.However,the question of whether endogenous virus-specific CD4^(+)T cell responses can be enhanced by certain vaccination strategies and subsequently reinvigorate exhausted CD8^(+)T cells remains unexplored.In this study,we developed a CD4^(+)T cell epitope-based heterologous prime-boost immunization strategy and examined the efficacy of this strategy using a mouse model of chronic lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus(LCMV)infection.We primed chronically LCMV-infected mice with a Listeria monocytogenes vector that expressed the LCMV glycoprotein-specific I-Ab-restricted CD4^(+)T cell epitope GP61–80(LM-GP61)and subsequently boosted the primed mice with an influenza virus A(PR8 strain)vector that expressed the same CD4^(+)T cell epitope(IAV-GP61).This heterologous prime-boost vaccination strategy elicited strong anti-viral CD4^(+)T cell responses,which further improved both the quantity and quality of the virusspecific CD8^(+)T cells and led to better control of the viral loads.The combination of this strategy and the blockade of the programmed cell death-1(PD-1)inhibitory pathway further enhanced the anti-viral CD8^(+)T cell responses and viral clearance.Thus,a heterologous prime-boost immunization that selectively induces virus-specific CD4^(+)T cell responses in conjunction with blockade of the inhibitory pathway may represent a promising therapeutic approach to treating patients with chronic viral infections.Ran He Xinxin Yang Cheng Liu Xiangyu Chen Lin Wang Minglu Xiao Jianqiang Ye Yuzhang Wu Lilin Ye 2018Cellular & Molecular Immunology2018,15,9:1

11Active RNA interference in mitochondria显示文摘RNA interference(RNAi)has been thought to be a gene silencing pathway present in most eukaryotic cells to safeguard the genome against retrotransposition.Small interfering RNAs(siRNAs)have also become a powerful tool for studying gene functions.Given the endosymbiotic hypothesis that mitochondria originated from prokaryotes,mitochondria have been generally assumed to lack active RNAi;however,certain bacteria have Argonaute homologs and various reports suggest the presence of specific microRNAs and nuclear genome(nDNA)-encoded Ago2 in the mitochondria.Here we report'that transfected siRNAs are not only able to enter the matrix of mitochondria;but also function there to specifically silence targeted mitochondrial transcripts.The mitoRNAi effect is readily detectable at the mRNA level,but only recordable on relatively unstable proteins,such as the mtDNA-encoded complex IV subunits.We also apply mitoRNAi to directly determine the postulated crosstalk between individual respiratory chain complexes,and our result suggests that the controversial observations previously made in patient-derived cells might result from differential adaptation in different cell lines.Our findings bring a new tool to study mitochondrial biology.Kuanxing Gao Man Cheng Xinxin Zuo Jinzhong Lin Kurt Hoogewijs Michael PMurphy Xiang-Dong Fu Xiaorong Zhang 2021Cell Research2021,31,2:1
12Highly selective electrocatalytic Cl− oxidation reaction by oxygen-modified cobalt nanoparticles immobilized carbon nanofibers for coupling with brine water remediation and H2 production显示文摘Combining the H2 production with brine remediation is regarded as a sustainable approach to achieving clean H2 energy. However, designing stable Cl− oxidation reaction (COR) electrocatalyst is the key to realize this route. Herein, a type of oxygen-modified Co nanoparticles anchored graphitic carbon nanofibers catalyst (Co/GCFs) was synthesized through a two-step strategy of adsorption and pyrolysis. The Co/GCFs-2.4 exhibits high selectivity and stability for COR at neutral electrolyte. It is worth noting that unlike the water oxidation, the chemical valence of cobalt has not changed during the COR. Further results demonstrated that the oxygen-modified Co nanoparticles provide active sites for selective COR, meanwhile, the graphitic carbon gives rise to strong catalytic stability. Thanks to the superior COR and H2 production activity of Co/GCFs-2.4, a two-electrode brine electrocatalysis system employing Co/GCFs-2.4 as both cathode and anode for H2 production exhibited robust stability, efficient and high Faraday efficiency (98%-100%). 14Dry-etched ultrahigh-Q silica microdisk resonators on a silicon chip显示文摘We demonstrate the fabrication of ultrahigh quality(Q) factor silica microdisk resonators on a silicon chip by inductively coupled plasma(ICP) etching. We achieve a dry-etched optical microresonator with an intrinsic Q factor as high as 1.94×10^(8) from a 1-mm-diameter silica microdisk with a thickness of 4 μm. 19A unique subseafloor microbiosphere in the Mariana Trench driven by episodic sedimentation显示文摘Hadal trenches are characterized by enhanced and infrequent high-rate episodic sedimentation events that likely introduce not only labile organic carbon and key nutrients but also new microbes that significantly alter the subseafloor microbiosphere.Currently,the role of high-rate episodic sedimentation in controlling the composition of the hadal subseafloor microbiosphere is unknown.Here,analyses of carbon isotope composition in a~750 cm long sediment core from the Challenger Deep revealed noncontinuous deposition,with anomalous ^(14)C ages likely caused by seismically driven mass transport and the funneling effect of trench geomorphology.Microbial community composition and diverse enzyme activities in the upper~27 cm differed from those at lower depths,probably due to sudden sediment deposition and differences in redox condition and organic matter availability.At lower depths,microbial population numbers,and composition remained relatively constant,except at some discrete depths with altered enzyme activity and microbial phyla abundance,possibly due to additional sudden sedimentation events of different magnitude.Evidence is provided of a unique role for high-rate episodic sedimentation events in controlling the subsurface microbiosphere in Earth’s deepest ocean floor and highlight the need to perform thorough analysis over a large depth range to characterize hadal benthic populations.Such depositional processes are likely crucial in shaping deep-water geochemical environments and thereby the deep subseafloor biosphere.Jiwen Liu Da-Wei Li Xinxin He Ronghua Liu Haojin Cheng Chenglong Su Mengna Chen Yonghong Wang Zhongsheng Zhao Hanyue Xu Zhangyu Cheng Zicheng Wang Nikolai Pedentchouk David J.Lea-Smith Jonathan D.Todd Xiaoshou Liu Meixun Zhao Xiao-Hua Zhang 2024Marine Life Science & Technology2024,6,1:0
20Electrolyte additive enhances the electrochemical performance of Cu for rechargeable Cu//Zn batteries显示文摘Cu-based cathodes in aqueous batteries become very attractive in view of high theoretical capacity,moderate operation voltage and rich reserves of raw materials.However,their applications are obstructed by serious side reactions.The side reaction mainly arises from the spontaneous formation of Cu_(2)O,which occupies the electrode surface and lowers the reaction reversibility.Here,Na_(2)EDTA is introduced to address these issues.Both experimental results and theoretical calculations indicate that the Na_(2)EDTA reshapes the solvation structure of Cu^(2+)and modifies the electrode/electrolyte interface.Therefore,the redox potential of Cu^(2+)/Cu_(2)O is reduced and the surface of Cu is protected from H2O,thereby inhibiting the formation of Cu_(2)O.Meanwhile,the change in the solvation structure reduces the electrostatic repulsion between Cu^(2+)and the cathode,leading to high local concentration and benefiting uniform deposition.The results shed light on the applications of rechargeable Cu-based batteries.Xinxin Song Chenggang Wang Dongdong Wang Huili Peng Cheng Wang Chunsheng Wang Weiliu Fan Jian Yang Yitai Qian 2023Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,2:0
